This used to be a great casual meet up spot for us, until I got sick. I was only drinking wine -- which we weren't sure if it was truly thick and funky or just our taste buds playing a trick -- and it was not a good night. Once upon a time, 10 Degrees was my go-to spot. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Whenever someone said they were headed to the East Village and didn't know where to go I immediately squealed "10 DEGREES HAS 2-for-1 DRINKS FROM NOON TO 8PM!" and that sealed the deal. I've been coming here for two years, but in the past eight months it's taken a turn for the worse. I'm wondering if it's because of Five Tacos next door, or the bistro around the corner, but it feels like the owners don't pay enough attention to 10 Degrees anymore. The food isn't as good as it used to be. The wait staff is usually rude. Even the bartenders, who were always so lovely, have been replaced by dbags who shout "You're cheap!" for wanting separate checks. One thing I always liked about 10 Degrees, apart from the drink deals and great food, was the atmosphere. Everyone was always so nice. I always met the best people there. More often than not I would get there after work around 6ish and not leave until 2am or later. It was always so much fun. Here's a perfect example of the type of person who drinks here now: My friends and I volunteer at an animal shelter on the weekends and today we decided to stop into 10 Degrees for lunch. We weren't planning on going there so we were still wearing our volunteer T-shirts. As we were leaving a 20-something-year-old girl stopped us and asked about the shirts. We explained. Her response? "F***ing weirdos." I rest my case. I know the neighborhood is changing (look at all the great places on Ave A that have closed down because their leases went up by so much) but 10 Degrees has lost its charm. read more

