What can I say about Teriyaki Don? I have been coming here for a decade or more, and it is always a real treat whenever I am in the area. While the portions have gotten a bit smaller over time, you still get a solid amount for what you pay, and the food quality has remained great throughout the years. Their specials (Monday through Saturday) offer awesome value and make it easy to try out new items on the menu. My personal favorite is definitely the Spicy Teriyaki Don that it actually made me such a fan of their spice blend that I had to go out and find the seasonings to keep at home! The atmosphere is consistently vibrant. It can get pretty packed during rush hours, so taking an order to go is sometimes the go to, but when it isn't overly busy, dining in is a great experience. If anyone from management happens to read this, please bring back the complimentary veggie bar! It has been missed ever since COVID. Ireally didn't want to leave a negative review, especially since the restaurant did refund my meal, and I appreciate that. However, I think people should know what happened. I found a metal screw in my food while I was eating. Thankfully I noticed it before swallowing it, but it was shocking and could have caused a serious injury. Finding something like that raises concerns about quality control and food safety. To the restaurant's credit, they apologized and promptly refunded my order, which I appreciate. Still, a refund doesn't change the fact that this happened. I hope they take this seriously, investigate how it occurred, and improve their kitchen processes so it doesn't happen to someone else. Very welcoming when walking inside, bright lights, easy signed to follow. Food service was quick, we ordered takeout and no lines, food was ready to pick up upon arrival. I added in pot stickers and did not have to wait. The food was ok. I got the spicy chicken salad. The breading did not stick to the chicken. I felt like there was more breading than chicken but flavorful, the chicken was dry. Pot stickers were great as always. This place feels like a shell of the former glory of an amazing place to eat. For years, my usual here was the seafood or chicken curry. In the past, one of my fav places in Fresno to get curry. Now, the last couple times, it was very thick and not very good. Transforming into something I'd never order again. Same with the chicken or beef ginger. It used to be amazing. Now, the last couple of times I've had it, it was different, very salty and the rice was weirdly clumpy. The upholstery on the booths is coming apart and the table space has become bare, compared to how it was pre pandemic (no more free dressing and stick salads). So disappointed today!!! I called in at 11:46am to place my lunch order and was told it'd be about 25mins. Ok no problem, let me give them 30 mins. I walked in at 12:15pm to pay and it's still not ready. Ok, no problem maybe 5 more minutes.... NO!!! It was almost 12:30pm!!!! I had to go to the front and ask how much longer of a wait and the lady told me a few more minutes. And when she handed me my food there was apologies no nothing, just handed me my food and walked away. These people need better customer service especially when you already know that the customer is already upset!!! Did I mention, when I first walked to the register there were 2 cashiers. One Hmong girl and a Mexican girl with highlights in a ponytail. When the Mexican one was done with the customer in front of me, as I was walking up she just walked away!!! Really great food. I haven't been able to make it to the restaurant in about 7 to 8 years. The last time I was there it was when I took my Mom there and we had dinner together. She loved it to. It was a special night for us. That memory will be with me forever The service is great, everyone is friendly and the meals are abundant. Teriyaki Don has been a staple in my family for years, it's a Fresno classic. The portions of the food have always been good, the staff is friendly, the store is clean, and the prices are great. I love going on weekends because they have their spicy crispy chicken on special, and you really can't beat the price for how much you get. I typically take 2 days to finish the bowl! I also appreciate that you can order the spice on the side and ranch on the side when ordering takeout. The staff themselves are always attentive and helpful, and service is incredibly fast. I typically order and it's ready within 10-15 minutes. Not to mention the teriyaki sauce is superb. The crispy chicken has come out overcooked or randomly soggy on the bottom sometimes but it's rare. I've been going here for over a decade....and it has changed with time... As costs have risen, the vast menu has shrunk and the costs have been passed on to the consumer. A few menu items now gone that I really loved was the fried squid, and also the carrots/celery/cabbage raw veggies with dressing which