I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I've gone here multiple times and though there are indeed a vast amount of not good, but great, dim sum places all throughout the SGV area sometimes you don't want to do the haggle, the noise, the fighting, and the strained distant perusing of dim sum carts to get your next order of shumai. Sometimes you just want to have it all at once. That's what Tasty Box lets you do. When you enter you have a set menu already largely displayed in both Chinese and English with images to help you literally picture what you want. They have favorites like shumai, shrimp dumplings, egg tarts, chicken feet, spare ribs, etc. They will also have some specialty items per month depending on when you go. When I went last week it was salted egg custard buns. They were rich and delicious. Just as I enjoy an efficient and quick experience let me break down the good, the bad, and the pro-tip parts of this place for your viewing pleasure. The Good - Quick service and order directly off a menu you can visually see - Prices are competitive and same prices you would find in normal dim sum places - Food is good with a few stand outs such as the egg custard and sesame balls The Bad - Milk tea isn't great - Gets very busy in the heart of the afternoon - Seating is limited - You might mistake this for their BBQ location which is across the plaza Pro-tips - Get there before 11 AM to avoid lines or after 1 PM - If you bring cash you will avoid paying a small % fee for card - Don't get their drinks. There's a plethora of drink places in the same plaza from Starbucks to a Korean market across the way. The Char Siu tasted fresh, and there wasn't too much sauce. The rice was cooked well, and the veggies were just the right portions. For $10 this is definitely a steal for lunch. Tasty Box is a Hong Kong BBQ restaurant. They serve BBQ pork, soy sauce chicken, roast duck, braised beef, wonton noodles, fried rice, and fried wontons. You can choose to order meats by itself or combined with either rice or soup noodle. I ordered the Roast Duck over Soup Noodle. Great portion of the duck pieces. The duck pieces were chopped up nicely. Some of the duck pieces had thin crispy skin while others had soft fatty skin. The duck meat itself was very tender with great flavor. Some duck pieces had more bones than meat. The plum sauce complemented the duck pieces quite well. The soup noodle was thin, soft, chewy, and bouncy. The broth had good flavor and was not overly salty. I liked their container to-go as their bowl was separated into two compartments. The noodles were underneath the duck in the top container. The soup was underneath the top compartment. That way the noodles won't have absorbed the entirety of the broth while driving. Service was pretty good. I ordered and they handed out my order within 10 minutes. Dine-in is not available inside the restaurant at the moment. They have a giant plexi-glass barrier at the entrance of the restaurant for you to place the order. Love the Roast Duck here. I'll get it over rice next time to see how it is. I'm writing a review today to make sure I mark the day I had this experience. Don't know what has happened since 2 years ago, but this time around this was not a pleasant experience. I came over after going to H Mart. First off the Middle Aged man that took my order seemed to have no patience asking me "is that all" annoyed after I ordered two dishes. I even tried to make sure he got my order right. I ordered 1 soy sauce chicken w rice and a cha sui with rice. I ended up w one order right, and a half a soy sauce chicken. I am usually ok with the Cantonese chicken, but it seemed like this time around it was undercooked more then before. Imagine if you didn't have access to a microwave, you would not want to eat this raw. Then one of the annoying things as I picked up my order, was to ask for hot sauce they had( which was pretty good from what I remembered) the guy that took my order on the phone, that charged me, told me in person that it was inside the bag, and I as I tried to check inside the bag, the guy annoyed, and was telling me it's inside. I placed two separate orders: one for roasted duck noodle soup and another for beef brisket rice. However, there were some problems during the process, as described below: My first order was supposed to be roasted duck noodle soup, but the staff mistakenly placed an order for beef brisket noodle soup. She asked if I would like to add chicken to balance the price difference, so I agreed. When I got home, I realized that I did not receive the beef brisket rice I had ordered. I called the restaurant to clarify, and the woman I spoke with said she remembered me and claimed that I had left without taking the beef brisket rice. Since I live far from the restaurant, I asked if I could get a refund for the missing rice. However, the staff member's attitude was very rude, which left me quite dissatisfied. I understand that mistakes happen, and I can accept that a refund might not be the most convenient solution. The quality of the rice has gone down tremendously and customer Service is non existence now. We eat at Asian places weekly, especially in Garden Grove and Westminster- home of the true authentic Asian experience, *"hurry up and eat" mom and pop places. Feels like you are in the homeland. We spent New Year's day out and about so we were craving a savory meal afterward. We decided to make a pit stop for take-out since we were passing through. When we arrived, it was not that busy seeing that it was a holiday. The bbq shop is located in a big shopping plaza right next door to Mochinut. There is no dine-in option but there are several tables in the front if you want to enjoy your food right away. They have a variety of items from rice boxes, noodles, desserts, and meats. The first time I tried their roasted duck was at a family dinner and it was so juicy and delicious. We had the dinner combo with three items and soup is included. This is a great option for those busy weeknights. On our second visit, we ordered the char siu over rice and the Yang Chow fried rice. The char siu is succulent and so good. Unlike other places that make it so dry. Yang Chow fried rice is a classic dish that never disappoints. I also recommend the roasted pork belly - so delicious! I have been here a couple of times throughout the last few years. Overall, the food is good but the chasiu could be on the skinner side if you like fattier chasiu. But they give a lot of it for such reasonable price! A very good portion knowing how everything is super expensive nowadays. Your guy told me it did take 20 to 25 minutes to get ready so I pick that up around 12:20. This place can get confusing. There are actually two locations in the same parking lot. One by Starbucks and the other on the opposite end towards the food court area. Both locations have good service and the owners are very nice. The one by Starbucks recently had a renovation with menu upgrades. They no longer just sell dim sum, but also other Chinese food items, such as fried rice, chow mien, and seafood tofu stir fried. The other location sell the BBQ stuff such as roast pork, roast duck, wonton noodles, and char sui. First time here. I found this place from Yelp and it has a quite good review. So I tried here. I got Char siu over rice with extra chicken. Char siu was better than I expected. It was tender and flavorful. But chicken was quite disappointed. Compared to pork, it was dry and mostly breast meat. Personally, I do not like chicken breast. And the worst part was the cabbage salad. It does not mix with any meat or rice. They gave me scallion oil here and I poured it over rice. Did I drive all the way to Diamond Bar just to get roast duck? Yes, absolutely! And I will do it again. And again! They have arguably one of the best roast ducks I've had outside of Hong Kong and are on par with some of the best in Vancouver or Toronto. The to-go package comes with a small container of juice that you pour over the duck just before you serve it - like it's done in many places in Hong Kong. The BBQ pork is very good as well. I like the fact that they use high quality meat. To make it even better, it's a leaner cut and is not as fatty as most other places and that's the way I like it. Although it's a bit pricier than most places, it is certainly worth it. Another one of their specialties is wonton noodle soup. Came here to satisfy my Cantonese BBQ cravings (Sam Woo in Irvine just doesn't cut it) and it did not disappoint. Between my friend and I, we shared a soy sauce chicken rice plate, a roasted duck rice plate, and an order of the crispy pork belly (siu yuk). Everything was so darn good and fresh. The meats were tender and flavorful and I think I only used the dipping sauce for the siu yuk. Aside from all of that, the best part of Tasty Box was probably being able to buy marinated duck wings, duck feet, and duck tongue to go.
