They were unable to fix my problem, but they were honest about it and gave me a suggestion on where to go. They didn't charge me a dime for the work they did trying to fix the issues, plus i wound up with a free oil change. I am so happy I found this place! I am new to Arizona and m car needed maintenance. I went in for an oil change and I told them I heard a weird sound and they checked it out for me. It ended up being a really big deal and said it would take three hours. I said okay do it and one of them gave me a ride home! It was so nice of them. He said he would call me when my car was ready. Exactly three hours later, he called me and offered to come pick me up to take me to my car. What service! I highly recommend this place. I already gave the number to one of my friends! I recently took my vehicle to TAR because my check engine light was on and my vehicle would everyone once in a while would idle rough after a warm start. I took my vehicle in on a Friday. I was called and advised what the repair cost would be (not too bad actually), however, told that one part is a little bit difficult to get a hold of at the moment. So I told them that I could pick up the vehicle tomorrow if not getting the part in time to finish the repair today. I was called a few hours earlier that the vehicle repair is complete. I have not had an issue since and that was a few weeks ago. They were honest and upfront about the repair cost and the possibility of the repair not being completed the same day and repaired the issue. Therefore, I highly recommend them! read more

We love Tempe Auto Repair! They are what a repair shop should be - honest, fast, helpful, competent, and service oriented. I have been in many times to diagnose a problem and it goes like this: I walk in and tell them what is going on with the car, if I tell them I want to wait for it they immediately send someone out to go bring it in and check out the car, about 5-10 minutes later someone is back up at the front desk to tell me their diagnosis and cost estimate. Then if I want to go through with the repair: they have it fixed within the day. And they always beat everyone else's prices. Before I became a permanent customer, I called around to several shops to price things and T.A.R. always had the best price. AND here's the kicker - if I don't want them to fix it, they send me on my way with NO CHARGE for diagnosing. Every time. We are so impressed and pleased with their service - we will always take our car to them! And recommend them to our friends and family. They often throw in little freebies with their work (like topping off our freon for free, etc.). They get you in and out quickly. They do the job right. They are courteous and friendly and honest. Great service! Service was done in record time while I waited and for a good price. I had an issue with my battery and cables and it was the end of the day so they were closing. I'm sure they all wanted to leave, but they knew I might have been stranded and they were respectful of my time. I don't want to have to come back the next day or find someplace that was open late. My truck failed emissions so I had to take care of it, calling here was my biggest mistake. Charged me 200$ for a gas cap, and another 200$ for a thermometer/ temperature gauge. I was in and out during lunch time for an oil change and was very impressed. Jim, who greeted me, was very helpful and cordial in getting me set up with with what I needed. In the waiting room there is AC and there are ice cold waters as well as magazines to kill time with. Overall I was pleased with my experience and will be returning back for any issues that I have with my car along with regular check ups. I have been coming to this auto repair shop for 1-2 years now and until now I've been very happy with the service. I took my truck in there two weeks ago for a fairly simple fix and they wanted to charge me an arm and a leg for all these extra parts that weren't necessary. I paid the extremely pricey amount and got on with my day. This time I went in there for a misfire in cylinder 4 and needed new spark plugs and wires. Now I'm not expert with cars but I know darn sure that switching the spark plugs and wires is a simple process that can be done in about an hour. These gents wanted to charge me almost $11 for each spark plug ($6.50 retail) and $75 for the wire kit which runs about $50 normally. Now I understand that you've got to charge a premium when you're at the auto body shop but the labor cost is what made me sick. They charged me 2.5 hours of labor ($98/hr) just to switch out the plugs and wires. That is an absolute joke! These guys do good work but they screw you on the labor costs. Be mindful. Needless to say, I will never go back to this shop again. read more

I was nervous being new to the area and finding a car shop that is not sketchy. I started going to this place for oil changes years ago, and other maintenance and have been very happy with them! I replaced my AC a year ago and even though I had to drive back a couple times because it wasn't working at first at least it was just small things they forgot to do before giving it to me, and sometimes the oil stickers they put on windshield has wrong info. When the AC wasn't working they were happy to take a look and see what they missed without complaints. Not perfect experience but at least they aren't scamming me, they give me good recommendations, and have good prices. I have had only minor errors on their part but honestly they are a great auto shop and everyone makes mistakes, it's just obvious that they will not make a large mistake. When there is a mistake it is not a hassle to get them to re-evaluate the car for me and that is what I like. I trust this shop, and have had seriously bad experiences with others and I am very happy to find a trustworthy shop in the area. Very nice people too read more

