Came her for a friend's birthday. Everyone was satisfied with their food, which was good. I'm not adventurous enough to try sushi, so I got the lo mein. No complaints there. I also got a delicious cold green tea. I would come back here just to drink the tea. I don't know if our waitress was new or what, but she was unable to answer basic questions my friend had about what was in one of the dishes and had to go ask someone. Teapot is great. I eat here nearly once a week during the school year and crave it when I leave for the summer. The food is always delicious, the wait staff are polite, but not overbearing, and the atmosphere is very relaxed (at least during the week--I don't typically head over on weekends). I am a vegetarian who doesn't eat eggs, so I have a hard time finding places that offer multiple options for me to choose from. Teapot has a ton of options to choose from, both in terms of Chinese food and sushi. I typically go elsewhere for sushi, simply because I like more interesting rolls than the standard vegetarian fare. However, their Chinese food is delicious. I order the sesame tofu almost every week. I've ordered sesame tofu from five other restaurants (I know, I'm obsessed) and it never comes close to Teapot. The only complaints I have are that the consistency is sometimes a bit off (the flavor is always there, but sometimes the sauces get a bit runny) and delivery can take a long time on nights when Smith has awful food (cheese ball and crackers? fish for the third time that week? nothing but pasta anywhere?!) So on days when the Smith menu looks gross, I just order 15 minutes before I normally would and never have a problem. Neither of these are big enough issues that I'd dock a star though. I've also never had a problem with the wait staff. I actually like when waitresses aren't overly attentive. I'd rather enjoy my meal and my time out with my friends instead of being bombarded. However, if ever anyone needs something, we just wave someone down. It's never been a problem. read more

I went to Teapot around 2:30pm on a Saturday afternoon with a group of five. There was hardly anyone else in the restaurant and we received very prompt service. There was much confusion when ordering because the waitress asked if we were ordering the "lunch" or "regular" versions of our meals since they offer the lunch menu Mon-Sat until 3:30pm. One person at the table ordered the Jazz sushi roll and was very pleased. Another ordered the General Tso's chicken and stated he would not order it again. My sesame tofu was extremely mushy and was complimented with three undercooked broccoli spears. The highlight of the table was the spicy Thai chicken, which everyone grabbed some of. The sweet and sour chicken was described as good, not great. A plus for the Tea Pot is that they had a very extensive menu with many non-meat options. Also, the lunch menu prices were very reasonable and included rice and a choice of soup. The food was okay, nothing spectacular. If the bathroom had smelled better, it may have gotten three stars instead of two. read more

Best orange chicken, pork fired rice, and egg roll out there. All for ~$6 lunch special. The staff is pleasant and attentive - they'll come four or five times to refill your water or check on you. If you're some kind of vegan, or consider yourself a sushi connaiseur, it seems like this isnt your cup of tea. But if you have a hankering for "american" chinese food, this place will send you away happy. Some advice: the food quality decreases dramatically when you get it for take-out, eg gets soggy. Also you can get about the same amount of food at lunch special for about a third the price then as dinner, so get there before 3:30. read more

I have never written a review before, but I feel I would be doing Northampton an injustice if I didn't advise y'all that this place is dirty with bad food and bad service. I have never liked this place. The sushi has always been a little "off" and there is always something old and gross stuck to either a plate or a glass. This is our family's favorite restaurant! We love the cozy atmosphere and the service is perfect. We always order sushi, Hot and sour seafood soup,for two, crab rangoon and best of all the Grand Marnier shrimp. We have had graduation and birthday parties here, and everyone raves about the food. We like sitting on the upper level, where they will pull several tables together to accommodate out larger groups. When my daughter and son in law come back in to the area, the first thing they ask is... TEAPOT TONIGHT? Then we stroll around beautiful downtown Northampton, doggie bags in hand! It's EXTREMELY difficult to find good, authentic Asian cuisine in the area, so I was quite impressed with Teapot's sushi. I introduced my boyfriend to sushi with this restaurant and he's been addicted ever since. Their ebi-tempura maki is especially superb--I've actually never eaten better ebi-tempura maki anywhere else, not even on the West Coast! It's crunchy and doused with this delicious sauce. On the other hand, I've also tried their standard Chinese dishes, but they weren't anything special. My advice is to stick with their sushi. read more

