How they are able when inflated costs are everywhere and the national government is taxing/ tariffing imported goods too ? The quality for such a tiny spot is still there. No it's not gourmet nor gourmet prices either. It's just good quality " street food " that is competitive as well as a bargain. Yes. Pricing is up but nothing like the other dim sum spots And tastes will satisfy everyone except the most jaded critics who favor sit down elegance with tablecloth and uniformed service staff. This is a hole-in-the-wall dim sum spot located inside the Shun Fat Supermarket (next to Target). I like going to these smaller mom-and-pop places if I'm craving dim sum fixings, but don't want to deal with the larger restaurants and the bigger crowds. Despite its size, this spot still has all my favorites. I picked four of my favorites (photos attached): * Shrimp rice rolls - these were great! the rolls were firm, not watery like some other places. Shrimp was on the smaller side, but expected at this price point. * Shumai - good, flavorful. good portion of meat stuffing * Chive dumpling - I forgot what these are called on the menu - but they had a good portion of meat and chives was the highlight. * Lo Mai Gai (Lotus Wrapped Sticky Rice) - you get two pieces per order - the sticky rice is perfectly moist wrapped in the thick leaves. Good portion of chicken, chinese sausage, mushrooms, seasoning. Prices are fair - $3 to $4 for most items. My total for my order was less than $20. There is indoor seating next to the cafe, but I took my order to-go. Service is prompt and efficient - the gal helping me was friendly and included all the condiments/utensils when I asked her while she was packing up my selections. read more

Zero stars actually. We ordered 5 items from their dim sum selection. The har gow and pork shiu mai were terrible. Skin was all dried up and filling hard, and I'm suspecting it was day old. The lady thought we were going to take it home but we ate there and discovered she tried to screw us. $4.29 per order for low quality food. Size of the dim sum was small too; it's obvious. You'd be better off going to Seafood Cove 2 or Seafood Paradise where their dim sum costs $1 more and about 30% bigger, and fresh, juicy and tasty. Don't let their lower price fool you. I was excited to try this place on New Year's day hoping to find a good alternative since my usual go to fave dimsum spot in the area had a long wait line and I was really hungry for dimsum. Unfortunately, I was so disappointed. The eatery did not seem to be clean and sanitary , the tables on the side were so dirty and the food was cold and tasted like they've been sitting there since the day before . I ordered the ff: Beancurd skin wrapped meat dimsum (not sure what kind of meat was in it and it wasn't so bad but the meat tasted iffy) , Turnip cake which was cold and gelatinous and lacked that pan fried sear, Hargow which was ok , and beef w chinese sausage sticky fried rice which was cold and hard and the worst part was there was a strand of hair in it which totally ruined my appetite. To top it off, one of the soy sauce packets given to me (one of 2) was already opened and consumed. I felt sick and queasy and threw everything I ordered in the trash . I've been selfish in the past. I didn't want to share these diamond in the rough type places because they were cheap and good. My fear was that if I shared them, yelpers and the like would descend on these places, drive up prices and wait times, etc. Unfortunately, I have had at least 2 of those gems close because they clearly weren't getting enough business. I don't want to make that mistake again. I rarely rate based on service as I may complain about service, but ultimately it's the food that is most important to me when I decide on a restaurant. I'll get it out of the way, I don't think they speak great english but I've never had an issue ordering. It would be nice if they updated their signage, claned up the display cases, etc. but my guess is they've been struggling for business for years and just never got around to it. It's a shame because their food is pretty good. I like that they also serve BBQ dishes such as crispy pork, crispy duck, chicken etc. I do think there are better places for that but they serve combos which are pretty reasonable pricewise. However, I rarely order these combos as I consider this a takeout only place (they do have tables to eat if so inclined), and I have plenty of rice at home so I just order the meat by the lb. The other reason I keep going back to this place is that they have quite a few dim sum dishes that I enjoy such as the pork spareribs with black beans (classic), siu mai (not my fav but I don't eat shrimp), bamboo wrapped sticky rice (delicious), baked bbq pork buns (surprisingly good), egg tarts, and probably a few other things I'm forgetting. The prices are very good compared to other places and it's my main go to these days for dim sum. Will update my review with photos the next time I go. read more

