I hired Tarpy to inspect my old gas furnace and eventually replace it with a new electric heat pump. They did excellent work on both the inspection and installation. The furnace inspection was the most thorough that any company has done. Jonathan did a camera inspection of the inside of the heat exchanger. He also measured the current being used by various components, and checked for carbon monoxide coming out of the supply vents. This was an old furnace, and there were trace amounts of CO - not a dangerous amount, but enough to indicate that the heat exchanger was starting to leak. Jonathan wrote up the recommended repairs, but also mentioned that it might be better to get a new system. My system was 15 years old, and I knew that it was on its last legs. Since it was time for a full system replacement, I asked about an electric heat pump. Jonathan arranged for a Project Manager (Matt) to come out within the hour. Matt did a thorough inspection of the existing system and prepared a few quotes while he was onsite. I compared quotes the next day, and Matt answered all of my questions via text and phone. The heat pump installation team did excellent work. This was a difficult project, requiring a new electrical circuit and a new duct. My attic was re-insulated recently, so the installers were practically swimming in blown insulation, being careful to find the rafters as they worked in the attic. Also, the indoor air handling unit was about an inch wider than the doorway in my furnace cabinet. They made a cut in the doorway to fit the unit in, and then put it back together, so it looks like it did before. The job was initially estimated as two days of work, and they finished in one long 10-hour day. The system works great! It's whisper-quiet, and it runs longer than my old furnace did, so the warm air circulates around the house much better. Surprisingly, the hardest part of the whole project was paying the bill! I expected to pay with a credit card when the job finished, but the installers said that the accountants would call me. They didn't call for several days, and when I called Tarpy, I was told that the accountants would call me back. About two weeks after installation, I received a "past-due" invoice via email on a Saturday. I called back on Sunday but was again told that the accountants would call me. I take pride in paying my bills on time, and it bothered me to have an invoice marked as "past due". The accountant (Jennifer) eventually called, and I paid the bill via credit card over the phone, without a late fee. I guess I can't complain about getting to pay late - that's interest-free financing! Throughout the experience, everyone at Tarpy was friendly and professional, and it was easy to get answers to all of my questions. I highly recommend them! read more

My review in on my conversation only with Jamie their Plumbing Dispatcher. I have set up an appointment with Jamie for Gabe their plumber to come over for this Thursday on July 6, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the time frame that Gabe will be driving over to my house to diagnose the low water pressure issue and the clogged up showerhead in the master bathroom shower. I was quoted the $49.00 Diagnostic Fee from Jamie their plumbing dispatcher this morning when I called this Tarpy Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning Company today. Jamie was very professional, knowledgable about my plumbing issue, and Jamie was also very sympathetic about my plumbing issue which I am currently having at my house that involves the lower water pressure and the clogged-up showerhead that is located in the master bathroom. Jamie said to me that after Gabe the plumber diagnosis this issue with the lower water pressure and the clogged up showerhead in the master bathroom shower. During a recent heat wave, I scheduled an appointment for Monday morning. They called to reschedule for Tuesday, but no one showed up. After multiple calls, I was assured a technician would come, but they were a no-show again. For over three weeks, I called daily, promised callbacks from a manager, and was told my case was marked as an emergency--but nothing happened. This decline in service is shocking. This company is dangerous and I will not be using them for my family again. Because of their mistake, my infant and toddler went without heat overnight, and we woke up to a house that was very cold. Rescue Rooter recently added Tarpy, an HVAC company. Tarpy had come out to give us a quote for upgrading our system. Nothing was wrong, our furnace was working well. It was purely for a quote. The furnace did not turn on after that. It literally never had issues before. Thank goodness it was not a colder night. But since then they have become part of new company and now I keep calling the call center and they keep creating a "ticket" but there is never a call back or provide any update. Hi everyone, In 2021, I made a contract with Tarpy at a reasonable price. The service and installation were acceptable, and the customer service was good until they encountered an issue with one part of the contract where they bid the wrong price and didn't estimate it correctly. Despite this, they honored their promises and completed the contract. However, when they returned to test and check the furnace and AC, I encountered several issues. I've called and emailed them multiple times during my 2-year warranty period, but they never fixed the problems. The first issue is that whenever my thermostat starts, the circuit breaker for my living room lights trips.The second issue is that small white particles are coming out of the vents. I understand they might not have made a good profit on my project due to their sales team's inaccurate estimate, but as a customer who has already paid $21,000, this is not my concern. read more

