We were in the area running some errands and were looking for a nice Sunday lunch, spotted this place, and after a quick scroll through reviews we joined the waitlist. Went with two shared apps (buffalo shrimp - good, but just a straight hot sauce spice - and the giant pretzel - good, but a little buttery than we might have preferred. We got a couple shared pizzas and enjoyed the crispy crust, the create your own with Italian sausage was my favorite (it also reheated well at home the next day). Great beer list and some wine selections on tap, hoping to be back in the neighborhood to stop by again. read more

Busy tonight due to Father's Day but the food and drinks were still great. Food came out mostly all together which was a bummer since we ordered appetizers, salad and pizza. But it was still great. Sorry, just reviewed this a couple weeks ago, and was excited to say it was very good. Today I'm downgrading this to average because of consistency. Same meatballs I had at early lunch were dry, tasteless and hard at a 7pm dinner. Pizza was below average as well, with an ambivalent waitress. Absolutely delicious pizza! The marinara wasn't strong and the flavor was perfection. I got the super margarita pizza. The hummus has a weird tingly battery acid taste. 2 bites was 2 too many. The pita bread however was great!! I ordered a Roy Rogers drink and it was wrong (yuck Dr Pepper) instead of coke. I didn't get it replaced. Pizza is alright - about the equivalent of Mr Jims. (Thick bland crust with lots of tomato based sauce). We ordered the bees knees. It was good but not great. I do recommend the deviled eggs. Service was friendly and the atmosphere is fun. I was able to join the waitlist from yelp and the wait was minimal. This rating is strictly about the pizza. There is a family deal $33 for a pretzel, salad and pizza. We ordered an additional pizza as I wanted the pesto based sauce and everyone wanted the tomato based sauce and you can't split a pie w different sauces. The dough tasted like dry cardboard. Came here with my fiancé for a night out. We got seated pretty quickly which was nice and had a nice server. We came during their happy hour so we were lucky to get discounted drinks and appetizer. We ordered the meatballs as a starter. The meatballs were over cooked and charred on the outside making them quite dry. I didn't really enjoy them so I mainly picked on the bread and covered it with the tomato sauce. We also got two pizzas, the Bee's Knees and the Chicken Bacon Boom Boom. My fav out of the two would have to be the Bee's Knees because there wasn't too much going on with it and it has more of a sweet & spicy flavor to it. My issue with the pizzas would have to be that the crust is so thin and soft, it becomes soggy from all the pizza toppings and sauces. Came here with a pretty large group of coworkers on a weeknight and we were seated immediately. This restaurant has a really cool rustic vibe to it, very Dallas if you are bringing people from out of town! Our waitress was really sweet and even though it was a pretty busy night service was very quick. As a table we shared a couple of appetizers my favorite of which was the artichoke dish. I also got the tomato soup which was absolutely delicious, they make each cup to order which is pretty impressive. We got a whole bunch of pizzas between our group and they were all delicious. The drink I had, the rosarita, was also really good. Would definitely recommend this spot for group dinners or a date, really fun vibe and good food that is very reasonably priced! read more

Man, I love this place. Beautiful spot and live music on the weekends. All of the food is absolutely delicious and the drinks are great. The staff is super sweet and we've made this spot our regular spot. Especially when we have no idea what to eat, Taverna. Always. It never misses, truly. I recommend the pink piggy pizza (sometimes instead of sausage we get bacon - both are great!), the pinwheels to share for lunch, and hummus (but no pickled veggies, just pita and cucumber) :) hope this helps someone read more

CONCLUSION: this restaurant earns a solid 3.6 which would be a true 4 if they changed the loud music with really poor choices in what they play that makes it very unenjoyable to sit inside and have a conversation while eating. . PROS: the menu has a nice small selection in each category that allows them to focus on the flavors of each dish . CONS: the music is terrible. Servers were very nice but somewhat inattentive ( sometimes difficult to get their attention when you wanted something). . I've been here so many times! Service is pretty good if they're not super busy. If they're packed like they usually are on a weekend evening, service might not be the best, but that's understandable. The covered outdoor seating can be quite loud, so just take that into consideration when eating there. All their pizzas are phenomenal, my favorite being the Bees Knees. You can jump on their waitlist through yelp which is super helpful (and they actually get through it faster than stated). Overall I highly recommend this place! read more

