Wonderfully quiet establishment with tasty donuts and awesome sandwiches. I've eaten the Cubano sandwiches everything but just once I had a braised beef round sandwich which was sooooo tender, I almost died. But they only make it once a week I was told. As an added note I called two weeks before my birthday to place an order and I was told no. not " I'm sorry but we're all booked up" etc.. Just no.. I have not been back since.. you could have doughnuts made my God and I will not ever go there again. I visited on Halloween (apologies for the late review) and walked in at 9am, many hours before their closing time, to find a total of 18 donuts available in the display case, none in the process of being cooked, and the chef taking a smoke break, unconcerned with the fact that they had no product. I bought a dozen for my employees, picking from the 5 flavors left. The donuts were very good, although a few of them were a little hard and starting to go stale. The price was reasonable for a small business, their small donuts were priced as a regular sized donut would be at a chain like DD, but that's fair. read more

These donuts were mini, which I like. However they're just the same couple finished dressed in RIDICULOUSLY sugary frosting. I seriously at a bit or two and threw out the entire box. Thought this place has a good reviews and went in early in the morning but had a bad experience with the lady. We ordered 3 dozens mini donuts paid $18 went home to check that only 33 donuts in the box. Called the store and the guy told us to come back to get the money back. Went back again to the store and the lady was there ready with 3 plain donuts on small plate and said no cash refund. She don't even say sorry for the mistake and went out and smoke her cigarette afterwards. She never wear any gloves to serve the donuts, she also handling register and smoke too! For all happened the donuts doesn't even worth all the trouble, basically it is just a dough with decorations. read more

I noted in some earlier reviews confusion about whether Tastease was still open and in its usual location. In 2009 the owners, Susan and Tony, were in process of negotiating a sale that would have resulted in the shop being moved to West Hartford under new management. The deal fell through, so they are still making their magic at 70 New Park Avenue in Hartford. The only thing that amazes me is that these donuts aren't famous throughout the country! They are an ideal size and come in an astonishing array of wonderful flavors. Since each type is uniquely decorated, these confections are as beautiful as they are delicious. I first had them when I received a trio in a beribboned cellophane bag as a favor at a wedding shower. They were the hit of the party, and I had all I could do not to try to cage some extras when my tablemates weren't paying attention. This led to a trip to the shop itself, and I have been hooked ever since. Don't deny yourself the pleasures of this shop. Besides the indescribably good donuts they serve several kinds of coffee, artisanal sodas and savoury cubano-type sandwiches. read more

Don't go after they've just been on TV. They don't prepare or fill stock from the day before (they were out of pastrami, lettuce and tomato and never went to the store to fill up for Saturday). I was told they ran out of donuts 15 minutes after they opened (probably filled by pre-books) and never made any more for the customers who were coming in due to the story on. They made other danishes instead???. Then, with no donuts, they refused to make an egg sandwich for a customer because it was after 11am. Not surprising they are turning customers away for other products when they didn't make enough of the donuts we all went there for. On a positive note. the cuban and steak and cheese were very good. But I'm not driving to Hartford for a steak sandwich. Too bad. read more

Everyone raves about the doughnuts (which are good) but nobody has commented on the Cuban sandwich they serve. It's delicious. The bread is chewy, the butter/mustard spread is just the right amount and it is always steaming hot. Highly recommended. I would add that you should take the time to have a breakfast sandwich or the cuban, which is better than the one I choked down in Ybor City a few years ago! I visited Tastease the morning of my Bushnell Performance. My friend visited me from Philly that morning, and both of us were pretty hungry. We ordered half a dozen doughnuts, some coffee and breakfast sandwiches. We were thoroughly impressed with the variety of doughnuts that they had. The breakfast sandwiches weren't just good... they were PERFECT. I cannot have asked for a better experience, and I will continue going here as a part of my morning routine. This place is wonderful, and small, and unlike any other breakfast place you have visited. They make the doughnut the way it ought to be, fresh. Never sold out - and continue doing what they truly love. The owner was very nice, came out and spoke to us, and gave us a sample of his Dirty Doughnut. Moist tiny cake donuts in dozens of flavors--pumpkin, blueberry, German chocolate cake, boston creme pie, apricot glazed, to name a few. I've always been excited to try this place, after seeing endless amounts of pictures on Yelp & Instagram. I drove almost an hour here about 6 months ago, only to walk in and see the lady sitting on her cell phone talking to "Papi" and she made me wait 5 minutes just to tell me the donuts were all sold out. So 6 months later, I finally made another trip out this morning (called beforehand to make sure there were enough left!) For starters, you'd never expect such scrumptious little donuts looking at it from the outside. It's in the absolute ghetto, and from what I saw the only parking is on the street. Which again, is not in the nicest of spots. Walking in, the woman didn't seem too friendly to begin with. The inside kind of looked out dated and just... weird. I selected a variety of a dozen and a half donuts. These donuts are the size of two bites. As far as the customer service goes, I expected way better. It also took about 6 minutes for the credit card machine to process our payment, and she didn't speak to or look at us during any of it. Very awkward, quiet silence. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the donuts are actually WELL worth the trip/time. I'll definitely be returning at some point, but I'm almost hoping they have nicer people working the counter by the time I do. read more
