Went to this place for dinner, after it was recommended by our concierge at the Westin. We are from California and not shy of Teppanyaki restaurants. This place was so-so server was funny but hard to understand. We the meal comes with miso soup, entree and white rice 10$ upcharge if you want fried rice. We ordered two combination plates filet and shrimp and filet and lobster. Both were huge in portions we could have split the meal. Filet was tender and shrimp/lobster was cooked well. The chef was nice and went thru the typical "lines" while we watched. The chef asked all of us at the table where we were from, one of the couples there was local. When it came time to pay the server explained he gave the local couple 30% off of there bill because they were locals.... needless to say we won't be coming back here for the mediocre food and cheesy service read more

Dan Teppan Yaki is totally overrated and ridiculously overpriced. The $9 fried rice was dry, bland, and overcooked as was the lobster. The filet mignon however was excellent and the sauces served with the meal much better than Benihana. The staff overall was pleasant. The chefs were very friendly and talkative but the waiter withdrawn, quiet, and irritable. I would only recommend Dan Teppan Yaki to guests of the Sheraton who apparently get half off coupons. Otherwise your money will be better spent somewhere else. read more

I would not recommend this place unless you have never been to a hibachi restaurant. We go to hibachi all the time in Florida so we expected the quality to be the same or even better considering we're in Hawaii at a nice hotel. The only reason I give two stars is because the veggies were good. The shrimp were not even cooked all the way when the chef put them on my plate. If you upgrade to fried rice it's $10! $10 for a small bowl of friend rice which wasn't even very good. My husband and I paid $140 for the two of us without any drinks. We were in Maui for our honeymoon and stayed at the Sheraton. We got a free gift certificate for $150.00 at this restaurant. Our server wasn't the best but the Chef made up for that. We had the lobster and steak. My wife had a NY strip and I had the filet. The food was well cooked and very flavorful. This was probably the best prepared hibachi meal we have ever had. Our bill was a bit pricey but most of Maui seems to be that way. We would definitely come back. read more

If you do make it in you will be treated to not much of a show by the cooks. While the staff is pleasant for this rather small place, prices were beyond absurd even for Maui. Fried rice add on $9. Steak over $50, chicken $39 and dont even look at the drink prices...decent food and fact it was cooked close to perfect kept me from putting this at avoid! I would spend this kind of money maybe if you had a view on this gorgeous island!! This place does not have a good setting at all. We even had a $150 off coupon and the bill still was over $230 with the deduction and only two out of five drinking any alcoholic beverage. We had a great time with our group at the hibachi. Our chef was "Da Man" and he was a lot of fun! Very energetic and engaging. All of the food was delicious. It is expensive ($200 for 2 people) but we knew that going in. The only problem is it's way too much food! They could've prepared half the veggies and half the rice and we all still would have been stuffed! Definitely a fun dinner experience. read more

This place is ok but its WAY OVER PRICED! Also, there is no kids menu. I took my 9 and 11 year olds and was forced to order the $38 chicken for each of them as there were no other choices. I asked if they could split and they said no. Needless to say, for a family of 5 we had way too many leftovers! We were staying at a hotel with no microwave so couldn't take it with us. Went to Maui on my honeymoon and had dinner here one night, i had the triple combo, steak, shrimp and island catch of the day. the only reason i gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, is the grill must have been a little to hot to start with and the rice tasted a little burned. but by the time he cooked my steak (medium rare) it was one fo the best teppan steaks ive ever had. read more

Loved the lobster and the grilled veggies, not too buttery like I usually find but the fried rice with bacon was delicious. definitely a good spot, plan on shelling out the dough though ;) Make sure you make your reservations in advance, they fill up quick!! read more

typically, every restaurant at a resort hotel is expensive. teppan-yaki dan is no exception, but to its credit you do get a lot of food and entertaining cooking. each hibachi meal comes with edamame, miso soup, vegetables, and steamed rice. the ginger garlic fried rice is an upgraded price, which was a little surprising to me. I liked having the little bowl of edamame to start, and the waiter came back quickly with our drinks. however, one thing that I did not necessarily like was that our beers and sake were kept in an ice bucket away from the table, so we were only able to refill when the waiter was around. they were also out of our first choice of sake. the food was pretty good and i thought the clams were a great addition to the miso soup. the large scallops and beef were pretty good, and my husband seemed to enjoy the lobster and steak. like I said, it was plenty of food and we had leftovers to take for later. read more

