Use to have table service, now it's like a fast food service but no drive thru. Stand in line and wait for food. The Yakisoba is a Japanese noodles dish served all over Japan. Teri Cafe has been the spot since I was in High School over 30 years ago. Yikes!!! The original location was in the roundabout buildings that used to be where the current Target parking lot is. Miss that spot! But they had something that was waaaayyy too good to be contained! Now there are something like 80 locations and they all crush! Seriously I've been to 3 of the locations and the food is exactly the same...excellent!!! My wife is Japanese Hawaiian and so this is comfort food. I have tried practically everything on the menu and cannot say that I've been disappointed once. However, my "go to's" have been to get a roll, (current fave is the Grinch roll) and tonkatsu aka pork cutlet. It's a panko breaded, fried and sliced chop (or chicken if you prefer) laid on top of a scoop of rice with a green salad and dollop of potato salad on side. If you dine in you also get a bowl of miso soup. A few of my favorite flavors are the salad dressing which can be bottled and ordered to take home. Another one nice on the taste buds is to put the tonkatsu sauce over the meat and let it drip into the rice and then bring on the Siracha! Oh ya! I just had it last night for our Fathers Day meal. I can save you some money. Go to COSTCO and buy a large box of random Asian bowl meals and take them home. Put one in the microwave for 5 times longer than the package instructions. Now you've got Teri Café at a great cost savings. For the most accurate Teri Café experience at home it's recommended that you have a microwave oven that goes to 11. I used to enjoy the big plate back when they were just small in Oceanside shopping center. This place was recommended to us by a friend so decided to try it out. Love the aloha vibe and the decor is pretty island-y. Menu is fairly large and ranges from teriyaki plates to ramen to sushi and lots of stuff in between. They have a separate Aloha menu on the side which carries some other special items. We just got a bunch of stuff and shared everything. Value (4): Portion sizes were pretty decent and everything was priced fair. Food (4): Everything that we got was good but nothing mind blowing. The ramen had good broth. The spicy banzai had a ton of stuff in it but wasn't really spicy. There's a huge bottle of sriracha at every table so you can add more spice accordingly. The teri was good. The sushi was good. Everything was good. Ambience (4): Laid back and chill. Open seating. No problems finding a spot to fit us and our kids. Service (5): Food came out super fast and was hot. Every staff member that we interacted with was friendly. You order up front and take a number to a table. I've been dining at Teri's since when it was just starting up in the mid 2000's. It was in the Target and Joann's shopping center. The food has always been good. Today a server spilled a cup of sauce all over my phone, clothes, table, seat. Although it was an accident I was upset and couldn't finish my meal. Upset because no one acted like they cared. All young staff with no training about how to handle the situation. Finally a full twenty minutes later Justin came over and asked how it was. He said he's a Teri cafe family member. I said my dining experience had been ruined and I could hardly eat my meal and no one had been by to check on me or cleaned up the dirty towels off my table. He got defensive and did not truly hear my frustration. He gave me the prerequisite apology, said he had just heard about the spill and asked me if he could do anything. I said it was up to him. Although I knew exactly what he and the staff should have done it's not on me to give him/them a lesson about how to handle customer service issues. And I'm not going to teach it here. We did a decent order for take home; a couple spicy ramen soups, one vegetable udon soup, a couple spicy tuna rolls. They told me 15' till the food would be ready; within 15' ingot a text from the restaurant that the food was ready! The quality of ramen was decent but not great; the broth could be a bit spicier but, mainly, it lacked a bit of substance, should be more flavorful. The boiled egg was hard boiled vs soft like most ramen places. The tonkotsu was very salty yet pretty tender. The udon was decent, the spicy tuna rolls also tasty. I would love to give this place 4 stars; its service was deserving that but the food was 3 to 3.5 stars. I would try this place again to see whether or not the ramen broth "had an off night"; if it will be the same, I will maintain that there are other places to try and get better ramen. I look forward to trying Teri Cafe again. read more

I was introduced to this place after moving to Oceanside, and I can say that with full assurance that Teri Cafe is now one of my go to locations. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of relaxed San Diego mixed with the charm of a hole-in-the-wall. The menu prices are a great value, and I always leave feeling like I received my moneys worth and more. While a bit challenging at first that you don't get a table until after you order, this helps to keep the flow fast paced. I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes from paying to receiving my meal. From all of my work experiences, the staff has been nothing but friendly and outgoing. There's also no chance that they'll join your conversation, so no risk of awkwardness that you may get at other restaurants. The only minus would be that for this location, parking can sometimes be a challenge since it's located in a fairly busy business park off El Camino, so traffic may be a factor against. But make sure you try and get a window view so you can make up for that with a lovely view of the Carlsbad hills. Now to plan my next visit. read more

First visit to Teri Cafe today. The people there are so friendly, service was great and it was quick. The restaurant was very clean and open. I got a Teriyaki Chicken bowl and Tempura Shimp. The tempura shrimp was excellent, the batter was light, crunchy and tasty and the sauce was delicious as well. I hadn't had a teriyaki chicken bowl from anywhere for a long time and was excited to try theirs. There was a really good portion of rice and chicken. The teriyaki sauce was very tasty, wished there was a little more, they probably would have provided it but I didn't ask, my fault. I did expect more veggies....there were 3 slices of carrots and one piece of broccoli. With that said, the bowl was very good and I ended up taking some home as I couldn't eat it all in one sitting. Looking forward to finishing it up later tonight! Will definitely go back but will ask for extra veggies and a bit more teriyaki sauce next time. My go to is the Chicken Udon with fish broth, udon noodle, chicken breast meat, fish cake, boiled egg, green onion and tempura chips! Absolutely delicious! All the plates are good too! This used to be my favorite place. I recently had two bad experiences with this location dealing bad food handling clearly. Because I have gotten diarrhea twice for this location. When I called today after instantly getting sick they didn't want to offer me a refund. It's sad that they rather refunding me. They said I may having a chronic issue and unless I have have a doctors note stating it's food poisoning they're not refunding me. Chicken breast sliced with a run of the mill Teriyaki sauce, rice was rice, and the salad had a decent dressing. I also ordered a roll, it was the worst roll i've had. The fish was super suspect, slimy and smelly. Tried one piece and couldn't stomach the rest. Won't be back. There's other places with 3 stars that beat this place hands down. I don't get it. read more
