Stopped by for lunch here! It was a little confusing because Yelp and google pages have one name for a restaurant, while there is a different one on the building and on the wall inside the restaurant. It was rather slow so everything came out really quick. Cumin Lamb satisfied my craving for something spicy 100%. It was has a great fragrant and spicy profile. Green Beans were very nicely cooked: still firm, have some crunch to it, and very well seasoned as well. Fish filet was a soup dish with very rich and mildly spicy broth. It was perfect with rice. The food is amazing--everything is freshly cooked with high heat from the wok, giving it great flavor. The service is excellent as well; the staff is attentive, especially when certain dishes like the mushroom chicken require a little more time to prepare. The ambiance is decent. Didn't go here for a while because of mediocre review rating, but was pleasantly surprised! This place deserves at least a 4 star rating if the food is consistent (which it seems it might not be). First off, portion sizes are different per dish, but be warned that the Beef & Fish Filet in Hot Chili Oil dishes are MASSIVE. I am a sucker for large portion sizes but be prepared to feast on a whole pot of this, which can easily feed 4 people. However, the flavor was on point and there was lots of protein ladled over the bed of bean sprouts hidden underneath. The braised pork belly was beautifully tender, juicy, aromatic, and not too sweet like most places. The cabbage was good, but I feel like a dish with literally just cabbage shouldn't cost $13. The only truly disappointing dish here was the spicy fried intestines - I've never seen mere slivers of intestines before. Every place I have ordered intestines from had the full slices. Not only that but the flavor of these, despite the chili and peppercorns, was lacking. Service was okay, water was refilled adequately. Ambiance was not too loud, or too bright. Just came back from a vacation where I had no Asian food for 11 days so I was craving all the typical bold flavors SO bad. I've heard great things about how authentic Chengdu's dishes were so I decided to stop by for dinner the day after I came back. We ordered 1 of each protein just to see which dishes we would like more. When I tell you all of these dishes were equally good, I'm totally not exaggerating! Each dish was so flavorful, great spice level and seasoned to perfection. Nothing was bland, overly salty or too sweet. A group of 4 of use killed all these dishes and I would go back in a heartbeat! Next weekend is Lunar New Year but we wanted to celebrate early! My hubby and I had a date planned for Saturday afternoon to get this for take out, watch Everything Everywhere All at Once and enjoy NFL playoffs. I walked right in at 11am with my order already written out. I knew this would be a splurge for just the two of us but I'd have tons of leftovers - so it's a win win. We ordered crab rangoon (hubby), pork wontons in hot soy sauce, Chengdu spare ribs (medium), spicy dry pot with shrimp, lotus root, black fungus & shiitake mushrooms and bean sprouts (medium), 1/2 a Peking duck and shrimp fried rice. I wanted only a side of fried rice but they don't offer that so I had to order an entree sized portion. It came out promptly in 15 mins, I doubled checked the order in the parking lot and zoomed home! The aroma in the car was torture. It smelled so good! As soon as I got home, I spread out our own buffet and we dug in. The wontons, I'm afraid, just aren't transportable. They're still very tasty but they sort of stuck together with the steam. Dining in they're fantastic! So, I wouldn't order those to go again. I put a base of the shrimp fried rice down, then spooned the dry pot stir fry over that. The dish is brought alive by the oil and chilies, then the other ingredients are wonderfully added in. YUM! My hubby had never had that before and he loved it. The spare ribs, piled high with more chili peppers, a few green bell pepper slices with onion were good. Salty, flavorful, spicy, just what we were after! The duck.. oh my goodness. I felt bad that the skin soaked in all the steam on the ride home, I bet that would've been good but I like my duck skin crispy so I pulled that off. I ate about 4 of those little wraps by myself! First, slather some hoisin in the middle, add the duck, then the cucumber and onion. I think this may be the first time I've ever had those little wraps - and when you get a bite of that all together.. it is soooo good. It's not a fancy place to dine in, it's definitely IMO convenient to sharing dishes. I will go back for more dry pot, always get those ribs! And, it's definitely a splurge - all those delicious things soaking in spicy chili oil makes my tongue sizzle. There is no secret, I love Sichuan food, so it was necessary I try Taste of Chengdu. Came here on a weeknight with a friend and we were quickly served. We ordered the crab rangoons, the chongqinng chicken, and the custom spicy dry pot. The rangoons were ok, but didn't have any crab in them, so I wouldn't recommend these. The other two dishes are must trys. The Chongqing chicken is actually some of the best I've tried. The dish was perfectly seasoned! In the dry pot, I chose beef belly, shrimp, bamboo shoots, and wood ear mushrooms with a medium spicy flavor. The flavor is great, but for my personal taste I would go mild next time so I can enjoy the flavors more. Overall great experience and I'd visit again! read more

