Traditionally, I would visit Starbucks or a contemporary coffeehouse, only to receive what often felt like mocha syrup blended with steamed milk--pleasant, perhaps, but rarely memorable. This morning marked my first visit to Tatte Bakery & Café in Old Town Alexandria where the hot chocolate proved to be an unexpected delight. The associate explained that it was prepared with semisweet chocolate and warm milk. Intrigued, I ordered a small and chose to enjoy it outdoors. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The price was refreshingly reasonable, while the bakery's bright interior and refined ambiance created an inviting first impression.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My drink arrived within approximately five minutes, presented elegantly in a cup and saucer. The temperature was perfectly warm--comforting without being excessively hot--and the overall presentation was quietly sophisticated but has room for improvement. Then came the taste.... The texture was exceptionally silky and smooth, with no grainy residue, excessive sweetness, or bitter aftertaste. It was rich without being heavy and indulgent without becoming overwhelming. Even better, it left behind no awkward crown of foam. I have enjoyed hot chocolate in Sicily, where the experience was quite literally a cup of melted chocolate--decadent, dense, and almost dessert-like. Tatte's interpretation was more delicate and restrained, yet equally satisfying in its own way. Tatte has now earned first place in my personal ranking. There is, however, still an opportunity to elevate the service experience. A cloth napkin and small spoon presented alongside the drink would add a more polished touch, while a subtle soupçon of finely shaved chocolate would enhance both the visual presentation and the final sip. Overall, I award Tatte's hot chocolate an A-. I look forward to seeing whether it can achieve an even higher distinction upon my next visit. read more

We were in the area for the St. Patrick's Day parade and grabbed a sandwich and chai tea. I was incredibly impressed. Standard Tatte bakery and cafe. Ordered a quick hot matcha with vanilla sweetener to go since I was in a bit of a rush. The staff were very helpful in pushing out my drink quickly since I was in such a hurry. A good coffee shop that's local to Boston but has a bunch of locations in the dmv now. They have a good variety, pastries, and food options. The pastries and desserts are all pretty good with some better than others. The honey carrot cake is a bit dry and was a little overcooked, but I've had other pastries before that have been good. The pastries through the window caught my eye as we walked through Old Town Alexandria, and with the chilly weather, it was the perfect excuse for a hot drink. I had the pistachio latte with oat milk and vanilla syrup. I loved the pistachio crumbles in it, they went perfectly with the creamy latte, and it was delicious and warming. We tried the Pistachio Cherry Tart. I loved the pistachio flavor, but the tart was a bit dry. As soon as I saw the name and font, I knew exactly what this place would look like on the inside and how things would be served. Turns out I was exactly right. Fancy sandwiches with a lot of white decor and tile. It's not a bad thing, I just found it amusing. It was a brutally hot day and we were walking around Alexandria in need of a cool spot to have lunch. This place is a good size, the air conditioning was pumpin, and the menu is full of the kind of food that won't leave you feeling bloated and more hot. Your wallet will certainly weigh less, that's for sure. I had the BLAT, which is like if someone added turkey to avocado toast. The sandwich certainly looked nice, and the tastes were all fresh including what I'm guessing is bread baked on site. I also got a lavender lemonade to go with it, and that provided even more refreshment on this super hot day. No complaints on the taste, it was just all pretty expensive for what you get, but I suppose that's the norm around here. We came upon the cafe on our way back from Alexandria. We decided to check it out since there was a line although it was in the evening around 4:30pm. The line moved quite fast and I ordered and paid at the cashier and found seats near the bar area. - pear tart: delicious! The tart had crumbly sweet crust. The almond filling had perfect sweetness and the pear on top complimented it perfectly. - pistachio latte: just okay. The pistachio wasn't too pronounced but it had good hint of sweetness. However, I had to wait for a long time to get my drink and even after finishing my tart. I think that they missed my order and after asking for it, I got it right away. read more

