This is the body of a recent email I sent to Target regarding the treatment of our family and I at this Target location tonight. I was sick and disgusted with what happened and I swear I will never visit this Target location ever again.
To whomever reads this,
I have enjoyed visiting the Target in Signal Hill, Ca. since around 2004 when I met my wife and this was the nearest Target to us. For 8 years, we chose to come to this Target location more than any other store around the area including Wal-Mart, Costco and Smart & Final. We would come to this Target on a weekly basis for everything we needed for our home, entertainment and, lately, groceries. But after this night, I will never return to this Target location ever.
As we were leaving Target around closing time, we were waiting for a taxi cab when I noticed that my son who is 5 years old left his jacket in the store. I grabbed my son and asked to get back into the store to retrieve his jacket as it was a cold night tonight. The store clerk who was closing the doors told us that we could not and when I pointed to him my son's jacket hanging on a cart just five feet behind him, he still would not let me in to get it for my son.
My five year old son who was complaining about the cold and was clearly shivering because of it. I don't know what kind of training you are giving your team members, but this is clear bullshit. The jacket was right behind him, my son was shivering in the cold and he refused to let me in to get it or even grab it for us himself.
If it were my jacket, I would care less; I am an adult and I can deal with the cold. But this was a five year old boy we are talking about. And he was cold. And this team member could not do the right thing and grab his jacket for him. He kept insisting that we come back in the morning and get it from customer service at that time.
If this is the kind of team member you have representing your store at that location, I must respectfully decline to ever visit that Target location ever again. If that is the way that your team members look at a 5 year old shivering in the cold and still refuse to help them, my family and I would do better to visit other stores around the area.
We loved going to that Target. We loved that it was close by. We loved other members of the staff you had there. We loved that it was our one-stop shopping location for almost all of our needs. But I cannot go to a store that has team members who would do something as cold as that.
I am sorry that it has come to this. Like I said before, if it was my jacket, if it was even my wife's jacket, this would not be an issue. But this is my young son we were talking about, and I will not stand for someone to treat my son like that ever.
Hopefully, this email will prevent this from happening to anyone ever again. But as for me and my family, we are done with that store. And since the next closest Target location to us is farther than other shopping locations in our area, this may be goodbye to shopping at Target for the foreseeable future.
Sincerely,
