Cocktail and Happy Hour menu at Kacha Thai Bistro in downtown Walnut Creek.
    Jason F.

Authentic Thai cuisine in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek. Kacha Thai Bistro has been a downtown Walnut Creek staple since the opening of the multi-level Olympia Place shopping center well over a decade and a half ago. With their front entrance along Mount Diablo Boulevard but plenty of complimentary parking for over four hours within the multi-layered Olympia Place Shopping Center with the elevator entrance mere conveniently steps away from their entrance, it is no wonder that while practically all of their neighbors have come and gone and new ones have sprouted around them, that Kacha Thai Bistro has not only survived but thrived here in Walnut Creek. And why shouldn't they thrive? With hearty dishes that represent some of the best cuisine found throughout the country of Thailand, Kacha Thai Bistro features a wide variety of dishes that combine traditional Thai cuisine with contemporary Western sensibilities. When we arrived for dinner on a weeknight at Kacha Thai Bistro it was busy enough despite the fact that Happy Hour had just ended for the evening. The menu at Kacha Thai Bistro is separated into categories including Chef's Special, Starter, Soup, Salad, Sides, Noodles and Rice, Curries, Main, Seafood, Desserts and Beverages. Our party of three people weren't super hungry but we were intrigued by the multiple offerings that Kacha Thai Bistro has to offer that we asked our server what their most popular dishes are. He suggested their Ginger Eggplant which was their sauteed eggplant entrée served with shrimp and chicken in basil ginger garlic sauce. We also ordered their Pineapple Fried Rice which came with our option of pork and served in a hollowed out pineapple rind. For our third entrée, they had several pictures on their menu of their many Chef's Special items, and their Oriental BBQ Baby Back Ribs which were served with a variety of steamed vegetables looked so good that we had to order it. It wouldn't take too long for our first dish, their Ginger Eggplant to be delivered first, followed by our Pineapple Fried Rice, with the Ginger Eggplant being a real star of our meal with it sautéed eggplant served with more than enough chicken and shrimp that everyone got to enjoy just a little bit and then some, and for a entrée under 20 dollars, I consider this more than a reasonable price point. When served with its gravy that topped their Pineapple Fried Rice which was mixed with our order of pork and corn, carrots, scallions and eggs, it was the most refreshing dish. Finally our Baby Back Ribs came out as it was so much food, but so good as the meat fell off the bone that every bite was juicy and flavorful. If ribs are usually served like this in Thailand, book me on the next flight! Our total bill was $69.92 before gratuity was added in and for three main dishes of which we had plenty to take home with us, we were sold on another visit to Kacha Thai Bistro. With a Happy Hour with affordable appetizer options, and discounted cocktails that can be enjoyed in their main dining area, Kacha Thai Bistro has quietly become a Walnut Creek institution, plus their Thai Iced Tea is affordably priced too! With so much going for it, no wonder they are the one constant in a forever changing landscape.

This place is still amazing; after so many years of coming here you'd think we'd have had a disappointing experience at least once, but no. The service is always terrific, the food is as good as you'll find outside of Thailand, and would be considered good at least there. Has been one of our absolute faves since we found it years ago.

This place is one of the most consistently good Thai spots around. Their staff is always friendly and hospitable. Their Tom Kha is one of the very best (dark meat chicken - YUM), just with it would have more broth as I always have leftovers. LOL

This was my second visit and as an old habit I order the same dish in time I'm in a Thai restaurant. I had forgotten that I had this same dish on my last visit. The service is cordial, friendly and attentive. As expected, each Thai restaurant offers Khao Soi and their interpretation or taste can be different. The protein portion, chicken was very generous. I enjoyed the curry broth and would preferred more that to protein. lol simply for the atmosphere and service warrants return visits.

Great happy hour and the food is still delicious. Service is always friendly and the menu is quite robust. Very happy to see Kacha Thai Bistro has continued their tradition of serving phenomenal food in a cozy environment.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. Our group of five had the whole place to ourselves, which was nice and relaxing. The food took a normal amount of time, and we didn't mind waiting since we were having good conversation. I got the yellow curry with pork and mango sticky rice. The curry had simple flavor with no spice. I like my curry on the sweeter side, so I added some sweet sauce from the vegetable dish, which made it even better. The mango sticky rice was a good size for sharing between two people. The mango was sliced nicely and there was plenty of rice. The only thing was that the rice could have used more coconut milk, but it was still a great dessert overall. Some of their dishes have a higher than average plating presentation like the mango sticky rice when you dine-in.

Hot plate seafood, 32bucks, yummy but a bit pricey for what we got.

As a person who once lived in Singapore for 4 years, I love Thai cuisine. Thai dishes are flavorful and delicious. This restaurant made our family dinner an exciting experience last night. Everything was delicious and fantastic. Staffs were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is big and spacious, very clean. Will come back soon to try other dishes.

