We had to wait to ask the server/host what each menu item meant. It took a while to get our food from when we ordered. Thank goodness for good company, I didn't clock it. The food options were limited and keep in mind for those who have children, most of the options come with a spicy kick, you'll have to explicitly tell them "no spicy"! There was a party who had been sitting for a while before we got there and a kiddo took a bite of pizza and was crying, screaming from it being so spicy. With my ramen the portions are tiny for what you pay, with 1 piece of meat, not enough noodles. Flavor wise it was spicy and bland. We ordered a couple appetizers which were not very good. The edamame was overly salty and soaked in soy sauce and the karaage was probably the only good thing and that was a little overfried. We were so glad to have found Sunshine Kitchen through Yelp. This restaurant is located in a strip mall, and parking is ample out front. It appears to be family owned, and all the wait staff is extremely friendly. There are both indoor and outdoor sitting area, and it appears to be a favorite among locals. The menu is diverse with poke, ramen, fried rice, sushi, and many other Asian dishes. For lunch, I ordered the tuna/salmon poke and a salmon skin hand-roll. The poke bowl had generous serving and was very flavorful. My lunch tasted good, filling, and light. Our bill came to $50 with tips included, which was an excellent value for such a healthy and filling meal. As for service, the food came fast and the ambiance felt cozy and comfortable. My two downsides to the ramen are: 1. It doesn't include the typical ramen egg (it's an additional $2) and 2. the chashu portion is ridiculous--they give 2 measly pieces that are like 1/6" thick. I ordered the regular pho for about $15 and really enjoyed the broth. The meats were tender and flavorful, especially the brisket and tripe. Portion sizes definitely seem smaller compared to the oversized bowls many spots used to serve years ago, but honestly it works well if you're trying to avoid overdoing it. My son ordered the grilled pork chops with rice. The flavor was good, especially paired with the fish sauce, though the pork chops could have been a little hotter and had more of that grilled flavor. Parking can sometimes be tricky depending on the time of day, but today it wasn't an issue at all. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and especially the broth. Pho House is definitely becoming one of my preferred pho spots in Oceanside again.
