    Mala Spicy Pot

My favorite Mala Spicy Pot in Connecticut. My go-to's as an undergrad at UConn were always the Mala Spicy Pot and Scallion Fatty Beef. You really can't go wrong with what you choose to add to the Mala Spicy Pot, but I recommend adding instant noodles. I always opt for a bunch of add-ons and then save the rest as leftovers. The Scallion Fatty Beef is delicious, but for over $15 I would expect more beef and less rice. There's a card minimum of $8 so bring cash if you're only planning on getting a drink.

Been here a couple of times, and it is consistently good. The food is always done to the correct consistency and with very little sodium allowing for the natural flavor of the food to come out. The spring roll isn't very good but the tea egg you can get instead is eggcellent! Fresh cilantro and a chili paste are always available at the counter, a nice touch. Among us we had a strawberry, taro and Thai iced teas, all very good.

Impressed! I walked in here not knowing what to expect. I only assumed that the portions would be small. Was I wrong, and learned a valuable lesson, that assumptions are the mother of all screwups. This place is the real deal, and the portions are large, generously. This is the spot to try out and enjoy. Love to come back and try me some more.

Tea More Cafe has "tea" in their name but their mala dishes are truly the highlight of their menu. The mala spicy pot is amazing, with delicious fresh veggies and tofu and a wide variety of protein choices as add-ons. It is a great size to share with friends or save for leftovers, so don't let the price of the mala pot dissuade you- the portions are huge! The mala soup and other entrees like the spicy jumbo shrimp are also delicious. The service is fantastic, I always get my food super quickly and the owners are so kind. There is plenty of seating, though it is not a table service place so keep that in mind. Definitely check it out when you're in storrs!

My husband and I stopped in here while in the area since we were both craving some bubble tea. We got a taro and green tea and they were delicious! The size was decent and an alright price overall. The folks inside were friendly as well. I'd want to come back and try out their food!

Their food never misses mann. Great flavor, you can't go wrong with any choices imo. The shrimp mala tang comes with a variety of vegetables and the clear noodles have a nice texture to them. The coconut shrimp also be hitting-everything I dream coconut shrimp to be :') Also recommend the cumin lamb, spicy fatty beef, or popcorn chicken! I come here mainly for the food, I thought the drinks were ight, the boba consistency could be a hit or miss sometimes.

Fish Mala Tang has all of my favorite things in one bowl!

I am from San Francisco and grew up in Chinatown. I ate here twice during my visit to Storrs, and man... it's was amazing. The mala tang had all of my favorite things in one bowl, and is Sichuan spicy for real. Spicy chicken was great too. During the 40 minutes I was there on the first visit, maybe 30 Asian people came to pick up food here. Not to say all aren't welcome, but more to say, this Chinese food is legit! Staff was really nice and the young owner is proud of how authentic their food is. I wish I could try more things from the menu, *sigh*... This was an unexpected highlight of my trip, i highly recommend!

Oriental Cafe has really nailed it the last couple of times I've gone…read more Earlier this year, I went here for dine in. It was a holiday weekend and we were the only ones dining in, but takeout orders were booming and our waitress (a very friendly and welcoming short Asian woman) was doing an amazing job checking in on us, and running over to the takeout area constantly to give people orders. On that day, I really enjoyed my Miso Soup (a perfect small portion to warm me up) and Teriyaki Tofu, although it came with a ton of onions that I did not care for. It came out sizzling hot and seemed to continue to cook after it was on my table, so the onion flavor became really strong and almost gave me a headache, but I ate around it. The veggies were fresh and the tofu had a great crispy breading on it. The sauce was very thick and a little went a long way - I almost wish it were a little thinner so it could spread more evenly across my food to give it some moisture. Today I ordered takeout online through the Seamless site. It said food would be ready in 10-15 minutes, which felt crazy fast. Lo and behold, about 12 minutes after I placed my order, I got a text that it was already ready for pickup! I couldn't grab it until well over 20 minutes had gone by, and even by the time I got home, everything was still perfectly hot and nothing had to be reheated. A young man gave me my order and I was in and out of the plaza in 60 seconds or less, so efficient and no wait! I tried the Teriyaki Tofu again today because I really did love it, but keep forgetting to ask for no onions. I also got the Peanut Avocado Maki Roll with Spicy Mayo - I've never seen this combo for sushi and had to try it! The seaweed had a really strong flavor that surprisingly overpowered the peanuts, how odd. I almost wish this came with some sort of peanut sauce to really double down on the flavor! It was good and fresh but a little less exciting than I thought it'd be. Their menu has a wide range of both Chinese and Japanese dishes. There's plenty of parking in the shared lot, and you have to go down some steps to the bottom floor of the plaza. The steps are a little tilted, so watch out. I'm not sure if there is a mobility impaired accessible way to access this floor. Prices seem reasonable and takeout was very fast. I'll be back!