Made an appointment the day before--guy said an oil change/tire rotation would take about an hour--showed up on time and they were done in 30 minutes and for $30. Went in today after noticing a clinking sound on my Jeep. They were very busy and Vincent asked if I could come back in an hour and a half. Killed some time at REI nearby and went back in an hour and they were able to fit me right in and get me on a lift to check things out. Within 10 minutes had my Jeep off the lift and fixed. Swaybar attachments were loose on both ends so they tightened me up and Vincent handed me my keys and said no charge!! What a way to make my weekend. I have gone to these guys before and was treated extremely nice, they are very fair, no BS, which is very hard to find in this industry. In the constant quest for a car repair shop, a friend of mine referred us to Tempe Auto Repair. This is the third or fourth place I have tried in the area. The owner, Bill, greeted us and did an estimate right away, which I really appreciated it. I hate when they take your car, search for problems, and call you with the total ransom while they hold your car hostage. Bill appeared to be honest and forthright. The cost of the work (some brake repair) was substantially less than similar work I had done 5 years ago. He also took off 10% for being a new customer, and the work was done in 3 hours. In short, I felt very confident and comfortable with the service we received there. They already told my husband they would look at his truck for free for an estimate! I definitely plan on going again (hopefully not anytime soon :) )and referring it to others! read more

He was struggling with the papers and his keys and he apologized and was talking about he had open heart surgery very recently and after hearing that, the people at Tempe Auto Repair said that his bill was on them and that he didn't owe them anything and to have a good recovery. I found these guys quite by accident in the 90's and have been using them ever since. Like the dealerships, their mechanics DO work on commission. UNLIKE the dealerships, their mechanics do NOT get commissions on parts, so they're not likely to bend you over, selling you parts you don't need! Also, if you have an idea of what needs to be done, they can look up the labor charges on the spot and give you a quote. (Unlike the dealerships, who always want to have it in for a "diagnostic" and charge you for an hour of labor right off the bat!) Bill and Jake are GREAT guys to deal with! read more

I brought my truck in for running rough, no power, and a check engine light. Two hours later they called me and told me what was wrong with the truck. Gave me the price to fix it. I had to take the car in for a relatively straightforward problem today; its engine wouldn't turn over. I called Tempe Auto Repair on the phone before going in and got an estimate on what I thought the likely fix would be. Unlike the other shops I called, they didn't balk at talking hypotheticals or prices; in fact, the price I ended up paying was exactly what they quoted me, down to the dollar. That in itself I found noteworthy. Even more amazing, the price was 30% less than what a nearby shop quoted and every time Tempe Auto Repair said they would do something within a certain amount of time, they did exactly that. I had my car back within two and a half hours, and I was floored by how punctual, straight-forward, and easy everything was. My repair was on the simple side; any shop out there could have done it. I have been going to Tempe Auto Repair for a few years now. Id like to preface this by saying that my parents own a car shop and i worked in it doing oil changes and simple mechanic work for years. I trust Tempe Auto Repair. They have entertained all my questions and i usually learn something new every time i go there. Today i got an oil change and had a few things looked at. When i called to see that i was done, it was. Also Jim told me that they changed my air filter and it was only $10. I was skeptical because usually air filters cost a bit more ($20-$30) so i asked why they only charged me $10. (Also i was reading some google reviews, im going to leave one on google as well) They told me my truck was old and that prices drop. They were just passing the savings down to thw customer. Still skeptical i checked it in the parking lot and lo and behold there was a brand new white as snow air filter. Also the oil level was correct and i trust that everything else i asked them checked was in fact checked. I had them check my rear brakes, transfer case, and rear differential. No wonder why this guys receive 5 star reviews constantly. We went with them to have our brakes checked prepared to pay at least $20 ( what other shops were asking for such service). Their service took like 30 mins and they provided an estimate of the status of the brakes as well as how long we could go with them before changing them without damaging the rotors or anything else.
