I was so thrilled to hear I could buy Tree Juice Maple syrup and Mastadon hot sauces at the made in NY store in Grand Central station. I love both brands so much as I know they are made small batch and by super friendly chefy friends which make the best and perfect gifts. I brought home several of the mini sets of syrup I love the vanilla and bourbon. All their flavors are so good especially the garlic is super versatile for cooking and salad dressings. The hot sauces are also amazing. I also picked up some bjorn corn the maple is made with Tree Juice as well. I love that Catskills partnership. I also picked up some lime mint cocktails in a can that I found out when I got home they are from Edison, NJ - close enough, the were very good. I love there options, I like there are taste testings although I never tried them but there is a good selection and seating in the location. They take apple pay and it's well lit and located in the section where everyone is always at. Staff is friendly and it's a great use of the space. Today Taste NY reopened their Grand Central location. Welcome back! What makes Taste NY great is that all the food, drink, and various items are grown and produced in NY. They are still setting up so I have to come back and check out what other items they will have next time. This location focuses on wine and beer - IPAs. I haven't been to this location previously so I don't have anything to compare to. However, I have been to other Taste NY locations and even one that is similar in size to this one though that one has homemade ice cream! There is 1 wall with alcohol ranging from red/white wine and beers - IPAs. Snacks include potato chips, popcorn, cookies, bars, nuts, and pretzels. They have items from honey to truffleist items, diy items to uncooked pasta. Hope they have chocolate barks and ice cream in the future. read more

I've been going to Taste NY on and off in the past few months since I work near Grand Central on Vanderbilt. Taste NY is located on the northwest passway of Grand Central across from a Starbucks and a few storefronts from the New York Transit Museum. This is a nice spot to find a decent selection of wine and some snacks including small sandwiches, cheeses, meat/jerky and other packaged goods. They also sell muffins and some pastries as well as coffee drinks. My experience has been ok but over time and frequency of visits I noticed the service in short sucks at least in the morning after the rush and when ordering coffee/breakfast. I normally get a muffin which are good, I recommend the Morning Glory - healthy and delicious but a bit pricey $3.45. But occasionally I'll order a latte. Once I ordered a hazelnut latte and I walked away, took a sip and regrettably and disappointed it was just a plain latte. The next time I ordered a latte extra hot and it was at best semi-warm. The staff tends to "talk shit" about customers in front of customers. Makes it a bit uncomfortable. Service in general at least in my experience has been subpar but I will come back for a muffin and maybe investigate the wine selection but then again there are other wine shops in the area. read more

This place gets 5 stars for the selection and 1 star for the prices. I love drinking local, and I've been a fan of New York beer, wine, and liquor practically since I could legally drink. The only drawback to a lot of the great stuff being made in the state is that it's so hard to find. You have to either scour the internet, pray a local store has a small "pity" selection of local products, or order directly from the producer (where possible) and pay huge shipping fees. This is an admirable project, and I go here with the desire to buy something on a regular basis, but I just can't do it because of the prices. Maybe I'm burdened by knowledge, but it's almost like they're buying these products at retail prices and then re-selling them. As much as I want that Finger Lakes Riesling, I can't bring myself to spend $35 for a wine I know costs $19. They're charging $36 for a cocktail mixer I've found in other places for $16. I thought living in this area made me immune to sticker shock, but this store proved me wrong. These unbelievable and shocking markups are present all over the store. If you absolutely have to have something from New York, and you can't find it anywhere else, then this is a good bet. If not, avoid. If the state is serious about showcasing New York products, they should also be serious about selling those products at fair prices. Also, an interesting component of this store: since it only sells products made in New York State, it's allowed to sell beer, wine, and liquor in the same store. Overpriced (even for Grand Central markup standards) and a complete rip-off. On top of that, terrible service. I bought a 375ml bottle of Widow Jane Bourbon (aged 8 years) from here for $59. With tax, it came out to $64. Two other liquor stores in the area (Beekman Liquors, B&G Wine) carry this bottle for $38 and $45, respectively. I thought I might have been charged a higher price accidentally. I know stores within Grand Central have major markups to offset their rent, but this was pretty significant, so I decided to call the store owner and find out. I wasn't prepared for the rude, condescending, disappointing service. He kept telling me that I didn't know what I was talking about, that there's no way people are charging the prices I quoted, and that if I came back into the store, he'd show me the price he paid for the bottle. He was really defensive about the fact that he didn't mark up the bottle price any more than what other people in the area sell it for, which is just not true. It was especially upsetting because I didn't even ask for a refund, exchange (they don't allow it, anyway), or price adjustment - I just wanted to know what was up. Caveat emptor, I guess. read more

Located in Grand Central Station is a fantastic wine, beer, and spirits store that is focused on New York State produced products. I frequent this place almost daily as I like to browse a David it's not too busy ask questions about their selections. They stock many hard to find bourbons, ryes, whiskies, gins, rums, and unique spirits. Prices for the spirits at first glance might seem high but if you know the pricing for locally sourced small distilleries they are actually fair. The wine selection is excellent. Ditto for the beer and cider. They also have a really good selection of gourmet food products which are also ( drumroll please) made in New York. The store is very busy during prime commuting hours when people are looking to grab a beer for the train or bottles to bring home. The cheese selections are small but well curated. There are some maple syrup and honey choices that are also top notch. Small, crowded but worth a visit or in my case daily visits. Check it out. You will not be disappointed. read more

