The young lady at the register was so sweet and helpful. The environment is clean and tidy. The food is delicious but I was disappointed in the portion.

We really enjoyed our visit to Tender Greens in Santa Monica. The café has a spacious dining area, which is actually quite rare for Santa Monica, with plenty of seating inside, plus a nice outdoor patio. The food was tasty and well prepared. The only small note -- the chicken was a bit spicy. We didn't ask about the spice level, and unfortunately the cashier didn't warn us, but overall the quality of the food was still very good. The service was friendly and efficient. Our order was ready in about 15 minutes, even though the café was moderately busy at the time. Prices are reasonable -- you can easily stay under $20 per person. Another big plus is the nearby multi-level parking, which is definitely important in Santa Monica and makes visiting much more convenient. Overall, I would recommend this place and would happily come back again.

They had a delicious braised short rib plate but it took 30+ minutes just to receive my food!!

30 minutes before they closed, I came to tender greens for a healthy, tasty dinner. I was greeted very warmly. I ordered at the counter and took my seat. The dining room is spacious, clean and modern. This location is a block away from Ocean Boulevard in Santa Monica. I ordered the seared tuna, romaine hearts, and roasted potatoes. They were delivered pretty quickly, and everything was delicious and the portions were generous, especially the potatoes. The croutons in their salad are insane. Dinner also came with a hunk of toast made of that same heaven-sent bread, which I took home. My server was super nice and brought my dessert out a few minutes later. The apple crumble is served with a nice big dollop of cream, which gives you that warm toasty feeling without consuming a whole serving of ice cream on your apple crumble. The apple crumble apple slices were nicely covered with cinnamon and not too sweet. I really enjoy eating on real plates with real silverware. That was fun. I took my leftovers home in a compostable container. I had the hibiscus tea, which was absolutely delicious. Everyone here was kind and helpful, and I would absolutely come back.

Came to order a take order. Salmon is so dry. You don't want light pink salmon. You want a little more orange pink and this plate cost $19.

The shades of pink was a really good sippable drink that was perfect on a warm day. It wasn't too sweet and light enough to feel refreshing. The aloe & behold cocktail was delicious and got a hint of floral flavor that made it feel unique. The staff were great and attentive. The bathrooms were clean and had a cute aesthetic. The whole restaurant felt like a good date night place or a vibey place to go with coworkers. Street/meter parking was available but be wary of the neighborhoods which have parking restrictions.

I almost asked for extra dressing, it was that good. Made me want to try making my own version. The vegetables being edamame & carrots were tenderly cooked & lightly seasoned with care. The purple cabbage was crunchy & fresh. The white rice underneath hot and soft. Enjoyed the contrast of textures. Good sized portion too. So satisfied with this entree I declined the dessert which is rare! My bf ordered The Burger & cheesecake. He said it was good. I thought they looked beautiful. It's located in the old Clock Tower building, and the Art Deco decor is absolutely stunning--dark enough to hide a bad day but vibrant enough for a girls' night. The Vibe: It's loud, lively, and perfectly "bohemian chic". If you're coming on a weekend, prepare for a crowd, but it's the good kind of crowded where everyone looks like they just came from a gallery opening. The Food: I'm still thinking about the Crispy Chicken Sandwich--it was juicy, perfectly seasoned, and came with a fennel-apple slaw that actually felt fresh. We also shared the Bacon Wrapped Dates (obviously) and the Hand Cut Kennebec Fries, which arrive in a bowl so huge it could basically be its own zip code. The Drinks: Their Happy Hour is arguably the best in the city. I had the Japanese Dream with matcha, and it was expertly crafted--not too sweet, which is my biggest pet peeve. The "Misfit" Moment: The service can be a tiny bit slow when it's "rammed," and there's a 4% kitchen fee that feels a bit unnecessary, but they make up for it with those complimentary sea salt chocolate chip cookies at the end. They are warm, gooey, and life-changing. One major heads-up: I heard a rumor they might be closing their doors on April 18th due to some landlord drama, so get there while you still can.

Sounds simple but there are many ways to screw up a burger and a salad. And there are fewer ways to knock it out of the park and they did just that. I don't think people appreciate what goes into a well-thought out salad. This was mostly a kale-based salad (I think) so they've already chosen the vegetable equivalent of making life difficult. Kale is basically a dare. But the size and shape and quality of the ingredients was not lost on me. The torn versus diced chicken, the large pieces of nuts, the long thin spears of apple. So you KNOW what is on your fork and what is going into your mouth and can appreciate it. What impressed me also was that when the table/booth next to us was vacated, one of the staff came over and DETAILED that booth... Looked for crumbs in the cracks of the cushion... pulled out the two chairs facing the bench and thoroughly swept under the table like he was opening up for the day or clearing a crime scene or something. Why can't we have places like this in the Valley? Is it because we are poor and mostly in-bred? I get it... but we like torn chicken and clean booths, too, ya know. (They had REAL candles. Not flicker LED fake candles. At some point all the restaurateurs had a pow-wow and agreed you do NOT let valley people get around real candles. A decision that I wholeheartedly agree with but I miss them.) Anyway. Try it.

The restaurant itself was very cool, it had an old diner feel but with the decor, lighting and music it was hip and trendy. All the tables were full and the menu looked very interesting. They took old diner staples and modernized it. Great concept!! We started off with garlic bread which was two pieces of cibata bread with 3 bulbs of roasted garlic in olive oil. The presentation was beautiful and while it was messy, it was yummy. The ratio of garlic to bread was off. There was so much garlic and only two pieces of bread. It should have been 4 pieces. For dinner, I ordered the crispy chicken (fried chicken) with greens which was very good. The breading was spiced perfectly and the chicken was moist and yummy. My husband went for the cheese burger, cooked medium rare with fries. Unfortunately, the burger came out well done and Johnny immediately took it back to and had another burger made. After a long while and mind you I had to eat by myself kind of killing the experience, the burger came back and again it was more well than medium which was very frustrating. Johnny and the manger of the restaurant stopped by and asked to do it again and he declined. They said they will take it off the bill which was very nice. The bill came and when I reviewed it, we saw the billed included both burgers (original and the replacement) with the two credits, as well as, a 4 percent kitchen charge. However, when it summed up the tip, it based it on everything that came to our table. For example, the original bill if everything was perfect should have been $75 it added the replacement burger and I increased it to $100. So the calculated 20% tip was $20 based on the $100. My check balance with the burger credit was $62 including tax, plus a $19 tip. I knew exactly what was going on but since Johnny was an attentive and good waiter we wanted to make sure he was compensated for his work. I wasn't going to make a big deal about the 4% for the kitchen but in this case, it was there incompetence that caused the problem and that should have never been passed to us. Overall, would we go back to Diner Antoinette on our next holiday to Santa Monica, probably not.

It swings from Vietnamese small plates to a straightforward steak, and the range never settles into a point of view -- it reads less like a confident eclectic kitchen than a grab bag. The fried red snapper was the standout: crisp, well-cooked, good enough to stand on its own. It came with a fish sauce for dipping that it didn't need -- a wedge of lemon on the side would have suited it far better. The Vietnamese crab cake was a real miss; I couldn't get past it. The dumplings were fine but forgettable. Service ran to extremes. Our server was warm and eager, almost too eager -- he pushed a bottle of wine we weren't sold on, and we ordered it anyway. Then, after all that attentiveness, he disappeared toward the end of the meal and never came back. The wine list was fine, nothing memorable. There's real skill in that kitchen -- the snapper proves it -- but the meal never added up to more than its parts. I left full, not delighted.