The portion is quite small, but good stuff. :) - Guac: portion is huge enough to be shared among 3-4. Comes with store-bought chips but it's still good! :) - Tomato Pasta: I actually liked it. I went here two nights ago to catch up with a friend who I hadn't seen in ages, and I'm so glad we chose this place. The vibe is very laid back. And even though it's a bit on the small side and there was a decent sized crowd, I didn't feel crowded. I was there on a Wednesday night, and the Happy Hour special was 2 for 1 -- for wine! Bonus points for that. A glass of pinot grigio was $9 (but since I was there around 7, it was two for $9). They also have some slammin' cheese and olive plates. $21 will get you a three plate combo, so we tried some sort of goat cheese, the 10-olive mix, and I believe some kind of smoked beef (I was a little tipsy at that point - it could have been anything) All in all, it's a cool vibe, not too loud, and the price is good for Manhattan. Based solely on the drink specials, I can't afford NOT to go there. I've been a handful of times for drinks and it never disappoints. Yes, the place gets crowded but come on, it's a bar in a lively neighborhood with a happy hour, so what exactly would you expect? Even when crowded, the service is still great and the drinks arrive quickly. My last trip there was this past Friday around 5. Shortly thereafter, every seat was full & the place was swinging. After a few drinks, I was feeling exceptionally carnivorous and ordered a meat (+cheese) plate. This was my first experience with food there and the spread was pretty good, and also included some fruit which was delish. Ok so maybe I've played it out a bit the last few months, but the 2 for 1 happy hour til 8pm EVERYDAY and half priced bottles of wine on Mondays is never a let down. They have a good selection of wines, cocktails, and beers. Even during happy hour, the specialty cocktails are strong. The vibe is cool yet laid back. I was here for happy hour. We got a table and service was mediocre at best. Maybe it's better at the bar. Drinks were not good. My friend did not like her red sangria. I ordered a raspberry caipirinha. It was not mixed well and all the raspberry puree stayed at the bottom of the glass. We decided to move on to mojitos. "Who can put a mojito on the drink list just to screw it up" - we thought. Worst mojitos that we have ever had in our lives. I've never had the issue of a strong drink being undrinkable, but that was really the case here. Avoid it. It tasted so bad! It tasted like a cleaning product. I guess it's a good deal for most people, with 2-for-1 drinks till 8 pm. I guess there are better options on the long menu. I guess you also need to order the right drink and sit at the bar for happy hour. There are too many variables and this place is definitely a no for me. Thinking about this place makes me smile. I went here on a first date and couldn't have picked a better spot. It was a bit crowded, but we managed to eventually score seats on one of the couches in front of the bar area. The set up is nice - stools up along the traditional bar area and then more comfy seating on several couches. There are tables in front of the couches so you can still eat even if you want to sit over there. They have all sorts of great specials. Mondays they have 1/2 price bottles of wine all night. Their daily happy hour is 2 for 1 from 12-8pm, and it includes their list of upper end cocktails. So while it shows as $10-$12 on the menu, in the end it's not a bad deal. I tried their Old Fashioned as well as their Manhattan. Both were quite good, but the Manhattan packed a lot of punch. Wowzahs. We also split their guacamole after watching another table eat theirs. I love this bar. Ever since I was introduced to it about 5 years ago this has been my go to place to meet friends. You can tell that many others have the same sentiment as I always see at least one first date happening here whenever I've been here. That means people find the place comfortable and the wait staff friendly. My St. Marks two step procedure always involves downing some dumplings at Dumpling Man farther down across the street and imbibing a mojito or a glass of Merlot at Ten Degrees. This place was only okay. Tapas were good but the price is a little high for Lower East Side. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio which was excellent, however, the service was so slow and terrible that by the time my tapas arrived on the table my wine was grossly warm. I was appalled that it took that long to slice a roll of bread, open a jar of olives and fan out 5 slices of cheese on a cheeseboard...give me a break! With its dimly lit rooms and open air bar, it would be a cute date spot except you wouldn't want to embarrass yourself for taking your sweetie to a place where the service was terrible. I absolutely wish that I could give this place a fair review based on the quality of cocktails (5 stars) and ambiance (4 stars), but alas, 'twas not to be. Let me first state that we did order food, but I cannot accurately assess the quality of the food served here because we left before it arrived. It was my first and last time here, and here's why: Our party had the unfortunate luck of interacting with the owner of the bar after an hour here on a Sunday afternoon. The owner, an older gentleman, who clearly graduated from Barnum & Bailey's Circus of Customer Service, commanded us to relocate our party so that he could accommodate a smaller group. His logic was, "Our seats are first come-first serve, and the rest of your group hasn't arrived yet." Well, there were five of us who were already drinking and had accrued a pretty respectable bar tab thus far, we were waiting for a sixth, and he was attempting to accommodate a smaller party, thus denying us an additional seat... So, yeah, your facial expression right now = ours at the time. The conversation escalated and he ultimately called my friend a "jerk" for not moving, and said "We should have known better, since he could've comped us a bunch of drinks." We reacted by telling him to take all of the seats, and exited, while his employees apologized to us. "I'm so sorry, he always does this. He's so difficult to work with," Our waitress said to us outside. Who suffers when an owner is unprofessional? His staff, of course. By the gentleman's own logic, and general rules of dining, if you don't have enough room to accommodate all of the guests, the later guests wait for seats to open. You don't acknowledge your original guest's wishes when seating them and then change your mind to make more money, an hour later. Not to mention, it's a bar, they could have simply remained standing. The mere fact that I'm even attempting to describe this situation is admittedly, ridiculous. It was an unnecessary and unfortunate situation. But I suspect that if the manager didn't approach people aggressively because they should somehow feel honored to be in his establishment, which is in a sea of other establishments, surrounded by other establishments... This review would be more positive. In a nutshell, if you know the owner's schedule and how to avoid him, come drink here. I'm not really sure how many people in this city go out looking to relocate their party and then be comped for drinks, but apparently, if that's your game--This is the bar for you. read more

Ten Degrees has arguably the BEST happy hour in all of Manhattan. The reason I say this is because every. single. drink. is two for one during happy hour. You're not limited to a cheap beer + shot combo like many other bars (which are great, sometimes, but I'm not always in the mood for that). The two for one even goes for bottles of wine (and they have a lot of good wines to choose from). They have several specialty cocktails that are worth the $10 price (again, Manhattan), so getting two for that price feels like a banging deal. Besides the happy hour deal, the other great thing about Ten Degrees is the staff. Let me backtrack and explain that a friend and I stumbled upon Ten Degrees just because we work in the area, and the two-for-one deal lured us inside. The service, however, has been consistently so amazing that it is now our weekly haunt. I've never been a barfly to the point of knowing bartenders' names, but this one dude has been so consistently rad that--not only do I know his name, but I signed up on yelp to write this very first review. Ryan is a Norse god-looking creature with a ready smile and even quicker drink pours. He's always friendly without seemingly like he's "working it" just for the tip (you know the type of bartender I'm talking about). He mixes delicious cocktails, and remembers details from your last conversation. He's everything you'd ever want in a bartender. (Also, I know I'm kind of gushing but just for perspective, I have a girlfriend and my friend is married, so it's not about his looks--that was just so if you go there, gentle reader, that you'd recognize his blonde, tall, built self). There is another bartender there whom I absolutely love as well, but at the time of writing I can't remember her name. Curses! The only reason I'm giving Ten Degrees 4 out of 5 stars is because although I LOVE this spot for weekly happy hours, it gets crazy packed on weekend nights. I know that's not their fault (in fact, it's good for the bar) but personally I hate crowded, loud spots. So if you're looking for an understated, chill, weekday happy hour spot, I can't recommend this place enough. And tip Ryan well for me, he deserves it :) read more

