Very responsive, but I put in a new garage door 3 years ago and the springs failed, Tarnow indicated that was "normal" even though tech admitted it was less than a normal life span for the item. My previous garage door springs lasted 15-20 years. Tarow then had the nerve to up sell me "heavy duty" springs, which they should have installed for free and gone back to their vendor for a refund. I shouldn't have to replace springs every 3 years. read more

Our garage door would not open and our cars were inside. Tarnow Doors came out the same day and resolved the issue. We were kept updated on the time the service man would arrive. The service man, Gerald, was great. He explained what the problems were and then got our approval of the parts needed and what the costs would be. The price was reasonable. Tarnow installed two garage doors (separate) on our new garage 15 years ago. I could see that a spring broke and I couldn't get me car out. Tarnow was out within two hours, and not only did I get my car out, the service rep rigged a system to support the opening/closing until a replacement could be installed. The installer was back within the week to replace the total mechanism. Expert installation and great customer service. He even showed me how to lubricate the doors several times a year to keep the doors working perfectly. Loved the customer service. read more

Could have and probably should have been better. Only made it through the quote/estimate process. Emailed back and forth with Henry Tarnow. Process was lacking in explanation, follow-up, personal attention, etc. Plus, the project I had them quote apparently would require $1000's in additional outside contractor help. They were unable/willing to quote electrical, framing, etc. for the outdoor screen/vinyl project I was interested in. Made sure I sent Henry an email explaining I felt the pricing, lack of project management ability, "nickel & diming" in the quote and somewhat unprofessional communication was a disappointment. read more

Once in a while, a company is perfectly spot on and Tarnow is high on the list. I called yesterday when my garage door opener broke. I called and left messages for service on the garage door opener. My calls were never returned. I drove to the address on Halstead, I couldn't find the building. I ended up having town and country door come out to look at the problem. read more

Amazing company who had someone in contact with me the same day and had a new motor replaced the one that died (original to house) within the week, TJ had it set up and showed me all the ins and outs as it was set up and good to go within an hour! This company was highly recommended to me by two people. The salesperson could not have been more disinterested in working with me. Tarnow never called to tell me the order was delayed. I had to call find out where the doors were. They never told me how to prepare my garage. The men who installed smoked in my garage and left heir cigarette butts on the floor along with screws and other garbage . We paid $500 extra for a special clearance for our door and they had to jimmy-rig it because they didn't have it noted in the paperwork . I would not recommend this company. We bought our two garage doors from Tarnow about 20+ years ago. My husband is a loyal customer so he contacted them for a replacement. They installed both doors in about 3 hours. We had some minor issues but they returned 2 days later and addressed them. Both doors work fine and insulation has improved in past 20 years so the new ones are much heavier and hopefully will keep garage warmer in winter. read more

I had Tarnow Door install a garage door opener for me 12 years ago. It's been getting very noisy and I just figured that it was time for a new opener. I called them and ordered a new opener and set an installation time(next day... Thank You!). The tech showed up(on time... again, Thank You!) and looked at the old opener and inquired "what's wrong with this one?". I told him and then demonstrated this horrible noise being made during operation. He looked at it while is was operating and told me that there was a missing screw. He replaced the screw and the noise stopped! Now, I'm standing there feeling like the village idiot(lol) while the tech. tells me to have a nice day and jumps in his truck and leaves. The spring went out on our 25 year old garage door and another company charged me $75 just to tell me that they would not fix it for less than half the price of a new door, all in hopes I would be pressured into signing a contract on the spot. Tarnow Doors came out and fixed the springs efficiently in less than 15 minutes with no sales pitch. When we are ready to replace our garage door next year, we are definitely giving Tarnow our business. read more

We called Tarnow door to come out look at some damage to our garage door, Tarnow had installed the door in 2010 or 2011. I asked if the bottom section could be replaced. Someone came out to look at it, we called again and no one called back. Two weeks later I called the office again and talked to Bud. I told him what happened and he said he would look into it and get back with me. The day went by and he never called back. I called the office after hours and left a message for the owner, Mr. Tarnow. Mr. Tarnow called me this morning promptly at 8:00 AM to tell me that the door we have is no longer made so they can't match the panel. He asked me for my email and said he would email me a quote for non matching bottom section and a quote for a new door. That was at 8:00 AM this morning. Here it is 1:00 PM and I have not received the quote. I will amend this review if I get the quote sometime today but based on this experience I would not recommend Tarnow Door. There is no follow up. I have dealt with them on other projects and they were good. As I said before they installed the door I have now but something has happened and they have lost a step as far as customer service. read more

Absolutely would not do business with this company ever again. They sell you a door. It took 3 installs to make it correct. Had to get the owner involved who promised some type of compensation for their errors...then received a call that I would have to handle some type of compensation thru the manufacturer. Had a broken garage door spring. Bud helped me with the over the counter sale. I changed the spring, but after changing the spring I discovered some collateral damage to other items in the door assembly Time to call in the experts. Bud set up an appointment for a technician. The tech arrived as scheduled, was courteous and fixed the problem. The repair was done inexpensively (I actually think they are worth more than what they charge). read more

If I can save ONE reader from hiring this terrible company, then it was worth the money I lost. You have to stay on top of them to complete their work (watch closely - they will cut corners to reduce quality!) and if you don't, they will take your money and run. They demanded 50% up front, 50% on installation day (even though it wasn't completed) and I've been fighting to get them to finish the job ever since...and I have a basic, simple door installation -nothing special order. We were referred to Tarnow doors by my son and a couple other people. They are as good as it gets. We needed the whole works, Garage door replaced and a new Garage door opener. We also needed a weekend installation appointment. That was no problem to them. They came out on time and before we new it, the job was done. They have installed two new garage doors over the last 20 years and provided repair service a couple of other times, including yesterday. They were in and out and 20 minutes, problem fixed, and they are affordable. I've recommended them to friends who also had very positive experiences. Tarnow called with an arrival time when they said they'd call, showed up when they said they'd arrive, and replaced the springs on our garage door in only a few minutes! It would have been a half-day job for us to buy and replace them ourselves. Considering that, their pricing can't be beat! The service tech was very efficient, experienced and courteous.
