A rotating open-flame grill, a thicker real beef patty, and one of the most interesting burgers in Marin County. In a Bay Area scene dominated by flat-tops and smashburgers, Hamburgers in Sausalito is one of the few places built around a piece of equipment you almost never see anymore: A rotating open-flame grill - gas-fired, true flame contact, and absolutely not a gimmick. This grill isn't decoration. It's the core technology that defines how this burger tastes. THE GRILL - Why the rotating design actually matters Most "charbroiled" burgers today touch no real flame. This one does. And the rotating carousel grill changes the cooking physics in four major ways: 1. Even heat exposure The patty circulates through different temperature zones, preventing hot-spot burning and creating a thin, consistent crust. 2. Natural self-basting Rotation redistributes juices instead of losing them to one side. The result: moist but not greasy. 3. Clean flame char Edges pass the flame line for milliseconds at a time bright, clean smokiness, not bitterness. 4. High-output speed Multiple patties cook simultaneously. This is why the line looks long but moves fast. For Sausalito, that's rare. This grill is one of the last of its kind in the Bay Area. THE PATTY - Thicker than expected, cooked to your spec This is not a thin patty. This is a classic American grind with enough structure and fat that the cook actually asks: "How would you like it done?" That tells you everything about the raw material. I went with their recommended doneness. The texture reminded me of an Irish pub burger - the kind with enough heft to stand upright, juicy in the center, but not so rare that it feels risky. Hamburgers doesn't serve it that rare, but the spirit is similar: * dense, structured beef * a tender center instead of a grainy one * a fire-formed crust instead of a greasy sear For a tiny counter shop, the quality is shockingly high. THE PINEAPPLE - This is the upgrade. Pay the extra. This isn't optional. Here's why the grilled pineapple works (and this is flavor science, not opinion): 1. Maillard + caramelization = deeper browning Beef gives you Maillard. Pineapple gives you caramelized sugars. Together a far richer crust profile. 2. Natural acidity cuts fat Prevents palate fatigue and resets the flavor every bite. 3. Fruit esters lift the entire burger Grilled pineapple retains volatile aromatics that slice through smoke and beef. This is the same reason a pastor taco absolutely needs that one slice of pineapple. It unlocks everything. Once you eat the pineapple version, the regular cheeseburger feels incomplete. SERVICE & THROUGHPUT - Friendly, efficient, unexpectedly fast Despite the line outside, the wait is much shorter than it looks. The rotating grill acts like a production line: * predictable heat * steady rhythm * no dead zones on the grate * multiple patties cooking at once The staff is warm, human, and incredibly efficient. They run an entire burger operation in a space the size of a walk-in closet and still manage to smile at customers. That alone is worth acknowledging in Sausalito. If you're searching for: * best burgers in Sausalito * Bay Area open-flame burgers * charbroiled burger near San Francisco * Marin County burger spots * rotating grill burger * Sausalito fast casual lunch * old-school fire-grilled burgers Hamburgers is absolutely worth the stop. A real flame. A real patty. A shockingly effective grill. And a slice of grilled pineapple that changes the entire architecture of the burger. 4 stars - earned by fire, not marketing. - Dr. C Only writing for what truly earns the stars.

Roaming around Sausalito- needing lunch that wouldn't break the bank before Muir Woods and found this place. Steady busy but the 2 ladies behind the counter were taking orders, cooking, prepping, and taking payments were on it! Place is small with a few tables in the back- park across the street served nicely for a burger lunch by the water. Burgers tasted like backyard burgers. Delicious! The fries were fresh. Did not order the burritos but they looked huge! Nice place for a family friendly stop! Thank you!

As you walk by, your eyes will inevitably catch on the rotating grill where the burger patties are being cooked. However, that's where the novelty ends as the food itself is pedestrian and unremarkable. A solid burger cooked to medium, topped with standard veggies like lettuce and tomato, if you're looking for a quick bite not a bad option. Do note their burgers are on the pricier side, $13 for a regular sized burger that's only marginally better than would you'd find at any other fast food chain. It may be a better option to just go to one of the various seaside restaurants to get better food with a view.

The patty was thick and just the right amount of juicy. It wasn't a particularly memorable burger but it was still yummy. Fries were the perfect fluffy potato-y texture that was still crispy on the outside, although they honestly just tasted like Ore Ida crinkle cut fries to me.

Best place to get a burger! This was our first time visiting Sausalito and we happened to walk by while looking for a place to eat. It is so cool to see the grill by the window with your burger cooking. My husband and I got a Hawaiian burger, Cheeseburger, and shared a fry. Both burgers were AMAZING!! The burgers had great flavor and the fries were crisped to perfection! I liked that the they use very fresh ingredients and that it is not greasy. I am very picky about hamburgers so for me to eat the whole burger says a lot! I am glad that my husband and I stopped in for lunch! Highly recommend this place for a great burger!

Had a quick bite in the middle of shopping and we enjoyed the burger we ordered and tried. The fries is divine service was fast servers were truly nice and friendly and place was clean and old school.

