My wife and I bought a new Ford Explorer from Ted Russell Ford - Parkside Drive a couple of months ago. We traded in my wife's Subaru, and also traded in my Jeep which still had a lien on it. After the agreed upon price we got the payoff amount on my Jeep, which the dealership was to pay within 10 days. The payment was not made by the dealer within the 14 day window my credit union had given us, so I had to make the next loan payment. I contacted our salesman at Ted Russell and he apologized and said he would straighten it out. After another period (I think about 10-14 days) they finally submitted the Jeep's payoff to my credit union. Meanwhile, per diem had continued to accrue during the delay in paying off the Jeep so I asked our salesman to have the finance guy reimburse me that amount which I wouldn't have had to pay if they had paid off the Jeep within the initial 10 days like they promised. It has now been over two months, and after many emails, texts, phone calls and even a visit to the dealership they *STILL* have not reimbursed me the money they owe me. By my estimate it is only about $30 or so, but the point is they failed in their obligation to me. I had planned on buying my next truck from Ted Russell Ford, but this experience has really soured me on their dealership so we will find a different dealership outside the Ted Russell family for our next purchase. read more

BUYER BEWARE, DO NOT RECOMMEND I recently purchased a used vehicle from this dealership. Purchasing process was fine but the issues arise from their lack of transparency, communication, and willingly masking problems on a vehicle to "hot potato" expensive repairs onto the customer. During the test drive of the vehicle, it was established that there was significant road noise and vehicle vibration. The salesman claimed it was likely just a "flat spot" on the tire from sitting on the lot. Once we sat down I insisted that was more than a flat spot and I wanted a further diagnostic and complete rectification of that issue. The salesman said they would do a thorough multi-point inspection and road force balance of the tires to "make right for you bud". The next day I picked up the vehicle after its supposed repairs, and the issue is still present, with the addition of a front grill trim piece having become completely broken from its retaining clips on the bottom of the bumper and hanging loose. The service department appear to have used double sided adhesive strip to keep the trim piece in place, which started peeling off as I drove. I asked the service manager what happened here and got told "it wasn't us!". Fed up with this loud, sitting on top of a washing machine experience from what is a luxury vehicle, I took it to my local lexus dealership for a further diagnostic (with video) and repair estimate. They showed the rear wheel was physically BENT, and the damage to the front grill where someone had slammed it hard enough into something hard to break the retaining clips. I brought all this to the attention of the sales managers and general managers at Ted Russell Ford Parkside numerous times. Of the 27 calls and 9 voicemails I made to the dealership over the course of two weeks, I was able to reach a sales manager 2 times and received ZERO calls back after being reassured I would hear from them ASAP. They knowingly sold a car with a BENT wheel and front end grill damage, obfuscated the wheel damage by claiming it was a "flat spot" and then later saying it would just need an alignment, all while claiming it went through 2 multi point inspections (once when they received the car, once when I spoke up) and either MISSED an obviously BENT wheel, or simply didn't care. They also obfuscated a broken grill piece by essentially apply the old duct tape solution to hide the real damage, and when ALL of these problems were brought to senior leadership to rectify, they ignored all calls/voicemails. My father bought a truck here, my aunt bought a bronco here, and my mom wanted to get a vehicle here, but after this HORRIBLE customer service experience, I would never recommend ANYONE to buy any vehicle here or use their service department. read more