EXERCISE DUE DILIGENCE BY DOING A CONTRACTORS STATE LICENSE BOARD (CSLB) - - www.cslb.ca.gov - - LICENSE CHECK AND NOTE THE INFORMATION THEREIN AS IT RELATES TO COMPANY LICENSEE OWNERSHIP, DOING BUSINESS AS (DBA) INFORMATION, AND COMPANY PERSONNEL, PRESENT AND PAST. I had a Mitsubishi Split Mini HVAC system installed in my residence by Tarpy Heating and Air, Santee, CA - - Project 76577151 / Estimate 76571253 / March 08, 2024. The components included an outdoor Mitsubishi Air Heat Pump and five (5) Mitsubishi wall mounted Split Mini room air heat pump units. I later noted the outdoor heat pump identified in the contract was a "discontinued" model and not Energy and EHRI Certified. However, based on the unit's identifying sticker, the actual heat pump installed was Energy and EHRI Certified, qualifying for the Federal Energy Tax Credit. Three (3) of the indoor wall mounted heat pump units were Energy and EHRI Certified, qualified for the Federal Energy Tax Credit. Two (2) wall mounted units were not. I sent an email to Tarpy via Tarpy's Internet site, which was acknowledged, requesting an invoice citing the cost, to include installation, for the Energy and EHRI Certified Mitsubishi heat pump units in order to claim the Federal Energy Tax Credit. Since the contract's total price included two (2) non-Energy and EHRI Certified units, the contract's total price could not be use to claim the rebate. I wasn't afforded the courtesy of a response. I sent correspondence via the US Postal Service, with tracking for verification of delivery, addressed to Paul Tarpy, listed in Better Business Bureau (BBB) San Diego records as the Sales and Marketing Manager for Tarpy Heating and Air, 10107 Prospect Ave Ste A, Santee, CA 92071-4485, requesting an itemized invoice setting for the cost of the Energy and EHRI Certified units installed in order to comply with IRS requirements for claiming the Residential Energy Federal Tax Credit and Residential Energy Property Expenditures (IRS Form 5695, Parts I and Part II, Section B). Again, I was not afforded the courtesy of a response. I contacted the Contractors State License Board (CSLB), Office of Investigations, where I spoke with an investigator regarding the issue.  I was informed by the investigator that my situation wasn't covered by CSLB regulations, however, he would contact Tarpy on my behalf regarding the situation.  At 3:26 PM, on January 13, 2025, several hours after leaving the CSLB office, I received a voicemail message from Dan Foidl, Operations Manager, for Tarpy, originating from his "personal cell phone." Mr. Foidl's voicemail message states, in part, "... I just wanna get information of what I need to do to fix this work issue..." On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, I contacted Mr. Foidl and explained the situation. Additionally, following our conversation, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 1:34 PM, I sent a text to Mr. Foidl "personal cell phone" identifying the specific model numbers of the four (4) Mitsubishi heat pump components installed which qualified for the Federal Tax Credit and stating, "I needed an invoice setting forth the unit (or cumulative) cost(s), to include cost of installation" for the units installed. Mr. Foidl responded, "I'll get this handled." Failing to receive a response, on Monday, January 20, 2025, I sent Mr. Foidl, a text on his "personal cell phone," stating, "Is there a problem providing the requested information? It's (sic) been over a week since you would "...get this handled." Again, NO RESPONSE RECEIVED. This is the "customer service" provided by Tarpy Heating and Air, a company designated by the BBB as a A+ rated company. Unfortunately, I relied on the BBB rating when selecting this company and not the YELP ratings, which I viewed after the fact, and include numerous comments regarding problems with obtain customer service. The consumer must be cognizant of the fact that once the contractor is paid in full, the customer is not longer Buyer beware of this company. American Residential Services (ARS), Business Customer Service, need not expend any time responding as I do not have the time to waste in continuing to address this issue with Tarpy. I moved into a new place and had the original installer (not Tarpy) come out to inspect my HVAC. They gave it a once-over and said it was good