Ok I came in because all ive been hearing from my sister is tea top is her favorite. I usually go to new boba shop places. But she's very loyal and picky for the flavor of the tea. Specifically the milk sun moon lake tea. She loved it in Taiwan and loves it even more in Fremont here. I ordered a milk tea red bean drink - super yummy, and a sun moon lake black tea thinking it was the one with milk. I couldn't see the milk part on the first menu. When I picked it up, my order was correct but hers was just the plain black tea. I had to go back and reorder it with the boss. Good customer service and super kind enough to remake it!!! And happy I got to bring back my sister her order. Which she's the one who wanted Tea Top for their the specific Taiwanese sun moon lake milk black tea in the 1st place. read more

Final Thoughts: 2.00/5.00 After dinner, my friend and I went to get boba at the shop a few doors down. Perhaps we should have chosen somewhere else. My friend said that his coworkers will go here sometimes and they seem to like it. To each their own. I have personally had better, but I'll try anything once. Overall, will be a 2 star for me today. Drinks: Matcha Latte: 1.5/5 Very interesting how this place has fairly high marks and reviews. Maybe because their other drinks are better? I chose this drink today because I've very much gotten into matcha. This drink was not for me though. First look gave me that sense too. Lovely layering, but it was when it was mixed did I really see it. My one note is the amount of milk that is added to this drink. When it comes to matcha drinks, I find that less is more with the base. This drink just had so much milk and ice at the bottom and it completely dilutes the matcha. Had this matcha been in a little less milk, it may have been better. This also dulls out the color of it and makes the drink itself unappealing when it's mixed. This drink is super grainy at the bottom and I tried to mix it more, but that really didn't help. Sweetness was alright. Again, flavor of it was just the milk, so I can't say too much of the matcha since it drowned out. Grapefruit Green Tea with Crushed Ice: 3.0/5 This was my friend's drink and I tried it for my review purposes. This was the better option of the two. The grapefruit and tea drink itself was very refreshing. Sweetness was good. Something about the crushed ice made it better. I honestly don't think this drink would be the same with the regular cubed large ice. The crushed ice was also mixed in with the grapefruit pulp at the top too. I like that addition of the grapefruit because of it's natural flavor and that texture from it. Grapefruit can be slightly bitter, but I actually like it that subtle bitterness with the sweetness and tartness in it. The green tea is a good option to have with think drink because it's very light and doesn't overpower the remainder of the drink. Sweetness was good for me. Definitely more of a passing drink than the drink option that I chose today. Menu: Good enough variety Again, looks to be your standard boba shop menu. There are a fair amount of items on their menu for you to choose from though. Perhaps their fruit teas would have been the better option for me here. I thought my friend's drink was really refreshing and appropriate for the weather at the time. --------- Quality: So-so The matcha really doesn't look like my ceremonial grade matcha powder. Slightly oxidized and dulled out green color. This might be because it looked completely diluted, but maybe not. What gets me was how grainy it was too. Now, looking at my friend's drink, I liked the grapefruit pulp and the use of the natural fruit inside the drink. So, will depend on what you get and your preferences. Price: Average Truly your average Bay Area prices for these drinks and what they are. The price will range from $5 to $8, so really within that standard boba drink price here. Service: Friendly They greeted us when we walked into the shop and they were also really quick to make the drink. I noticed the person making the drink come to the front too to see what we would order and he started making it right after we paid for the drinks. Loving the quick service. There wasn't many groups ahead of us, so he was able to do this. I'm sure they try their best to keep up and make it quickly to order though, which I appreciate. Ambiance: Standard boba shop The interior is giving your very standard boba shop and smell. There are a few tables on the side and the counter on the other side. I think this would be a nice studying stop or charting spot because it seems very peaceful. Location/Parking: Long Plaza; Optimal Parking Spaces This area is on Cedar Blvd. The plaza itself is quite long and made up of sections of buildings. All of it seems to be connected though, so there are parking spaces. Doesn't seem like it was super super saturated of an area during the time, so my friend and I were able to park close by. I rarely go to Tea Top because I never remember that they exist but every time I get a drink from here, I always wonder why because the drinks are solid. The workers (I didn't catch their names but it was a young woman and man) were so incredibly sweet with customizations and explaining different drinks since they have an extensive menu. Their drinks run a bit sweet even though I usually get 100% sweet at all the other boba shops so if you're similar, I recommend at least reducing to 80%. They're currently running a BOGO 50% M-W for the first 50 customers. I'm not sure how long it'll last, but it's definitely a great deal and I'll try to visit as often as I can. Got the Earl Grey Milk Tea w/ 3Q, but removed the grass jelly. Earl Grey is a rare find at milk tea shops so had to try. The flavor is very light, almost a little more watered down. Still enjoyable and the standard size is pretty large. Nothing stood out with the boba and lychee jelly, but I did like the combination with the tea. Price is reasonable compared to most places these days. Vibes felt very nostalgic and simple. They have a