Tea top was one of the only good boba shops I had when living in Maryland for a couple years. Because of that, I tend to avoid this shop when I am craving boba because this was basically all I had prior to moving here to HTX. I keep telling myself to stop, because I really love their Wintermelon Green Tea. It is VERY hard to find a boba shop that makes decent Wintermelon Green Tea, where there's a fine balance between the taste of Wintermelon and Green Tea. Generally, I always prefer to have a stronger tea flavor while the other parts of the drink acts more so as a note or as a supplement. But here, the combination at equal parts is great! The service is pretty quick, as they have multiple employees making the drinks. Seating wise, this place can be a little packed, so you may sometimes have a hard time chilling there with friends. read more

Tea Top is delicious and most importantly, consistent. There are countless boba shops in Houston and even in Dun Huang Plaza, but we always find ourselves back at Tea Top. It's bustling without feeling overly loud, there are outlets on the walls, and they're quick to serve. I love their grapefruit green tea, but their milk teas and slushies have also been great. Every topping has been the right texture, the sweetness not overwhelming. The drinks are automatically made with lactose free milk and they use real taro. The prices are on par with other places in Chinatown. I haven't had a bad cup at Tea Top. They serve excellence consistently and quickly, which makes it my top boba shop. read more

Nice little shop in a very very busy shopping complex. This complex is always busy as there are SO many businesses that are squeezed in this 1 sq mile of land. If you are not able to find a parking spot in front of where you're going, there is a very big parking garage that has free parking. It was a Sunday afternoon when I visited tea top and it was very busy. Extremely long line, but it moved pretty quickly. I ordered an oolong tea with cheese foam. I tasted mostly the cheese foam, but that's what I was looking for out of the drink. The cheese foam was really good. The tea was very creamy with the foam, so it was kind of like a milk tea. I have been on a tea high lately, originally I was at sharetea but I came here because they were out of Mango Green tea :(. Since this was basically next door and people have been talking about it, I mind as well give this place a shot. I came in around 8pm and the place wasn't that busy so I was able to order quickly, the cashier was very pleasant and what a coincidence she also recommended me the Mango green tea as well. I asked her not put so much sweetness to the drink because I wanted to actually taste the tea. Did she disappoint me? Ehhh a little bit. While the tea was refreshing it was a bit too sweet for me and I could barely taste the tea from the drink. But I recognize that's a personal preference as I don't typically like my milk tea too floral. Even at 30% sweet though, it was still a tad bit too sweet because of the pearls. Heard about this place over the grapevine and had to check it out while I was in Houston, and I'm glad I did! This was a solid boba place with nice and tasty drinks. I got the brown sugar milk tea with boba and it was so yummy! I don't usually get brown sugar milk teas, but I might just start getting them more now. I got 50% sweet because it's the lowest they could go, and it was a bit sweeter than I usually like, but the distinct brown sugar flavor balanced it out pretty nicely. Tea Top stays true to its name....it's truly at the top of the boba game. (Sorry, Gong Cha! You're now 2nd on my list). This place covers all qualities that I look for in a boba shop. With the inflated prices of these drinks nowadays, I expect shops to serve high quality ingredients (none of that powdered tea crap!), boba that is Q, meaning neither overly chewy/soggy/raw, and consistent drink quality. Not gonna lie, Tea Top is on the pricier side with some drinks costing more than $6 with tax. My favorite drink is the tiger tea as it tastes exactly like the famous boba shop (陳三鼎) near NTU campus in Taipei. Also really enjoy the Sun Moon Lake Black Tea. Its flavor is not as strong as an Assam tea and very smooth. I typically don't like drinks with fruity flavors and a green tea base as it typically contains syrup, but I really enjoy the Passion Green Tea here. If you're into grass jelly though, I recommend Chinatown's Meet Fresh grass jelly more. In comparison Tea Top's is slightly less intense in flavor. What they're guaranteeing for these franchises is that they will get their exclusive high quality tea from Tea Top's own tea facility so the quality will be consistent. The decor for this location is hip and trendy along with a decent amount of seatings in the store. Even though it's been a few months since this location opened, every time I've gone there with friends or by myself, it seems there's always a line for ordering but they move pretty fast. Like all the new boba milk tea chains, to help customers make an easier decision on what to get for their drinks, there's always a Top 10 on the menu that consist of pretty much one drink per category. One of the beverage I like to get from here is the red bean slushy, especially during our hot Houston summer. You can customize your sweetness level and I feel like 50% sweet is a good combination as the red bean itself is sweet as it is. I've been cheating on my favorite tapioca places (Kung Fu Tea and Teaholic) lately... Tea Top has the best tapioca in my opinion. I recently went to try 7 Leaves and their tapioca was tasteless. The tapioca here has the right amount of sweetness and bite to each tapioca ball! I always order the Sun Moon Lake Black Tea with half sugar and tapioca and my bf always orders the Trifecta. We always order the same thing each time and not once have we been disappointed! There are plenty of workers behind the counter, sometimes so much that I'm not really sure why there are so many to begin with. We never have to wait long for our drinks either. All these new boba places popping up in Chinatown! Apparently Tea Top is a popular chain that has made itself down to Houston. They are known for their "tea" taste which I agreed that I could taste the actual tea flavor. The shop is small with a small number of tables. I had their Earl gray milk tea while the other people in my group had mung bean and taro. All the drinks were tasty and I could tell they use good ingredients in their drinks. The taro drink was more "starchy" as what I would expect from a taro. You can adjust the sweetness so the drinks were not overwhelmed by sugar. The tapioca balls were soft and chewy in a good way. For pricing, the drinks were slightly more expensive than the typical boba shop I usually go to but not that much more. I like the drinks here and recommend it. read more

I ordered the MILK FOAM BLACK TEA. The tea was light, but you could definitely taste a subtle earthiness, which went well with the bold creamy cheese foam on top. The cheese tasted different from the katy location. It's not as sweet, but has a bolder creamier taste. I got my drink 50% sweet because the cheese usually does the trick of sweetening it all up. Best boba in Chinatown!! There is just something special about Tea Top that KFT, Gong Cha, and Sharetea can't match. The drinks are always so good and refreshing. I have yet to have a disappointing experience here after over ten visits. I highly recommend the Alpine Green Tea. It tastes like they just picked the tea leaves off the highest mountains of Asia. Looking for a tea house in what's probably the biggest complex in Chinatown, we decided to stop at this hip boba shop after lunch near the front of the complex. Unfortunately, it was a Saturday afternoon so it was rather busy. We waited in line for about 10-15 minutes, and then ordered and got our teas maybe 5-7 minutes after that. When walking in though, I was impressed with the vibe of the place. It was very modern and fresh looking, and it felt like I was walking into somewhere that just opened up. I got the Earl Grey Milk Tea (80% sugar) with boba pearls, and I think that it was quite tasty! I liked that it wasn't too sweet where I could taste the tea flavor, and I think that the consistency of the pearls was just right (not too chewy, but chewy enough). They also had a "Top 10" list on their menu which was very helpful in deciding what to get; I didn't feel like I was running in the dark like when I go to most boba shops. Unfortunately, I paid around $6 for my drink. Although this is the standard at most tea houses, I always feel a little strange paying so much for a drink. This place is definitely a solid choice for boba that does most things right, but considering that they don't do anything amazingly out of the ordinary and that they uphold the overpriced nature of the product, I'll stray away from giving this place full marks.