Walked into this place and walked up to the counter. As I approached, what must have been the owner yells out "watch the floor". At first I didn't pay it any mind, but when I asked him if he had flavored coffee he answered me in such a dismissive way. I try to give everyone the benefit of doubt however it went from bad to worst. I ordered my drink and handed him my money, this man placed my change on the counter. The counter space was so tight I moved over to the side to wait, one of his staff comes and stands next to me and proceeded to watch me. When I turned to look at him for watching me he began to ask me about teas. At that point I had enough of this racist establishment. I told him that I was interested in the cup of iced tea that I purchased and had no interest in stealing anything. Finally realized that I was the target he was yelling about when I entered the location. What a disgusting location.... I've liked this place from the day it opened. I was taking Metro North from Grand Central, and just about to head for track 36 when I saw a nicely lit shop with wine bottles and an array of snacks. Instead of buying my little screw-capped plonk from the portable beverage stand I bought a One Woman Gruner for the ride, along with some high-end chips and cheese. Not only did I discover a female winemaker from Long Island that produces excellent varietals, but I had a great train ride. I closed my eyes and imagined I was riding in a 1950s bar car. I guess you can cruise GCT and put together a picnic basket for your trip that is as good as you can here. Here, it's one stop shopping, which is great if you're cutting it close to departure time. But I also value that everything in the shop is made in New York State. read more

After purchasing some over-priced wine, my very pregnant best friend came in asking if she could use a tiny bit of their creamer because Starbucks ran out. Then I kept overhearing people raving about their muffins as I was sitting down reading my book. I love the idea of this place. It's like a pantry stuffed full of delicious New York made specialty items. The layout is very nice and there are some really neat items in here. They have beer on tap and wine in "to go" cups too, which is an awesome idea. It's a great spot to pick up some drinks and snacks before you get on the train. I have never written a review before but felt compelled to let MOMS know that you CANNOT enter this store with your stroller. "No strollers allowed!" he barked. All I wanted to do was grab a quick iced tea and a bag of chips. Transaction would have taken a minute. I did curse them and I don't apologize. Why this place doesn't have perfect reviews is a total mystery to me. First of all, their wine and beer selection is very respectable. While beer connoisseurs will find plenty of delectable treasures, there are also plenty of regular beers for those who just need a quick fix. Also, hard liquor is absolutely and option too, as well as very good coffee. The best part: IT CAN ALL BE TO GO!! Just grab it and enjoy on your train out to Long Island, if that's where you're headed. Otherwise there's also room inside to sit 'n sip while watching the hustle and bustle of Grand Central Station. It's a unique way to experience this wild environment. Also, the owner (Frank) makes a point of keeping service moving smoothly at New York speed while remaining jolly and friendly the entire time. He recognizes familiar faces without fail and welcomes new ones warmly, in the most New York way one could possibly wish for. Now on a more personal note: one of the first times I came here, I had some drinks and stupidly forgot a bottle I had bought as a gift for a friend. I called that night and it was nowhere to be found...someone else got lucky and walked off with it. The next morning, my phone rang and it was Frank, saying whoever took it should choke on it and that he'd give me a replacement at no extra charge. I wasn't even a regular customer at this point, by the way. He just understands the value of personable service, which is a rarity in this town these days! While some of the prices may be somewhat higher than what you find in NYC's dive bars, please remember: this sort of service in this sort of location is worth so much more than what is actually being charged. Taste NY is one of three craft beer stores (not including the track vendors). The others are Beer Table To Go and Central Market. I find it to be the best of three for two reasons. The first is they offer a good selection of NY craft beers (they also serve a selection of NY wines, spirits, assorted cheese and crackers but I am only interested in the beer). Second you can sit inside the store and drink there on tap specials in beer glass not a plastic cup. They do offer to go cups that you can drink on the train along with a selection of cold bottle and can beers that you can also drink on the train. They are always playing great music and the staff is extremely helpful and can answer your questions. If you use Metro North you should stop on by. read more

I'm a regular and have been for over a year now. The owner is great but there is one guy there that is just absolutely rude and doesn't understand customer service. I went in with my 5 year old on a Sunday asking if I could grab a plastic cup quickly for my daughter as we were hurrying to get to our train. His reply "I can't just go around giving cups away." I thought he was kidding but he was serious. The amount of beer, cider and wine I have purchased and that's how you treat people? Ridiculous. This is the worst place to buy wine in NY. I purchased two bottles on Wed. for a dinner engagement with friends in Brooklyn. Upon opening, both bottles were undrinkable! My husband had to run out to our local place, Scottos where we trust their wine even though our guests had just arrived. Everything is overpriced , the owner frank has his customer favorites ( who are all females he finds attractive) which he allows them to receive either discounted or free coffee and pastries. So if you come In & he does not find you attractive expect to pay full price .
