My husband and I joined another couple at Ted's Bulletin in Fairfax last Thursday night for dinner. We arrived at 7, and they did not seem to be overly busy. The decor is nice as was the waitstaff. That said, the service was not great. We didn't have to wait long to put in our drink and dinner order, but after the waitress brought us our drinks, we didn't see her again until our dinner was brought to us. Then we didn't see her until it was clear that we were done eating dinner. Maybe I'm spoiled by the restaurants in the GAR chain as their service can't be beaten. I just expected to be asked if we wanted drink refills, a check in to see how if what we ordered was good and correct, if we needed anything else, etc. Anyway, I enjoyed my Sammy sandwich but my husband said he was surprised at how tough his country fried steak was. This rating would be higher if it were not for the terrible service we received. I had heard nothing but good things about Ted's from those that had visited the DC locations so i decided to take my visiting sister's family. The food was all very good, but our server looked and acted miserable from the moment she introduced herself. We could barely hear her and I'm not sure she smiled once. The four of us who actually ordered full breakfasts had them delivered fairly timely but then we ended up waiting for my niece's poptart an additional 5-10 minutes. Our server never asked if we needed anything or how the food was. Additionally I never received the Bloody Mary I ordered. As the food was decent, I would probably come back here again for dinner just to see if this was a one time thing or if the service is consistently bad. read more

The food is always tasty, but the service was a bit off. My breakfast came without my sausage, so the waiter took my whole plate away and I had to sit and wait for my whole breakfast AGAIN while I watched my husband eat. We tried to flag down the waiter just b/c it was taking a while just for sausage to be put on my plate. I think they made me a whole other breakfast, which I would have been fine if they would have just brought my sausage separately. They took my breakfast off the bill, which makes me give them a better rating. read more

There are some really good dishes but in general it is just average. Not worth going out of your way or even waiting for a long period to eat there. I was excited when they were coming to Reston Town Center. I'd been to the one in DC. The food is good but slightly inconsistent. I'm a celiac and they have lots of gluten free options but then gave me a bun with gluten in it. Went for lunch and got in before it became very busy and noisy. Food was okay. I had a salad which was good but not "over the top great". The service was not good. Waiter got my drink order wrong- I asked for sweet tea, got unsweetened. Did not bring out "take home box" for my friend who specifically asked for it twice before her meal was ordered. Then had to ask for it again after her meal. No one offered refills on the drinks. The "runners" were better than the waiter. Not sure I would return again. read more