to go. I used Tarpy exclusively at my last home for four years. I wanted to make some changes to the system so I called them. I was looking to see what my options were for cooling the second floor better. I was interested in a whole-home humidifier for when the Santa Anas are here, and I also wanted to ask about using a mini-split in the bedroom so we didn't have to cool the whole house at night. When I spoke to them over the phone, they insisted I needed to have an inspection and pay the $99. I was looking to buy so I was surprised because usually they send someone out with an iPad to build a quote. They relented and agreed to send someone. The Tarpy rep showed up in a private vehicle and had no Tarpy branding on. I had to ask who he was. I explained what I needed and he told me to call a handyman to add additional duct work upstairs. I asked about replacing ducting and he told me it started at $7k. I was surprised as they replaced all the ducting in my last home for $1995. I also asked about the mini-split and he said they install them but I'd be better off getting one from Lowe's. I was going to ask about a tankless water heater (they installed one at my previous home) but I ended our interaction as he was probably going to tell me do it myself. We purchased our HVAC system from Tarpy in 2021 and couldn't have been happier with the service. All the way from sales to installation the team was absolutely great. Fast forward to 2024 and things have dramatically changed. I called to schedule an appointment to have our condenser temporarily moved. I should have known something was up from that first call as they women on the phone didn't understand what I was even asking for at first but I proceeded to move forward. Issues we ran into: 1. They kept moving the appointment time on us and it was frustrating as I was waiting at home all day from them. 2. While discussing this appointment on the phone, no one ever told me that the service would not be done that day rather it was just an appointment for a quote. I fully expected the service I called in for and scheduled would actually be done that day and a Tarpy truck full of techs would come out. 3. When the guy showed up, he comes in an unmarked white truck with zero Tarpy branding on it and zero Tarpy branding on his person. This was not our experience when we initially used them as even the sales guy had a Tarpy truck and a Tarpy shirt in 2021. 4. He quoted an insane amount of $$ to temporarily move a condenser and back and the quote was so high it is seriously theft. $6800 to move a $4500 condenser with no additional work/parts required. Let's just say that is 16 hrs of work on the absolute high side? they want to charge $400 per hour for LABOR 5. After my husband asked him to leave, he called into the phone system and asked a manager to call him ASAP. No one ever called. We ended up looking up the reviews and saw that all the most recent ones are terrible. Did a Google search and found out they sold the company in 2023 to American Residential Services/Rescue Rooter. Now it all making sense as this company might have the Tarpy brand but it is NOT the same company as before. This new company is trying to do business on the Tarpy name and all the excellent reviews from 2023 and before. It's apparent they outsource a lot of things now and are trying to charge absolutely insane prices to people based on their prior reviews. It's a total shame because the website still says "Family Owned and Operated" but that is not the case. I'm sure they will respond with the same canned response they have been doing for all their recent poor reviews as well and asking upset clients to call in when we already did that and no one got back to us. Let me tell you about this dude Scott. Scott. Is. Amazing. On Sunday, I noticed my bathroom sinks backing up with water and I already knew what it was: a clogged condensation line in my AC. While I had experienced it before, I had never mastered the art of PREVENTING it. I called Tarpy and got an appointment scheduled for a few days later. Their communication was awesome: sending out appointment reminders the day before and letting you know when the technician is on his way on the day of. I feel like the issue was pretty straightforward and just about any technician could have resolved it. What made me come here and leave a review on Yelp is how awesome Scott was with my pets. I have 6 dogs, all rescued, and all a little weird given their various past lives and traumas. Whenever a stranger enters my home, there is always a lot of barking to start and it eventually (mostly) dies off and then everyone is quiet. I always make sure to put the dogs away when someone is here working in the house, but Scott ended up needing to go into the room that the dogs were in. He handled them all like an absolute rockstar, knowing how to greet them (holding out the back of his hand for them to sniff) and was SO patient and nice to them as they "helped" him (I think in their minds they were) with his task. Even Prince, my super nervous Schnauzer warmed up to him after a few