I absolutely love calling this place my home. When I first saw the listing for an open unit here, I was immediately intrigued... The design and architecture of the building looked bright, inviting and modern. The price was very reasonable for a practically new apartment in the middle of Koreatown, and the amenities checked all the right boxes: parking space, HUGE rooftop patio, in-unit washer/dryer, trash valet, etc. I decided to try my luck and inquired about the unit.
June responded almost immediately to set up a viewing. Seeing the building and space in person was incredible. Outside, the building stands out in the best possible way. The lobby was small but clean and welcoming with VERY high ceilings that you can't help but take a deep sigh of relief under. She took me up to the apartments where the stunning inner-courtyard was and I was speechless. I immediately started to picture myself walking out of my door every morning to be greeted by this gorgeous space. The apartment unit itself also boasted high ceilings (10') with an open common area and kitchen layout. The appliances were all still new and well-integrated into the space. The rooms were spacious with plenty of room for clothes and storage. I tried my best to hide my excitement, but I think June still noticed anyways.
Now, as someone who has lived in really crappy rentals in the past, I made sure that I had done my due diligence and researched the apartment extensively before coming, so I had questions. Admittedly, the reviews and comments on this very page gave me pause. The complaints about the security and the management stood out to me, as I'm sure they do to YOU reading this right now (It should be noted that at the time, the reviews were about 2 months old). But June got straight to the point. As the owner of the building, she had outsourced the management to a corporate company that had severely botched things up. But now, June had taken matters into her own hand and had quit her full-time job to take care of the residence in her building.
She showed me all the security measures she had installed since taking over, -- multiple cameras in all high traffic areas, a locked and coded package delivery room, gated entrance that automatically locks every evening, fob-activated stairway and elevator access from the lobby, just to name a few. Her determination to create a safe living space for all of her tenants was immediately felt, and needless to say, I was sold. June was also incredibly accommodating during our move-in process, which I cannot express enough gratitude for.
I've now lived here for a year and I still have nothing but good things to say about this place. The rooftop is perfect for parties or just for grilling when I don't want my kitchen to get all smoky. The location is great, perfect for food-fueled nights around Chapman Plaza, yet close enough to the freeway so I can get almost anywhere in LA in about 20 minutes (traffic permitting, of course). And on top of it all, I still see June every now and then around the building, always working on something or another to make this place feel a little more like home for all of us.
Actually, my one complaint is how loud the microwave beep sound is-- How the heck do you turn it down?? read more
