Tea Garden is one of my go-to places for decent Chinese food. I stop here during lunch (I dine-in) since they offer 27 Luncheon Specials ($5.75-$8.00) to choose from, which come with white or pork fried rice and choice of soup (Dine-in only). I'm promptly seated in the cozy main dining room, which is usually steady busy. They also have a bar upstairs. For lunch, I usually order the #19 Noodle, Peking Sauce (with pork) ($5.75), which is fairly spicy or the #22 Shrimp & Scallop in Garlic Sauce ($8), which has tender shrimp & scallops woth a mix of fresh vegetables (broccoli, peppers, onions), bamboo shoots, fungi in a savory brown sauce. The portion sizes are good and just right (I can finish the food in one sitting). The entrees could be hotter temperature wise. The pork fried rice served in a separate bowl has a soft texture (brown color) with pieces of roast pork & egg. The hot & sour soup is quite good, which has tofu, egg, bamboo, pork, mushroom slices (canned) & fungi in a thick medium spicy broth. The service here is usually prompt. I'm given a pot of hot tea & ice water as I'm seated (they offer me other drinks to order). The food comes out quickly after I order, soup first, then entree, and then check with fortune cookie when I'm done. It's like clockwork here and I'm back to work on time. Unfortunately, not a great experience. We visited late evening and aside from a crowded bar and outdoor deck there was only one other party in the dining area. Service was quick and friendly. We ordered a standard small apps plate which was OK, nothing remarkable. Then our entree, orange beef arrived. It was rough. The meat was not chewable at all. Attempts to cut the meat were also unsuccessful. The waitress seemed genuinely shocked when I told her how bad the dish was and I ended up feeling a little embarrassed for her. She inspected the food, brought it back to the kitchen and then immediately comped us. The ownership and waitstaff here could not be nicer and more friendly but the dish we ordered is Chinese restaurant cooking 101. Maybe this is a great stop for simple apps and drinks but I would not suggest venturing past that. read more

This place is okay. The prices are right, portions are good, service is good, but there's room for improvement in the flavors. I'd come back if someone else was dying to come here specifically but otherwise, I'd try a new place next time. I'd give it a 2.5 but will round up instead of down. 3 stars heavily takes price/portion value heavily into consideration. I ordered the General Gau, $7. It had a great, crispy texture and I appreciated that the sauce wasn't syrupy and heavy as it is at many establishments. However, I found that it lacked flavor and spice. The white rice tasted like dish detergent, it's possible the cooker wasn't fully rinsed. My lunch came with hot and sour soup which was tasty, though not very hot. It was filled with ingredients. I ordered an appetizer combo lunch (#27) to bring home for my husband.The pork fried rice, crab Rangoon, and chicken fingers were okay (pretty standard). The chicken teriyaki was decent, was moist and had a nice marinade. Service was prompt and courteous, my water was always filled. The atmosphere is a little dark but it's clean. Every.single.picture in the place is crooked. Accessibility: There is seating available at the lower level but the bathrooms are up stairs. The parking lot is a little difficult to get out of, the in/out is only one lane so make sure no one is coming when exit. read more

I know it's busy on New Years Eve but it's no excuse for horrible service and Cold Undercooked food. We couldn't get our water glasses refilled, tried 3 times to tell someone that our food was cold and coagulated. All we kept being told was "I don't know". Waitress finally came by at some point and dropped a bill off but kept walking. Never did she stop and ask us how anything was. She rolled her eyes at us when we were ordering and asked to change something. The service was horrible at best. The food was even worse. I had to take food home to heat it in our own oven. Temperature of food served was under the allowable holding temperatures allowed by law. I will be contacting the health department and filing a report with them regarding this matter. read more