minutes and was so happy to have him here working on the AC. Scott did talk me through how I can clean the line in the future so I can prevent it from getting stopped up again, which I so greatly appreciate. I don't know how long he has worked for Tarpy or how much you're paying him but give this guy a promotion because his customer service is stellar. Turns out the coil they installed was too small for my 2.5 ton condenser which is why the AC system they installed never fully cooled our house down. UPDATE: I called the number below and asked for Cherylynn and they said "Who?" I asked for a manager to call me back and no one has called me back. Do not use this company. DO NOT HIRE TARPY PLUMBING, HEATING & AIR. This company is looking to sell you an annual membership for maintenence rather than fix the issue they were hired for. My AC split unit was spitting water and after researching the issue, I knew that I had a clogged drain. I called Tarpy for assistance it went terribly. First, when you schedule an appointment, it is done through a call center that is used for several companies. The call center said the wrong company name when they were confirming my appointment and this should have been a red flag that there is no attention to detail. I was given a 12-4pm window with a 30-40 minute call ahead for my appointment. I called to follow up on the estimated time of arrival twice because there was no one here by 4pm. Next, the "lead tech" Jonathan arrived and called me once he parked the car. This did not give me the lead time to turn on my AC and let it run to show the leaking water. Because he did not give me a heads up about his arrival, I could not show him the problem. Rather than listen to me about what the problem is, Jonathan simply sprayed a chemical on my AC split unit. I told him that there is a clogged drain and that is why the water is spitting. He was more interested in selling me an annual membership than fixing the problem. He never even looked at the drain or took the cover off of the AC unit. He left before the water started backing up. Approximately 15 minutes after he left, the water started spraying again. I sent him a picture and he told me it would be approximately $615 to fix this plus the $240 annual membership contract fee. He told me someone would call me the next morning between 7:30-8am. No one called me during that window. I knew that I was being bamboozled. BOTTOM LINE - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I spoke to my neighbors and called another HVAC company to clean the drain. The other company did an excellent job and cleaned the drain for a reasonable price. read more

My main line from the curb to the house sprouted a pinhole leak. Tarpy's technician Aaron came out and immediately fixed the problem and also noticed that my sprinkler system was connected to high-pressure city water. He suggested that we move the sprinkler PVC pipe above the pressure regulator and thus preserve the system. This was done by Aaron and his helper Ronnie. Both worked hard and I had the entire line replaced. I can't thank Aaron enough as he was a hard worker and very easy to get along with, great at explaining things, and left the whole area spotless despite a lot of trenching and dirt. I highly recommend Tarpy. I spoke the Aaron and Ronnie's supervisor, George who was also very friendly, and was told that if I ever have an issue with the work done that they will stand behind their service. After watching a recent episode of "This Old House" that reviewed servicing a furnace, I asked a few detailed questions and John included me in on all those details and more as he performed the camera inspections of the heat exchanger etc. along with CO tests. We purchased a new $25K HVAC system (including extended warranty and service/maintenance contract) from Tarpy 3 years ago. The system works great, however we've had nothing but problems with their service. Every time a technician comes out to do scheduled maintenance (covered in the package we bought), suddenly we have issues and they're try to charge us thousands of dollars in "upgrades". We've had a technician forget to change the filters, which is essentially the only thing they really need to do with a brand new system and forget the plug the AC unit back in which resulted in us coming home to our house being 90 degrees inside! The company has recently switched to a new answering service. I have been trying to reach someone for 2 months and left numerous messages never to receive a call back! Very disappointed. Honestly, customer for life.  From their Dawn in customer service, Brad my technician, Carlos my project manager (comfort advisor), Hernan and Oscar as installers, and even the owner Mr. Tarpy himself. All provided the best customer service. My original AC system was not cooling on a Tuesday day and they had a technician (Brad) come on wednesday to do a free diagnosis. (I have membership with them and diagnosis checks are free. I highly recommend one). Brad gave me an honest assessment on my 11 year old system. Something was leaking and the cost to repair, investigate the leak could better be used on a newer efficient system.  