student discount for 10% off and a punch card system as well which is nice. TeaTop is a nice boba shop in a plaza with many other Asian restaurants, making it the perfect snack or dessert shop after a meal. I couldn't resist trying a drink and picked up the Panda Milk Tea, since it was on a 15% discount. The boba was fresh and just the right texture, not too chewy and not too hard, but at 30% sugar was a still too much for me. Upon leaving, I noticed that the staff member never applied the 15% discount promotion that they had going on. Rather than calmly correcting the error, he made the most disgruntled face and opened the cash register, flinging a couple coins at me - nowhere near 15%. I like how the cashier always offers a stamp card without me asking. The stamp card is only for this Newark store, and it is buy 10, get one free. Based on going here more than four times in the evening, there is lots of empty seating inside, and it was easy to find free parking in the lot. With signage up about their origins from a premium tea brewing business, I expected my drink to have high quality tea taste to compliment fresh fruit flavors. This was sadly not the case. I ordered the Passion Green Tea Medley, which I had high hopes for as it is listed as one of TeaTop's top 10 recommendations. The drink comes with lychee jelly and boba, which was very competitively priced for the size of the drink at just $5.95. Despite the aforementioned items, I found the drink to be too artificially sweet even at 30%. And the passion fruit taste to be artificial, rather than deriving from fresh passion juice. Overall, I found the drink just be to okay. There are definitely better options in the highly saturated boba market throughout the Newark/Fremont area. Prices are comparable to most boba places but when tax is added, it's on the pricier side and even cost more than my Starbucks drink! I'm not from East Bay so I'm not used to the higher sales tax rate. Since this place have minimal seating & most folks prob don't sit/dine-in, no hot foods, they should ask customers "for here or to go" as sales tax not due for "to go" drinks. They had mango pudding! Which I haven't seen before but didn't feel like it would've been a good option for my drink, but boy do I want to try that for a future drink. The green tea was refreshing and brewed well and they provided a light amount of ice which I actually appreciated as it kept my drink cold but didn't become a filler for my drink, I had a lot of grapefruit pulp and tea in my cup. Almost forgot to leave a review -- and that would've been a crime, because this place seriously deserves it. Hands down, this was the BEST tasting boba I've ever had in my life. I'm not even exaggerating -- I've had a lot of boba, but nothing even comes close to this. I love TeaTop. I do. My addiction started while we lived in Milpitas where we lived basically less than 5 min from the Milpitas location. Then when we moved away from it, it was definitely a sad time. This TeaTop is likely the closest one we have. Though arguably I think it takes about the same time to get here but maybe half the distance. Darn inside roads. I digress. L O C A T I O N TeaTop is located off of Cedar Blvd in the larger plaza right next to Newark Memorial High School. They have parking that's shared by all of the shops in the plaza. I easily found a spot right in front. I N S I D E They have a few tables inside that you can use. They do have free wifi as well. M E N U They have your standard menu with an oolong, darjeeling (black), sun moon lake (black), jasmine (green), and wintermelon teas. You can have this in a variety of ways like milk, fresh milk, and milk foam. They also have other speciality mixes and fruit teas. So why do I love TeaTop so much? For one single drink: #42 Milk Foam Sun Moon Lake Tea. I don't know what it is about this particular black tea that makes my taste buds sing. It's an assam black tea with floral and fruity notes, but all I can say is that it tastes like magic. Now I'm probably overselling this tea and some may think it's just normal. But to me...it's perfect. Recently we had the chance to taste a drink with boba and they had the medium sized boba which isn't the normal size I typically prefer. I like the large sized boba. It's not the tiny small ones but yeah...it was still cooked and sweetened well. Just wish they had the larger sized ones. Maybe it's just this location. S E R V I C E Superb and patient. I paid easily and afterwards needed to change the topping on one of the drinks and the sugar content on one and the person there was ever so sweet and kind and easily did the changes (*note* the drinks were not made yet except maybe the milk foam which only had the tea in the cup and he took it out to mix with some sweetener and then added back into the cup). They do have a frequent buyer card so make sure to pick one up. O V E R A L L This is my go-to for "crema" drinks aka milk foam drinks. It's also one of the rare boba shops with Sun Moon Lake Tea. I typically do not go here for drinks with boba or toppings but all their drinks have never really let me down. This is a boba shop for the tea. So if you're the type who likes a lot of different syrups then this is not your place. But if you do like tea like legit tea, their quality here is great and their milk drinks are creamier than other spots. Stopped by here on a Saturday evening since we were in the area for a birthday party. Located in a shopping village, parking was easy to find. I ordered the usual Earl Grey 3Q milk tea and it was on point! Sweetness and ice level was accurate in my opinion. Service was friendly and I didn't have to wait long for my drinks. They have a lot of posters showing their taro vs other places' taro and I was sold. What I didn't realize is that it's a taro milk tea, not a pure taro drink. It was a happy accident because their taro milk tea was delicious. Even with no sugar adjustment, it was the perfect level for me (not overly sweet; you could still taste the tea underneath).