I had an appointment for Monday June 9 at 8:15. I delivered my Ford Econoline 350, 12 passenger van to have the front and rear climate control blowers replaced and an oil change. I hadn't heard anything by noon on Tuesday so I called to check the status. They had not looked at the van, but I was advised that it was just being transported to a bay for a diagnostic examination. I had not heard anything by Wednesday at noon so I called again. I was told they had not yet looked at the van but were just transporting it to a bay for a diagnostic examination. I told them they were no longer authorized to work on the van and that I would be picking it up the next day. A friend advised that he recently had a similar experience. One of the worst experiences buying a car I have ever had and I buy a lot of cars and have dealt with a lot of b.s. but they really are a NIGHTMARE. I bought a vehicle and had it shipped to California only to have it come off the trailer with a BLOWN TRANSMISSION and let me tell you that was only the start of the issues. 9 months later they still have no proof of title and FRAUDULENTLY SOLD me a vehicle and then sold the loan to Wells Fargo who also can't get them to provide proof of title. Now their saying they sent it to D.M.V. (which it was WRONG) D.M.V. and Welks Fargo both claim they can't get them on the phone and don't know what to do. Vehicle has already been sold now to 2 other parties since I traded it in on a brand new GMC. Guess this is what you get for being a GM guy dealing with FORD dealers, lol. The manager Kalvin finally 9 month later called me today to talk LOUD and OVER me and try punking me on the phone and when I told him he needs to learn better customer service and to LISTEN to his customers rather then TALK over them and YELL to me that he's correct. He then told me that obviously I'm an IDIOT and don't do this everyday for a living. Lol wow really. When I told him that actually we kinda do and that I've bought 5 other cars out of state just in the last 2 years and 2 during just this last 9 months and all of them sent the titles to whoever financed the loans i.e. in this case Wells Fargo. My first time here to service my Ranger. Upon arrival, I approached a Service Advisor and told him I was new. He explained where to go and how to get there. I walked in and immediately found the Service Advisor I had made an appointment with. He apologized for me not being met outside immediately as I drove up. (I didn't expect that, and it definitely did not impact my experience.) He wrote up the service (20K service, including oil change), ensured I was in the Ford computer system, explained everything to me, and set a time of 2PM to pick the truck up. My wife and I then walked through and around the dealership. It looks first class. There are plenty of seats inside and outside to sit, offering TV, quiet space, and even device-charging space. The Manager (not a salesperson) saw us walking around and quickly walked over to greet us. When we told him we were just looking around, he had a pleasant (not car-selling) conversation with us. I received a call right at 2PM to retrieve my truck. When we arrived a different Service Advisor approached me right away and offered to get my vehicle. While he was doing that, my original Service Advisor showed me his computer screen to verify with me that my truck, and extended warranty, were properly documented in the Ford computer system. He then walked me over to the cashier, who promptly processed my transaction, and added my Owner Advantage Rewards. (The whole service only cost me $18 after the Rewards were applied!) My first impression was a good one. I intend to use this dealership as long as I own the truck. read more

I have had two engagements with this dealership and I have have been very pleased on both occasions. The service writer was very polite, extremely helpful, and displayed the competency that I was expecting. Based on the end result of the work, the mechanics must be very good as well. My first experience was to have an issue resolved with my air conditioning and anti-skid controls. My second experience was just to have general maintenance and an oil change performed. Don't fall for this dealership's scumbag sales antics. They claim to provide a lifetime power train warranty, but when it comes time to actually have to cover something the third party warranty they bought finds a reason to deny the claim. In my case, my truck developed an oil leak in the timing belt cover, it's a rather costly repair. The warranty company denied the claim after several hours of deliberating by saying doing my own oil changes voided my warranty. Oil changes had absolutely nothing to do with this defect. But still, I provided receipts of every oil filter and oil I have ever purchased and put in the truck. Not a single manufacturer's warranty in the US prohibits DIY preventative maintenance. Several years ago I had a very bad experience where an oil change damaged my brand new car, ever since I've done my own, with top quality filters and full synthetic oil. The service department, and I assume the dealership in general has done nothing but wash their hands of this with nothing more than lip service and a $2,000 repair bill to cover on my own. I say I assume, because they refuse to return calls, which is not much worse than the warranty company refusing to give me