I agreed and not even a couple hours later Carlos was able to stop by to go over options. Carlos is one of the best project managers you'll ever meet in anything. Experienced, knowledgeable, meticulous (you can see how detailed and drawn out his plans system plans are for other customers. He'll do the same for you). Most of all he cares about you and your project and will work with you to get a great system and will do all he can to get you within your budget.  He even called the owner and got me a military veteran discount. We agreed on a system and they amazingly were able to come the next day Thursday. The installers Hernan and Oscar came the next day and finished ahead of time. They were clean (always wore booties) and respectful. That night I noticed a humming from the furnace so I called Friday morning about the sound. They had a tech (Mike) come out that same day and fixed the issue in 20 minutes. No more humming. The whole team works together and love working for this company. You'll notice that when you talk to them. You won't get this service level with any home warranty contracted AC guy (don't get me started with First American). We just replaced our AC and heater with a variable speed heat pump system using Tarpy. They were professional and thorough when they came out to give a quote and they were able to match competitor's pricing (as long as we were flexible on when they did our job). I think they wanted to slot us in between other jobs, and that worked for us. Crow and Jasper did the installation. We've only had the system for a week so far, but things seem to be working well. We like the ecobee thermostat system they set up too, so we can easily control everything via our phones. They threw in free registers/supply vents, which was nice too. read more

***THIS REVIEW CONTAINS TWO UPDATES*** Jared was my sales rep and during his visit he gave me a very detailed breakdown of what I needed to efficiently cool my house during San Diego's summer heat. Just don't get fooled into 'limited' special promotions or any other sales gimmicks. It's inevitable w/ any sales pitch so take anything in regard to losing out on a deal with a grain of salt. It was something about selecting 15 families for a discount and only two families remaining for selection. The coupon is advertised on Yelp w/o the family selection 'deal.' Besides the sales gimmicks the price breakdown was fair and they use highly quality equipment. After Jared left I even got the President of the company, Brock, on the phone to negotiate a little more because I was about to go with another company with a lower price. He was very responsive to what I had to say and gave me a better deal I couldn't refuse. The good: Day of installation the two technicians SEEMED to know what they were doing. Each of them have been installing HVAC systems for seven years each and both previously worked for ASI. The A/C system in the backyard was professionally installed with electrical wiring and plumbing looking very clean. The furnace and coil in the attic was of the same caliber (so I thought). As promised, Jared even paid a visit toward the end of the end of the installation to make sure everything was going smoothly. The techs walked me through everything they installed. They even went beyond what was required by code and installed two fail safes instead of one at the coil in case of a leak. The bad: Cleanup could of been a lot better. One of the techs dropped a bag of screws in my living room. I found six scattered underneath the dining table and couch after they left. Doesn't go well with a two year old around wandering around. In the attic I found plywood and vent piping from my old furnace laying around. The last thing I found was a fountain of water coming from the ground in the morning b/c of a broken sprinkler head. The head was thrown back in the hole in the ground it was originally placed in as if I wouldn't find something wrong. I would've been ok if it was disclosed to me rather than hiding it. UPDATE 2/18/21: Ken and Kai promptly contacted me after hearing about what happened and sent Mr. Handyman services to replace my one broken sprinkler head. Because they did they I believe they deserved a high rating. UPDATE 2/25/21: I had to drop from 5 stars to 3 stars, which seems reasonable after you read this. About a week after using our furnace my wife smells something in the house and it eventually goes away after about 30 minutes and thinks nothing of it. I wasn't home so I wasn't there to help her locate the source of the smell. She also told me she heard a bang around the same time and went outside to see where the sound came from; nothing obvious found. The next morning my wife text me the thermostat wasn't working and I told her I'll look into it when I get home. When I arrived I made sure all the wires were snug behind the thermostat and still nothin, none of the breakers in the main electrical service panel were tripped. So, my next course of action was to go into the attic and see