Decor is nicely appointed and reminds me of chengdu for some reason (probably because it was always Grey and cloudy there). You can order from the online menu which is accessible with QR code. Mung bean jelly was a little more vinegary than other places I've tried. Rice is $1 a bowl. I like the tea pot - got nice heft. The marinated trotted is served warm and isn't spicy. My kid appreciated that. Tan tan noodles was more peanuty than other places but not overbearing. The deep fried chicken cube with dry chili pepper (bone in) isn't the same size chicken as the other boneless dish. The pieces are much bigger. And actually they aren't cubes. one of my favorite sichuan places i've been to. a 3.5 star rating on a chinese restaurant means you know it's gonna be amazing. i loved everything we ordered: mala fish with tofu, chongqing chicken cubes (boneless comes crispy, bone in comes sauteed), mapo tofu, water spinach, and mala jelly appetizer). server was so kind to consider us and put in our order before a neighboring large party :P food came out quickly and fresh and hot and good portions with great prices. I always like lots of garlic and peppercorn dishes however they are not as spicy although I requested 5/5 but that's ok. We were surprised that there was country music playing in here when we entered but the food was pretty authentic. We expected Chinese music, and when my husband and I joked about that with our waiter he laughed and changed the music for us! Very lovely staff, everyone who worked there ended up stopping by our table to say hi to us, it was sweet, you can tell they love what they do! Food was pretty delicious! BACKGROUND I used to love a similarly named restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley in LA, so thinking it was a branch out here in TX, we happily went. Been here 3 times now. FOOD We've had some really good dishes and some mediocre ones. The ones that have really stood out have been almost 5's, but for some reason have been knocked down 1 star for personal preference. One of our go-to's has been their Peking duck. Really nice, tender duck meat, nicely presented and served with scallions, pancakes, and dipping sauce. On the last, the dipping sauce has a slightly sour taste to it that I personally don't like. (4/5) Also they're a bit stingy with the pancakes so we have ordered more (not free). They have this nice Chengdu style fried chicken w/ peppers (you know, the dish where they top a ton of chilis on them) and while not as good as the restaurant in LA, its still pretty good (4/5). On the veggie side, they make this excellent stir fried green bean dish. Really simple, but delicious (5/5). Some have not been so good. Last time we ordered egg plant. The chef must've forgot that he put oil in there and added another ladle of oil. We took it home, put it through a sieve and served it over rice (3/5 for the prep). SERVICE Sometimes excellent, sometimes hard to flag a staff member down. But they always deliver what you want. RETURN VISIT? Its nice to have authentic chinese food in the carrollton area! There aren't many Chinese places around considering the area is ktown, but i'm glad this place opened up. They have a wide variety of sichuan style dishes. Most of everything i ordered has been quite good. Some of my favorites are fish or beef in hot oil, garlic pork belly, and smoked pork belly. The fish or beef in hot oil are cooked nicely and very tender, lots of flavor and perfect amount of kick in the spices. They also have chinese-american dishes which are better than other comparable places! The lunch specials come at a compelling price and they serve quickly, so its a good place to stop by for a quick lunch as well. if I don't feel like driving up to plano for chinese food, then this place hits the spot nicely. read more

So disappointed. I don't have a lot of real traditional Chinese restaurants near the house and was excited to see this place was around. We ordered the dry hot pot (beef, potatoes, mushrooms, and cabbage), pork belly with tea tree mushrooms, dry-pot spare ribs, dandan noodles, the vegetable deluxe and spring rolls. The potatoes that came in the hot pot were very undercooked and almost on the point of raw. We didn't end up getting the pork belly with mushrooms, but the pork belly with leeks instead. We also didn't get the dandan noodles at all. We ended up calling Ubereats who delivered our food and they assured us that the order was placed correctly with the restaurant. The real fault is on the restaurant in my opinion as everything I ordered came through their system at the restaurant. Not to mention we were out of the money for the