Visited this place near IKEA at a Sunday lunch time. It took me 20 minutes which is not bad considering the amount of customers. I ordered the Curry Chicken Naaninis, which doesn't seem to be a good choice. The naan itself is very tasty, but the curry chicken is not very impressive to me. The fries coming up with the cuisine is just normal, and way too much. I asked if I could add lamb to a vegetarian dish, saag aloo. They said no, they can't do that. Citing policy. It is against their policy to add meat to a vegetarian dish. This is straight from the manager I think (young gal with glasses). So I ordered the lamb saag and had them add potatoes (aloo). They made it without a fuss -- at least they did not fuss to my face. OK...if there was an Indian McDonalds, this is it. I don't know what anyone sees in this place other than the fact that the samosas were decent. The chicken tiki masala was poo poo which for an Indian place means they perpetrators from da git-go. Sure, the naan was ok but can you really screw that up? Sorry....guys - thumbs down. I come just about once a week. I love the flavored here. The tikka marsala is just go good. I get it with extra spice and man it burns so good. I want to try other things but I can't seem to get away from ordering the the marsala until today I got the kabob combo (lamb & chicken). This place affordable and quick. I would come back much more but you know spices, what hot comes in what hot comes out. For the kids get the chicken pakoras, closes thing to chicken nuggets, with real chicken but with little bit of curry flavor. I have been to this place three times now and I think I have enough detail to review it. I want to give it 2.5 stars mainly because of the ambience, location and hygiene. Price is high for the portions. The curry dishes have lot of food color and artificial ingredients used. Anyone can make good fried appetizers, the kabobs and naninis are average at best. They need to improve the taste and quality of food. Taste is worse than Claypit even though the management is same. read more

Pretty good fast casual place. The spice was actually very light, the medium was really mild actually. Overall the food was good, I had Lamb Vindoo and wife had Chicken Tikka Masala. Both treated good, but like I said light on spice. Price was decent for the food, quick and easy helped the value. read more

Tried Tarka for the first time tonight and the food certainly didn't disappoint. Compared to other casual Indian restaurants I found the cuisine to be a cut above. Ordered the Tika Masala medium spicy and it was just right for all who sampled it. Other dishes were prepared just as well. Disclaimer: I am not of Indian decent & I don't believe I've tasted "authentic" Indian food to compare to, so take my review with a grain of salt. I think it would be very close to a 3.5, but not enough to round it up to a 4-star. My go-to dish is the mild, chicken tikka masala. Very flavorful, plenty of chicken pieces; sometimes enough to share. Comes with a generous portion of their seasoned basmati rice which I love. We've also tried the chicken coconut curry. Also a great flavor, but I feel you get less protein because of the potato pieces that it has as well. My husband likes the vegetable pakoras. I have to be in the mood for it. It's basically the Indian version of tempura except the batter is sprinkled with a curry seasoning after it is fried. I am pretty addicted to their garlic naan. It is really hard for me not to order a serving. Especially if I'm getting the tikka masala because it is a PERFECT dipping (or should I say scooping) sauce for the naan. Now, if you're not a big fan of the garlic flavor, I'd recommended getting the plain because they pile on the garlic...which stays in your mouth the rest of the day. I've also had the biryani which is also good. It is a bowl of rice with a scoop of protein & a yogurt sauce that you drizzle on top then you can mix all together (if you want). Kind of like the Korean bibimbop!! Ha! For me it is too much rice for the amount of protein you get. The first time I tried the mango lassi I did not know what to expect. I did not enjoy it. I should have done my research so I would have known it had yogurt in it. It might have been Greek yogurt which is more sour/tart than other yogurts. BUT now that I have acquired the taste of Greek yogurt I think it's delicious! It might be too sweet for some people's taste though. This is supposed to be Indian fast-food, attempting to offer primarily North Indian cuisine. The only thing going on for Tarka-Round Rock is the venue and the eco-friendly containers! The food was an utter disappointment. Tasted like someone was trying to make Indian cuisine for the 1st time without the proper spices and ingredients. I beg to differ with what the last reviewer stated about the Mango Lassi: it was very bitter and tasted like mango pulp from an old can. The service is lightening fast because the food is very un-authentic and non-traditional. The supermarket offers better frozen and bottled Indian-style sauces. The rice was clumpy! Imagine clumpy basmati...that's against the law! The desert menu is limited to ras-malai-not even kheer! The famous 'makhni' sauce of India is not on the menu; they had no idea what it was! Imagine again, no 'Butter Chicken' offered by an Indian eatery! I'm Indian and trust me, it's better to spend a little more money and to wait for official Indian cuisine. I was really anticipating a great restaurant in the area, because I live in the area, but I would never recommend or return to this pseudo-Indian eatery. Not a fan. Live in Teravista, literally four minutes from the place. Got takeout of veggie pakoras, combo kabob, garlic naan, added for sampling purposes achar and raita sauces. The sheesh kabob was greasy and dense. Chicken was dry and lacking in flavor. Rice was flavorless. Sauces were pretty good, although I am apparently not a fan of the flavors in achar. This is more of a personal preference issue. Garlic naan....ZERO flavor. It was a little soggy, limp and again, flavorless. I don't believe we'll be going back any time soon. read more

