Mediocre food - overly salted gnocchi w/mussels, bland pasta sauce, and fish was poorly deboned. Waitress was rude.

The owner is so kind. They were not quite ready to open but he could tell we were very hungry and he seated us right away. We ordered lasagna and caprese salad and told him we were sharing. He brought it on2 plates. I highly recommend. read more

Food was good but service was unacceptable. They were understaffed by easily 3 people. We put in our orders for appetizers and drinks and the waiter pressured us to order our main as well. For example (one of many), took 3 try's before we received bread (which they charged 2€ for.) it wasn't just us; I observed other people mildly irritated as well. at the end they served us a liquor over ice 'on the house' that was undrinkable. (Undrinkable not just to my husband and I, but also the 2 other couples sitting nearby.). It's too bad because the food was good and the waiters that were there were friendly- just looks like they were habitually understaffed. Skip this one. read more

What a great experience! We had just spent a full day sightseeing. We were beat! We just wanted a light meal and return to the hotel. We came in and ask for wine and a light meal. The waiter started to hand us a menu, I told him no, just serve us what you would want if you were tired and hungry. He started laughing and told us we had come to the right place. We were family. He quickly returned with wine, bread, and some dipping oil. In just a few minutes, my wife was served a shrimp fettuccine entree, and my surprise was a spicy fish spaghetti. Both were amazingly delicious. Truly a memory of Roma we will not forget. As we were leaving, he gave us little souvenirs from his restaurant and thanked us for coming in. read more

Food is a celebration of life in Roma. I was blown away by the culture, service, and certainly the food. At Tempio di Bacco I had samples of the dishes below. Fettuccine gamberi e zucchine Pasta cacio e pepe Tagliolini all'astice Ravioli ricotta e spinaci The waiters put on a show and make you feel at home. Do not miss the desserts! Typical Italian restaurant, with nothing extraordinary, but quality food. Nice and kind waiters, joking all the time and smiling. If you order pasta with seafood or risotto - you won't find much of seafood there, just few shrimps were in ours. That's the only thing I didn't like. But according to their prices they couldn't put more in there. Desserts were good. Most of the clients are tourists, a lot of Americans. No wonder- there is a ton of hotels in the area, like Westin etc. If you are tired, don't won't to go anywhere far and not too picky, that's an option. But considering that you are in Rome- there are a lot of delicious places deserving to be visited more than this one. read more

We were met by a crazy lady outside the restaurant yelling at us in Italian. I'm thinking that she was actually warning us of the experience that awaited us inside. We were seated quickly as the restaurant only had two other tables occupied. We ordered water for the table and I asked if they could make two vodka martinis- the waitress said yes. What showed up at the table was ice, a lemon slice, and what can best be described as something that tasted like powdered lemonade served in a wine glass. My wife and I laughed it off as I couldn't imagine being able to explain what was wrong with the comically incorrect drinks. We ordered a meat and cheese plate- the cheese was good but the meat was along the lines of cold cuts from a supermarket. The portion was also incredibly small for what they charge. On to the pasta dishes: both pastas were overcooked to the point of being mushy. Mine was seasoned well... best described as edible, but my daughter's acio de Pepe wasn't good. She left 90% of it on her plate. The lamb and French fries were good. The Caesar salad was a joke- iceberg lettuce and what tasted like bottled French dressing with croutons and grated cheese. We had to find our waitress to get our check and when she came to the table she asked if the food we didn't eat wasn't good. We told her what was wrong with everything- she came back with the bill for everything and not so much as an apology. The worst 98€ I've ever spent. Do yourself a favor: skip this place. It's depressing and the food is shockingly bad. We've spent 5 days in Rome and hadn't found a bad meal the entire time until this visit. read more