I have had my share of Dim sum(mostly Cantonese) to say that I've had better. I was in the area and randomly it appeared on my search. For sure the food is cheap but not my favorite due to quality and the way it is stored. The establishment is very old, food in trays covered with plastic foods wrap and the glass through which you see the food is shabby lol. Perhaps it is good for other food from their menu(I saw many pho options and other noodle soups) but definitely I wouldn't be eating dim sum here. read more

I found this place from a list of Dim Sum places listed in the OC. It was listed as the place to go for ham sui gok. Considering it's my favorite dim sum item, I had it bookmarked but I had my qualms about it being a take out only and language barrier issues. So it's located inside the Shun Fat Supermarket. I honestly have never seen this market, I've only noticed the Target and the Lee's Sandwiches that was on the corner of Brookhurst and Westminster. I recognized it only by the sign from the pictures from yelp. I actually thought it was closed. There was no one there, but I courageously walked over to the counter and found that it wrapped around and a lady greeted me as I continued to look at what was available. It almost looks like there's no food because they are in all the steamers but everything was labeled in English and I had no trouble ordering the following: Har Gow Siu Mai Stewed Chicken Feet Ham Sui Gok Sesame Balls Shrimp/Beef Rice Noodle Egg Tarts Quick and easy. The food has definitely been sitting out and it's not super fresh. The lady was kind and she understand all of my pointing and talking through my mask. It was still kind of warm when I got home and I didn't need to heat up anything. The ham sui gok are definitely pretty big and were crispy and tasty. I'm not sure what's inside the sesame balls but they were good too. Less fresh was the sui mai, I didn't try the har gow or chicken feet. I'd say skip the rice noodle completely if they have been sitting out. I was surprised with the egg tart. It was buttery and flaky and the filling was tasty. MSG overload! I've sitting here feeling sluggish now because I just had their food. Out of all of OCs dim sum places, this is probably the worst. I came in on a Sunday at 11am to get some food for everyone at home. There were only a few people there. I basically got EVERYTHING. Everything was very bland with not enough flavor. The shu mai, and har gow were both super bland. The steam pork buns and chicken feet were okay. The pork share ribs and tripe were gross. The stuffed bean curds were also pretty disgusting. But the worst is feeling like crap for the many hours after because of all that MSG. My total was $24. All of the items are super super cheap though. They range from $2-$4. The lady working was impatient with me because an older man walked up and wanted to order. I was fast though. I always know what I want. It was annoying because he only ordered one item while I got 8927348. She also let many people pay before me although she was done packing my food awhile ago. It's located in the grocery store. I absolutely hate giving bad reviews but on Friday August 25th, 2017 was my grandmother's 100 day after her passing ceremony. My family decided to order 12 chicken from this place to feed to guests attending the ceremony. The total came up to almost $300 but it was worth it since it's saving us time to cook for the event. They chopped up all the chicken and boxed them nice and neatly for us to take home. My mom tried to open the box to check it and the lady was like no no no! Smiled and said just leave it. We made sure it's all correct and it's a total of 12 chicken so there no need to inspect it. Ok, yeah she's right. It's too neat to just open up the bag to check the box. We grabbed the boxes and drove it all the way to San Bernardino, opened one of the box and seen that it was spoiled! Ok maybe just one is bad so we opened a second one. It was spoiled as well... all 12 boxes was spoiled! This ruined my grandmother 100 day death ceremony. It's such a big disappointment. We are extremely upset that it had to happen to our family. We have the receipts but we of course threw all the chicken away because we didn't want anyone getting sick. I guess we live and learn our lessons. This location used to be my alternative option when I didn't want to deal with long waits at the popular dim sum restaurants. However, it seems like quality went down over the past two visits. It is located inside the supermarket and is cheaper than dim sum restaurants. About $1.75 - $3.50 for one order. Quality is best earlier in the day and it doesn't seem like they make fresh batches of dim sum throughout the day, therefore if you purchase after 2:00pm, most dim sum is dry out. I was able to order the following for only $18: 2 orders of xui mai (pork dumplings) 2 orders of ha cao (shrimp dumplings) 2 orders of banh cuong tom (shrimp in rice cake) 1 order of sweet bread with egg custard 1 order of fried shrimp balls I recommend going for the pastries such as egg tart, egg bread, etc. Skip dim sum since the quality isn't up to par anymore. read more