I got the pistachio latte with almond milk and it was fantastic but definitely overpriced and i can't believe places are still getting away with charging nearly a dollar extra for almond milk. First time visiting a Tatte after having it on the to do list for so long! Stopped across the street for a pedicure and once told there was a short wait, it was the perfect opportunity! This location is located on the corner, but there's only one entrance, on King St. and people enter through the door on the left. There was a short line, but that gave us plenty of time to figure out what we wanted and look at the bakery items in the glass case. My partner opted for an orange juice ($6) and I, the house latte ($6). It was something new and I really enjoyed the honey and cardamom taste! This is literally some of the worst coffee I've ever had but it's weird because it's specific to this location. The coffee tastes watery and burnt at the same time and is not even drinkable. Really disappointing especially when you have to wait so long for it and pay $15 for two coffees. Food is good here but that's all. read more

So I went to Tatte's Bakery & Cafe recently to meet up with a colleague. I had heard about the cafe from a few friends and decided it would be a great time to check it out and grab breakfast. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the meal I had and here's why. First things first, I can say that the service was very good. You have to place your order at the check-out register, but no worries, the lady helped me promptly, even though they were moderately busy at the time. The staff was very friendly and once I ordered and sat down at the table, I received my food in less than 5 minutes. Now, to the food. My breakfast sandwich unfortunately was delivered to me cold and the eggs on the sandwich were a bit lifeless. It's almost as if the ingredients are not freshly made with every sandwich and they were sitting around for a bit. The flavor profile overall for the sandwich just did not jump out at me and lacked seasoning. After 2 bites I gave up and decided to call it quits on my breakfast. The bread was also a weird medium between being toasted and not toasted. Almost as if it was toasted for a a minute or so but not long enough for the bread to be crisp Overall, it was a disappointing experience for me. My colleague ordered a French vanilla latte that she said she liked, so I recommend if you do stop here maybe just go for coffee or lattes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance of the establishment was good. A few minutes from work sit one of the best bakeries in Town, as soon as you walk in your greeted by staff members. His location is huge, you can come and wok in a peaceful environment or come with a group of friends and enjoy the menu. There's so much to pick from, breakfast and lunch, soups, salads and much more. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was delicious, all white meat, great portion and made to perfection. For drink I have the kale apple it's so so delicious I highlight recommend it. If your on your lunch break or in town make sure to stop on in and you won't regret it. i've been to a handful of tatte's before. this was one of the better ones, but still not great. the service at the counter was bland. i did not get one smile or greeting while i approached them and proceeded with my order. i got one of their new tea coolers in the white peach & mint. i could not place my finger on what it tasted like.. it was just bad. food wise, i got a prosciutto & parmesan scrambled egg plate. bread could have been toasted a little less - it was so hard the crust was inedible. though, the man who brought it to me was very kind and attentive - even to the individuals around me. it was great to see! what a shame for how cute the interior is for all tatte locations. many were sitting doing work on their laptops and i could totally see myself doing the same. i'd just opt for one of their pastries and a bottled drink and enjoy the area! read more

Tatte is really expanding. I haven't been to historic Alexandria in a really long time. This store opened in January 2024 and it's quite massive. It was very, very busy pretty much all day because of the doggy Halloween trick-or-treat. It's a very crisp interior and two separate sections one for bakery and coffee. The restrooms are pretty clean, even though it was very busy and the staff were pretty friendly. I got a $.90 Nutella cookie and an espresso to go. The coffee took a little longer than usual because it was so busy and the pick up is at a different counter so you have to walk to the back of the store to pick it up. This Boston chain does deliver, and I'm honestly shocked that they have expanded so much recently because I thought they had kind of gone out a trend. This tatte does not have parking but there are street parking. They have plenty of seating and wifi. But it does get filled up. I would say the food takes up 10-15 mins to come out. The vibes are here like the other are very modern. I love using tatte as coffee date or catching up with a friend. I got the sparkling rhubarb matcha lemonade and lemon, thyme, espresso spritz. The lemonade was little sour sweet. Would I get it again probably not. But I did like the spritz you could taste the thyme in the spritz but it was subtle. I got the broccoli, lentil, couscous bowl.
