You order at the counter and pick it up when ready in take-out containers. The cafe has a few tables for dining-in but no table service (and no tableware save for disposable chopsticks and utensils). While we were there, it was obvious that they do a brisk take-out biz. I had a scallion beef which was excellent; my daughter had one of their signature double-cooked pork dishes (which I must have next time), and my wife had a good garlic eggplant dish. My favorite Mala Spicy Pot in Connecticut. My go-to's as an undergrad at UConn were always the Mala Spicy Pot and Scallion Fatty Beef. You really can't go wrong with what you choose to add to the Mala Spicy Pot, but I recommend adding instant noodles. I always opt for a bunch of add-ons and then save the rest as leftovers. The Scallion Fatty Beef is delicious, but for over $15 I would expect more beef and less rice. There's a card minimum of $8 so bring cash if you're only planning on getting a drink. read more

Been here a couple of times, and it is consistently good. The food is always done to the correct consistency and with very little sodium allowing for the natural flavor of the food to come out. The mala spicy pot is amazing, with delicious fresh veggies and tofu and a wide variety of protein choices as add-ons. It is a great size to share with friends or save for leftovers, so don't let the price of the mala pot dissuade you- the portions are huge! The mala soup and other entrees like the spicy jumbo shrimp are also delicious. The service is fantastic, I always get my food super quickly and the owners are so kind. You may not know what bubble tea is. It's a way of serving a cold tea. My only complaint is that the menu here doesn't at all make it clear that you can-- and should, at least to try it-- order any cold tea as bubble tea. I had one of the fruity teas and my partner had a milky green tea. Bubble tea-- invented in 1986 in Taiwan-- is a cup of tea with pea-sized black tapioca pearls in it. The tapioca does have a taste of its own but the fun in the bubble tea is sucking those pieces through the specially shaped straw and chewing on them. If you don't like tapioca because it's too 'slimy' to you, you will want to pass of course. Your straw will sometimes clog despite its shape, and you will have to blow the pearls out and try again. If you are totally against fun, you may not like bubble tea. I did not have any food. But I will be back for the bubble tea! read more

Braised pork is their signature dish IMO but their hot pots are filled with all sorts of goodies. Seating is pretty sparse but it works. I am from San Francisco and grew up in Chinatown. I ate here twice during my visit to Storrs, and man... it's was amazing. The mala tang had all of my favorite things in one bowl, and is Sichuan spicy for real. Spicy chicken was great too. During the 40 minutes I was there on the first visit, maybe 30 Asian people came to pick up food here. Not to say all aren't welcome, but more to say, this Chinese food is legit! Staff was really nice and the young owner is proud of how authentic their food is. I wish I could try more things from the menu, *sigh*... I was quickly disappointed to find out that all their slush/smoothie bubble tea flavors had dairy in it. This is one of the more authentic places you'll find in the area serving Chinese food. Tea More Cafe is located in the Storrs Center, not too far from UCONN's campus. There is limited free parking available in front of the cafe with a 1 hr time limit. There is also a parking garage next door to the cafe (on the left hand side) that is a 1 minute walk away. Parking in the garage is free for 2 hrs. Despite its name, Tea More Cafe serves more food items than bubble tea. Most of the food consists of spicier Chinese cuisine and street food, though they do serve some American Chinese food as well. The menu consists of appetizers (these are a bit pricey with most appetizers in the $5.99-6.99 range), malatang ($9.99-$11.99), mala spicy pot ($10.99+), signature special entrees ($9.99-$12.99; served with white rice, vegetable egg roll, and broccoli) and various bubble teas and Yakult drinks ($4+). They largely advertise the malatang (spicy noodle soup similar to hot pot) on their menu as well as the mala spicy pot (dry hot pot with no broth). The mala spicy pot is served with white rice and additional toppings are $3-$5. My brothers and I walked in on a late afternoon. There were a few people inside, but it was uncomfortably quiet with no music playing. I noticed a lot of people, particularly UCONN students, would come in and grab their food to-go. I almost wish I didn't order the food to dine-in because it was a little agonizing to sit there and eat in silence near the employees. Normally I'm not picky about this but I think it would be nice to have some background music to lighten the atmosphere and make it a more welcoming hang-out spot. Usually bubble tea/street food cafes are comfortable places for people to hang out, play board games, chat, study, etc. But the atmosphere in here was a little awkward. There are multiple tables available with the largest tables able to accommodate 6-7 people. We ended up ordering beef malatang, sesame chicken, and regular milk tea without toppings. The beef malatang is pretty good. It really hit the spot for my malatang craving. It's better than what I expected for a small joint in Connecticut, and definitely numbing and spicy. I just wish the broth was a little less watery and more spicy, but they do have chili oil available if you'd like to add more to it. They give a generous portion of beef brisket and the malatang includes tofu skin, cabbage, enokitake, lettuce, cilantro, and wood ear. For the noodles you can choose between clear noodles, rice noodles, or instant noodles. The sesame chicken is bright orange in color and standard for what you'd get from a takeout place. My brother enjoyed it and the portion of the entree was pretty good too. I was expecting the milk tea to be pretty bad according to previous reviews. I've been especially spoiled with bubble tea in Atlanta so I'd like to think I'm a decent judge. And honestly, the bubble tea here is not bad. It's definitely not a strong tea flavor and may even be a bit watered down, but overall taste is still okay and it will still satisfy your boba craving. I did not get boba with my milk tea so unfortunately I cannot vouch for the bubbles themselves. The employees at the counter who took our order were nice and the food was served promptly. Overall a decent place if you have a craving for more authentic Chinese food. Bubble tea is okay but I'd come here moreso for the food. I've heard bad things about their bubble tea, but I gave them a shot any way since they are new. I should have listened to my friend. I ordered the rose tea. There was nothing rose about it. Literally it was milk tea with some rose syrup or something. The cup was a small size, there was no ice, and I was not given the option to choose sugar level or ice level. The wait time does get a little long around 12-1PM but it's reasonable since there usually is around ~10 people waiting for their order as well. Ive tried 3 different bubble teas here. The Rose Tea, Honey Winter melon tea, and a Peach tea I believe. I enjoyed all 3 teas, they are nicely flavored and tasted fresh. I haven't tried any of the food, however. I did notice the staff tends to pay more attention to customers who are also Chinese. It seems to me they "favor" them, which is kind of rude to me.
