Came here for a good friend's birthday, ready to have a great time -- and instead got one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. The restaurant was barely 1/4 full, with two servers handling a handful of tables, yet somehow our party of 10 was treated like a burden from the moment we sat down. It took forever just to get drinks. I ordered a soda and was handed a baby-sized 7oz can for $3 -- not even a full glass, just a can. That's on me for not asking, but still, come on. They brought the wrong drinks more than once, then acted like we were the confused ones. No apologies, just attitude. When the food came out, it was chaos. Orders were wrong, no one knew what went where, and it felt like they were guessing. After that, the servers vanished. For a solid half hour, we couldn't get a single person's attention -- no water, no napkins, no refills, nothing. It was like we were invisible. They did bring out a birthday dessert, which was the one thoughtful moment -- and then they dipped again. When we were finally ready to pay, they said they could only split the check two ways. For a table of ten. So we scrambled to sort it ourselves, and even then they managed to mess that up. The food? Just okay. Nothing memorable. The service? A mess from start to finish. Tempo Cantina--what can I say? It was one hit and three strikes. The service was friendly and welcoming, but that was the highlight. We arrived at noon as a party of four and were one of only two tables occupied for nearly 1.5 hours. That should have been a red flag. The drinks looked interesting, with signature alcoholic options, but since none of us drink, I can't speak to those. However, the quiet atmosphere should've warned us. We ordered: * Asada Chilaquiles w/two sunny-side eggs ($17) - This was the best dish we had, but the portion was small. At least it landed on the good side of the experience. * Korean trio tacos ($12) - Sadly, no picture here, but they were very underwhelming. Yikes! * Duo shrimp and fish ceviche ($15) - This was way too lemony. A couple of avocado chunks are all I remember from it. * Asada taco and chicken enchilada combo ($16) - This came with beans and rice, which were just okay. The asada was decent, but the chicken was tough and nearly impossible to swallow. The restaurant is quite a drive from our home in Alhambra, meeting up with my sister and niece from Irvine for a midpoint lunch. The music is loud and I'd compare it to Javier's level, so if you come with a large party it's tough to hear people across the table. I had the carne asada plate and the meat was tender and really well seasoned. It also comes with a cheese enchilada that tasted good but was stuck to the board it was served on which made it a little awkward. The only real downside is if you order water then it comes in small plastic cups that are under 12 ounces. If your server is not on top of it you run out of water quickly. Stopped by for a weekday lunch. Got seated right away. The interior is hip with graffiti/neon decorations and lots of TVs. Got the carne asada chilaquiles (with red sauce) and a chorizo omelette. Great service and here's why... Had lunch with my work mates after our meeting. No crowded as expected. Our server Ashlee was fantastic. She knows all the drinks they offer and suggested what we should try. The Smoked Old Fashion was my first to see. And the taste is amazing. As for our appetizers, the pork belly is our usual order. We ordered the oyster mazatlan which was supposed to come with 6 oysters, but only came with 5. When I pointed it out to the waitress, first she said that it only came with 5 (but that was incorrect because the menu specifically said 6) and then she said that since the shells were big, they only give 5 (which was the dumbest reasoning I've ever heard). Then, when the bill came, she said that they took off $4.23 from the meal (due to the missing oyster); however, when I looked at the price, they changed us $26 for the oysters when the menu had it at $24. After this, we had to closely examine the bill to make sure nothing else was overcharged. Can't trust the restaurant after this experience. PS: The five oysters were the size of a pinky nail. Came to find this is definitely a fun restaurant to eat at. Dined in on a weekday at lunch hour and found the place empty, minus some quick foot traffic for lunch pick ups. I have driven by during evening/weekend hours and seen it pretty packed. The ample indoor and outdoor seating assists in the crowd, and they are staffed right for that crowd. Food was definitely good. Nothing to talk up and get too excited for, but good portions and tasty plates. The birria burrito I had was excellent. Packed with meat, filled me up with ease. The fries were plain but really just played the role of filling up the rest of the plate so it didnt look partially empty... I dont drink but hear their beverage choices are desirable. I dig the unique atmosphere of the whole place. The lights, color, and graffiti