the names of the employees I spoke to, and told me "well, you did get the warranty for free". Not sure what that has to do with it, but sure gives real insight into why they denied the claim. Again, avoid this dealership, their "warranty" isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Go somewhere else, there are too many good dealerships who do right by their customers and stand by their word. They had a beautiful facility to wait in. Shane handled my call and set me up with a great appointment time. Joey even drove me over to chick fil a so I could get something to eat. Needless to say I called Ray Varner in Clinton, while on the phone they were able to confirm they had the parts and made the appointment. BTW its Friday they still haven't called. There is a complete lack of communication from the Service Department at this Dealership! We brought our vehicle in at 8:30 this morning, waited over 2 hours for any information on what is causing a scraping sound coming from the wheel. I mean it can only be a few things! All our service rep would say is "they can't figure out what's wrong "! It's not complicated folks! So we finally gave up and got a ride home from a relative. We asked to be called as soon as they figured out what's wrong. By 2:00, we still had ZERO communication. We called and could only leave a message. By 3:15 we have still heard NOTHING! SERVICE DEPT. - RIP-OFF!!! Went in for a simple safety recall repair to the computer system and walked out with a $1,300 brake job that they made me feel was necessary. Called me and told me they were 'concerned about the condition of my brakes'. Called 2 hours later and now said that the calipers had frozen up and would not take the new pads. All in all, this cost me $1,300 and it took almost 9 HOURS !!!!! When I went to pick my truck up, I asked them "what would have happened if I said I didn't have enough money for that kind of repair".......their answer...."we would have put all of your old parts back on and sent you on your way"......it wasn't that bad, we were just making you aware of it. They did not clean the battery acid like they were supposed to. Also when I first got the car, I am 99.9% sure the salesperson, Jake, sat with me in the car to try to figure out what all the buttons did. We could not figure out what the dome light button did, so obviously it was not working. A week later I discover that it was definitely the dome light, and so I brought it in to have it repaired. Well, they wouldn't repair it because it wasn't covered by the warranty. So they are charging me to fix a problem that existed with the car in the first place? Ok... I just tried to buy a pair of wiper blades at the parkside dr location and left frustrated and without the new wiper blades. I waited in line at parts while employees were sitting around on the other side of the counter, finally got the parts and I was told to pay for them in service but I could take the blades with me. I walked to the Service Cashier to find him busy and then a service guy escorted another customer in front of me so that he could pay for a rental. Hey, I also have things to do. Then I ask for a copy of the Ford factory invoice that showed the X-Plan price of the truck. I never heard from her. I sent a second email and still no response. My 2nd time using their service department Parkside location and my last. Poor workmanship. Looks like they Skipped their checklist and failed to complete the job they were doing. Brought my F150 Platinum in for some maintenance, one of the items that was worked on was a leaky power steering pump. Not leaking badly mind you. Upon return of my vehicle and some light use, just on my 6 minutes to work and back commute. The vehicle threw the serpentine belt. Upon opening the hood I noticed a couple simple things out of sorts. Basic stuff, the "air tube" assembly was just laying in there, neither of the pipe clamps on either end were tightened at all, in fact they were all the way loose! Also the plastic shut off/defeat switch for my remote start system was broken, something I always check when I open and close the hood since it's a mostly plastic part. Sloppy I thought, maybe they were in a rush that day and didn't notice? I picked up a new belt, idler pulleys, and belt tensioner. As I was installing them I noticed that the old pulleys and tensioner were fine, and then saw something that really did not make me happy. THE POWER STEERING PULLEY WAS CUTTING INTO THE FRONT OF THE TIMING CHAIN COVER! THE PUMP THEY HAD SERVICED IS INSTALLED SO LOOSE THAT I CAN MOVE IT BY HAND! IN FACT ONLY 1 OF 4 BOLTS THAT HOLD THE POWER STEERING PUMP WERE EVEN INSTALLED! Either that or they were over torqued and stripped then fell out! These repairs were supposed to take a couple days. They