The food is absolutely phenomenal. I have been meaning to go here because of all the hype on social media about their San Gabriel location so I was excited to realize there was one nearby. Their HK style food is authentic and delicious. We started with the hot and sour soup and it is literally the best version we have ever had. It had a bit of the Szechuan numbing spice and was a huge portion so we took half home. We also ordered their steamed rice rolls with shrimp and chive and you can tell it was made fresh by the wrinkles in the rice paper. The last item we ordered was their chinese sausage clay pot. It was exactly what we were craving. Crispy rice all along the edges with perfectly steamed rice, chinese broccoli and crispy chinese sausage. It was hard to choose because their menu was huge and we came late so we missed the pineapple buns but definitely need to try it next time. I also saw everyone ordering the lemon iced tea and realized it's because they do free refills! That's another need to try. I felt the value was really great and we definitely are coming back. Service was also great. The waiters quickly came over when you waved them down and they checked on you just the right amount of time. The decor inside is very cute and I love the retro style. It took about ten minutes for us to get a booth table, but we were waiting inside. The staff member called numbers firstly in Cantonese then in English. After we sat down, the waiting line persisted past 1 pm. Similarly, the bustling loudness continued on during the course of our meal. Food arrived quickly, however. The price point for the delicious food is competitive. We got French-style filet mignon ($18.99), braised tofu in brown sauce ($14.99), chicken chow mein ($14.99), and a steamed rice noodle roll with barbecue pork ($5.99). A pot of rice was included in our meal. The steamed rice noodle roll with barbecue pork was a nice appetizer that arrived first. I enjoyed how the French-style filet mignon was garnished with Thai basil, black pepper, and ginger. The meat was flavorful and tender. The braised tofu in brown sauce was consistently hot on the inside. The delicious brown sauce soaked throughout the vegetables. The chicken chow mein didn't have a lot of sauce, but it was still delicious with a lot of meat included. Overall, it would be nice to visit again outside of a peak time because the food prices are competitive. The menu is expansive, and the breakfast selections look interesting. The atmosphere during the Sunday lunch peak time was consistently bustling. We came here for lunch at around 12pm on a Sunday and waited 30 minutes. We got pineapple buns, salted egg french toast, scrambled egg with shrimp on braised rice, shrimp rice roll, and beef chow fun. My favorite was the shrimp rice rolls! The texture was much more chewy and gelatinous compared to the rice rolls I've had at chinese dim sum. I also really loved the scrambled egg with shrimp on braised rice. Simple flavors but very addicting. The salted egg yolk french toast was delicious but very decadent. I could only eat one slice of it. They also give you syrup on the side to add on top but the toast itself was already more than sweet enough for me. The beef chow fun was just okay. I've had better at other restaurants. I probably wouldn't get that again And of course we couldn't come to a HK cafe without getting a HK milk tea. Remember to ask for the condensed milk on the side because it comes unsweetened! I love this place! Weekends can be packed at peak times but the authentic HK food is worth it. I've come here twice, and both times were delicious! One thing I love most about this spot is that the influencers haven't gotten to it yet, so try it before the hype reaches social media! While I haven't tried everything, based on the quality of what I HAVE had, I assume that you really can't go wrong with any of the options. Start with the Hong Kong milk tea. Unlike a lot of other places that I've tried, they serve it unsweetened. You can add condensed milk to your preference. I always get the RICE NOODLE ROLL (cheung fun) with shrimp. Being from midcity LA, I find it hard to get good cheung fun that is comparable to the street stands in NYC. This is the closest that I've found to NYC quality! Love the stretch. Anyway onto my food. Free coffee, but served in a really tiny cup. I had to flag down a waitress for a refill, but she gave me milk tea + coffee. Just a warning the milk tea+coffee is very bitter. I don't know how, but it's even more bitter than just straight up coffee! I didn't want to bother her since it was so busy so I just added a bunch of condensed milk. My combo D came with luncheon macaroni. Definitely nothing to write home about. The macaroni was very overcooked and mushy. The soup is okay, just a chicken soup. I'd ask if they can sub macaroni with vermicelli or something next time. I still had rice roll and a salted beef with egg sandwich that I took home and ate later. The rice roll was good! Tam's Noodle House is very authentic for Cantonese classics! I came here for breakfast and the menu is a great value. Breakfast hours are before 11:30 M-F and there's a good variety. I got the Thousand Egg Porridge + Beef Steam Roll and both tasted great. I liked how the rice noodles were really soft and not thick like at some places and it kind of melts in your mouth. I usually go to the one in San Gabriel. In my opinion, they have one of the best Cantonese breakfast selections and very authentic as well. I usually get their fried tofu because they are just bomb. I always get chicken steak at Hong Kong restaurants but I totally forgot that this place doesn't have sauce on their chicken steak or any protein dish that they have but nothing can beat their noodle. Their Lo Mien is just addicting. You can customize your own noodle or order their pre-selected. Parking is plenty in the plaza and the plaza is huge. They are so busy but staff are nice. This is THE spot for amazing, affordable, Hong Kong breakfast. Their breakfast set is incredibly affordable, fresh, delicious, and comes with so much! I felt like I was back in Asia with their bustling atmosphere and tent outside with ample seating. The service was excellent, efficient, and friendly. Considering how busy they were, the turnaround rate for tables was something to be admired. Combo A comes with a congee and a choice of two sides. I got the dry shrimp steamed roll, the house special steamed roll, the pineapple bun, a salted pork and century egg congee. The congee is the perfect consistency, soupy, with grains of rice, the flavor of the congee mild, very generous with the toppings. The dry shrimp roll is just like the one at dimsum, but very fresh, hand pulled in a light soy sauce. The house special comes with no meat but is in a unique sesame/peanut butter sauce. The pineapple bun is delicious, it came out warm and was crumbly with each bite, with a cool slab of butter in between to give a sweet treat at the end. We also got a shrimp steamed roll, which was similar to the dry shrimp but came with more ginger and decently sized prawns. There was an off menu soup my dad ordered, a white pepper chicken and pork offal soup (incredibly tasty, light but bold with flavor and packed with ginger for your health) HIGHLY recommend this one! I came here to pick up a couple dishes for my eldest daughter. I walked in to a full house of customers. It has the feel of being in a Hong Kong restaurant. I think the decor gives it that impression. Anyway, I was greeted right away by a nice gentleman who eventually took my order. I have dined here and did take-out once before but didn't do a review until now. I got our favorites... honey glazed pork chop and string beans + eggplant with XO sauce. The ambience is like that of a Hong Kong style cafe and much cleaner, I would say almost comparable to what you get in Hong Kong especially hearing all the Cantonese. I came here a few times now and this spot is a gem and definitely one of those go to spots when you're feeling hungry because the service is fast and the food is great. So far, I've tried a pretty good variety, including noodle dishes, clay pot dishes, their French toast, baked Bolognese and their rice rolls.