These burgers are one of the largest burgers I've ever eaten! Very flavorful burgers too and delicious. The space inside is very small, so not ideal to dine in. Yet I did dine in. It was fine. The service was great. The vibe awesome there. Awesome burgers

Attention is very good, while the location is narrow with few seats and tables. If the party is greater than two I recommend taking the order carry out and seat in one of Sausalito amazing views of the SF bay and the Pacific Ocean. The hamburgers and fries were amazing, although I would use a softer bun.

Ever since I first heard about Fish oh so long ago, I'd been wanting to try them, but just never had much of a reason to come here. Other than to, you know, eat here. However, I had so much faith, in fact, that I even recommended this place to my buddy before I even made my way here. Thankfully, they didn't let me down, as both he and his wife loved the food here! More importantly, now that I've been, so do we! Although it takes a little bit of work to find them (they're on Bridgeway, but away from the touristy part and set back in a marina), Fish is well worth the effort. Not only is the vibe cozy and relaxed, but they've got a ton of seating both inside and out (love sitting by the water!). And, of course, the menu is awesome, as it's filled with so many options, from chowders, raw oysters, and salads to seafood entrees, pastas, and, of course, fish & chips. Plus, they also have menu boards highlighting the day's selection of raw oysters, crab, fresh fish, special entrees, "fish bits", and desserts that are just as interesting and unique! -- WHITE CHOWDER - Traditional New England Clam Chowder with Surf Clams, Cream, Bacon, Potatoes, Onion, Celery, White Wine, and Dried Herbs This was terrific! Although it could've been slightly thicker/chunkier, I liked the consistency of this - smooth but with chunks of potatoes. I also really liked how tender and meaty the clam was, too! -- RAW OYSTERS - Shigoku Oysters (WA) I had never even heard of Shigoku oysters before these, but they were terrific! The oysters were about medium sized with deep shells, which made them super to eat and I liked how they had a bit of sweetness and a bright finish to them. -- WHOLE ROASTED DUNGENESS CRAB with Tomato Sugo Drawn From Roasted Crab Shells over Soft Polenta I don't often order whole crabs like this at restaurants, but this was undeniably tasty. Aside from how messy this was to eat, the crab was sweet, the legs were pretty meaty, and I really liked how the sugo helped reinforce the taste of crab with the polenta. -- PASTA CON VONGOLE - Clams Served over Fresh Housemade Organic Egg and Semolina Linguine with Olive Oil, Butter, White Wine, Garlic, and Red Chili Flake LOVED that they didn't skimp on the clams, which were all so good, as well as the sauce and how it had a slight kick to it. The pasta had a very bouncy bite, too, but I wish there had been more of it and that it was able to hold onto the sauce better. -- FISH & CHIPS - Crispy Beer-Battered Local Rock Cod Served with Housemade Tartar Sauce and Wedge Fries Maybe my hopes/expectations were too high, as this was more decent than amazing. Mainly, while the batter was crispy-ish on the outside, it was a bit mushy on the inside. Still, the cod itself was pretty good and I liked the fries - crisp and not too potato-y. -- GRILLED CALIFORNIA HAMACHI with Housemade Pasta, Shishito Pepper-Cilantro Pesto, and Parmesan I'm so glad we pivoted to this when we saw it on the board - it was so good! The piece of hamachi was sizable, moist, and flavorful while the pasta was just as bouncy and held onto the sauce. If only they didn't use cilantro in their pesto (blech). Despite how Fish's food didn't amaze like how I had hoped it would, I think that has a lot more to do with the high hopes (expectations?) that had built up from the anticipation of finally coming here than anything else. Really, the only thing that might have been an actual bummer was the Fish & Chips, but even then, it was still notably better than others I've had. Besides, it's not like there's a shortage of delicious to pivot to instead! Fish, you'll definitely be seeing me again!

If you're hungry, I'd add an appetizer or a salad. My daughter had a burger and it had a nice charred taste and came with insanely good fries. My sister was cold and really didn't want to have to sit outdoors so we almost opted for to go food, but ultimately chose to dine anyways, and I'm so glad we did. I'll start by saying EVERYTHING was incredible. From the food down to the service we received. All of the staff we interacted with during our time there were very kind and attentive. For starters, when we arrived, I told our waitress we had a dog and she directed us to a table on their "indoor patio ", so we we're basically sat indoors, which was really nice. We weren't cold at all, and had we been, it looked like they had overhead heaters! We ordered their bread service, the warm trout dip, truffle fries, steak & frites, the burger, mussels/clams, the chocolate tart and creme brûlée. It was all delicious. While eating our appetizers, our poor pup got sick and threw up under the table :( we tried to discreetly clean it and felt really embarrassed. Entrées came out a few minutes later, and while eating our entrées, it happened a second time. At that point, we were ready to ask for the food to go, because we were feeling so thoroughly embarrassed. As I started cleaning the vomit a second time, our kind waitress came over and told me she would take care of it. I apologized repeatedly, and we felt sooo bad. She was so kind, and gracious towards us, telling us it was okay. I never got her name, but I wanted to let her know just how much we really appreciated her assistance and for not making us feel worse about what had happened. The way she handled the situation, was the epitome of dog friendly service. I'm not sure why our pup was so sick at the restaurant. My guess is he may have swallowed some water while playing at the beach. I just really wanted to express my gratitude for you all allowing us to enjoy a nice meal and continuously treating us kindly and respectfully after our poor boy got sick in your restaurant. Thank you again! If you're looking for a restaurant with delicious food, great ambiance and even better service, THIS IS IT

