One of the best welcome centers we have been to-- and we have been to a lot! The beautiful flowers outside makes the place look more like a botanical garden than a welcome center. The cut out of Dolly inside made us smile, as did the clean bathrooms. They had cute rocking chairs and a fire place and lots of books and brochures I saw people taking. Facilities clean/smelt good I heard an employee kindly address another person, sounded like he gave helpful information. Everywhere I looked there was info on how to be more vigilant and encouraged nonsmoking. Pet walk was nice and maintained. Definitely a well kept rest stop and information center. My friend and I stopped here for a bathroom break and to stretch our legs while on our journey to Florida. We checked out the place and grabbed several info packets. They have everything available from Memphis to Knoxville. We will gladly look them over and maybe take a day trip to some of those places. Definitely worth a stop if you're going through this part of Tennessee. read more

Literally the cleanest rest stop/information center I have EVER encountered. EVER. It is just across the state line, and across the highway from the Kentucky Welcome Center. Very well kept up, clean and new looking. The rest rooms were inconceivably immaculate, with plenty of soap, toilet paper and towels. There is someone sitting at the desk to answer questions for you. One room is dedicated to tourist information, maps, and brochures of notable things to do in the bigger cities, and then organized by region. I didn't really *need*anything but I grabbed a couple things just in case they had discount codes inside for things we were already planning to do in Nashville. (No dice, but it is always worth a shot!) They have lovely covered picnic areas and even have a little walking loop (1/7 of a mile, better than nothin'!) I've stopped here twice on my way from Minnesota to Florida and had good experiences both times. Bathrooms are clean and I've always felt safe stopping here. The women that man the information booth are friendly and informative and are able to point out lots of information to take along for mainstream to off the beaten path visits. Ask them about Maxwell House Coffee! There's a replica of a cabin and fireplace area in the brochure room that makes a good photo op for the heart of country music theme. In the tone of the infamous James K from MKE. This rest stop wasn't shady or even slightly hustlin. And the staff wasn't trying to mess wit U. It was lacking in the area of hot chicks both poultry and human. But it was also 6:am and most birds and people are still sleeping. This is a rest stop.. a place to check in on yelp, update your Twitter and share in FB how tired you are for waking up at 4:am to get to SWFL by 10pm. Welcome to Tennessee, this welcome center does an excellent job of being both "rest area" and "welcome center" with a decent amount of parking, clean restrooms, plenty of vending machines and a lot of brochures for state-wide attractions. I was especially pleased that the vending machines accept credit/debit cards as all I had was a $20. read more

I've been here plenty of times throughout the years as it's roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour away from downtown Nashville. Bathrooms are large and clean. There are vending machines available. No grills at the picnic tables Tony and I love to go to Chattanooga area so we stop at this rest area quite a bit. We also like to picnic or cookout since we can't grill at our apartment in Nashville, so we notice things like Grill or no grill at picnic tables..this facility has NO grills available. But a great restroom and plenty of parking. There is also plenty of literature to plan your next weekend outing.. Pet friendly with a great walking area for your traveling pooch! Please don't be offended by Pooch, that is my puppy's name!!!! Please enjoy this wonderful facility. There are wonderful views of Nickleback Lake..I wish there were grills, but maybe they are afraid you will stay too long if you are grilling verses a picnic basket of cold chicken or sandwiches...the views are gorgeous!!! read more

This is the nicest rest area I have ever been in. It's very welcoming and soon as you pass from Kentucky into Tennessee this is the Tennessee welcome area. Have a nice walking Track or you can kind of walk around it's about a quarter-mile welcome to Tennessee signs I got a nice little music playing in the background everywhere restrooms are really nice neat and clean they even have a security guard here to keep people safe. There's a lot of nice pretty flowers and a lot of trees and just a lot of good nice things here. Really enjoyed stopping here and I'm glad we did on our trip. This is the stop on I-65 as you cross into Tennessee from Alabama. And it advertised wi-fi...which worked while you were inside the main building only. The rest rooms were clean and renovated. There were attentive & friendly staff members on site who truly wanted to assist travelers. There was a lot of space to wander around, picnic or walk your dog. The vending machines were in a separate air-conditioned building which I really appreciated. There is nothing worse than melted candy. Five stars for a Welcome Center/Rest Stop?! I know, seems odd, but this is one the the nicest rest stops I've ever been to. The welcome center is fairly new, I'd say that they built it about 5 years ago. They've taken care of it as well. The bathrooms are always clean & security is usually present. Before I moved to Nashville, I drove down from Owensboro to Nashville about 3 times a week, if I ever needed to stop somewhere, I'd pick this place over a local McDonalds. They have an information center that is manned during normal business hours. They've got many brochures for the state of Tennessee. You're welcome to have your pet on a leash & clean up after it if it makes a number two. (Get your shit together, CAROL!) This Tennessee welcome center is a warm welcome to I-65 South. I wish that they'd update the Kentucky welcome center across the interstate as it's seen better days. read more

We were traveling through TN from KY and the Welcome Center in Portland TN was one of the nicest we have ever been in coast to coast. We have traveled through every state in the US and stopped at many a welcome center. The restrooms are very clean, but the outside is beautifully kept up and their is even a spot to take a photo with a sign welcoming you to Tennessee. We met Mr. Smith (his given name), and who was keeping the grounds tidy and he was just what you would expect of a nice southern gentleman. Rest stops are creepy, but not this one. I had already prepped my husband for standing guard near the bathroom door, but as soon as we stepped inside the building, I assured him that I would be just fine. When we stopped by (weekday 7:35 p.m.), there was a very pleasant security guard on duty. And in general, the place was super clean with lots of grassy areas for pets.