Had lunch here Friday and was great! Samosas were yummy and love the dip. I got a Biryanis chicken rice dish, the mild was slightly spicy but I love spicy so I really enjoyed it. It's a big bowl so i got a go box and hubby (who says he doesn't like Indian) ate it up and asked where it was from. Love the mango lemonade too! I love Indian food. I have been a customer of Taj Palace for years...but since I live in Round Rock, it's a far drive when I have a craving. Tarka is a "walk up and order" type restaurant. They give you a number and bring your food to your table when ready. It doesn't take more than a minute or two...and you have this delicious, not too spicy, Indian food in front of you. I would highly recommend it for the person who enjoys Indian food...or a novice who's never tried it before. I had the Chicken Kabob Salad and vegtable pakora which is a variety of veggies flash fried in this yummy batter. Don't know if kids would like it...but, if you want them to experience something different...it's worth a try. read more

OK, so its not authentic Indian food. But you should know better than to expect that here. I am a big fan of authentic Indian food, but sometimes you just want to be a little bad. I love the food here. Its always fresh and hot. Personal favorite are the aloo gobi, chicken tikka masala and the veggie samosas. The tamarind, mint and yogurt chutney that is served with the samosas is delicious and I would drink a glass of it with a straw if I could. I'm also quite fond of their colorful wall photos. Totally a solid 4. Room for improvement, but for the most part, these folks do up an excellent fast casual Indian cuisine with an abundance of options for the entire family. The naans are okay. Save the room for the entree, as the portions are huge. This restaurant is vegetarian friendly. They have chicken tikka masala which is a fantastic choice. Hubs gets it with chicken, and I get it with vegetables. The vegetable pakoras with mint chutney is delish! I went here about a week ago, and they had way too much seasoning on them. I think it was a one off thing though, it's not usually like that. Hubs likes the vegetable samosas, which I find to be too spicy. Our last visit, they didn't have any mango juice made up, so that was a bit disappointing. The root beer was a bit flat. For the price though, it's hard to complain too much. This place reminds me of an Indian version of Pei Wei. The food is quite good and you're meal comes to you fast. The portions are big and the prices aren't bad. The Lamb Vindaloo was excellent and I do recommend getting the Nan with your meal.The restaurant is a bit noisy and gets crowded during lunch time. read more

If I could, 3.5 stars would be my choice. In a pinch, Tarka is good Indian food. I have absolutely no qualms about heading there for a quick lunch or dinner. On the whole though, if authentic is what you're going for, then head to Teji's. I have had several dishes at Tarka, including but not limited to their Biriani, Tikka Masala & Saag. All were quite delicious and priced fairly well. Flavors however aren't quite as well defined as some of the more authentic options in town. read more

I can't believe how high the reviews are here. I think its clean and the service was fine but the food was horrible. Their version of 'hot' is mild with a jalopeno garnish. The Tika Masala tastes like Chef Boyardee Spaghettios and I couldn't touch it. Their Korma was so sweet and strange textured that it was also not edible. I am never coming here again. read more

Went here on a Thursday around 11:30am with some friends and the dining room was already about a quarter full. There was no line at the ordering counter and I got the tikka masala with chicken with a mild spice level for myself and the chicken pakoras for my daughter. Although next time i'll be getting it medium rather than mild, I must say that my food was amazing. So much so that my daughter wanted nothing to do with her kid's meal and everything to do with my chicken tikka masala (this is why i ordered mild. i figured this would happen). Not your typical indian food joint. When you walk in they have very modern decor and you get to see their whole line of chefs cooking up some amazing indian food. Quick, quality Indian cuisine. The restaurant is modern and clean. Smells amazing. I've had the Mitch masala and the biryani, both times with lamb, both experiences excellent.