That was probably the most surprising dish of the meal and one of my favorites since the different flavors were subtle and worked well together. They also had fresh wasabi, which was a nice touch. The chawanmushi didn't have quite the smooth, pudding-like texture I was expecting, but the flavors were really good. The mushrooms, ikura, and subtle hit of yuzu worked really well together. There was something indescribable, though, that hinted that they rely on the picturesque views to make up for food that is "good" - but not "great." Let's start on a positive note. You can't beat the view. Our server was well informed about the menu, attentive, and friendly - but unwilling to help too much with the menu selections. "Everything is good" is a bit of a pet peeve of mine but I'm not holding this against the rating of this restaurant as that's pretty server-specific. We started with a half dozen local oysters on the half shell which were actually amazing. Perhaps the most mild tasting oysters I have ever had and served with a champagne mignonette, cocktail sauce, and fresh horseradish - all of which paired nicely. For my main course, I had the petrale sole - a very mild, delicate, Pacific flatfish. While flaky and tender, it did lack flavor and was served with some relatively uninspired accompaniments - a saffron rice and some roasted vegetables which was mostly green beans and celery. One of my friends ordered the paella which he said was "great." Overall very decent experience on par with so many other coastal restaurants that know they can fill the seats with the amazing views alone. I would definitely come back - but would likely order something different... except for the oysters - those were a must to order again!

While the ravioli and burger were alright, not bad but not worth the hefty price tag, it was the penne that had us astonished. There was not a hint of salt or seasoning. It was so bland, it tasted like they took the pasta straight out of a boiling pot of water, added a dash of oil, and called it a day. It's unacceptable for a dish charged at $28.95. And perhaps I could have overlooked the expensive mediocre dishes had it not been for the fact that the service was incredibly disappointing. Now I'm not going to say it outright, but when all the tables on every side of yours get checked up on throughout the meal except your own, it starts to feel very deliberate. When we tried to ask for the bill, the waiter nodded their acknowledgement before disappearing for a prolonged period of time. We come to find out he ended up going to a different table to cut a cake. Okay then. We try to flag down a different waiter but no one would even look in our direction nor acknowledge us as they passed by. It was genuinely shocking. We were finally able to get the bill after my brother walked directly up to someone at the bar. I wasn't originally going to leave a review, but the more I thought about it after we left, the more upset I got with the whole ordeal. You can only get away with bad food or bad service. Pick a struggle.

Our family enjoyed this historic seafood restaurant in Sausalito. We came here on Saturday for our…read morebirthday lunch . There was a traffic accident on the gift way so our arrival time was delayed . We called the restaurant and the lady was very kind and helpful. She helped us move the reservation time from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm . She promised that we may have to wait a little bit . By the time we arrived , our table was reserved and set up so that we could start ordering out late lunch. We were very hungry and they gave us another loaf of bread after the first one ! We ordered calamari fritter as appetizers. The calamari was fresh from the ocean ,so tender and delicious. It was marinated and cooked to perfection . We wanted to order a second one right after we finished it ! We have tried the signature clam chowder , Alaska halibut, three orders of the lazy Cioppino ( it has Fisherman 's stew of crabs , clams , mussels , fish , calamari in a tomato clam broth ) The crab meats were fresh and delicious, clams and calamari were tender and fresh from the ocean, so many giant prawn and fish cooked to just right and I could barely finish all the seafood in one order . The broth tasted amazing and it came with two roasted garlic butter sour dough bread . We love seafood Cioppino and this was one of the best one I had , both in presentation, quality and quantity of the seafood . Another family member ordered linguine con vongole ( linguini with fresh Manila clams , garlic , white wine , butter , chili flakes and butter ) . It tased like heaven with the white wine sauce and the fresh clams were so juicy and tender. The restaurant is nicely decorated with windows and ocean views . I love the handing lamps and the wall paintings. It offers elegant dinning with a warm and personal ambiance. Focus from " pier to plates " dinning with daily fresh catches . Guests consistently praise the exceptional freshness of the seafood and the romantic bay views . A blue ship was moving into the bay while we dinned and we enjoyed watching and experiencing the fresh ocean breeze and took photos outside and indoor . Service was exceptional and attentive . I give this restaurant 5/5 and would love to come back again for more family event .

The sauce it came with was also good. For the linguine frutti di mare, the garlic was a little too sharp for me. There were some pretty big pieces of garlic that didn't seem fully cooked through, which made the flavor a bit overpowering. The bread was great with a nice crunchy crust and salty butter. The view and seating area were also really nice, and the staff was attentive throughout the meal.