In an area flowing with creativity and artsy type of places, the elegant décor of 10 Degrees stood out and is what made us go inside. The mojito I ordered was really good but I think that wine would've been a better choice since it is a wine bar. We ordered some tapas which were taking way too long to be served. When we asked the guy behind the bar about the tapas, his unpleasant response was, "It takes awhile because we make it fresh". Huh? Are they trying to say that they make fresh cheese and olives?! If Back Forty is my favorite restaurant in NYC, then Ten Degrees is my favorite bar. I don't know what it is that keeps me coming back here, but I suppose it's the little things. The lighting is just right, the wine selection is varied and relatively affordable for NYC, the draught beer is always a staple, and the bouncer just sort of gives me a head nod when I walk in. Wait...all those things *are* awesome, but that's not the reason I keep coming back. It's the owner, Moti. Whenever I bring friends here, he always ensures that their drinks are made well and they have everything they need. I put a premium on service because you're paying for that premium when going out. And In a neighborhood of bars with some of the most acclaimed client service in NYC, Moti is king. I hesitate to bring dates here because I'm keeping this place as my own, but I'd call it the ideal date spot in NYC. This place become our favorite bar while in NY, as we probably came about three times during our week long stay. Their happy hour is till 8pm and is TWO FOR ONE, on everything and anything in the joint. Feeling baller and in the mood to drink some Cristal poured on diamonds? Yup, the Cristal is also part of the 2 for 1 deal. It sucks that I can't remember the bartender's name that attended us during out visits, but he was mad cool and a great mixologist. I'm usually one that is skeptical about what I'll be drinking whenever there's such a great happy hour deal involved, but these were delicious top-shelf cocktails. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to eat here. In addition to our cool ass bartender, the rest of the staff was very hospitable and made us tourists feel like a regular. Had a great experience hosting a private event here! We were able to reserve the back party room for a friend's party. Once I was able to find the venue (thanks Yelp!), the entire experience was very smooth. Moti, the owner, whom I'm sorry to say I didn't get to meet in person, was very professional and accommodating. He made himself available and was able to quickly answer all of our questions via email. We were able to go to the room early to decorate and set up the desserts. They made sure we were comfortable and happy with the setup of the room. The lights were brightened a little at our request and volume of the music was adjusted. They gave us one server to handle all of our drink and food orders. Amazingly, she managed to remember everyone's orders even though there must have been over a dozen credit card tabs and we were all circulating around the room. We had no trouble meeting our minimum on the group tab so this was a wonderfully affordable party as well. The 2 for 1 happy hour applies to parties too (if you're within those hours). The drinks were good and strong. Some people ordered food and were happy with their dishes. Us organizers were pleased with the party and most important of all, our friend was happy. For my 26th birthday, the goal was to find a laid back venue that charged no cover, was spacious enough for a group of 20-30 people, had the option of reserving a table without bottle service and was not a dive bar. Through much intensive Yelp research, I discovered Ten Degrees - a quaint East Village wine bar that met all of my criteria. I ended up reserving their private room. Although they don't require you to order bottles, the bar enforces a minimum room guarantee for the night (there is a cheaper minimum for parties outside the private room). I thought the dollar amount was quite reasonable considering the amount of people I had and everyone was able to settle their own tabs with the waitress, similar to how it would be if you were to order drinks from the bar. The picture of the private room is a bit brighter than what it actually is. The entire space is dimly lit. I actually prefer the decor of the outside bar more, maybe because of the holiday decorations in the private room that made it feel a bit outdated. What I did like about the room was that you have two private bathrooms and there were separate controls for the room's sound system. I was disappointed with the music at first but not surprised given the reviews I read. The lounge/jazz styled tunes were appropriate for the space but because I had a private room, I wanted more upbeat songs to dance to. There was a DJ that took requests and promised me he'd play more dance music later on in the night. He kept his word and towards the end of the night, there was a good mix of hip hop and dance songs. At the very end, a couple of us got on the tables outside and started dancing. Probably one of the biggest negatives about Ten Degrees is the food. We ordered a french onion soup that lacked cheese and a molten chocolate lava cake that was average. All in all, I think this place is a really good choice for someone looking for a private event space. Moti the event coordinator was easy to work with and accomodating. This is my favorite happy hour place in Manhattan. And I'm a girl who loves a good happy hour. The drink deal is fantastic, particularly if you like to experiment with your drinks a bit more. Their cocktail list is extensive and includes a mean French 75-- my personal favorite. All drinks are 2 for 1 until 8 PM, which means you can have two well-made drinks for about ~$12. I've never eaten there, but boy are their drinks strong and tasty! I'm also a sucker for the ambiance of Ten Degrees. I love the seating area in the front, especially in the warmer months when they keep the front windows open. I'm also a fan of the lighting/light fixtures...they cast the perfect glow on the youngish, trendyish crowd. In my opinion, this is a "good for anything" kind of bar: dates, girls night out, jumping-off point. Makes me realllllly wish I lived in the East Village. read more