if a sensor tripped causing the furnace to not work. What I found was confusing and irritating. I thought the furnace failed after one week of use, which it did but because of human error. I called Tarpy, sent some photos and they sent Bruce within a couple of hours to determine what happened. Bruce was in the attic for about 5 minutes and informed me what he found. A can of PVC glue inside the furnace. WTF? This glue is HIGHLY flammable and burned parts of the furnace and as you can see in the photos. This could've burned my house down WITH my wife and baby inside. The heat was so strong it melted the plastic vent in front of the unit, cracked the powder coating, and singed the gas line. Tarpy sent out Jason, their senior tech, to replace the furnace. I requested Jason look over all of the work the previous techs did. Everything else appeared to have been installed correctly. I did notice during this repair visit the ENERGYGUIDE a sticker on my A/C unit outside had been torn off. It's the yellow sticker on major appliances that tells you the estimated yearly energy cost. I do like to compare my energy usage to what it's rated to, so I was a bit disappointed it was taken off without informing me first. In the end, Tarpy extended my warranty for my equipment, which is what I expected at the very least. I initially said I highly recommend this business BUT now that I updated my review and I had some time to think about what had happened, all I can say is DO YOUR RESEARCH. I don't think this business is bad one but based on my experience I don't see anyway to give - five star rating. I just think the employee made too serious of a mistake that some attention to detail and more company training could've prevented. read more

We just worked with Tarpy this week. Of all three companies that came out, Joe came out and assessed our system. He was the only honest one of all the companies to not try to sell me a new addition system for our third story. He looked at our current (4 ton) system, did his calculations and let us know that a new system would not be best for us. He recommended to move some ductwork around, and do some resizing. He explained everything to a T. He saved us thousands! So thankful. Matthew and Dawson came out to install. Awesome guys. So respectful to our home. From laying down drop clothes throughout the house while they were working to simply wear booties on their shoes while walking through the house. They allowed me to explain what our goals were, and then worked their butts off all day. They didn't leave until the job was done and they didn't leave until everything was fully cleaned. I am so happy with my new Mitsubishi cooling and heating system installed by Tarpy. I am in an older building and the set up in my unit was extremely complicated. I had another company come here five times bringing two different units without being able to figure out a solution on how to replace the air handler. The old one was not compatible to modern units and the set up in my ceiling was dated and awkward. I decided to call for a second opinion and in walked Jared and he was very confident in how we could solve the issues by moving the air handler to my attic. My technicians Cole and Ryan were fantastic. They took great care of my home, always cleaned up and worked very hard. The project took a little longer than expected but they never complained and were always polite to me and my pups. I'm so happy I have this sleek, hi tech and modern unit instead of the traditional square or round ones that would take up more space. That's definitely important since it sits on my balcony so I always have to look at it through my glass door or sit right next to it. Now I have more space and it is so quiet! Since the weather has been so strange in the last month I have got to use both the heat and cooling and both works perfect and we have passed the inspection. Very poor customer service and communication. Called last week to set up an appt for gas line removal and replacement. Was very clear that I needed a specific day and time because another company would be here to coordinate replacement of fire table. After several calls to confirm that someone could be there on time, I got the total run around and was told the tech and managers would call me to confirm, no one ever called. Do not and will never recommend Tarpy to anyone. read more

Had an annual tune up today. The tech "Sam" did an awesome job. He pointed out an issue that had not previously been identified. If not corrected it could cause problems in the next.couolemof years. I called Tarpy a few years ago and replaced my AC unit. Since then I have tried to have a tuneup for the unit over the last 2-3 years without luck. This year I received an email to take advantage of a tuneup special. I called a number of weeks ago, and last week I waited without anyone showing up. I called that morning and the appt. Was scheduled for a week later. Could have been my mistake but I typically get dates correct on my calendar. I asked them to make my appt first in the am. Yesterday I waited and no one showed again. I called and rescheduled for today and was promised someone at 0800. Yeah you guessed it......no show. At 810 I get a call from the tech with an eta of 45 min which does not work for me as discussed with the office now three separate times. One of two things, either their schedulers are terrible communicators or the tech's don't follow directions. Long story for a short answer....don't use Tarpy they will waste your time. I will look for a more punctual responsible company. Thank you for the response, but if you were truly concerned you would call me...you have my phone number. You would not make your client call you a 4th time. Just a thought. read more