The food was decent and the service wasn't bad but if you expect to see your preparer to entertain you like Benihana then you might want to pass on it. This restaurant offers a bit of a unique experience, having you share a table with 1 or 2 other parties, and a typical Teppan-style show. Our waiter performed the obligatory onion volcano, before preparing out food. The filet mignon was tender and delicious, and the ginger fried rice is a must have. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because they charge resort prices, which are about 25% more than you'd pay for the same meal elsewhere. But very good overall; I highly recommend it. We are staying at the hotel where this restaurant is located. It was for s birthday dinner and we love teppanyaki, so we thought it would be perfect. We were seated as soon as we came in along with another couple. The waiter took our drink orders promptly and then our dinner orders. My husband and I had the filet with shrimp. The prices were a bit high but the steak was excellent and there was a good amount of shrimp. White rice came with the dinner but if we wanted fried rice it was $12.00 per person extra. We opted for one order of the fried rice, which was just average and not worth $12.00 extra, especially since rice is cheap and should of been included. The chef was nice, interacted with us and the steak was cooked perfectly. After he left, the service was terrible. No one came to fill up our water, the four of us sat waiting for our checks, trying to get someone's attention, finally they brought it, and it took another 15-20 minutes for someone to take it and bring back our receipts. read more

When I see Teppan style cooking I am there. No questions asked. I've been to different places and some of the same places in different locations but this one was not really on the same caliber as any of them. One star for our chef who was nice enough and did the mandatory "Volcano" for us, the other star is for the other two couples who shared our table and a few laughs along the way. We had the late 8:30 seating this time around. Hey, I couldn't really complain because it was 50% off so I had to give it a try. I had the lobster and fried rice, my wife had the steak and lobster and my daughter had the teriyaki chicken. The food was cooked to the correct doneness but the sauce was not to my liking. The Maui dipping sauce was a bit on the sweet side and the sauces they cooked with the food just overpowered the flavor of the ingredients themselves. The fried rice had a nice scent of garlic but it was quite salty. The service was not up to par as well since it was the last seating. We were the last table there and people just wanted to go home. So if you do go eat here, try during the peak hours so that they're more focused on service. I'm pretty picky about teppanyaki and like the flavors of the ingredients and not the MSG laden sauces that get poured on it. I've not found a good teppanyaki on Maui yet but if you go to Oahu, I'd highly recommend Tanaka of Tokyo. read more

Based on previous reviews, were a little skeptical to dining here but it turned out to be a great experience. We were staying at the resort and they were able to get us a reservation with minimal notice. The food was delicious and had the best vegetable selection of any teppanyaki style restaurant that I've dined at which included locally grown onions, mushrooms, asparagus. They gave the mustard and ginger sauces their own style addicting Maui Onions to them and that made them awesome. I ordered the Filet & Scallops and my wife had the Filet & Shrimp (with pineapple). The filets were full size and the seafood was generously portioned. The only thing they could have improved on was the servers (not the cook), could have been more attentive- I never got a refill on my beverage. Lastly, the cook made the show fun with some different twists than I've seen before. He was very personable and the food was delicious. Very pricey but awesome food! It's well worth it and go hungry because you will get a TON of food. Like one of the previous reviews, definitely order the filet with shrimp - it is simply awesome. My husband ordered that and I kept eating off his plate. :P I ordered the filet with lobster which was over $10 more that the filet and shrimp, and the lobster was not that good. :( Oh well, everything else is super delicious! Very yummy vegetables and the fried rice has bacon in it! However, if you are looking for a great Teppan Yaki show, this place won't have one. It just has great food, with a very friendly staff. Ridiculously overpriced mediocre food! Even though our chef was pleasant and entertaining, the quality of food was average at best. The grilled vegetables consisted of mainly bean sprouts and onions (cheapest veggies in the produce aisle) and the meats were very poorly seasoned. The vent above the grill didn't work properly and all the heat was directed at the guests seated around the table. My husband and son literally had sweat dripping down their foreheads. Our family is big into teppanyaki for special occasions and us together in Hawaii is one of those times. We have spent upwards of $300 with one drink. The food here was just ok and the prices were much too high for the meal. Normally, teppanyaki is a full course experience, but there was no miso or salad, and the fried rice was extra on top of the meat selection. The full course included a meat/sea food combo and added miso soup and an ice cream but still no salad. The price - $180 for Two!!!! No drinks. Our average for this is $250 for six including tip with non-alcoholic beverages. I expect things to cost more on the island but we were $427!!!!! Not even a luau!!! Very dissatisfied.... read more

If you like Teppan Yaki, then this place won't disappoint. It's a very small restaurant tucked into the Sheraton Maui. The food was tasty. The scallops in particular were amazing -- but you can get the usual filet mignon, lobster, chicken, shrimp, etc. One twist: the fried rice has a ginger flavor. I would have given this a higher rating, but there wasn't much of a "show" relative to the price and other teppan yakis I've been too.. I expected a bit more flipping and drumming. read more

I had a great time at this place. The service was great, I read reviews on here that the service wasn't good but I couldn't disagree more. The food was really good, the chef was fun, and the server taking food and drink orders was very attentive. Great experience. Only downfall is the price, $99 for 2 people. A little pricey, but still fun and we expected it to be expensive so it wasn't a surprise. If you don't mind spending the money, it's a cool restaurant to visit. FYI the restaurant is pretty small, so DEFINITELY call ahead for a reservation. We had a 7 o'clock reservation and we were seated no more than 5 minutes past.