Its clear they ran out of ingredients or had two separate chefs making it. The chicken was dry as a bone (and barely any for $17-but thats good because I couldn't eat it). The pastas looked different mine was way too lemony and hers had no flavor, and the noodles even looked different. For $100 for a family, this place has gone downhill since opening, and prices gone up. Wont be going back. Very disappointing. I give this review 4 stars knowing that I will probably be changing it to 5 sometime soon. Overall, Ted's is a great experience and has a wide variety of food offerings with a classic/campy feel. It doesn't get much better than that. My only very slightly small qualm is that being in its location, the wait time is very erratic. I imagine this will change this the restaurant is relatively new in that area and growing pains in the service industry are totally normal. Despite that, the staff is very friendly and able to accommodate large parties if you don't mind being split up (often times we have to do 10 at one table and 4-6 at another, no biggie). One small piece of political drama. They were forced to change the name of one of their adult milk shakes from the dirty girl scout to a new name (that I can't remember, it's that forgettable). Word on the street is that it was not family friendly. I'll keep that in mind when looking for adult milkshakes for my young children? Delicious food! I recommend the pancakes (I had blueberry!), which comes with two eggs any style. The tomato soup was also very creamy and satisfying, as was the Chai Tea Late. This was my first visit to Ted's, after much anticipation, and they didn't disappoint. I went with a few friends after the Potomac River Running New Year's Day 5k for brunch. We called ahead and they had us seated in 10 minutes, despite the crowd. Our waiter, Sean, was excellent, again, despite the numerous tables he was serving simultaneously. My friends ordered omlettes (which I tried, and was also delicious), Crab Cake Benedict (which looked divine), and Nana's Beer Biscuits and Sausage Gravy (also looked yummy). My absolute favorite place to come to for Sunday Breakfast. You can't go wrong with the cinnamon roll that's the size of your head or the cheesy grits. The Ted tarts are excellent to take for a quick snack later in your day. We love sitting in Inga's section. She always greets us with a warm smile and coffee! So, we ducked in to Ted's because we were walking around looking for a place to eat. My husband got a chicken sandwich and I got a Caesar salad. There was weird smell to my salad and there was a sour after taste. I thought maybe my taste buds were off but no there was something wrong with the salad. I sent it back truly having lost my appetite. They brought me a new one out and it was fine but by then I didn't have an appetite anymore. I honestly think I was given an old salad because after I got home, I got very sick and didn't keep any of it down. Very disappointed with this joint. Stopped in for a quick bit for the family as we loved Matchbox and they are part of the same group. I ordered the Turkey Sandwich, the sandwich was dry and the bread stale. My kids ordered chicken tenders with ranch. The waiter was informed at the beginning of the meal that we DO NOT eat pork,..low and behold the ranch has bacon in it! Not a big deal if we would have been informed but nobody told us until my kids told me something was in the ranch. Why would you but bacon in the ranch anyway! So many people in this area have dietary restrictions..I asked to see a manager and was told he was too busy. He did not check on us until the food was braught(15 min). What can I say about Ted's that isn't cheesy....this place is phenomenal! I don't eat meat besides fish so I'm always curious about what kind of options are on the menu for me. Their veggie burger is SO good I don't even try to get anything else. Me and my bf always split the fish and chips and the veggie burger. Their fries are delicious and the portions are great! I'm always interested to see the portion sizes at different places/cities and Ted's does not disappoint. Their homemade pop tarts are also incredible! I have to either split one or take it home to finish bc they are a sweet treat but they're so yummy. I love the brown sugar cinnamon one! Next time I go to Ted's - which I'm sure will be very soon - I'm going to try their bloody mary, it looks awesome. My bf has tried multiple things on the menu and he hasn't had a bad thing yet. What's with all the Ted's haters?? I've been to the Ted's on Capitol Hill and loved it, and this one is just as good. And if the crowd in there on a Sunday night is any indication, I think the people of Northern Virginia agree with me. I arrived a little before 7pm and there was a 35-minute wait. I took a seat in the bar area while I waited, and soon enough, we were seated in their back room. The old movie playing on the big-screen and the newspapers as menus added to the charm. Our waiter was excellent - attentive without hovering, good sense of humor, and good suggestions on dinner choices. We got a few snacks to start off the meal - a peanut butter and bacon pop tart (made in-house), corned beef hash, and brussels sprouts with bacon and blue cheese. Everything was great, especially the sprouts. I had the Greek burger with a chicken breast instead of beef, and my friends both got the burgers (one got the Ted's Burgh and the other got the PB and bacon burger - it was that kind of night). We all loved our entrees. Then, at the end of the meal, our waiter brought us two free vanilla shakes! Apparently there had been some confusion in the kitchen and they ended up with some extras, so he brought them to us, on the house! The shakes were outstanding. We visited here for lunch after hearing a co worker rave about the homemade pop-tarts. The interior is gorgeous. It is like stepping back in to a 60's soda shop with plenty of seating. Today's menu consisted of a cup of Ted's World's Best Chicken Noodle soup (3$), the Reuben($15.99), and the Sloppiest Joe($12.79). Start with the soup, it had nice large carrots that were cooked with a slight crunch left (the way I like them) and what looked to be hand pulled chicken. Here is the let down, the noodles were thin and tasted like they came from a bag if not frozen. It was flavorless. There was a slight hint of chicken flavor in the broth but nothing else. On to the Reuben. The corned beef is shaved = messy. The plate was 1/3 Reuben and 2/3 hand cut fries, with 2 pickle chips. The Reuben needed more sauerkraut, period. Also if you advertise 'a pickle' with the meal then give a pickle spear not two chips. The Sloppiest Joe was very flavorful and there was enough to have had two sandwiches worth, yet they served it with only 1 toasted bun. I also had hand cut fries but my plate was more 1/3 fries. The cole slaw, was bland also. Most cole slaw's I have had contain celery seed, it adds a huge amount of flavor. It tasted more like shredded cabbage and mayo. We did get four of the pop-tarts to go as a treat at home. That review will have to come later. It seems that Ted's does breakfast and does it well. Although it was lunch time we saw more egg dishes coming out of the kitchen than typical lunch entrees, even though the menu boasts 9 different sandwiches. We plan to try Ted's again but for breakfast, as for lunch. I have had much better Reuben's and Chicken Noodle soup for a lot less $. read more

Ate here last night. I had a special drink (Lincoln something) and it was "ok" but not worth the hefty $10.25 it cost. My husband ordered a Pinot noir wine and he said it was terrific. I ordered a chicken and shrimp kabob and it was very bland.. Two small pieces of chicken and two shrimp ( and veggies). I was starving when I went home! My husband and son ordered the burgers and they said it was "ok" but Red Robin or Clyde's burgers were so much better. Son loved the milk shake and hubby loved the pop tart for dessert. Our server, Inga, was the BEST!!! Not only was the food and service amazing, the atmosphere was top notch and everyone was so friendly! I had the fried chicken (way more food than one person should eat) mashed potatoes and corn, and my wife had the Deluxe Grilled cheese sandwich (macaroni and cheese with short ribs) and the most incredible Brussels sprouts. The cornbread here is this deep fried delicacy that tastes like pound cake! AWESOME!!! read more

We checked out this place on a Sunday afternoon. I had the fish and tots and my husband had their Ruben. The tots are to die for. I will say there was a very slight burnt taste to them, I don't know if that was just our batch but it didn't stop us from devouring them. The fish was just ok. I don't recall what type of fish they used but to me it just wasn't the best fried. It didn't taste bad, but it wouldn't be a reorder for me. My husband however did really enjoy his sandwich. We also got one of each flavor of their home made pop tarts and they were amazing. The bacon and peanut butter one I was a bit disappointed with. The combo just didn't work for us. But the berry flavor and the pecan pie flavor was awesome. They were even good the next day. The atmosphere is is really fun and I loved the old classroom seats they had. I thought it the back in the day touches were very unique with out being over the top. I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit. read more