really balanced out the fried food quite well. There are also fewer tables for people to sit and dine in. That makes sense, since most folks order food online (or possibly by phone) for take out. Even so, the food is pretty good, and this is still my favorite fast food Teriyaki place in town. I especially like the combo plates with either tempura shrimp and chicken, or beef and chicken. The gyoza, veggie tempura, and udon noodles are all very good. When I've ordered online, I've been able to pick up my food at the time promised. Most of the time, my order has been accurate. When something is wrong, it is always corrected quickly without issue. I hope when food prices go down, Teriyaki Don will consider returning some of the menu items they cut...but until then, I'm still happy to stop by and pick up dinner for the family from this place--especially on days I really don't feel like cooking. read more

It was solid. We got a few udon soups, and I got a yaki udon with chicken. This is apropos of nothing, but the chicken is REALLY good with kimchi (that we got separately at a market). Otherwise, pretty saucy, with an overabundance of green onion. They don't offer a vegetable tempura udon, which is a weird thing to leave off an offering of udon, so they charged us for a plain udon and a side of veggie tempura. We were surprised when the plates came out because we were expecting the donburi with egg, come to find out don can be anything over rice in a bowl. The beef was better quality and thicker than expected. We were thinking of the super thin beef from Yoshinoya but this was more hefty. All chicken was breast meat so a little dry, the spicy seasoning was really good and the breading on the crispy chicken was delicious. Side salad and gyoza were tasty. Soda machine was awesome, very customizable. Portions are good, enough to have leftovers for a smaller meal. Weather was good enough to sit outside on one of their outdoor tables with our dog. This may just be my second review on this place. It is fresnos best teriyaki house in my opinion! So if you're in for some katsu or some tempura...stop here for that! Service is a bit long if it is busy....but yeah, it pays to have patience....and this place is soooo tasty. If I could do half stars I would have rated everything 3.5 stars but I rounded up for the delicious food. When you first walk in you receive a greeting and the customer service is fine. We tried the Chicken Teriyaki Don and California Roll. The California Roll was delicious and freshly packed with so much rice and filling. Sometimes sushi is so thin you are left hungrier than before, that is not an issue over here. The Chicken Teriyaki Don plate was very filling and full of delicious flavor, only down side is a few of my chicken pieces were overcooked and it was straight dry and hardened. Thankfully, it was only a few bites that were over charred and I was still able to enjoy everything. The chicken is on a bed of rice and the side salad is good with what I'm assuming may be a sesame dressing. The cup of teriyaki sauce that it comes with is plenty for both the chicken and rice. The teriyaki sauce is a thinner sweet umami flavor which I enjoyed. The establishment itself is not the cleanest and looks a bit outdated, worn, and there seems to be grime stuck on the floor and trash around the soda fountain. Our service was quick during closing time. I wouldn't feel comfortable sitting down and eating in the establishment but I would definitely recommend take-out services. It's been a verrrry long time since I've been back here... why? No particular reason other than I literally forget about them until I drive pass their restaurant and I'm like-- "Ooh, Teriyaki Don!" But each time, I keep driving. Not this time... we finally stopped & dined in. It looks like how I remember it, though I remember more tables to sit at? I could be wrong. There were like 3 tables and 3 booths? One booth designated for their break time (that we didn't notice right off the bat when we sat down-- it was about that time... so we moved). They did say it was okay to sit there but we sat elsewhere anyways, just in case. This is definitely not an aesthetic spot, but I'd consider this more a take-out restaurant with the option of dining in, if you wanted to. Once upon a time... we were able to go up to the counter and grab as many carrot sticks and dressing as we wanted-- that's no longer a thing. Shame. But I understand... they knew what could make them more money and they capitalized on it! Now, you have to buy the extra dressing (delicious, btw) but bummer for my wallet. I was trying to get him to order the Salmon (cause I wanted that too) but I also really wanted the spicy, crispy chicken ... he did too. Now that I think about it, I should've just ordered the Salmon and ate off his chicken but whatever-- too late now lol. Chicken isn't always my first choice when I eat out, but because