Definitely one of the top, unknown date spots in Providence with excellent tea selections, friendly staff, and private and romantic ambiance. I came here, unfortunately on a hot summer afternoon and their AC was not functioning properly. With a brow soaked with sweat and hot spicy tea, we transitioned from the dining room to the indoor couches, under the direct blow of the air conditioner, and ultimately had to leave. We sampled three different types of tea (in which the names escape me), but I definitely recommend the one with the honey. The home made hummus was well prepared and I did not try out some of the other sandwiches, which I hear are less than impressive. Overall, I think this would be a delightful spot for a first date to really get to know your date while exploring new dining experiences. read more

Amazing food, service and ambience. My wife took me here for my birthday and we had a fairly large sampling from the menu, including 2 teas. They had live music when we went. It's a cozy, intimate setting but not stifling. I highly recommend this place any day of the week. read more

Wow, what can I say about this tiny little hole in the wall restaurant/cafe. It is very low key and a pervasive sense of solemnity is palpable. It has middle eastern food and tea but it is more than its fare. It is kind of an experience to enter the place itself and sit down. It feels a little bit like visiting a foreign country. There are lots of plants, a moroccan shaped doorway leading you into the backroom, and various ways of seating yourself like on couches, at tables, or in easy chairs. They also have hookah. The wait staff is friendly and I love the way they pour the tea when they serve you. Every waiter I've had has done this. They bring you the pot and the cup and then they pour the first cup for you and raise the teapot maybe as much as 3 feet above the cup while they pour it. Perhaps this is intended to cool the tea or maybe it's just supposed to look cool (which it does). I have not tried the hookah but I'm sure it's good and fun. Plan to soon because I live super close. The purpose of this review, apart from being intended to plug this little place, is actually to tell you about a single dish of theirs: the vegetable samosas. They. Are. Superb. I got one order and, upon finishing it, had the impulse to buy about about 5 more immediately. I managed to restrain myself somehow though I felt kind of conflicted. More about the Samosas. They were crisp, satisfying, refreshing, plump (but not overstuffed like samosas or dumplings often are), delicious, and left me wanting about 20 more. The balance between crust and filling also was just right. So often, there is either too much crust or too much filling but these somehow nailed the ratio of crust to contents. The dipping sauce also was sweet, tangy, and just somehow the perfect companion to these fried morsels of ambrosia. I'm telling you, these things were just tantalizing and delicious beyond words. They must put some kind of black magic into these things because they were just too tasty to be ordinary food if you ask me. I mean, I suppose, the fact that they were so good might be attributable to the fact that I had kind of a nasty, bummer of a day in some ways and you know that quote by Tyler Durden I'm sure: "Tomorrow that man's breakfast will taste better than any meal you or I have ever eaten." Raymond K Hessel, the man he's referring to, will enjoy his breakfast so much (in case you haven't seen fight club) because he had a near-death experience. I didn't exactly almost die today though I did feel so upset that I wanted to kill someone and maybe that satisfies the requirements for making food taste better as well. Aside from whatever I happen to be bringing to the table with these samosas, they were out of this world and I doubt I will feel whole again until I eat some more. Lol, but seriously. The humble but clean wood floors, mosaic tables, colored glass lanterns and leather floor cushions give an inviting old-world feel. Food is simple and fresh: grape-leave rolls like mom makes them, goat cheese and figs on toasty bread, gorgeous oil-cured olives. The first time visiting here everything was good. So that why I came back. I didn't know the place doesn't allow outside food. A guy works there( I assume he is the owner) came up to me without any explanation and said "you need to wrap your food and everything and get the fuck out of here". I was shocked. One of my favorites spots in Providence. Tea in Sahara is a small, quaint tea/hookah cafe that serves the surrounding community in the East side of Providence. The Moroccan mint tea is my favorite tea to get and their hookah is on point. The aesthetics of the cafe is visually pleasing and the music that the owner plays makes it seem like you are in a different country. I would recommend this place if you want to get together with a few friends or to casually study. The owner is also a super nice guy. This place is one of my favorites in the area. Have you ever been to Morocco? No? I have and do you know what this place is? A little slice of Moroccan heaven. I am quite literally in love with this spot and why I haven't gone in sooner now confuses me. Tucked away on the east side of Providence, it looks tiny from the outside but its actually very spacious inside. The best part about this place..ok, one of the best parts is that when you walk in you instantly receive a relaxing vibe. Forget Starbucks, theres no pressure to order your latte correctly here. There is culture here. This place is a next level escape. There are colorful tiled tables and chairs and in the back room there are big couches and pillows. Art and jewelry are strewn about on walls and shelves, and I believe most of it is for sale. There is soft Moroccan music playing that it soothing but not overbearing. The entire atmosphere is relaxing and peaceful. It is very easy to go off into your own little area and do whatever it is you want to do be it read, study or enjoy some of their delicious mint tea (unreal). Seriously, go there for this tea. A little silver tea pot with fresh mint leaves will arrive at your table and the server will expertly pour it into your glass; if you go there, you'll understand what this means (pause for effect of suspense). The tea is so fresh and delicious. Their food is really great too. I tried grapes leaves for the first time ever (I know) and they too tasted so fresh and good. I have no clue what's even in grape leaves but I'm hooked. As for the crowd: everyone is generally quiet and busy; most people are working or reading. Don't get the wrong impression though, the place isn't at all like a library. People buzzing about their own lives reading, chatting or typing. There is free WIFI and and an assortment of hookahs with a mix of cool flavors. The prices are pretty cheap, no breaking the bank and everything is well worth the price. Tea in Sahara is quintessentially Providence. It's a hookah bar/cafe run out of a house on Governor Street with outdoor seating in the rear. Its a neighborhood joint that you can walk to, one of those places that makes the town special. I also learned that Tea in the Sahara is the name of a pretty decent song by The Police. Too bad I couldn't bring myself to like it despite wanting to. First off, i'm not a fan of their signature mint iced tea. The consistency of the "tea" here is thick and syrupy, tastes overly saccharine, which dominates the faint taste of tea and muddled mint. It would have been better black and unsweetened to allow for customization and maybe with some lemon. The prospect of smoking in a place without noise pollution like Pitbull remixes and dubstep playing in the background was intriguing. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to enjoy the brief period of silence as the hookah seemed very harsh and acrid. It induced a cough - probably as a result of being unclean? The silence dissipated as some kids decided to bang on the stray conga drums. Musicians they were not. I'm guessing the accoustics are worse when school is in session and the place is more crowded. Another quibble is that hookah coals are frequently changed by the staff at other places. Doing it yourself here is a chore. Although this has the trappings of a great spot, the execution leaves a lot to be desired and isn't good enough to warrant a second visit. read more