didn't even get to my vehicle for the first couple days. It was a week before I got my truck back. A truck that was still in working order when I brought it in! Not what I expect from professionals. Unacceptable work especially for the premium price paid (over $2.6k for A/C repair, this and two gaskets) causing an unsafe condition. ***5/8/2018 UPDATE - I called the service department to explain the issue. I started calling at 8:15 and after leaving multiple messages with different people at two locations I was finally talking to someone at 10:30. I explained what happened to service rep Shane Dyer who set up the original repair and he told me that they couldn't do anything for me today because the Service department manager was out, and he would call back by tomorrow afternoon with what they would do. Will update you as things occur. Along with photos of any new work. ***5/9/2018 UPDATE- Today I didn't hear back from them by noon. OK.... So I decide to visit in person. The Service Manager must be Bigfoot, they say he exists but I've never actually seen him or talked to him. He's never there when I visit or call. But others claim he is real. So I did meet the assistant Service Manager, Rich Love. He said "sometimes we screw up, if we did we'll fix it". Sounds great! So he set me up with a tow company and I had the truck sent over at about noon. I asked about a rental and was told to give him a chance to get it in today and get it done now right away. Then if it had to go more than a day we'd be provided a rental. Shane called back that evening and left a voicemail. Said the received the vehicle but couldn't get it in the shop. He said he'd be in contact tomorrow just as soon as he found out the extent of what needs to be done to the vehicle.... OK, I guess you get another update tomorrow. read more

I just moved to Knoxville April 1st and after first visiting Ted Russel Ford, the competing dealership, I was dressed very casually but the salesman was helpful but finance manager blew me off...nevermind the fact I drove in with my $70k Cadillac Escalade, a detail lost on him, I was basically told I was bluffing and if I did not want to pay his price that he could not be flexible or offer options..that was the treatment of finance manager Mr. Denny. After that, I searched online and communicated with Cole at LC Ford. Sonny from TR Ford (Internet manager) did try and fix the situation after calling me and me voicing my concerns but ultimately, they just didn't do enough. The competition were more efficient and listened to what I wanted before coming in. When I arrived he was prepared and we made the deal on a 2013 Expedition in less than 30 minutes. It was the difference between how i was treated at LC vs TR Ford combined with the preparation and willingness to discuss options. I will be buying another car in the next 4 months and it will be at LC Ford again. My experience MAY NOT be the norm at TRm in fact I am fairly certain it was an anomaly BUT, none the less, it was a poor example and lost sale from a new resident who would have certainly bought more and spread the word. read more

Not good people here. I recently took a truck to Ted Russell Ford in Knoxville. It had a bad oil leak where I lost all the oil. I was able to add more and drive it to the shop. I was broken down out of town and needed help. Shane the assistant service manager saw this as an opportunity for a big sale instead. He gave me two quotes. One was over $7k and another was almost $9k. I told him I just needed the oil leak fixed. He told me the truck was really old and had to have a ton of work done. Most of the things he told me I needed done were things I have already replaced in the last few years. I spent a $1000 to get it towed home to my local Ford dealer Krause Family Ford of Woodstock. The repair cost was about $1600 and the truck is back on the road. Shane at Ted Russel Ford had an opportunity to help someone in need and instead tried to take advantage of my misfortune. It is my opinion that these are the worst kind of people you could possibly take your vehicle too. I wouldn't trust them to change a tire. read more

But, this seems to be in line with other Ford dealerships. The good news was that the service cost less here than other Ford Dealerships I've used. These guys gave me a $4,300 estimate for repairs. After to taking the truck to an independent shop I found that many of the suggested repairs were not even necessary. The truck is all fixed up now & running better than it has in years for $1,000 thanks to Bao's auto repair. I understand the dealer will almost always be higher and often for good reason. In this case I feel Ted Russell Ford was either straight-up dishonest or at the least too lazy to properly diagnose the problems.