Solid 9/10 Thai food. I loved the flavors and overall balance of the food. 9/10 service checking in on us and refilling water was great! It wasn't busy so they definitely came a good amount of times to check in but it was welcomed. The location and interior is amazing! I have ate here a couple times already so it deserves a recommendation review

Just learned today Kacha is permanently closed. So sad.... one of our favorite restaurants, always excellent food and service.

only shows the recipet after they first changed the 25$ back to the 22$ price. later, they also took away the 18$ 'large party fee'

on 12/29/25, i was overcharged 27$ total and this was not the first time. i urge future customers to carefully go over their receipt. my party of three ordered the 22$ lunch combo. when we got our check, each lunch combo was priced at 25$. we decided to ask about this and i honestly thought that they would explain that we had ordered something with an extra cost, however the server came back and told us the manager adjusted the price back to 22$. he didn't explain why we were charged extra. this is not all. one guest in my party caught that they charged us a 'large party fee' of 18$. on the menu it specified that a large party fee is for 6+. without tax, this brought the original check from 108$ to 99$ to 81$. overall, we almost paid 27$ in extra, and weren't given a clear explanation of why. i wish i could see this as a mistake, but on 6/4/25 i remember the same 22-25$ incident happening, but didn't speak up about it (i also always order the same exact dishes, so there is no way i had ordered an extra charge). i also noticed that this time, the portions were much smaller and fitted on the plate flat and wide to appear fuller. i personally think the food is still great, i just don't feel that it's that same bang for your buck anymore. the photo attached only shows the receipt after they first changed the 25$ back to the 22$ price. later, they also took away the 18$ 'large party fee'.

Got the Ped Yang -- duck with jasmine rice and salad. It was okay for $20, but the duck skin was overcooked and burnt so half the duck was inedible. Rice was good but didn't have the typical aromatic taste. Great place with lots of parking around though otherwise. The inside is classy but laidback.

Gcontainer full of lard thinking it was coconut soup because they always get mad at me when I ask if there's soup to go and it's always no

Is there a complimentary dessert when there's a birthday?

Does this place take reservations for a big party- 15-20 people?

Yup, and their always very accommodating. :)

    Is there a full bar?

    Yes

    Any vegan options?

Hello Jasmine! You can ask them to hold the fish sauce and order tofu as your protein source :) Pad Thai, Yellow Curry are my faves!

Is there fish sauce, ground shrimp, or oyster sauce in the vegetarian options? I know it's in many premade sauces and curries, so can't be made without it.

I recently called about this. They have been telling me that they are vegan if requested. Unfortunately, not true as the curry paste is premise and has fish products in it. But I think pad se ew has options.

Is pineapple fried rice always served in pineapple or only under request?

The pineapple fried rice is served in a pineapple, but other rice, such as white steamed or brown, is served in a bowl.

So what better place to dine in to celebrate out 2nd Year Wedding Anniversary at The Hideout Kitchen :) We went for dinner. Our server was KEVIN. Simply...HE IS JUST AWESOME. He knows the menu, he knows the history, and has amazing stories to share with everyone. Great guy. A lot of people there that night seemed to be celebrating something. The noise was a bit loud that I felt I had to almost yell to have a conversation with my husband. But the vibe was great. I enjoyed looking around at the decor. We ordered: - TRUFFLE FRIES for appetizers - I loved everything about it. haha. Tastey! - linguine & clams - I ordered this. It was good. However, I felt it was way oily. And after every bite I took, I had to wipe my mouth. And I accidentally spilled oil on my shirt. - PASTA ALLA CARBONE with steak - My husband enjoyed it and started to get full towards clearing out his bowl haha. - SCALLOPED POTATOES - I ordered a side of this. Definitely was not expecting to look the way it did, but I thought the presentation was beautiful. It was good; however, I was not a fan at how crunchy and hard the top first layer was. In a few areas, it was almost burnt. But I thought it was pretty good without the need for a type of sauce on the side. - For drinks, I had to Summer sangria and my husband had the Rumble in the Jungle. We enjoyed it. Definitely hit the spot. No complaints at all about these drinks. - And Kevin surprised us with a dessert to celebrate : Cranberry Bread Pudding. This was delicious. Very flavorful. I am not really into Cranberry, but this is definitely an exception. Loved the fruits on the side as well. The Hideout Kitchen will always have a place in our hearts. We will definitely come back. We still need to try this place out for Brunch. We need to try their UBE pancakes! hehehe. And thanks Kevin for being amazing that night!

I noticed a couple Filipino-inspired dishes on the brunch menu -- Pulled Pork Silog, & the one we tried, Ube Hotcakes. Fluffy & coated in a deep purple sauce, but they didn't posses the distinct taste of ube. My Breakfast Burrito was very well put together, & so hearty, I could only get through half. Every bite saw a dip into the tasty hot sauce. And like the five-year old that I am, I loved that tater tots were a side option. I wouldn't make the drive from my neck of the woods specifically for the Hideout Kitchen, but should I find myself in Lafayette again, I wouldn't say no to an invite here.
