We were looking for some great tasting Mexican food and we found it here. Even though they were short staffed the service was great. You could tell our waiter was the host, waiter, and bartender. Worst service ever! Served water and chips fast then had to wait 20 mins to get our waiter to take our food order. Hubs ordered chimi, relleno and flauta combo Platter, I ordered chimi, burrito and relleno combo. My crispy relleno was delicious, chimi was good, rice and beans laughable. Hubs soft relleno was just ok. Waiter came back after I finished, asked if we were Ok and never took my finished plate! We sat there another 20 waiting on his return to get check with empty plates on the table. Took another 15 to get receipt and card back while he yukked it up with table across from us. He NEVER took are finished plates! Never again, food not great, service by this guy was awful. I will also add, place was not busy (now I know why) and other waiters and waitresses had their game on. Fantastic Mexican food, very friendly and pronto service. First happy-hour margarita that actually had a kick. The happy-hour items are like meals. Gotta try the taquitos- not at all what you expect!!! More like mini burritos oozing with sumptuous flavor. They have their own unique but delicious style. We arrived in Durango and this was one of a few open later. Good salsa and cold beer Food was ok. Chili verde had good flavor in the sauce but the pork was tough and not fork tender. We stopped in as we were passing through town and happened on this restaurant on main street. Friendly service and very fresh & flavorful food! I had the prawn fajitas, which were juicy and delicious! My husband had the chicken quesadillas which he enjoyed. The servings are generous. Neither one of us could finish our meal. The food and drinks were fantastic. The house margaritas were made from scratch (not a pre-made mix) and was one of the best margaritas I've ever had. The service really suffered. There were two open seats at the bar and one stool had the clean silverware tray on it. The older bartender wouldn't let me sit there since he was working on the silverware. (I've wait staffed before and shouldn't the guests be welcome at the bar stool?) It was busy and the bartenders disappeared for awhile. Food was amazing, I got the mole enchiladas and they were so good. For me the atmosphere of restaurant is key- this restaurant is lacking in that department. Our waiter was really good at remembering our food order, but he barely interacted with us, which I was disappointed in. I understand if it was busy or something but still. Another thing was that they had false advertising for their happy hour. Their menu said happy hour from 2:30 to 6.m, so we ordered our drinks thinking they would be at happy hour price. When we got our tab and it definitely wasn't happy hour price, and we asked about it it was only Mon-Friday and then we told him about the menu and he said nothing. Absolutely amazing food, service and everything in between. I got the chipotle enchiladas, they were spicy but so so good. The guac was great as well as the salsa they bring. My partner got the ranchero tacos and he said they were fantastic. The drinks were strong and definitely worth it. This is the best Mexican food we have had in awhile and we have tons of Mexican restaurants to choose from in Denver. Highly recommend !!! read more

Please don't, just don't. I know it's on downtown main street and as you are walking by it will seem convenient, but don't. It's a chain restaurant. Americanized Mexican food that is bland and comes off the truck frozen. Didn't you come to cute little Durango to experience something you can't get else where? And we have 11 other locally owned more authentic Mexican restaurants in town that will blow your taste buds up in a very happy way. My wife and I called in an order for a quick bite in the evening, what a disappointment !! We order 2 bean tostadas to go and it was horrible!! The tortillas were very soggy and it was all lettuce on top here's the best part, when we went to pick up our order, get this it was $19.50 !!!! Without a tip !!! 4 stars is outrageous for this business. It should be higher! Service was fast and professional. Although skeptical of Mexican food in Durango, I was more than happy about everything here. Not only was the entrees great, the sides were awesome as well. I've never finished my rice at any other Mexican restaurant, but I did a double of it here (and finished!). I have to also add that they follow the Colorado COVID mask law and allow the exceptions contained therein. I was turned away from some establishments in Durango but Tequila's does not practice discrimination against those with medical disabilities. The prices were average to low and the amount of food ensures you will not go away hungry. I wish they would move to Texas! read more

First off, I have to say we loved the cabbage slaw that came with the chips and salsa. My husband had the mole with pork shanks and I had a combination platter. The Chili relleno was perfect in size and filling...and the chili's flavor was just the right amount of heat. Honestly can't say anything about the beans and rice because I had way too much food! Staff was incredibly rude!! Walked in and waited on a nice quiet afternoon. After waiting a while a man came over and we asked for two booths (there were plenty- was not busy) for our party of 8- he abruptly said he didn't have two next to each other and immediately took menus and seated the party behind us without another word and left. We continued to wait for him to return since we didn't mind the booths being separate. He refused to return, looked at us several times from the back area, the bartender also refused to acknowledge us and gestured rudely as we left- I have no idea what was going on but I don't care how good the food is- staff is awful. A store employee in a shop down the strip heard us talking and said a woman had been in recently saying how rude the staff were to her as well. We came here with a group of five people for lunch. Service was attentive and they have a great selection of lunch and dinner options! I had some dietary restrictions that the server was very attentive and courteous about. He got everyone's order correct and out quickly. He was quick to refill water, alcoholic beverages and the chips and salsa. We had such a lovely time and everyone enjoyed their meals. We waited until the last day of or trip to try this place...our mistake! We would have gone twice if we found it earlier. Don't let the crazy colors throw you off, they are just a sign of flavorful, authentic food that lies ahead. Huge portion sizes too and a massive drink selection. Wait stuff really work together as a team and have personality. We accidentally forgot to omit the somewhat spicy sauce from our kiddos burrito and they immediately took it back and had a nee burrito out 5 minutes later (no questions asked). I also love the fact that they have photos on their menu. Not super classy, but super helpful and the food does come out looking as good or better than the pics. We tried several entrees, quesadillas, poblano enchiladas, carne guisada, and Alambre. Our favorite was Alambre and we raved about the fajita meat in the quesadillas. Tequila's Mexican Restaurant serves up some very tasty Mexican food at this Durango location. We were promptly seated and given some great chips and tasty homemade salsa. For dinner I ordered the pork enchiladas and they were excellent. Good flavor and some good spice to boot. They had a green enchilada sauce and I mixed in some of their salsa for some added kick. The rice and refried beans were also good. My wife enjoyed the bean and cheese enchiladas. To wash everything done we had strawberry and raspberry margaritas, which were also tasty. Mine was leaded up didn't seem to have much punch to it. Although the restaurant was pretty noisy, the service was good, and the food was great. I was hungry for Mexican food, and although this spot looked like it had a few more inventive things alongside the standard Mexican fare, I was disappointed in my carnitas. The pork came out looking good, like it had been griddled a little bit and would have nice crispy edges and chewy bits, but turned out to be pretty dried out, almost entirely chewy bits. I've had carnitas that was too greasy or oily before, and that's no fun, but this was the opposite of that, cooked too long or maybe trimmed too close with no fat to melt in to the meat. It's not health food, I'm OK with some delicious fat in a dish like this! Flavor was OK, but could have been better - again maybe over trimmed and no nice pork fat flavor. I also seem mentioned in another review the overly sweet salsa - I would say sugar added, and about 50% onion to boot...really not all that great. Needs more acid tang, more chile heat...some real work, I think. So...if I was really desperate for Mexican I would try this again, but I'm betting in a location like Durango, there's better Mexican to be had, and (perhaps unfairly) based on just this one dish, I'd try another spot before returning. read more