Ok. It's easy to say "best ever" and/or "this was terrible". You know when you're being taken care of, when you sit in a restaurant or not. The food is amazing needless Day, but my server was no where to be found the whole dinner. She never check in, my boyfriend wanted something more to drink and had to ask a different server, and when we received our check ( by the MIA waitress) she did even look at us . This place confuses me. At times the place serves great food, and at others I wouldn't feed it to my dog. I will give places a second chance, and here our family did. Food was good second time around. Then it was bad. Then it was good again. Not sure why, but the lack of consistency is keeping us away now. The restaurant itself is OK, nothing bad, but nothing special either. If you're a gambling person, and feel lucky, give them a shot. You may win and get a good meal. My spot in town for Chinese food! It's a local mom and pop shop with the friendliest staff who will get to know you by name. While the decor is nothing fancy, the atmosphere is cozy. The food is made to order with fresh ingredients, and I have yet to order something I don't like. If you want to adjust anything, they are more than willing to accomodate. Szechuan three delight is a must! They don't skimp on the drinks either. The scorpion bowl is enough to knock you out. On a recent trip to the capitol of the Granite State, I stopped here to have dinner. I was impressed. They give you generous portions of food here - a guy at a table nearby got a good helping of beef with broccoli and after that, I got my order of chicken with broccoli which was plentiful. It definitely filled me up. There's also a patio for eating outside and this is readibly visible from the sidewalk which sold me on the place. We stopped here after driving around downtown Concord looking for a place for dinner. The decor is nothing fancy, and both the lobby and the upstairs bar could probably use a make-over, but the food was very good, and very reasonably-priced. We had Chicken Lo Mein (good), Mu-shu Chicken (very good, and excellent plum sauce), and absolutely the best Orange Chicken that either my wife or I have ever had (we live in California, and we've tried a lot of Orange Chicken dishes). The outside of the chicken was a perfect crispiness, which is unusual with O.C. Overall, we were very happy we found the Tea Garden. There's a newspaper clipping in the lobby that says it was voted the Best Take Out Chinese in Concord. I'm not surprised. If you're near Concord, I would definitely suggest giving Tea Garden a try. read more

I was going to The Tea Garden Restaurant Christmas Eve. I was told by a Customer he called 2 hours ago and he was still waiting. I went someplace else. However I called for Chinese on Christmas. Their was no wait. They said it would be ready in 20 minutes. I was there before that. I got home no my food was cold. I ordered a Pu Pu Platter for 2 and I got 1 spare rib and 1 piece of chicken. You usually get 2 pieces of everything. The egg rolls were not fully cooked. I have raved to people that this is the best Chinese restaurant in Concord. I'm not sure what happened. I've eaten a lot of Chinese food in my 57 years and this has got to be the worst. I've never ordered from here before and thought I'd give it a go. I order appetizers when I try a new place. If they can't do apps then I never return. I won't be returning. The battered apps had too much batter and weren't crispy at all but just loaded with grease and soggy. Local's Favorite for sure - this is one of my absolute favorite places for lunch in town. I always enjoy Chinese food, but I really don't dig buffets as a rule (and there are plenty around here, and they're fine - but just not like this!). Tea Garden is just off exit 14 - if you're getting of I-93, go towards the Concord Main Street (West off 93), and at the light, turn right (north) and Tea Garden is in a tiny building a couple corners up. Your most difficult thing will be the parking lot out back which is a little tight. BACK IN! Trust me - if you're there at a busy time, you'll want to back in. :) Some of the best hot & sour soup around. Lunch specials are excellent - my personal fave is beef w/ mushroom/pea pods. For some reason I really like their brown sauces. Their wings are crispy and not mushy either. Dinners are about the same, and they're affordable. You get a little more on the serving size. Nothing "gourmet" or fancy-shmancy here - just tasty food. As you'll see as you pull up, there's nothing fancy about the building either, but inside is bright and clean. This is definitely a local's favorite, and you can tell because the staff recognizes us! And when I'm downtown and have a hankering for Chinese, this is my go-to place! If you are just passing through, it's pretty quick off the interstate. Please give them a try - Tea Garden has been around for a long time, and I hope they stick around for a lot longer!