This place charges a pretty penny for a small amount of tea. There was no pita so I could not get hummus and it had kind of a dingy run down feel that I might have enjoyed if I were still in college. Possibly this was from the hookah element which I also find tacky. read more

For starters, the guy running the counter was nowhere to be seen when we walked in and rang the bell despite there being several people seated already. When he showed up, he was talking on a cellphone, got behind the counter, and kept motioning for us to hold on a second while he talked on the phone. We ordered a tea and a hookah. The tea took almost 25 minutes to get to us, and he didn't even start prepping the hookah until after we got the tea, but he didn't run any other orders out to anybody so I have no idea what he could have been doing in the mean time. When he finally brought it over to us, we noticed he was pretty visibly drunk. He also told me I could not use my electronic cigarette despite that I could clearly see people in the back room using theirs because "The police are trying to ban tobacco so if they see that I'm gone". An electronic cigarette doesn't even contain tobacco, mine doesn't even have any nicotine in it. Not to mention I probably wouldn't even have used it to begin with if we hadn't been waiting over 30 minutes to get the $20 hookah we got. Not once afterwards did the guy pass by to see how we were doing, we actually watched another customer walk all around the store after ringing the bell trying to find the guy before giving up. Not once did he offer to change the coals either, which has happened at literally every other hookah bar I've ever been in. The guy didn't even have rubber caps for the hookah, he handed up alcohol wipes and told us to just use those, because everybody knows rubbing alcohol tastes delicious. The tea was way sweeter than we expected, and yet still somehow tasted bitter, and two of the three glasses had cracks in them. Those shouldn't be served to customers, especially if you're worried about being shut down. read more

Sorry it USE to be one of my favorite places. It sells itself that it is a peaceful and calm place to chit chat. That couldn't be any more further from the truth the night my friend and I went. I still can't believe they allowed douchey teenagers basically the run of the place while some people were trying to talk in peace. Typically the back parlor is designed for party-like behavior so I would understand if it was just in there. But why would they allow people to spontaneously play bongos in the front room, literally feet away from others talking and studying is beyond comprehension. I found this spot taking a back road to Wickendon. I'm charmed by the atmosphere and the delicious Moroccan Mint tea; the good wifi, plentiful power outlets and quiet atmosphere make it perfect for work or study. It's out of the way, but not excessively so, and parking along the street is free, making it a rare bird in Providence. I'm not into hookah and I don't have much experience with Moroccan bars, so I don't have any point of comparison to judge this place's authenticity. I still like it, though, and intend to return. read more
