Stopped in for dinner while charging our Tesla at nearby Superchargers. Wasn't expecting much, but it was simple and did the job. Nothing fancy, booths lining the walls. Prices were pretty good and the portion sizes were huge! We ordered 3 plates for 4 people and even so, we were barely able to finish. Everything came in to-go packaging. We had Teriyaki Express as a work lunch and it really hit the spot. I liked that the bento box had a salad, rice, 2 pieces of tempura shrimp, 2 mini eggrolls, and the beef. It was a lot of food for not a lot of money. The extra bit of rice was perfect for an afternoon snack when we didn't have a lot of time due to our project. The soy sauce they gave us wasn't very good. It didn't really taste like anything. That's really the only negative about this spot. Nice generous portions the terriyaki sauce seeps into the rice below. Every single adult in our party was raving about this place and said "is there any place near home that has something like this" The sad answer is "no" . For price , comfort and just being different than what we typically order Terriyaki Express has a simple name, simple decor but an absolutely amazing singular dish (Chicken Terriayki bowl) that will make me want to plan out a stop for gas in Soledad in the future for a delicous cheap meal. We were on our way north and had to make a pit stop in this area. We found this hole in the wall and thought we d give them a try. The lady took care of our order expeditiously and before we could blink.... our order was ready. Stopped by on the the way to Pismo Beach based on the good Yelp reviews. I have to say that I don't really understand the almost 5 star rating. We ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl (which though was an ample serving, we found to be dry & not very different to bottled teriyaki). The steak teriyaki bowl was tastier. My son ordered the fish & chips & that was a generous serving though the chips/fries were unsalted & that's always a no-no for me. As for ambiance, the front of the store was pretty clean & neat but the bathroom was not. I always judge a restaurants kitchen by its bathroom & the pictures here speak for themselves. Come on people. Just get out some bleach & wipe down your bathroom doors, trash cans & sinks. It's not that difficult but makes a world of difference! read more

We figured the odds of stopping for food in Soledad and finding something worth helping about were slim but Teriyaki Express was amazing. The restaurant was clean, the owners were really nice and the food was perfect. It's the highest quality chicken, beef and veg that I've ever had at a teriyaki place. I came here for a lunch break during a long road trip and this place didn't disappoint! It was a nice atmosphere and a cozy spot and the food was great! I split a chicken teriyaki plate and gyozas with a sister and I'm so glad I did, because it was a lot of food for the price of around $12! Also, the fresh steamed vegetables with our plate were fantastic and everything in general was very fresh. This is definitely a family business which is always a plus, and service was great! Always stop here on the way home from the Bay Area. Super good food. Very clean style. The prices are so good for what you get. Huge portions of meat in the meals. The fact that you can upgrade the veggies from steamed to tempura for 25 cents is INSANE. Not only is that usually like a $5-$7 upgrade anywhere else, but this place legitimately has the best tempura I've ever had.