dishes that we paid for. To continue, the spring rolls had a weird texture to them and tasted mushy. Not mushy on the outside or in the sense that it was fried and was sitting out for a minute. More like the inside vegetables were a little off, mushy. The two things I enjoyed about the meal was the overall mala flavor for the hot pot and the spare ribs which were tender. I'm glad I found a place that serves several of the authentic Chinese dishes that I've grown up eating. Food is good, not great, but good given the price of the food. There are a few hits and definite misses from what our party ordered. Spicy Dry-Sautéed String Beans - This dish is definitely a favorite amongst our family. It was very tasty cooked through but still had good texture to it. Seasoning was a bit heavy, but still very good. Braised Beef Noodle Soup - The price point is good and the portions were agreeable as we were able to share it with 2 kids and an adult. Soup was good despite being a bit bland. There a few places in the DFW that do it much better like King Noodle in Richardson. The vegetables were fresh, noodles were just okay as it tasted it a bit overcooked. Shredded Pork with Dry Bean Curd - This dish was very good and tasted like what I used to get at home. Not overly seasoned, but well flavored. There was a tinge of oiliness to it, much to my delight, and a very good ratio of pork to dry bean curd. This dish hit the spot for me and always goes great with a bowl of steamed rice. Steamed Buns - This is their version of steamed juice dumplings or xiao long bao. However, this was far from what anyone would want. They were definitely over cooked in my opinion. The skins were extremely thick as well. Flavors were just okay. Nothing to be impressed with. I can't be sure if this dish would have been anywhere near better if they hadn't obviously overcooked it. They had completely forgotten that we ordered this dish until we had literally finished our entire meal. Overall, the food is good for the few we liked. Lots of misses. Service was not the greatest as it seems we were forgotten and they didn't quite remember all the food we ordered. Forgotten dishes should not have been delivered overcooked. It's unfortunate because I really wanted to like this place and had no expectations walking in. I'm happy to have a Sichuan restaurant finally in the Ranch 99 Carrollton complex. It's authentic tasting Sichuan food which means spicy, however they do have a ton of dishes that aren't spicy as well. Favorite dishes: stir-fried scallion beef (highly recommend, the beef is sooo tender), stir-fried rice cake, garlic eggplant, kung pao chicken, and tomato and egg. All the dishes I've had are really good, you can taste the wok flavor into them if you know what I mean. The service is alright, but sometimes when they're really busy you do have to chase down a sever. I came in with three friends for lunch and we each left full, content, and still carrying leftovers thanks to the generous portions. It was my first time finally trying mabo dofu and a very high bar has been set. It was only mildly spicy and the Sichuan peppers were pleasant but not overwhelming. I have never understood why this place isn't always packed. I take many of my friends there and it usually becomes their favorite place to eat as well. The menu has a lot of choices ranging from the usual Chinese food (e.g., Orange Chicken) to Szechuan cuisine (e.g., tripe in hot chili oil). I prefer to stay in the middle of that range. We always go with the Chongqing Spicy Chicken (boneless) and Beef in Hot Sauce. I was nearby and saw this restaurant and it was new to me so I decided to order a few things to try for carry out . I love spicy food, too. I ordered A8 - Pork Wonton in Chili Oil, L2 - Cumin Lamb stir fry and F11 - Fried Fish Filler in Chili Oil. A lot for one person, I know but this is what I do when I go to a new place. I see that a few people were disappointed in their food, I just think you are used to one thing tasting one way and think it should taste like that at all restaurants...people cook it differently. Enough said here...I'll talk about my order. A8 was great! Thick wonton wrapper wrapped around a morsel of tender pork drenched in chili oil. This tasted wonderful, I wished I had more of the sauce or ask for it on the side so that the wontons would not have soaked it all up on the way home. I mean, c'mon, there were 12 pieces. More sauce or ask for it on the side ahead of time! My two entrees were: L2 - a cumin lamb stir fried with scallions, chilies and cilantro. Juicy cuts of semi-thin lamb seasoned with cumin and chilies hit your nose and throat at the same time. F11 - fried fish fillets stir fried in chili oil with scallions and cilantro. When I opened the box, I was surprised at the amount I got. Usually I think it's like one or two large fillets but there were several. I don't know what kind of fish they used but it was thick and meaty. I will have leftovers for a couple of days but I'm happy with that I ordered without looking at Yelp or photos ahead of time.