This place has always been the go-to dim sum place for my family when we're not in the mood for a full sit-down restaurant. Usually the prices are cheaper and you can get just as good of a meal depending on when you come. The location is within a supermarket, so I like to come here when my mom goes shopping for food because I'm not that interested in shopping... I'd rather be eating. Since this place is to go, there is definitely a prime time and which you should go and time where you should probably go somewhere else. From my experience, usually coming in at 10:30 a.m. Is a good to time to go. The serving sizes are the same as if you were going to another dim sum restaurant, but the price is much cheaper since it's just food to go. I usually get the xiu mai, the baked pork buns, the rice paper with pork and beef, and the fried shrimp and dumplings. All of this stuff is great when they come out fresh, and I highly recommend you getting it at that time. However, I do not want to play this up for anyone because there is only a very small window of opportunity in which you could get such good quality. If you come in at a different time, then you're going to to take the gamble on the quality of your food. Also, there are tables there, but I would recommend you just taking the food to go. This is because they usually do not clean the tables, so it is pretty messy and you can see a lot of plates piled up in the trash can. Alright, I get it. It's not the most aesthetic of places, or maybe the idea of take-out dim sum just isn't your thing, but tucked away in this little corner of the shopping center is sum real affordable, yummy, and quick snacks, or maybe a whole meal if you want. While the options might be a bit salty at times or taste, for the lack of a better term, cheap, I would highly encourage you to try the options you would normally get. The sil myl (shumai/siu mai - pork dumplings with shrimp) is pretty good, but my favorite is the ham sui gok (a fried glutinous rice dumpling filled with minced pork). The fresh ham sui gok can be best described as a shatteringly crispy, but chewy, shell with a succulent, porky, flavor explosion waiting inside - incomparable. Sure, it's not the best dim sum I've had, but I love the convenience of being able to pick up excellent dim sum to eat on the way home from the supermarket. Something awful has happened to this place. It used to be my favorite stop to get pork siu mai a few years back; I think the prices were as low as $1.60 for 4 pieces. They tasted pretty good, too! The place has switched hands between new owners a lot, so much so that I don't really keep track. I came here today after about two years. The pieces were still very large, though the price was raised to $1.99 for four, BUT the quality is terrible. I asked for two portions, hoping to store one in my fridge to eat at a later time. The woman told me to meet me at the counter to pay as she crammed eight pieces into a box. It wasn't a big deal, I thought, until I drove home (less than 10 minutes away) and opened up the box. The bottom of the box was COVERED in oil. There must have been at least 3 tablespoons worth just sitting there/what seemed to be 4mm high. I tilted the box and let the oil seep out into the plastic bag, then disposed of the bag. You could see the oil flowing into the bag without stopping--yes, there was that much. Problem solved? No. I decided to eat a few since I already made the mistake of purchasing them. The wrappings were moist, drenched in oil, to the point of being soggy. The filling, once nicely textured, tasted like overly ground meat with the consistency only slightly better than SPAM or canned Vienna sausages. The only thing redeemable about the siu mai were the large bits of shiitake mushrooms. That's where the second star came from. Would not recommend. read more