I was feeling under the weather (sore throat caught from my grandson), so figured some miso soup…read morewould be helpful. Ordered two maki roles (salmon/avocado and cucumber/avocado). Food tasted decent enough - I ate it all. Within a couple hours, it was coming back up and out both ends (not to be graphic). Not sure if it was contaminated, but my stomach says never go back there again. Way sicker now then when I started...

We got to chat with the owner Ping very nice gentleman originally from Hong Kong. He came to check on us to make sure everything is good that we like the food. Because it's late there's only one chef in the kitchen, the food still come out fast and excellent quality. Very good service, our server is very busy cleaning up the restaurant while still refill our water and tea and comes over to clean our table. Very polite people here. This is the best Cantonese dinner restaurants in East Coast, forget about going to flushing ny or Brooklyn if you want authentic good Cantonese food, get the real one here. Reminds me of Hong Kong Chow fun is fresh homemade, i've never had better one!! We ordered beef chow fun. Beef with bitter melon so flavorful tender beef. Steam fish fillets so yummy why something so simple so good!! 京都骨 pork chop very light batter sauce not over sweet like those in flushing/Brooklyn, no red coloring added. To die for!! I could literally eat my body weight in these! Pro tip: dip them in the spicy Chinese mustard & then into the duck sauce - sweet, heat, crunch... perfection! Just be warned, it is very easy to fill up on these before your meal even arrives! From the dim sum menu, we ordered the deep fried taro dumplings, steamed shrimp dumplings & our favorite, stir-fried Chinese broccoli with garlic. I wish we had more people so we could order more dim sum items to share! From the regular menu, hubby ordered the lunch combo #14: jumbo shrimp with vegetables, golden fingers, fried rice & egg roll. Lunch specials are smaller portion, but good for the price (raised to $12.95 now since my last menu photo) We split a lot of dishes because we couldn't decide: Wonton soup appetizer {4.5/5}: Loved how delicate the wontons were and the clear broth was great for a cold day. Tad too salty though. Lunch special --Braised pork belly {3/5}: Very tender, but kind of monotone in flavor. Very filling! Lunch special --Hot and sour gizzards {4.5/5}: This might freak people out in terms of texture, but I LOVE this texture. Good chew and pops of heat from the peppers and acid from the pickled green beans Lunch special --Cumin dish lamb {3/5}: kind of chewy and not as much flavor as I wished, but not bad! Chicken wings {3/5}: Crunchyyyy. Battered wings, not as much flavor as their chongqing chicken which I prefer, but not bad

Outside is very much a busy shopping plaza in not the best part of town. Inside is a completely different story. Very clean and spacious, lots of booths and tables. Decorated well and a lot to see. The staff were friendly but there was a slight language barrier. We fumbled through the menu and found some bites to try. Food came out relatively quick, and that was a bit to manage because there were a lot of plates brought rather quickly. We got pics and dug in. The bites were flavored well. Nothing felt too greasy or under seasoned. The white pepper chicken was very crispy. But not a lot of chicken on each bite. The sweet and sour soup was both sweet and sour, but balanced enough that you could keep on eating it. The dumplings were fresh noodles and the filling was spiced well. The only flop was the spare ribs. Really tasty sauce, but very little meat on the bone. Had to suck on the bones to scrape enough meat off to make it a proper appetizer. It tasted good, just was not easy to eat. Price for the area was high for the neighborhood. It's got the quality and the flavor to command that price easily, but it doesn't match the stores. It's really good, but know that you're getting the real deal sichuan experience. Expect some heat, some saucy fingers, and some bones, and you'll get some really good bites
