    pork katsu curry

Nothing particularly special about this place - was a little surprised because my family really liked the Escondido location. The gyudon beef bowl was pretty dry and had so much more rice compared to meat. Similar for the portion of the katsu curry, and the sauce wasn't amazing. The appetizers were probably the best thing. Thai tea was okay. Prices were not too high at least.

Years later and this place still hits the spot! If you come during lunch you can get a bowl of ramen for under $15. Add a small side of a rice bowl (3 options to choose from), and everything is still under $20 after tax. Service is attentive and quick. They really do a. Good job turning people in and out - but I love that they are consistent, the broth (even the tonkottsu) isn't as heavy as other places and everything is still packed with flavor!

Small family run shop with huge menu and fast service. We got the spicy pork and chicken ramens, which were both good, but the chicken texture was a bit rubbery. I couldn't tell if it was boiled or cooked on the flat top that gave it that springy texture. The spam masubi and chicken karage were kind of dry, but overall this place satisfied our ramen craving. Decor is fun and cozy and no wait on a Saturday night.

YUM. What a delicious gem hidden in this strip mall. The space is decorated so fun, service is friendly, and everything is cooked to order. So fresh and authentic! Love supporting this local family business & can't wait to work our way through the whole menu.

I swung by during off peak lunch hours during a sleepy weekday. Service was prompt albeit with an attitude. Parking was free and ample. The place is decorated like a Japanese themed tavern. I was surprised by the kind of vegetable/ insoluble fiber toppings they offered for their ramen. I always like ordering extra vegetable toppings for better digestion and long-term satiation. This place offered peeled and boiled bok choy. Definitely not something a so called authentic Japanese ramen shop typically offers as that's really something more of a staple in Chinese or Korean noodle shops. Now the food itself looked very visually appealing but I was disappointed by the use of other unconventional ramen toppings such as peanuts. The broth was watery and wasn't very flavorful. The chashu itself was tough and overcooked. I wouldn't have used that particular cut of meat for chashu. It just doesn't have the right mouthfeel for it no matter how low and slow you cook them. Lastly, as I finished my meal in less than 10 bites or so. I couldn't help but to feel like I got what I paid for. It was a lunch time menu item with less to pay for and I guess that also came with lunchtime menu portions or less to eat in a bowl. Unless I am in the area and desperate for ramen, I wouldn't be returning. For those who grew up in Japan like I did, I would avoid it because you will be in for a disappointment.

A Ramen Ode to Ten Gu In Oceanside where sea winds play, There lies a spot not far away, Where bowls of broth and noodles gleam-- Ten Gu Ramen, foodie dream. The Tonkotsu's rich, a silky tide, With pork that melts and warms inside. The Spicy Miso, bold and bright, Will heat your soul and light your night. The eel rice bowl? A smoky treat, With savory notes and texture sweet. And cheese rolls, fried to golden hue, Surprise your taste buds through and through. The staff, with smiles, bring each plate, With care and grace--they never wait. The space is small, but filled with cheer, A cozy vibe that draws you near. So if you're hungry, cold, or blue, There's just one thing you need to do-- Head to Ten Gu, don't delay, And let their ramen make your day.

This spot was down the road apiece from an Airbnb we were staying at. We decided on Ramen and found this on Yelp, (of course). Nicely designed and decorated restaurant very cozy. Greeted with a warm and welcoming smile, we sat and were quickly attended to. My spouse and I ordered our meal with some direction from a friend. I must say Superior. Super fresh and flavorful. The restaurant started to fill up with patrons soon after. I think a great place for first dates or just a cozy spot to be with your spouse. A++

Paid a visit here for dinner. Great ambience with the themed decor, attentive server and plenty of room inside for dining in. EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious! We started off with the vegetable egg rolls, fried tofu and pork cutlet. All three starters laid a perfect foundation for my spicy chicken ramen; you can choose between thick and thin noodles. The spicy-ness to it was great but I opted for more heat with hot sauce and chili oil. In the end, I had room for a little more food and got the Takoyaki (my favorite!) to top everything off. Great flavors all around. If you're looking for a good ramen spot, try Tengu.

Bought a takeout order of the Tengu Tonkotsu Ramen from their lunch menu and paid $2.50 extra to add an egg to it. It ended up only $0.50 cheaper than a regular order which comes with the egg. The restaurant is kind of small and cute, with a couple of small tables outside. Service was really quick, I got the takeout in about five minutes. It was very nicely packaged and tasted delicious.

My kids and I was shopping on a Sunday, 12/29 and decided to try this ramen place. We were very pleased overall and shared the items that you saw on the pictures. They had one waitress but she was able to manage the small place. The Ramen came out quickly and the curry bowl was last. Very flavorful and the curry was even in the right spice level for my kids since I'm a wimp with the spicy stuff. Prices were affordable and they didn't mind that we share which is usual anyways for Asian cuisine (except for buffets of course).