Didn't know that to-go Dim Sum existed until a friend recommended this place! The food is okay, but for the price, i'd definitely come back. Straight put me in a food coma afterwards though. It's cash only and located inside a supermarket. Not too difficult to find. My friend and I ordered it to go and ate it in the car while supercharging it. So convenient! and not messy at all. There wasn't any line when we went either. Which saved my friend from my hangry state of mind. If you're not all too particularly picky with your dim sum, i'd recommend giving this place a chance. I was craving dim sum on a Saturday morning, and I didn't want to make a trip to Seafood Cove #2. This place had $1.79 siu mai, which I honestly only wanted, so I made my journey here. It's located in the same plaza as the Target on Brookhurst in Little Saigon. It is inside the Vietnamese supermarket, so if Google maps tries to lead you to the plaza across, don't listen. I rushed in and saw the siu mai I wanted and placed my order with the Vietnamese ladies. I thought the service was great, but I'm not there for service anyways. I got overzealous and asked for 4 orders of the siu mai (16 pieces). I brought it home and feasted. I can't say I have high standards for dim sum, but for ~$7, I hella enjoyed it. It wasn't oily or salty. It might've not tasted as great as high end dim sum restaurants, but I never expected that. Definitely come here if you want quick, easy, and affordable dim sum. Unfortunately, I didn't try anything else, but if it was anything like the siu mai, I'd give the food 8/10. The dim sum looked a little lonely waiting for a long line which didn't appear while I was there. I did see some soup bowls being eaten in the seating area so they have that. They also have the hanging duck, chicken, and roast pork for sale. I'm guessing they get busier on the weekends. The other 3 eateries accessible from inside the market or outside were also cash only. You can't really compare take-out dim sum to the restaurant version. The dishes here are steamed or fried in bulk and sits there until they are sold. I wouldn't consider it made to order. It's fast food so everything is readily available for purchase. Tasty BBQ and Dim Sum is located in the Shun Fat Supermarket right in the front. They also carry BBQ meats: Roasted pig and Peking duck. I come here once in a blue moon for my dim sum fix when I'm not able to visit SGV. We had pork xiu mai, steamed bbq pork buns, and ham si gok. To-go dim sum place inside of the Thuan Phat Supermarket next to Target. Come early if you want the warm, fresh stuff. They also seem to have a bigger variety of different items when you come early. Whenever my family goes grocery shopping here, we usually stop by to get some stuff. We usually get the "Football" Dumplings which is like a fried dough with minced meat inside. I don't know the real name of it, but it's shaped like a football! One order comes with 3 for less than $2. We also get the Baked BBQ Pork Bun which also comes with 3 per order for less than $2. Outside is soft and sweet and the inside also has meat in it. Definitely worth trying if you haven't yet. Service is okay here. Once you get one of the ladies attention, just point at what you want. Then they will pack it up for you and bring it over to the cashier for you to pay. read more

For the price and quality? Top notch! It's where a Vietnamese supermarket is, and I usually pick up some dim sum when I get groceries. My husband is Brazilian and he doesn't even know dim sum, but he goes nuts over the 咸水角 (um, ham shui kok? Xian shui jiao?) Anyway it is like crunchy savory mochi ball stuffed with ground pork, mushrooms and stuff. It's so good he can eat like 5 in a row and my toddler loves it too. I also get the radish squares, go home and pan fry them with egg. Egg tarts of course. All for the fraction of the price at a dim sum restaurant. It's fun and you can order so much to take home! The ladies who work there are so warm and funny and we laugh a lot even though I dont speak Vietnamese. Lots of dim sum choices at low prices to make up for the lack of luxurious ambience. I've been coming to this place for years and I've had my fair share of experiences with this place as well as things to remember when eating here. 1. never eat food from this place after 3pm. the food WILL give you a stomach ache because its most likely not fresh anymore. this is the best advice i can give you. overally it's mediocre dim sum. The xiu mai is pretty good as well as the har grow. I always get xiu mai, har grow, banh cuon tom, banh cuon xao (as long as it's fresh) and chicken feet. The banh cuon paper is thicker than other places which fills you up faster. it's not as light and fluffy. Eat the ha grow asap as it tends to dry out if left in the box too long. What tends to bring me here if I have a dim sum craving and the lines are too long at SC2 & Kim Su. It's not the worst dim sum in the world but it's not something you should eat every day read more

