    1. KARAAGE (Boneless Chicken Thigh)
    Sylvie C.

I wasn't expecting much from this box of karaage I got today. Boy was I so wrong!!! Can I have refills? I'm ready for more. That was the best $12 something I have spent in awhile! I'm so glad I decided to try them on a whim. Orders can be placed in-person and takes about 5-7 minutes for it to be ready. It's worth the wait! You can do what I did by going to the other food stalls to get some other nibbles. I couldn't finish the entire box of karaage so took it home and ate it cold. It reheated well and tasted great. A squeeze of lemon also helps if you have any on hand at home. Just a note -- you can't use Amex here and you will need a Visa or something. Looking forward to revisiting again when I am back at this Tokyo Central location!!

Tenkatori is located in the food court inside Tokyo Central. We ordered the regular size Chicken Karaage Bowl without any sauce. It was served over white rice and topped with green beans. The chicken pieces are pretty big. They are very juicy and full of flavor. The green beans on top were served cold but still good. The rice serving is very generous. Would order again! Only con - The cashier asked if we were eating in or taking it to go and we did say dining it but when we picked up at the counter it was in a bag (which he charged us for when we checked the receipt)

Once I found this place, it became a regular stop. The food is consistently solid--still very much "cheap eats," but flavorful enough that it feels like a steal. Fast, simple, satisfying, and reliably filling. Honestly, what more do you need?

Waited for a very long time when it wasn't really busy. The people who ordered after us got their food before. Ordered the #1 best seller which I assumed would come out quickly but unfortunately it was not fast at all. Hopefully service improves.

The karaage bento box was tasty and is at a reasonable price of $12. The fried chicken was crispy and hot, rice was plentiful, and I enjoyed the small portion of spaghetti, potato salad, and salad that came with it. We also ordered the miso ramen combo with choice of mini cha shu bowl and a side of 2 pcs of karaage for sharing. The ramen broth and overall portion was good. The mini cha shu bowl was decent. Tenkatori is located at the food court area inside the Tokyo Central, towards the right side when you enter into the market. The meal was perfect for a quick lunch before we headed over to the market. There is also a complimentary water station that is provided for the food vendors.

I ordered the shoyu ramen and the popcorn chicken (karage) to share with my son and really enjoyed the food! I asked for something spicy to add for myself after my son was eating and the cashier provided me with some tasty seasoning (unfortunately still not spicy). The karage was beyond crispy and delicious. My son probably ate the whole thing to himself! This location is inside of Tokyo Central but definitely gave a "Japan" feel to it. It was fun to feel like I was in Japan again :)

Spent $17.50 on a regular bowl of japanese curry. There was an added charge for rice for my order. Food was really good, but PRO TIP: save your added charge for rice and buy some rice from the market inside and use one of their microwaves.

Ordered the fried chicken thighs and they were delicious! Some parts were a little dry but overall we loved it! There is inside seating and outside seating. Service was nice and friendly. The food court offered free water next to the shop. Definitely a great place to try different types of food! The supermarket it's in is awesome too.

Another one of my personal favorite is the way Japan cook and prepare their chicken, the famous KARAGE! Although KFC is a popular favorite in Japan during the holidays, the Japanese have their own style of frying chicken, they call this style, "Karage." While studying health and sciences in Japan, assigned to Hokkaido, I always enjoyed dinners with their Karage Chicken. It's not too salty like other chicken cooked street foods or chain restaurants in the U.S. like KFC, Popeyes, Chick Filet etc.. I like the consistency and Japanese culinary flour and condiments that wrap the chicken, it does considerably change the aroma taste of the meat. They also come with a special sauce that seems to embrace the Japanese culinary masterpiece, it makes you feel like, you want more, once you hit your first bite. You don't much Karage, so if you want to taste the Japanese style of friend chicken, to to Tokyo Central and grab a Karage!

Parking spaces are rather small, that's a common theme with Japanese markets. This tenkatori is located inside the Tokyo central. The service was good but she forgot green beans my daughter ordered. I ordered 12 pieces boneless chicken thighs. She ordered a Chashu bowl. I have been to tenkatori in Sawtelle and I wanted to try this location. The chicken was delicious. I would recommend the chicken thighs. Two thumbs up.

    KARAAGE AND NANKOTSU

I used to love this karaage shop, but when I tried it again today after a long time, I was disappointed. The chicken was too salty, and the seasoning was so strong that it masked the natural flavor of the chicken. I'm not sure why the taste has changed this much, but I really hope they can bring back the original "TENKATORI" flavor. I was also disappointed with the chicken cartilage karaage. The pieces were very small, almost like popcorn, instead of the long, thin style you'd expect in Japanese karaage. This was also overly salty. Because of this, I probably won't be buying it again for a while, though I may give it another try someday.

This is located in the food court in Tokyo Central. Dining gets packed after noon, so if you don't want to be scavenging for seating come a but earlier on weekend. Ramen was delicious! I wanna come back to try all the flavors. The fried chicken was AMAZING I only got 2 pieces from the combo. Next time imma buy a whole box. Tables are clean, it's pretty crowded on weekend. Will definitely come back !

As if I didn't leave Japan. Best fried chicken (karaage)!! It's crunchy, tender, juicy and full of flavor. I usually take it to go because we love eating it with a lot of rice. Hehe! Their sauce is like crack! It brings another level of goodness. You will drool when you smell it fresh out of the fryer. 12 minutes to be exact. This branch has ramen and I will need to try it next time. It's located inside the food court. Parking is a bit tough but if you get lucky then good for you.

With that disclaimer out of the way, here's my humble opinion of the ramen at Shin-Sen-Gumi Hakata Ramen. It's okay. When I came here yesterday afternoon, I ordered the Hakata Ramen which is basically a tonkotsu style ramen. Every aspect of it is customizable including the broth, noodles, and toppings. I just went with the default options, which i believe they recommend for first timers. On the side, I got a flavored egg, and pork belly. The broth was solid. It was flavorful, and fatty. The noodles were the right firmness as well. However, the chashu pork and pork belly were pretty mediocre. I know this sounds harsh but hear me out. Even after bathing them in the broth, they were dry and not tender. I didn't enjoy the flavored egg either. It was overly boiled and barely marinated. Despite the shortcomings noted above, I'm still giving this place four stars because the service is fantastic. The staff is very nice and provide incredibly fast service. My drink came out in like one minute. The refill came out even faster. They also offer free refills of the noodles.
