Terra used to be a favorite. After being told they only accommodate 1/3 of the restaurant for walk-in I checked them off of my regular restaurants. Pretty pretentious IMO. Especially when you walk in w lots of open tables and they tell you there's an hour wait. The food is fabulous. The Staff is great. It's all overpriced. Absolutely loved this place! One of the best brunches I've had. Great food, attentive service, and lovely atmosphere. There wasn't one thing I didn't like about Terra. Really nice space with lots of natural lighting, high ceilings, wood accents - a mix of modern and industrial. Our waitress had a great knack for making sure our water/coffee was always full and checking up on us once or twice, but not being too bothersome or over-checking on us. I had the pork belly hash with poached eggs which was to die for. There was a healthy portion of thick-cut pork belly which was crispy but also lightly coated in maple syrup which made for a luscious taste. The seasonal root vegetables were perfectly cooked, and the cheese blend was just a light sprinkle which was great and didn't overpower the dish. My mom and sister had the hair of the dog bowl (essentially biscuits and gravy in a bowl) and the fritatta which were both delicious as well. Bonus points for a very well-labeled menu! Love when they indicate which dishes are gluten free, dairy free, etc. They have lots of options for vegan, vegetarians, and dairy/gluten free eaters. They also use pastured meats, cage free eggs, and local/seasonal produce and products which is awesome. I'm always willing to pay a little extra for great ingredients. Terra GR has 2 things I love - an awesome happy hour and a delicious breakfast pizza. The happy hour offers deals on most of their drinks and discounts on certain appetizers, salads and pizzas. All of the pizzas are delicious! If you're looking for a good brunch menu on the weekends, you have to try the breakfast pizza! I recommend adding the fennel sausage to the pizza as well. Terra GR also offers free custom printer menus for special occasions - just make sure you mention it when you call for your reservation! read more

Been here three times in the last two weeks because it's that good. Happy hour deal is great and their service is top notch. Pizza over is on point - mushroom house made mozzarella is one of the most delicately balance pizzas I've had in a while. The rotating dessert special always features fresh seasonal fruit and I've had it each and every time. The bar is fully stocked and Riley not only is knowledge about beer and spirits - she tailors your drink to you and makes you feel welcome. She makes these cherries that will blow your mind. I stick by my description of Terra GR as overrated. Don't get me wrong - there are some things they do well, but many that they don't. Certainly, there is no way I would give them a 5-star rating in any event, but I understand why some without much experience might. This place has a fun and cheerful, energetic ambiance and the decor is modern and comfortable. The service is fair, but certainly not great. It can also vary quite a bit from good to lackluster. Consistently good service is needed to get 5 stars in my book. The food quality varies even more than the service. It can be anywhere from good to downright awful. The drinks can be ok, but most are not. Their Old Fashioned is technically an Old Fashioned based on ingredients, but it tastes like grandpa's cough medicine. The simple fare (pizza, burgers, salads) is good, although the value is questionable ($13 for a burger is reasonable if it knocks your socks off and comes with a great side, but theirs comes with pickled cauliflower...) Where they really fall flat is the stab at higher-end cuisine. Even simpler stuff like Chicken & Biscuits can fail (mine has been too dry and tough.) The desserts can be good, but I would not get the "Vegan Chocolate Cake", which is essentially a big bowl of packing peanuts with "bleh" on top. Any place that can't get the majority of their menu right shouldn't garner a 4+ star rating in my book. It's a decent place and can be fun, though. My kids love the pizza, though, and they have always been treated well by the waitstaff. If I do come here, it's for an early dinner with the family when I don't feel like having a cocktail. read more

We just had a wonderful breakfast here! We're up from Chicago, visiting friends and this was our first time at this spot. Cory was our waiter and he was exceptional! Great service and he had a wonderful way of entertaining all my stupid silly questions like, "what do you love and would you recommend _______?" 2 of our party ordered the hair of the dog bowl (one with the PBR too!) And it was delicious! Very flavorful. The only complaint was that it wasn't as much as I had hoped for. It was a decent portion but I wanted just a little bit more. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and it was great! The meat was thinly shaved so different than some Cubans I've had before. Great combo of flavors and the pickle wasn't too overpowering. Fantastic farm to table eatery located in a fun and trendy area of GR. During a recent business trip, we had a dinner function at Terra...party of approx 15 people. Although the parking situation was temporarily a challenge due to construction, everything else was nearly perfect. We ordered a mixture of appetizers....the highlights coming from the hummus served with veggies and the cheese plate. For the main course, I ordered the Salmon served with Farro and Kale. This is a tough review to write, but unfortunately a disappointing experience at Terra. We had guests in town wanting to have a great, fresh burger...so we headed to Terra. We were seated at a high top table facing the kitchen/cooks. While we ordered 2 medium and 2 medium rare burgers, we were served 4 burgers that were lifted out of a sitting pan on the side (not grilled fresh) and burnt past well done. Worst yet, when the waiter asked how everything was, we showed