this is what I was introduced to my first time-- I stuck with it. Also, it's not spicy (for me) but I like the extra flavor/kick it adds. One plate is definitely enough to share, but the leftovers were just as good a few hours down the line. We both got a combo, which comes with the chicken&rice, 2 pot stickers (I didn't care for these), salad, and a drink. You get sauce for the pot stickers and teriyaki sauce with the chicken, and of course dressing on the salad... but not enough. I spent 40ish on both plates plus an additional 10 before we left-- had to get some of that dressing to go! It's a hefty price, but I've spent far more on far less. The portions are great, and the food is good. Maybe next time I'll try their beef because I'm surprised I haven't yet. Staff was friendly and they worked fast. There were only a couple people ahead of us in line to get our order taken... and we didn't wait too long for our food either. Also, I like that they had the cool drink machine with the variety to choose from... everywhere should have this, honestly. I'm sorry but I just don't understand the hype this place has. I have nothing against the business, they have really nice, really friendly, really helpful customer service and that in itself would have kept me coming back but their food is just not it. We ordered a few things to try. The meat was dry and overcooked, their salad is basically just spinach and their seafood (shrimp & imitation crab) tasted old. The best thing on my plate was the steamed rice. The establishment is located at the end of a small shopping mall, it's clean and there's seating inside and out. It was $9 came with breaded chicken, rice, salad. It wasn't spicy, at all. I see they added chili but the chili wasn't spicy. Chicken itself didn't have flavor but the teriyaki sauce added a nice touch of sweet and salty. Rice was nicely cooked. Salad was okay, had a white sauce on it, a mayo based dressing. (2/5) Veggie tempura: crispy, light, veggies were fully cooked. They fried bell peppers, I've never seen anywhere include bell peppers. Not a fan of that, but I'm sure someone else will. Both plates steaks are supposed to be medium rare and they came extra well as hell. Dry and tough. I didnt have time to complain about my order, I was too hungry so I ate it. 30 mins is long enough for my steak and chicken and shrimp to come out sizzling hot, but it literally tasted like it was cooked a long time ago and it cooled off to warm. Some times it's better to remember a place for the way it was then to go back and be disappointed. There used to be a condiment bar with celery and carrots all the white sauce you could squeeze out of a bottle. I ordered two plates from here for pick up. One of them was the traditional teriyaki chicken plate with a small side salad and white rice. Of course the house dressing they use for the salad is so good I order extra each time I get here. The other plate I ordered was the spicy chicken plate which came with a side salad and white rice as well. Both plates are a big portion and for most you can finish in one sitting if you have a smaller pallet then you can make it into 2 meals. Service was quick and easy even though it was lunch time and they are normally always busy. The front counter was fast and polite and easy to add anything extra as well. Seriously, the two California rolls, served as sides, may have been made and formed as rolls, but upon opening the container, they looked like a sushi salad. I always love to order their assortment of extra sauces as well, such as tempura and ponzu. I'm so sad to say that Teriyaki Don has completely fell off. Everyone's stomachs hurt after eating here. It was really bad. The spicy crispy chicken plates we got were so bad. The chicken wasn't crispy. The salad wasn't fresh and I had to pick a bunch out because they were wilted and had black on the ends of the greens. I'm not sure what's up with these huge pieces of chicken coated in a ridiculous amount of batter but the crispy part was non existent as the chicken was soggy. Growing up this was the place to go to for teriyaki but sadly the quality and taste has gone down hill. Kenji's has took over in Fresno and they really are the better and tastier option. I suggest bringing back the original style of the crispy chicken with the thinner chicken and the crispy coating because I'm not sure what's going on now. read more

The menu still has a decent lineup--something for everyone--but the quality has gone down hill and increased their prices. We also miss the extra free sauce and salad bar. No care at all about the presentation and the rice was just regular rice not sushi rice. There was literally little to no eel in the roll at all. Felt like I was just eating rice and avocado. The cut was very uneven, skinny then thick. I also got a plate with their beef and chicken and it's very under seasoned but nothing a little salt can't fix.