Went yesterday 2 hours before closing. It was very slow and pepper, salt and soy sauce bottles were already off the table. Waitress had zero sense of humor or happiness. Her negative attitude was apparent in her face and actions. She was probably the rudest waitress I have seen, and for no reason. I know sometimes you give the staff at a Chinese restaurant a pass. Perhaps there is a language barrier or something. This however was beyond that. The food was pretty good. I got the chicken a broccoli. The sauce was a bit too thick. The quality was okay, but not phenomenal. At the end of the night, the waitress started pulling plates and stuff off the table without asking if we were done. There was still about 10 minutes before closing when we left. They were just rude, and the behavior was condoned. Northampton has allot of good restaurants. Next time in town I will avoid this place. I have never felt the need to leave a review on any business, especially a bad one, but after tonight I had to. I went with 2 co-workers tonight and had the oddest experience. Our server was very nice, the atmosphere was nice and the food was good, EXCEPT my spicy tuna roll. I informed our server I didn't care for it as it was warm and very "fishy" tasting (sushi folks you know what I mean) Instead of apologizing and removing it from the table I got the 3rd degree as to why I did not like it. "Have you not had sushi before", "Have you not had spicy tuna before", "Have you been here before" and finally, and what should have given me a preview of what was to come, "Do you want to box it and take it home?" WHAT!!?? I just said it was gross..WHY would I want to take it home. Cut to the check coming and she left the charge on there! I told her I didn't feel like I should have been charged and she told me "sorry I can't remove it" Since I was with co-workers I didn't want to make a scene and it was only $4.95..but on principal alone I wanted to. Terrible! Don't waste your time. Service is awful and the food is not even good. Our waiter was so rude the whole time. I ordered chicken tempura and got shrimp. When I told the waiter he argued with me and kept saying its chicken. Finally he took it back but gave me such attitude. He returned from kitchen and said "you were right it was shrimp". I was impressed by the sushi lunch specials. A green salad with ginger dressing, miso soup, and 2 maki rolls for under $8?? That is a value. Unlike other restaurants' lunch specials, Teapot's roll combo special allows for a choice from about a dozen different types of rolls. The sushi was very tasty, as was everything else. I don't know where they get their ice cream from, or if they make it in house, but both the green tea and mango ice creams were incredible (I don't even like green tea ice cream). The more expensive specialty maki rolls looked amazing too, but I didn't personally sample any of them. The place is a little on the pricey side, so come for the lunch specials and you'll get a good meal with some change left in your pocket. read more

Our waiter was an older man that refused to say anything to us except "Yup" No matter how hard I tried he would not make eye contact or say anything additional. He practically threw our food on the table. At the end I was about to leave barely any tip (something I have only done one other time in my life) and they sent a younger, friendlier woman to take our check who had never even helped us. I had not been in this restaurant for a few years; I had given it a soft ban because the last several times I went, I noticed how dirty it was, especially the floors. I suddenly found myself one day on Northampton's Main St. looking for a place to lunch. Increasingly and worrisome, more of the good Northampton restaurants are cutting back either on staffing during lunch, having a 2 or 3-hr. delay between lunch and dinner, starting at 5pm (Sorry, that great parking space you just found at 4:30pm will do you no good!), or just doing away with lunch completely. So here I was standing mid-Main St. and thought, well, maybe I should try Teapot again. The dirty unswept floor has now been replaced by carpeting, so it's harder to see what's down there. I surveyed the place just past noon and we were only the second group to enter; others eventually came in filling up the place by half. All these folks were served by what we could see by one chef, one person on the register, and one rather officious but sharp waitress. Our soup was served promptly. Our appetizer was fine except the serving tongs were sticky. Our lunch entree was adequate though I did have to add full-salt soy sauce, something I do not usually do. We had to wait a bit to get our leftovers boxed, and then even longer to get our check processed. The waitress never came over to ask how everything was. Too bad for her, because she was so officious and hurried she forgot to add my appetizer to the bill! Were it not for the circumstances, I don't think I would necessarily recommend this place. The food is actually a bit below Northampton's average, and you can find better just steps away - if they are open at lunch time! read more

We hadn't eaten at this restaurant for a while so we decided to order takeout. We ordered basic fare, plus a fish dish which was one of their specialities. The food was inedible. It was floating in oil, the mu shi had too much seasoning and tasted burned, the sushi roll tasted like gas station sushi, and the fish in the fish dish wasn't fresh tasting. We threw most of it out. Ordered over the phone and the woman that took my call was very rude and impatient. Ordered the pad thai and it tasted nothing like pad thai is supposed to taste. It also was very oily and it had a lump of seasoning inside (if that's even what that was, because at that point I stopped eating.) Not good. Sushi from here is okay. 3/5 stars maximum. My girl friend and I ordered take out her a pupu platter for 2 and I got pan fried dumplings along with a long hair. We were disgusted by this and called back to get very rude service. We were told we would get a new order which never happened and the pupu platter all tasted like shrimp or fish. The food there is not very appetizing to me any more. read more

The first time I went to Teapot was with a large group of friends because it seemed like a popular place a good for a large group. I have to say that the service is veryy good.. but the food is not. I had gotten sushi for the first time in my life there and was so reluctant to try it again elsewhere after that experience (however now I am a huge sushi person). I ordered a simple vegetable roll and it tasted STRONGLY like fish (there was not any roe or anything on it, just carrot, cucumber and seseme seeds). The next time I went to Teapot was, again, with a group of friends and I decided to go the simple route, staying away from the sushi, and get miso soup, salad and dumplings. You can't really mess up the soup or salad but the dumplings were awful. They were pretty much only made up of the puffy breading with hardly any filling and they tasted like they were fried from a frozen bag you buy in the grocery store. Needless to say, no good. As I said before, the service was very good and the waiters were friendly both times I had been there. They also keep the windows open in the summertime, which makes a nice atmosphere. read more