Like at the other 1 star reviews, I too bought the Groupon. First of all, if they are going to offer a Groupon, they should have at least a fluent English speaker working (my mandarin is horrible). In a regular restaurant, some dim sum dishes include a sauce. For instance the fried shrimp wontons and shrimp lollipops often come with a sweet and sour or sweet mayo sauce, not here. All I got was attitude. I asked for hot sauce and the server again gave me attitude. The milk tea boba was horrible, it taste burnt and the bobas were hard! They serve the dim sum in styro boxes, very unenvironmentally friendly. I asked them why we couldn't just use the tins and returned them when we were done. IF THE OWNER IS READING THIS.... I wouldn't mind paying a deposit for each tin and getting a refund after we returned them! I wanted to help save the environment, and help save them money, so I asked them to pull the styrofoam boxes apart and use the top and bottom of the lid. Again I was given attitude. Used a Groupon here. Little to the buyer's knowledge, Tasty BBQ & Dim Sum is smack dab in the middle of a Chinese/Vietnamese Grocery Store! There are no outside markings/signage for those of us Asian-character-illiterate. :-( Also, buyer beware--though they are open till 8pm (and grocery store open till 8:45/9pm) they stop making all food and send their cooks home by 6pm! A skeleton crew of waiters/servers and a butcher are left over for the last 2 hrs. This means you need to arrive by 5:45pm to make sure they have the freshest/last batches of dim sum prepared. (Noodle dishes--Chow Mein, Chow Fun, & Hong Kong-style noodles are last made at 5:30pm or so...and the Hong Kong noodles run out quickly! I arrived by 7pm, and they were all gone!!!). :-( The Chow Mein and Chow Fun were OK, but chafing-dish dried out and more than dente! Veggies in the noodles were aged (since they had sat for at least 1 to 1-1/2 hrs since being prepared!). I tried their new Taro/Chicken friend dumplings - Light, slightly oily, but had a seasoned mix of chicken at the bottom. The taro was a little carby. (Menu B--3 for $1.68.) They also had taro chicken rice-wrapper dumplings--better, but larger and unwieldy. They had sat for a bit, so they stuck to each other. With a dipping sauce or soy, they would have been fantastic, but sauces are not given generously. (Menu B--3 for $1.68.) I also tried shrimp rice-paper-wrapped dumplings (whole mini shrimp)...which were delicious and well-prepared. They weren't the freshest, so I imagine arriving right when they're prepared would have been heaven! (Menu B--3 for $1.68.) Then there was the delectably umami/amazing surprise - chicken wonton wrapper soup! For $2.99 (special) you get a LARGE bowl of the freshest, most recently roasted/chopped white meat chicken floating in a fragrant, earthy, home-style chicken broth. Wonton wrappers are cut up and added as "noodles". Green onions and some cilantro float happily in the chicken bath. It's a large enough bowl to put regular Pho to shame! As some previous reviewers claimed, there is an overabundance of wasted styrofoam containers, which are unnecessary and environmentally unfriendly. Larger, partitioned containers, paper/aluminum products, or even china/plastic reusable plates for dining in would make more sense. Other dipping sauces and chile options should have been available. The dining area could have been much cleaner. And the passing grocery store shoppers ogling your food while I ate were sometimes disconcerting and uncomfortable. The Boba Thai Iced Tea was prepackaged (foil-covered) and refrigerated. For "fast food" Bob Thai Iced Tea, it wasn't bad. For a better drink, go to an actual Thai restaurant, store, market place! The regular "Chinese Herbal Tea" was similarly prepackaged with a foil covering, and served cold, non-sweetened. The restaurant didn't have sweeteners readily available on the tables. It was slightly bitter, average, and nothing to write home about. ("Ice water" wasn't available for free, but you could certainly purchase a refrigerated bottled water for $2.00!) :-/ Personally, I liked the glass display case on the counter, showcasing the roasted ducks, split chickens, sweet/sour ribs, and other hanging/cooked meats! They had that China Town deli flair - perfect carmelization, mouth-watering crispy duck skin, and whole-animal readiness that you wouldn't normally find in a mainstream American grocery store. 3 stars instead of 4: - Clean up (tables, counters, kitchen area, display cases), - Provide better service and food quality for the entire duration you are open, - Be more clear with food labels IN FRONT of the actual dim sum choices (in English, with ingredient descriptions!), - Offer more drink options in your Groupon offering (& be more flexible!), - Have all menu items available for the times you are open--don't ask customers to arrive at least 2 hrs before you close so that it's easier for YOU! I will definitely return for Chicken Wonton Soup. I don't know of I'll do some of the dim sum again. The chicken entrees looked good too. read more

I LOVE THEIR BBQ & DIM SUM.... Their food is on point and always flavorful. They have your typical dim sum treats. One thing I liked a lot was things that you would typically have to order from the kitchen and wait forever for were just placed behind the window, looks very delicious and fresh!!! Just ask for it, and you can start to taste it right away, no need to wait...! The service was great too! Next time I'm in town I'll be getting my dim sum on here! read more

Went here on the Groupon with some friends. First off, THE LOCATION ON YELP IS WRONG!! This place is in fact inside the Chinese/Vietnamese Market next to Target. Once we called and figured out we were in the wrong shopping center, we headed over. For $24+tax for four people, the food was alright. The Steamed Buns were a little on the sweet side for me, but otherwise good for the price. Also, be prepared to use Soy Sauce, Red Pepper, and Red Vineger, provided at the table but they seem to only be filled at the beginning of the day, as the flavors are, let's say muted. Still, for the price, not bad Dim Sum. Probably my biggest irk about the place was how everything was served. Instead of the Steam Tins you'd expect at Dim Sum, everything came in Styrofoam containers, even though we were eating there. May or may not go back again, depends really. read more