I chose to come here because they are a place that serves wine open to 4am, even during the week. A rarity even in Manhattan. This place seems to be known as a bar that focuses on a wine, but I didn't think the list was incredibly impressive. They did have some options though, but I'd expect a few more nicer bottles from a wine list. The atmosphere is very loud, dark, and crowded. The darkness makes it difficult to actually enjoy the wine. Maybe it is best to come during the day. I do like their happy hour specials though I have never made it for happy hour. And there is a 2002 Dom Perignon on the list that is worth giving it another shot. read more

My group From Grapes to Glass did a wine crawl on Saturday afternoon in the East Village and 10 Degrees was our second stop. We were a pretty large group; 25 strong and they gave us the back room. Let me start by saying that the service is absolutely fantastic!! Warm, friendly and with big, big smiles. Colleen and Claudia, we love you both!! The wine selection is really fantastic with great selections from Portugal, France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain. The purpose of this crawl was to get people to step outside of their comfort zones and try new wines and 10 Degrees is a perfect choice to do just that. We loved the funky atmosphere, the cool music and that real downtown casual hip vibe that 10 degrees completely owns. They have an excellent menu of small plates and there is even a short list for chocolate lovers!! Here is the best part, we had our wine and snacks and it was contest time. We did a sing down and everyone split up into groups and had to come up with a song that referenced wine. When it was time to perform. Claudia and Colleen and a couple of the patrons were our judges!! It was a blast!! Hands down 10 Degrees was a super high point in our crawl and the entire group agreed that we would all be back and recommend it as a must go-to spot. Thanks 10 Degrees!! I really like this place and try to visit often. It's excellent that the 2 for 1 runs all week long from noon until 8pm. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon catch-up with an old friend. The guac is still tasty, but perhaps could be served with some better quality tortilla chips. The cheese offerings are pretty generous and more than enough for a snack. Make sure you leave by 6 or so, because even on a Sunday it gets packed with 22 year olds who apparently have just leaned about alcohol. The volume level gets high and it can become difficult to carry on a conversation when the "loud girls" (read: attention seekers) take over. Yikes. read more

In NYC where all the drinks are expensive AF, I was amazed at their Two for One drink special -- 2 Old Fashioned's poured with Maker's Mark for $12? Can't beat that anywhere. Went there for an engagement party on April 6, 2013 a Saturday. Held in the back room of the bar. The dimly lit room room was nice enough: adequate seating, decorative touches and ambiance. Service was attentive, the appetizers were average, pretty good bar nosh overall, the sliders were a tad on the salty side, but in a bar setting that is not a surprise. I have stopped in here twice now, both times just for happy hour, so I have yet to have a full meal or night here. Awesome Happy Hour with two for one drink specials until 8pm daily. Our gang of three really enjoyed the Avocado Toast and Crostini Santorini off the app menu. Taking advantage of the happy hour deal I sucked down two delicious Gimlets before heading off into the night. If I lived anywhere near here I would for sure make this a constant haunt. read more

Ten degrees is definitely one of my favorite hang out spots in NYC. It is clean, laid back, and they serve strong, well-made drinks. Their packages to rent one of their private rooms is pretty reasonable (the owner Moti is very prompt with his response to any queries about parties). I always go back to Ten degrees for their chocolate martinis (stoli raspberry vodka, godiva liquor and OREOS COOKIES GARNISH!!!!). Three of these make my night. read more