This place was recommended to us by our hotel, the lovely Westin Excelsior. However, this was the first and last recommendation we took from them. At first, the owner, a gruff-looking, aggressive but somewhat charming owner seemed gracious. He recommended a few things and we ended up ordering a Caprese Salad, Pasta Vignole, and Pasta D'ameratisce. The caprese was good but basic. The pasta we ordered was al dente (I.e. hard and chewy), which was fine. But it lacked adequate meat and was way too salty. I would have given this place a higher rating except for two things: We committed what was probably considered a faux pas and asked for butter for our bread. The servers and the aforementioned owner spoke about us ordering butter in Italian and had a good laugh about it. Maybe it's because I have manners, but couldn't they laugh about it in the back and not three feet (literally) from our table? The server continued to make jokes about the butter throughout our meal. I mean, considering the basic, salty meals they offer, I'm not sure why they were so bothered--and felt the need to laugh at us throughout the lunch--because of the butter request. The second issue was the owner, the server, and their friends (approximately six men total), who were neither eating there nor appeared to work there, had a very loud and animated conversation right in front of us (again, about three feet from our table). They stood in a row, which made us feel like they were watching us eat. Any restaurant that doesn't recognize the lack of professionalism in that is a restaurant I absolutely cannot recommend. When we left, not a word from the owner or anyone. They were too busy having that loud and animated conversation. Considering the plethora of other delicious food choices in Rome, choose something other than this place. read more

Loved the tiramisu (one of the best I have ever had) and vegetable soup. I had a sleeping baby on me and the hostess was very kind to come discuss what vegetarian dishes I could order. I had to take things to go - and she packed everything perfectly even though it was so crowded! read more

The restaurant was highly recommended by 2 different locals. We arrived at 7:00 pm and were immediately seated. The hostess/waiter was very gracious and kind. Her name is Christina and she is a pleasure. She went out of her way to help us with the menu and had the kitchen prepare spaghetti marinara for my 80 year old Mother-in-Law. The meal was good. I had the Cacio e' Pepe spaghetti and my husband had the Rigatoni Ragu. Both were delicious and the portions were large. Pasta was al dente and fresh. I had beef tips with pecorino cheese and porcini mushrooms and it was good. The beef tips were well cooked but had a bit of gristle and were a little tough. Joe had the Filet with green peppercorn sauce that was very, very good. My Mom-in-Law had the eggplant parmigiana and it was delicious. We had the house red that Christina recommended and it was lovely. The limoncello to finish with a touch of sweet. All in all, not the greatest meal ever but a very solid meal with a great staff to push the rating higher. I would go back read more

We arrived at the Tempio di Bacco after an eight hour flight and walked the streets starved for lunch. The host ( what seemed to be the owner) invited us in. The menu was in Italian so the host decided what we would have. A very typical Italian man brought out mozzarella , ravioli, their local favorite, along with eggplant and a nice bottle of Rosè. This was the worst example of Roman cuisine we could ask for. It was my roommates birthday and it was ruined because the food was awful- if I could put a zero I would. Neither of us are new to Rome or to the food here. She ordered a pasta ragu - simple. It was tasteless and terrible. I initially ordered a mushroom risotto per the manager's suggestion. It tasted like dirty water. I pointed that out so they added cheese- still not good. So they tried a pasta caccio e Pepe. Didn't realize you could screw that up. Worst recommendation from a reputable hotel (Westin Excelsior) - clearly the guy was getting a cut of some sort. Either way, avoid this place if you don't want Italian food ruined for you. read more

The Conciser at the Westin Excelsior recommended this to us. We tried it and it was fantastic. They treated us like family and made what we wanted even though it was not on the menu. Our waitress Alexandria was great, and even though we brought our own wine she knows a lot about wine. They corked our bottle for free. A great experience, and the food was very fresh. read more

Decent restaurant, no wow factor but still tasty food at a reasonable price.

This restaurant has authentic Italian food. I, personally, am not a big fan of desserts but LOVE their tiramisu (with decaf). It is about three layers of deliciousness! The waiter who was described in an earlier review (Reno) is a crack up. Very nice, funny and gives great service. This restaurant is open late which is so nice especially of you are from California where everything closes early. read more

Asked my concierge for a casual place to have lunch and was referred here. When asked if I wanted them to make reservations I said no. When we arrived at the restaurant less than 5 minutes later the host said you come from the Westin Hotel? So the concierge obviously called to let them know a couple was waling over.. When presented with the bill it did not have the customary V.A.T and tip included. Whatever the situation there was some kickback scheme going on with the concierge. The host/waiter was friendly. We had the pasta cacio e pepe and Lasagna which were both good. Sat on the "street patio with awning and plastic walls to keep the rain out.. There was a man smoking a cigar which made it impossible to stay for dessert. All considered I think there are many better places to eat. read more