style decor is awesome. We ordered the crunchy shrimp sushi, which for a Mexican/tapas restaurant, was good. The miss was the salmon/rice/vegetable dish which was quite dry, unflavored, and not worth the price. Overall thought the quality of food was just average. Nothing really stood out. One extra star for the good service. Otherwise nothing else really to write of. Taco was not as flavorful. Today's experience was disappointing as management gave us an unwelcome experience. I have my service dog with me 24/7 and without asking we were led outside, while being too hot we asked to be sat inside and was denied without even asking us first. The ADA does not require service animals to wear a vest, ID tag, or specific harness. Which is why I know they didn't bother asking if he was my service dog. Although having his and mine service registration and certification on hand via digital ready to show proof the manager didn't even want to talk to us himself said no and denied service. Having a waitress come out stating he said "there's too many bathrooms"...without making a big deal of it we got up and left. Legally this should never happen. Walked in and ordered the 3 enchiladas plate and a sushi roll. My daughter was my guest and we wanted a cool place to talk and have something light. The food was great. No problem there. The waitress was NOT ok. She kept asking if we wanted to order more and then acted like she was rushing us. I asked for soy sauce for the roll. She said ok and did not bring it. My daughter later told me that the girl made a face and complained about it to a coworker. She also did not refill my drink. I was being nice and asked her some questions. I was a waiter in my youth so I wanted her to redeem herself. Instead I got no eye contact and a ln attitude like she was being bothered. I could have easily complained to the manager but that would have probably gotten her into trouble. I don't want her fired. I want her trained. For her own good. I did tip her, but as a man who travels and eats out a lot...especially in Brea. I won't be returning. Not worth it. My daughter is 26 and has done service before, she is very good and immediately noticed the attitude and rush job. Well Tempo in Brea. Get it together. It's tough out there. If you're looking for a trendy, loud, bar themed restaurant, with a huge drink selection with a young crowd I can see how this could be the spot. If you're looking for quality food and a nice ambiance, this isn't it.. We came in on a Friday night for dinner, from the photos on Yelp it seems that the restaurant has undergone some new changes. It was very dark, lit by black lights, with graffiti all over the walls and tables. There is a bar area as well as high top, table, and outdoor seating. The menu is huge, so if you're into a wide variety of Mexican and what seemed like Japanese fusion, this menu may appeal to you. It was a little overwhelming for me. Our server Jorge was very kind and attentive, thanks for your patience with us! We tried the asada fries, they were served in a cast iron skillet, covered in melted cheese and jalapeños, the asada was cut in small servings and the flavor was fine, but nothing exciting. We also tried the birria tacos and tortilla salad. We felt like the quality of meat was not what we were expecting.. the tortilla salad was underwhelming, covered in cheese and crema, which hid the welted lettuce plain rice. Tempo wasn't our thing, but I can see how many people may enjoy it. There were large parties, date nights, work friends, Tempo offered large menus of both food and drinks. Check their online menu to see if their selection appeals to you, but know the ambiance is one of a loud bar scene which can make it difficult to have a conversation over dinner. read more

Service is horrible. I ordered a cup of coffee before I ordered my food. The waitress took 25 minutes to get me my coffee. The food was made with no flavor. I had chilaquiles with rice and beans. I ask the waitress if the eggs can be mixed in the chilaquiles. She looked confused. A minute later she said yes. My plate was brought with NO egg in the chilaquiles. Mexican cuisine for lunch in Brea, California... We were supposed to have celebrated Cinco de Mayo on 5-5-23, but life happened and our plans didn't work out. My friend, Gloria, and I decided to meet the next day to make our dreams come true... Gloria sent me a list of a few places that seemed interesting. I thought that Tempo Cantina might be worth visiting. Tempo Cantina is a colorful, lively, hip restaurant. We parked for free in the shared lot and were greeted right away by the gal at the entrance. We didn't have reservations, but didn't need any at 11am on a Saturday. We viewed the menu via QR code. I thought that Korean Tacos would be good. I asked for spicy sauce on the side. The small cubes of fresh mango added a nice fruitiness to the roasted pork belly and red cabbage slaw. The double tortillas helped to hold everything together well.