Taverna Rossa new hidden gem I found in Southlake. This cute abode has the rustic comfort feel. Great for ladies night out to the cute booth set up with the demo lights just right for the perfect date with the beau. To even a large gathering. Menu comes with a good selectable of different tastebuds an not just fixated on one type. The Margarita Pies are my most go to so I had to order. The pie had a very delicate spice that hit right as you bite into it but simmered down with the Texas Local Honey drizzled over it. Taverna Rossa ~ Craft Pizza and Beer was born from the great minds of 33 Restaurant Group and and built from the ground up in Plano, Texas. It's the craft pizza and beer tavern of their dreams, serving crispy, thin-crust Chicago-inspired pizza loaded with locally-sourced ingredients and serving local craft beers. Taverna Rossa - Plano opened in September 2013, followed by Taverna Rossa - Southlake opened in April 2016. 33 Restaurant Group also owns and operates Cadillac Pizza Pub in McKinney, Heritage Pizza & Taproom in The Colony, Union Bear Brewing Co. in Plano, The Yard in McKinney and Suburban Yacht Club in Plano.

Meet the Business Owner: Preston L.

Preston's successful career began before he was even born when he inherited his family's restaurant-centric DNA. His grandparents were in the business for over 50 years. His Mom owns a pizzeria and wine bar where Preston worked as a kid, running food and bussing tables. And after his shift towards entrepreneurialism in college, he turned a semester-long project into an opportunity to plan a pizza concept in detail. Growing-up in Texas, Preston had a love for hometown restaurants. He dreamt of owning his own hometown restaurant that focused on supporting local. In 2013, he opened Taverna Rossa in Plano to be just that! We focus on supporting local schools and charities, sourcing local ingredients for our food, and featuring local bands and breweries at Taverna Rossa. When I went to Jane, the cocktails were not up to snuff. My visit to Volstead, the cocktail was fantastic but the ambiance and food disappointed. I came into Volstead to check out the happy hour. They have a discount on wine, and half off their signature cocktails and martinis. They make craft cocktails, which were impressive, but only have one bartender. It takes time, but they could use another. I ordered a Volstead Vesper. It is a bold martini. Josh made it well. It was well balanced. Boozy yet balanced. And I love a lemon curl. A garnish can really elevate a cocktail. Five stars for the drink. I will come back and order another one. I also ordered their spicy tuna crispy rice. It was rather a disappointment. The serving size was generous, the crunch on the rice was there, and then it fell short. The texture of the rice was on the mushier side. The tuna was NOT spicy. It had been dressed in something, but it brought absolutely NO flavor or anything to the tuna. There was a wasabi cream and a sauce (maybe eel sauce) that dressed the plate, but the tuna was bland. A little soy, citrus, yuzu, sriracha or SOMETHING to elevate and brighten the tuna would have been EVERYTHING. So it just ended up being bland tuna, on undressed avocado, on fried mushy rice with some tasty sauces. It absolutely was not spicy. And with a little something something it could have been rather tasty. Even with mushy rice. When I walked in and sat down, there was no music playing so you were just hearing conversations bouncing off the walls. After about a half hour someone decided they needed some tunes, but then it was too loud and it was hard to hear the bar tenders. I loved the decor, and again, my cocktail was really rather good. The overall feel just felt kind of sloppy. It could have been awesome, and fell short. They claim to have Southlakes best burger, and maybe that is a better choice than the tuna. I may give it a shot. It got rather popular as I was leaving, the crowd a bit more mature. And maybe that is their bag. They have great reviews and high stars, I just didn't feel it.

The fries were exactly what fries should be: hot, crispy, fresh, and wildly addictive. The garden salad was also super crisp and fresh, but the real star was the dressing. I'm pretty sure I ordered three ramekins of it, and if shots of salad dressing were socially acceptable, I would've been in trouble. Service was great too. The bartender was welcoming, friendly, and made the whole experience feel relaxed and easy, no rushed hotel-bar vibes here. Overall, great atmosphere, excellent fries, dangerously good dressing, and a frozen vodka situation that I will absolutely be thinking about again. Would 100% return... and maybe next time, I won't "keep it light."
