Poor management skills. Apparently received an extra order of popcorn chicken in my bag, I'd ordered a large. I assumed they ran out of the large box and gave two small orders. Second time ordering food, I'm not knowledgeable of their portions. My son and I decided to eat inside, when a young man without a uniform approached our table and immediately started grabbing our food bag. He just whispered "I think we gave you the wrong order", snatched the receipt off the bag. I mentioned he can take the extra order but mumbled and leaves. One minute passes, returns to our table without saying a word and starts putting his hands inside our food bag. I then get up, request to pay for the extra order, ignores and says "you've already touched it". I then repeat myself and mention to him, I don't want no awkwardness and I would like to pay, he refused my payment. I then retuned the order. Different approach would have been more appropriate. Relatively new location. I think I first came during their soft opening. Service was slow but I'm glad they learned something from the soft opening because since then service and boba have been top notch! I highly recommend this location. Today I had the Golden Milk Tea with honey boba. My other go to is Honeydew Milk Tea with boba and sometimes coconut lychee jelly. Years back in the early days of boba shops, my go to was their Thai Tea with boba. It used to have that strong distinct tea flavor, but over the years they changed their recipe. After a few years I tried to see if it changed again for the better, alas, it had not. Very sugary and no strong flavor characteristic of Thai tea. I really want to try again but don't want to be disappointed. If there are fans of Tastea's current Thai tea, you have no idea what you missed out on back then. Not all the Tastea's are the same so this is my take on this Harbor location. Great parking, good atmosphere, friendly smiles as you walk in. What more can you ask for. Oh they are Covid ready, so don't forget your mask and if you can smell the persons scent you are way too close. Look down and you will see where you should be standing. This location is new, so bare with them. They are staffing it up all to serve you the best. I got my large Chamango, lite sweet and I can say it hit the spot. Who doesn't love Chamoy. This is currently my favorite boba spot. Milk tea with almond milk alternative is my go-to order! The boba is perfection! My partner loves their Ooh La La smoothie drink and always wants the larger side. Staff are young and don't really understand the importance of customer service yet, but the drinks are so good that I'll overlook the service when eating this place. The only other reason i don't give 5 stars is the location. Located behind Lazy Dog in a small shopping center... it is a bit scary at night. When I heard about Tastea opening on Garden Grove and Harbor I was so ecstatic! It's across the street from the Credit Union I work for which makes it so convenient when I stop by for a branch visit. I'm able to get my boba and popcorn chicken fix! They have such a friendly staff and I was greeted when I arrived and thanked when I left. I value this kind of service as I too coach team members on service. The popcorn chicken was delicious- I got a large and they were so generous compared to most boba places. I love their Jasmine Milk Tea and when I'm feeling fruity I love the Unknown and Bootea Shaker. I get 3/4 sweet on the fruit teas and it's perfect and full sweet on the milk tea. We asked nicely if our third drink was being made (it wasn't) only because three orders ahead of us had already been given out, so he went to make it and then when handing us our drinks we said we didn't need a bag or cup holder, however he didn't seem to hear us so we repeated one more time and he rudely responded "i hear you.". He then proceeded to very mockingly and fakely say "have a good night thank you for your patience" all because we asked about our third drink. Today they were bad. 1st the fries: good thing I checked my bag for that extra sauce I paid for, which at .15 is ok. I tried some fries and they were almost tasteless! Hardly any seasonings! I was told "they changed the recipe and now only put 1 shake of Tasty Spice." A ton of fries & ONE shake of spice?? That's their signature! The only reason I ordered them & paid $5.50 for fries!! I was in the area and was craving some tasty popcorn chicken, when I remembered that Tastea serves very delicious and tastea karate chicken. I've never been to this location before, and figured that I've had very good experiences with the other locations, so when I opened the bag to receive my large order of karate chicken, I was not expecting to be heavily disappointed. Pictured below is my order of a large karate chicken at a price of $10.25, and a snippet of what the regular and large size karate chicken orders are supposed to look like (per photo via online ordering system). You can see the size of the tray, and how empty it looks. This looks like a portion for a regular size at $7.50 that I usually get at the other Tastea locations. I've been reading reviews from this particular location, and it seems like other fellow Yelpers have had similar complaints. The only thing that is saving them from a 1 star review is that the chicken actually tasted good. By far the worst Tastea I've ever been to. Stood at the register for 10 minutes with no one greeting us or telling us they'll be with us shortly. Mind you we came at 8:30PM. There was an Asian guy with shoulder length hair and a black bucket hat who made eye contact... and still walked right by us. There was a girl who was blonde and had her hair in pigtails.. she straight ignored us and didn't bother even looking at us. And then the last girl who was Asian was running around like a chicken with its head cut off who kept looking but never said anything either. (I wasn't able to see any of their names so this is the best description I can give lol) We ended up walking right out. We ordered tastea online before coming in person and was ready right when we got there! Definitely recommend ordering ahead of time so you can skip the line. This is my favorite Tastea in Orange County. They ALWAYS get my orders right. They are also very generous with their portion. I get the karate chicken every week and always ask for extra basil leaves, while other Tastea locations are stingy with the basil, this place always gives me a good amount. They also allow up to three sauce (on their app) for a regular size of karate chicken while other place only allows 1 sauce for a regular size. Service is always quick and on point. You can't go wrong with Tastea! They're the "OG" boba tea house and this location doesn't disappoint! Great and friendly staff, they went out of their way to make sure I was happy with my drink. My go to drink is the Lychee Peachee which of course was made to perfection because you can request some customizations to suit your tastes - I don't prefer my boba drinks too sweet so they were able to tone down the sweetness. The store being clean and well kept and along with the good vibes from the staff shows that management cares and knows what they're doing. In the food and beverage industry it is very important to deliver a consistent experience to your customers and this location hit the mark, they reminded me of why I like going to Tastea and how it became a household name in boba tea. Everything came mild (we saw no signs of the chili powder that we usually see from the food at their OG location). Been going here for nearly a year after discovering their app for ordering ahead and quick pick up. It has been great until the last month. Typically order ahead and ready within 10 minutes or so after. Not sure what's been going on, but every time I go for pick up, there is a group of customers waiting for orders either from app or in-person orders. Last two times specifically, my drink as well as a few others were complete but the employee did not greet or notify the customers. All they had to do was read the names on the drinks and hand them out. Ended up waiting 15 minutes for a completed drink.