Yesterday he came back out to do a regular maintenance visit and again he was very thorough in explaining everything to us , clean and efficient worker. Used Tarpy to install my Condenser and HVAC system at my house a couple years ago. At the time I requested what it would cost to move the condenser so I could have the concrete redone. The tech assured me it would be only $350 to do that when I was ready. Since it was a couple years I expected it to be a little more so I was fine with that. They said it was $129 to come out and move over the phone, which I knew couldn't be right but continued. They missed both windows they gave 10-1 and 1-4 and arrived just after 4:00. The tech said it would be a little more as it was 2 trips and they were storing at my house. So I asked him to get me the proposal so we could get going. He worked on it and came back at $6,800 for the moving of the condenser! My condenser cost just less than that new! I was clearly not moving forward at that point so asked he to take off. I am posting this so anyone looking knows to be weary of the promises from the technicians as this wasn't even close and in fact was out right robbery. Ugh. Spent a lot of money with Tarpy over past year with installation of new heating/AC unit. Of course the sales person promised "5-star service because of their 5-star reviews". This has not been my experience. Now, one year later, I'm simply trying to reach them to request some tax credit information and they've switched to one of those off site answering services for customer service, which, from my first 2 calls, appears to employ low-skilled operators that are difficult to understand and communicate with. Tarpy had been responsive previously to our concerns, but most issues were never quite resolved. I'm left with the feeling that I paid way too much and am getting way too little. Avoid this company. They appear to have some internal operational issues that are only getting worse. read more

I can't believe that my service was done on 10/12 and the transaction is still pending with my loan. I called Wells Fargo and they said they are waiting for correct paperwork on Tarpy's end so I can start paying it off. Also, to get the final permit I would need a third party to come out. Third party doesn't have any availability until end of December. I asked Tarpy if I can use another company to speed things along. After a week of waiting I called them yesterday to follow up. I received a call back today saying that the third party agreed to fit me in and so I called them right now and they said No, they are completely booked. I honestly don't know what to do. First contact with Tarpy Heating & Air was at the Del Mar Home Show in Jan'24 where I saw they had a Mitsubishi mini-split heat/AC unit on display. Stopped/talked and was impressed with their rep, so made an appt to have our home (same) units inspected & serviced. Service rep Robert arrived on time and conducted the inspection & cleaning. Very impressive young man - knowledgeable, diligent and obviously experienced. Well spoken, he answered questions fully and we learned a lot. Signed up for their extended home service plan. They came to check our hvac and recommended new insulation. They installed next day but knocked out the electrical in half my house the day before Thanksgiving. Still haven't heard back after calling repeatedly a week later. They knew the electrical was affected when they left and Sid they might have blown a fuse, however we checked and none were popped. They still left!! And never followed up. Unprofessional I would take my money someplace else. read more

My daughter and I sought services in El Cajon for a clogged kitchen sink drain on Thanksgiving 2024. Person who answered phone promised inspection only for $49. Simple problem, drain line needed to be snaked, typical price for this is under $200. Tarpy's sent a smooth talker out who mumbled something about cast-iron drain lines, but he wasn't equipped with a rooting tool, and no estimate. Instead, he was intent on referring the matter to another company. A few more hours later, another smooth talker from a different company showed up, $650 estimate, sure, it was Thanksgiving, I expect to pay a little more, but three times the going rate is just outrageous. We declined. Then, demand for $99 inspection fee, not $49. Sent him packing. I wish I could give these folks zero stars. read more