him the four burgers and shared our disappointment...result "sorry I'll let the cooks know." I recognize no restaurant is perfect but digging our burgers out of a warming tray and then reconciling the situation by just letting the cooks know...not my idea of someplace I would go back to. We love this place! We recently moved to the area and this is one of our favorite restaurants. We have dined in a few times and enjoyed numerous take out orders. The flavors here are amazing. Some favorites have been the Italian beef sandwich, kale caesar, mushroom pizza (add the bLis truffle oil!) and mushroom risotto. The takeout pop up menus have been fun and included some great features as well! The chicken paprikash, lamb and pepper ragu and dill pickle soup were all fantastic. Terra is the perfect example of what every restaurant should be. Fresh and local ingredients are worth every penny. I highly recommend coming during happy hour which is 3-6 daily. Salads are 1/2 off, pizzas are $10 and drinks are $2.50 off. To drink I had the Terra 75 which was gin, organic lavender, lemon, and sparkling wine. It was perfect for those that like tart and not too sweet drinks. Also there drinks are strong which makes it worth the money as well! I'm a huge fan of their salads because they were huge! No one likes paying 10 dollars for a few pieces of lettuce. The miso vinaigrette was delicious I wish I could take home a bottle of it. (Even tho their website does say that lunch goes until 3.) Pros: industrial romantic feeling decor, super clean bathrooms. Bar is also very unique, and a killer happy hour (half off large salads, app specials and beer specials too!) Ordered the buffalo cauliflower as an appetizer, definitely recommend to try! perfectly dressed, and served with a petite salad! Negatives: Waited 10 minutes outside for service, had to walk inside to ask for a server to come to our table. (Remind you, empty restaurant and they had just opened back up for dinner.) Corey ended up being our server, very kind and apologetic for our wait time. Also, salads were lacking flavor. Ended up having to ask for lemon for the kale ceaser, because the dressing didn't even have taste. Watermelon salad was delightful, definitely on the smaller side which the server did warn me about. Nope! Not again. Had a little brunch at Terra today. The waiter recommended the steak the eggs special. I was interested in the omelette special which sounded good planned on Ordering it. But then he recommended I go with the steak and eggs special instead. Very strongly recommended! It was very very disappointing. Mcdonnells breakfast would've been better. And I struggle feeding that to my dog. I really expected better. I'm top of all that it was $25. For a Slimy, Fatty, gristle pieces of strip steak. That I was told would be ribeye. I normally don't even eat steak or beef but with such a strong recommendation I did. Big mistake I could never recommend This place again. Anytime someone asks me where I want to go to lunch I always promptly and immediately say Terra. Although the whole menu is great, the best thing ever is the kale Caesar salad with pulled turkey. The flavors are spot on and the kale itself has a better consistency than other kale I have had. The pizzas are also very good as are many of the sandwiches. We have been there for brunch as well which is a treat. I especially like the mini apple cinnamon bun. They are sticky and delicious. Definitely a great place to go for any meal. I quite appreciate a place that does a good salad. In my humble opinion, that makes a good restaurant. What makes a great restaurant you ask? Oh, just the best customer service and a super local, super fresh vibe and a super bangin' beer list. I had the Miso Kale Salad and added chicken to it and I left feeling full and happy and like I loved miso even more than I previously did. How do restaurants always perfectly dress a salad? I'm terrible at it, but this was right on. Furthermore, our server Rachel was amazing and brought out our toddler's food first. I realize it's a small thing - but it's huge in our book. It get's him to sit still for a minute and a half. So we always appreciate a server that recognizes that we have a child and do not pretend he's invisible. And they are not really interested in the business that sits there. Drinks are good though. Now on to the food: Cubans should never have mayo or aioli or lettuce or veggies, never ever. One word MOJO, wish it had some and that someone had remembered to put mustard on it too. And a baguette for a Cuban? Discovered Terra GR on a recent visit back to GR and made a reservation for brunch. This is hands down the best brunch restaurant in Grand Rapids. I'm sure it's wonderful for lunch and dinner as well, but brunch blew me away. The food was incredible. I mean...UNBELIEVABLE. A foodie's dream. Price point is perfect - $10-$15 average brunch dish. A great place to eat if your food flavor standards are low, and your primary barometer of quality is "feels like a Pinterest page". Gave Terra two tries. One dinner. One brunch. Staff was ok, but slow, and reasonably inattentive. Empty water. Waiting for another drink. I had the Spaghetti Bolognese in which the pasta was cooked perfectly, which is rad... But the flavors were muted, muddy and boring. ZzzzZz. Revisited for brunch because it's supposed to me "OMG mind blowing" and it just wasn't. At all. Bloody Mary was really good, and should be for $12 or whatever it is after you make it with Tequila. Service was just ok. My Salmon scramble was slightly one level above what a college student with a Facebook interest in "Food" and a hot plate would prepare. Completely boring. Minimal flavor, and someone forgot the salt. The requested hot sauce (green, looks like Puréed jalapeno or Serrano) was really good, the highlight actually. The rest of the menu looks like the chef stumbled across a copy of Food Network magazine and then re-created them... but with a wood oven and local ingredients of course!