Spicy pork ramen (pork is ground pork). Fresh and delicious

Seriously good, legit ramen with good and fast service. We had the tempura udon, spicy pork ramen, dumplings and edamame. All excellent. This is a very casual small restaurant in a strip mall that is always crowded (always!). If you come at peak times you might have a wait but what stood out is how attentive the staff is and they work hard to get you seated. Get the dumplings for sure- I think every single person there ordered them including us, they are tasty and made well. This is fresh food from a family run business. Big selection on the menu with pictures to help. Only wish they explained a few of the Japanese terms and ingredients as that is not always clear and you can't figure it out from the picture. I've been to Japan a few times and this ramen/udon made me feel like I was back there- mostly because of how fresh it is and the fact that the broth was savory and not salty. They have Japanese music playing and cute decor- love the large photos on the walls. This won't break the bank either - things are priced well and you get big servings for your money. I couldn't finish my ramen so I am getting two meals. It's really good, it's really authentic and that's confirmed by how busy they always are!

    Chicken ramen to go
    Christine S.

Very nice inviting place. Located next to Urbane Kitchen on the West end of Vista Way. I ordered the chicken ramen to go which was packaged nicely so that the ingredients stay on top of the broth until you're ready to mix them in. The broth was a perfect balance of savory and not too salty. It had a complex depth of flavor that shows it was simmered over time. The toppings were fresh, and appropriately portioned for the noodles. The two egg halves were cooked perfectly with softened yolks and firm whites. My order was ready in less than 10 minutes, so it was the perfect way to take home a comforting meal on a cool evening.

Came in towards the end of the night about an hour before they closed. And we found this place on Yelp and we were pretty glad we came through. The ambiance was pretty casual and the workers were super helpful and quick with the service. My friend got the plain Udon and I ordered the Tengu Tonkatsu Ramen and we both shared the Cheese Egg Rolls and Gyoza and those were not bad at all. The cheese rolls were alright, pretty chewy and the gyoza was cooked pretty well. The tengu tonkatsu ramen was pretty good, I liked the broth and chashu. And my friend really thought the udon was yummy and classic. Would definitely pass by again if I'm ever in the area!

I'm so glad we decided to give it a try. We have several anime fans in our household, so it was exciting to recognize all the characters displayed throughout the restaurant. The kids loved them too! After ordering at the counter, we took our number and found a slightly wonky--but charming and sturdy--solid-wood table. Different movies were playing on the TVs, which kept the kids entertained while we waited for our food. We ordered sushi and ramen, and my ramen was exquisite. I believe it was called the Dark Knight, and it was absolutely delicious. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Orion beer on draft. Having lived in Okinawa, where the brewery is based, it was wonderfully nostalgic and added another layer of authenticity to the experience. Everything about our visit was wonderful, and we'll definitely be dining here again. They also advertise special events inside the restaurant. I always enjoy dining there with my family because they have good food that we can all enjoy together. Every year for my birthday I go to Gonzo! I simply love eating at Gonzo. First of all, I can't get over how scrumptious their food is, it is so tasty and packed with flavor. If you stand in line to order, as soon as you sit down you will have already been served. I don't know how Gonzo prepares their meals so fast, yet so delicious. Also the fact that they cook their food fresh daily is crazy to me. I've been to many ramen restaurants and no one compares to Gonzo's. My go to on the menu is the tonkotsu ramen with gyoza and chicken karaage. Gonzo also offers a very unique atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in Japan. They have waving cats, a big banana neon light, posters and a floating ball on top of the water station. The ball is so cool but I am still puzzled on how it works. Their decor can not be matched. They also have a TV that is always playing Anime. You can also sit inside or outside so if you feel like sitting inside, sit inside but if you want to sit outside, sit outside. Gonzo also does not offer reservations so there is always a place to sit. If there is nowhere to sit just get It to go, truly there is no other ramen stop better than Gonzo. Lastly, the people there are super nice, and always check up on you, they are very polite, and they always say your welcome. While you wait, you can enjoy your appetizers until your main meal arrives. Also if you ask them for a free ticket to their store, they will give you one, each member of the family gets one. You can go next door and trade them in for tokens, these tokens can be used to play claw machines so you can win stuff. But what tops that off is that all of the employees are welcoming and happy. Gonzo Ramen is the best restaurant in the world. They offer good food, an amazing atmosphere and the people there are super nice not to mention the location is very conveniently located near my house. I seriously think about Gonzo all the time. Gonzo is that go to place for me and my family.

We settled on Oceanside in hopes of finding good food, as our weekend (end of Feb) had been full of a poor results. This place came up as very well rated on Yelp, as my friend and I searched for places to eat. It was a Saturday night with great weather. The red flag I should have read into was that the lone guy working that night was a one man show. He was doing it all in the front of the house. I tried to get us a table to sit outdoors but he just couldn't get to the table to clean it. After about 20 minutes he finally came and just moved all the bowls to the empty table next to it and wiped it down. When my friends finally arrived we all sat down to sticky menus that had NO descriptions. What you see on the website is exactly what they have on the menu. We had to wait to ask the server/host what each menu item meant. It took a while to get our food from when we ordered. Thank goodness for good company, I didn't clock it. The food options were limited and keep in mind for those who have children, most of the options come with a spicy kick, you'll have to explicitly tell them "no spicy"! There was a party who had been sitting for a while before we got there and a kiddo took a bite of pizza and was crying, screaming from it being so spicy. With my ramen the portions are tiny for what you pay, with 1 piece of meat, not enough noodles. Flavor wise it was spicy and bland. We ordered a couple appetizers which were not very good. The edamame was overly salty and soaked in soy sauce and the karaage was probably the only good thing and that was a little overfried. No one in our party finished our food or took any of the leftovers home. Save yourself the trip, not worth trying the "unique foods".
