This place may be a longtime institution, but the food was disappointing. The corned beef hash tasted like it was on the edge and not fresh. The scrambled eggs were cooked extra well and very tough. The T bone steak and eggs had an odd seasoning with a heavy oil or butter on top of the steak, and the steak was fatty with a lot of gristle. I was only able to eat one egg, one slice of toast, and about a third of the oily grilled steak. The rye toast was good, though even the butter tasted odd. The coffee was nothing special. It seems like more of a pancakes and French toast place. The dining room was extremely crowded, packed in tightly, and hash browns are an extra side order, so we skipped them. Breakfast for two was 44 dollars and the best things were the toast and orange juice. The service was good and we tipped well for the holidays, but I would not return.

Taster Diner has excellent food and truly great service -- the staff was friendly, attentive, and everything I ordered was delicious. The only major drawback is the space itself. It's very tight, and the noise level was extremely loud, which made it hard to enjoy the experience fully. Great food, great people, but the atmosphere could use some work.

I've only eaten here 3x and have enjoyed it each time. It's obviously busier on the weekends, but we got seated immediately at 10am on a Saturday. It's a no frills diner, the service and food is good. Everything came out pretty fast too. The prices are very reasonable which we can all appreciate considering how expensive it is to eat out these days. This spot has been around for 90 years and the employees length of employment is combined of over 100 years. Says a lot of about this piece of Americana!

English muffin. Pre-buttered (the wait staff asked).

This is a true diner, built and opened in Bethesda in 1939, moved to this location in Woodmont Ave in 1958, and then expanded at the site over the years. True diner vibe, with juke boxes at many of the booths. On this visit, I had the vegi omelette with an English muffin and paid extra for a side of home fries with onions. My partner had the Senior turkey platter. The omelette was a nice size and was packed with vegis. The English muffin was buttered (the wait staff asked if I wanted it buttered) and there was plenty on each half. The home fries were pretty good, but a number of the potato pieces were really hard and difficult to chew. The onions with the home fries (extra charge) were a bit burnt, but I like them that way. The turkey platter was a little disappointing. The turkey looks like it's a sliced turkey roll, although it could have been sliced from a turkey. I suppose I should have asked, but, then again, it should be easy to tell the difference which makes me think it's turkey roll. The gravy that came with it was tasty, but a bit thick. The stuffing was good, as were the Brussels sprouts and the cranberry sauce. Overall, a decent platter, but unclear on the source of the turkey. Check out the picture below. The turkey also came with a nice sized side salad. The service here is overall good. The coffee is meh.

Good food and fast service! I love diner coffee. Very crowded on a Saturday morning but was seated right away. Scrapple is hard to find but they had it! I loved how thin and crispy they served it. That's how my family makes it. Quite loud but great diner vibes!

I visited this diner for the first time on a Sunday. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The food was far from good. The pancakes were burned and didn't taste good. Waffles were not good either. How can any restaurant mess up something as basic as pancakes and waffles? This is Bethesda. There are plenty of excellent dining options in the area. Sadly, it's unlikely I'll be returning.

    BLT

This was a small spot with counter seating along with booths that had old fashioned jukeboxes. The menu had something for everybody, and the service was quick as well as friendly. I had a BLT ($6.95). It was done right. The bacon was crispy, while the lettuce and tomato were nicely cut. There was the perfect amount of mayonnaise while the bread was slightly toasted. It was what I wanted at the time. I also tried a pancake and club sandwich. The pancake was okay, a little dry without much flavor when no butter or syrup was added. The club sandwich was just a BLT with turkey. The turkey was cut thick and flavorful. It was pleasant. Will I go back? Yes.

I had some mild expectations when arriving at Barrel & Crow which were quickly met and exceeded. Our party of four enjoyed a truly delightful and delicious meal. From the moment we sat down, our server--Dan--delivered five-star service. He was genuinely friendly, attentive without hovering. His knowledge of the menu and thorough description of the dishes was also notable. Some were his favorites, so he really described them (all) with mucho gusto. It was like we were guests in his home. We basically ended up ordering literally everything he recommended and he was absolutely spot-on. We started with the fried green tomatoes and calamari. Our smorgasbord of entrées included the lamb bolognese (my favorite, though sadly not the one I ordered), a beautifully tender lamb shank, spiced shrimp and grits, and a deeply flavorful andouille and seafood gumbo. Each dish was thoughtful and well prepared, though the shrimp and grits were a bit savorier than I'm accustomed to. Dessert didn't disappoint either. We savored the chocolate torte and also their signature sweet beignets. They were the perfect ending to an already stellar meal.We left behind so many other tempting menu items and looking forward to our next visit.

Tatte has a lot of seating, however, they are so popular it often feels small when waiting in line to order. A few times I have visited I could not find a table and had to take my latte to go. If I visit outside their busier hours or I get lucky I have snagged a table and had the luxury of drinking my latte at a table inside. Despite how crowded it is inside I can always hear my friends and carry on conversation indoors easily. Occasionally it has been hard to hear when your order is ready so I definitely recommend checking in at the pickup area to make sure you get your latte while it is hot. So far my favorite latte is the Black Sesame Latte with nondairy milk. It is not too sweet, a little nutty, and so smooth. I especially love visiting Tatte in the fall for their version of a pumpkin spice latte. The syrup they use is dairy free which is challenging to find. I do wish Tatte had more vegan options, and more clearly labeled on the menu what can be modified to be vegan. Part of the reason I have not tried any of the food is because navigating the menu as a vegan is challenging. I hope they can make some changes so I can have breakfast or lunch with my latte in the future. For now I love visiting Tatte for a treat yo self moment. The lattes are my favorite in Rockville and a wonderful pick me up if I need to brighten my day.

I love the high ceilings, layout, seating; it's giving French café with a twist. The desserts look phenomenal and their coffee/tea selection covers all the basics with a few extras (like pistachio, black sesame, and halva syrup), MEM tea blends, matcha, as well as a selection of coolers that sound absolutely divine using white peach/mint, strawberry/cardamom, and mango/ginger syrups. Who doesn't love a housemade syrup? I ordered the honey halva latte, raspberry meringue, pistachio cherry tart, and a plain butter tube (comes with 17 butter cookies). The butter cookies were perfect dipped in coffee, but almost everything else fell short. Looked divine, tasted so-so. The raspberry meringue might be one of the prettiest desserts I've seen but the filling left something to be desired. It had an odd aftertaste, while the pistachio tart barely had any kind of flavor. The coffee was, in a word, disappointing. The crumb cheesecake cup was tasty, but it felt like it was missing something. The woman who rang me up also wasn't friendly, which seemed a little odd considering that I'm a paying customer. Like she had an attitude for no reason. A simple "pick your coffee up over there" would suffice, considering that it was my first time and the barista was located on the other side of the establishment. Would I come back? If a friend wanted to go. Would I make it a point to? Probably not. My visit had good points but overall it just felt like something was missing.
