Terrible service and sub par food, can't even make a decent sandwich. Hummus taste off and shashuka was cold and bland.

It is celebrated the Thursday in the week before Ash Wednesday, whose tradition is unique since it dates back to at least the Middle Ages, and is the perfect excuse to eat the famous and delicious Polish pastry. Pączki, pronounced "poonch-key," are Polish deep-fried donuts that are filled with some sweet filling such as jam, custard, lemon curd, or chocolate. They are usually covered with powdered sugar, icing, glaze, or dried orange zest. Located on Jewell Street in Garfield, we've been coming here to Kohout Bakery for a couple of years. Greeted by the friendly staff, my partner and I were lucky to have the whole establishment to ourselves. Like a step back in time, this small bakery sells freshly made bread, danishes, cookies, strudel, and some deli meats. Patrons have raved about the perfect balance of flavors, particularly noting the distinction between glazed and powdered jelly varieties. We picked out a couple of their donuts, whose price was very reasonable and cash only. This bakery continues to celebrate the joy of baking and the flavors of generations past, which we can recommend.

My favorite -and I order ahead - is their Polish rice cake :) The cookies are gone before a day goes by! Oh, and try their macaroni salad. Yummy! This shoppe feels like 1969 and I mean that in the very best way! Go and enjoy a little of everything The staff will help you describing what you don't recognize. I could go on and on. Park wherever your car fits. It's on Kohout's Way and they don't ticket. Cash only. ATM across the street. Plan to smile when you get home :) Your car will smell delicious too!

For the purpose of the class they did not have their full menu available but they did offer all participants 2 full size beverages from their menu. I had the Mora Mojito (not infused) and hands down one of the best mocktails I have every had. I also tried the Lemonade Ginger Beer which too was very refreshing. My friend had the Coquito Iced Latte and raved about it being delicious. While we did not order food....appetizers were served. They gave us chicken pinchos...not much to talk about HOWEVER they served a guayaba puff pastry that was deliousous!!!! I would recommend everyone to take a class when they are offering one. While this place is a little out of my way just to stop by for coffee, I recommend you do and I will if in the area.

Everything from the vibe to the space was full of good energy. They asked if it was our first time there and immediately recommended their favorites. I got the coquitto latte (something you don't see anywhere else), it's unlike any latte I've had before. Warm and yummy on a cold day. Now onto the food, everything we got was delicious from the empanadas to the sandwiches. You can taste that everything is made fresh and with love. The bbq chicken skewers were tender and flavorful and the El Clasico Sandwich - wow! It was cheesy, salty, sweet, all in one bite. The guava sauce on it put it over the top. Marimba cafe is definitely worth multiple visits!

I'm definitely a chocolate chip cookie connoisseur, so I'm picky when it comes to this kind of thing. I only tried them because Starbucks was closed for renovations and I needed something to hold me over. I have to say, I was impressed. The cookies were actually really good. Great flavor and texture. They changed my mind. The only downside for me is the price. Five dollars for one cookie just feels a bit too high. It's not that I'm being cheap, it just doesn't feel right for something like a cookie. I'd buy them again, just not as often as I would with Starbucks. More of a once in a while treat. One thing that would definitely take them to the next level is if they could lightly warm them up when you order. A warm cookie just hits different, and it would really bring out the flavor and texture even more. All in all, definitely worth trying. I'm glad I gave them a shot.
