The building from the outside may be a little odd, but this place has a rather legendary history. Santa Fe was the biggest college bar/club scene around UMD, and unfortunately I only got to experience it on its last night of operations, right before Terrapins Turf took over. I didn't come to this place right away when it opened, but when I did, it was for brunch. At $10 for bottomless mimosas, and reasonably priced breakfast options, what could possibly go wrong? So I met a friend there, and I was surprised to see how empty it was! If I recall, my friend and I were one of maybe two or other parties in the entire place, and it's pretty spacious! If you go with the bottomless mimosa option, they leave a pitcher on the table and refill it as soon as you're done. I got an omelet and some bacon and was quite satisfied. And with no one around, it just felt really chill. Fast forward to my most recent visit several years later, it really hasn't changed! We were literally the only party in there, but they were playing Caribbean music the entire time. I was definitely in my zone. And this time, I can give a big shout out to the dude who really took care of us: Mike. The mimosa pitcher came quickly, and he graciously took food orders. I had 4 fluffy and filling pancakes and sausage, and was quite stuffed. I left without even having to pay $20, but I can't help but wonder... when is the place crowded??? Happy Hour: Cheap apps and over-priced drinks with cool delivery methods (ex. fishbowl, beer tower). Come around 3pm-ish during months with nice weather to cop a desirable table! Night scene: Exactly you expect at a college bar, but depending on the night, the amount of people (empty vs. packed) and the music can vary (pop, EDM, etc). Shambly bathrooms, and the lights turn on around 1:30am when they kick everyone out. Brunch: Honestly so surprised that Turf has actual food outside of drinks and apps. Once I got over the fact I was at Turf in broad daylight at 11am, I decided to get the crab eggs benedict with home fries. It was pretty good, a bit cold when I got it, and the hollandaise sauce had mysteriously solidified in its plastic condiment container. However, both eggs atop my crab cake + English muffin stacks were poached well with a runny yolk. This was about $15 (with tax + tip). Other orders at the table included multiple omelettes (comes with home fries and side of bacon/sausage), and a steak quesadilla (which was sort of sad). The endless mimosas are $10 with the purchase of food, adding on to the previous night's hangover by sophisticatedly sipping from a plastic champagne flute; refills depended on how often waitresses drift around with the plastic pitcher. Ehhh- I was not impressed with this place at all. We came here because they were having wings for 50 cents each. Also, they had long islands for $5.00. The inside of the bar smelled really bad, so we decided to eat outside. The outside seating area was relaxing and chill, but the chairs were all frayed and old. It did not feel presentable to me. However, our waiter was really friendly and nice. She was attentive and polite. In terms of food, I did not enjoy it at all. I did not feel it was worth my calories and 50 cents. When you get the deal it does not come with celery, which I love. Also, the wings are soggy and flavorless. I ordered old bay honey and lemon pepper and I could not tell the difference between the two flavors. The old bay honey bay was slightly sweeter, but seriously I think they use the same sauce for everything. I would not be back here for happy hour. I would rather go try somewhere new. read more

It's game day! Go anywhere before terrapin's turf. During our last visit, we sat for 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order. The place was relatively empty, especially for game day... We were soon to find out why. After flagging down our server who told us that she takes food orders but won't mess with the bar... Wait what?! we headed to the bar for drinks. Cheap crappy college drinks (but we expected this). Having worked in the service industry and having survived my fair share of game days, I know pushing liquor is key to walking out with a pocket full of tips. None of this makes sense to us. Still no menus. I sipped my regular vodka soda as we finally went to the bar for menus. We ordered nachos and some kind of avocado wrap from our server who miraculously reappears. We wait, wait some more. Continue to wait in the bar line for additional drinks. Someone who is not our server brings out the food which isn't as ordered. The nachos were OK. Just a tad of nacho cheese over plain corn chips, with a side of salsa... Barely nachos. The avocado wrap was actually surprisingly good... But not enough to save any portion of this visit. I go to the bathroom which is expectedly gross. We finish our food and drinks we go through the expected hassle of having to get the bill and pay. We don't attempt to split the bill. We know better. Homophobic owner. Got kicked out for being gay. Never got an apology I walked by him in my cactus shirt while dancing. I'm 21 years old. He is about 55 years old. I think I glanced at him while I walked by, but I never turned my body towards him and I was walking by him so I was only in his vicinity for a few seconds. Then, he calls over one of the bouncers and kicks me out. I wasn't drunk or belligerent, I only had one shot. I stand outside the club in shock and talking to the bouncers and asking if I was seriously just kicked out for walking (while dancing). They tell me I just have to come back tomorrow and I can't come in tonight. All of my friends start leaving too and are asking each other "did *** just get kicked out for being gay??" Then the owner comes back over smiling and laughing and lets me back in and just says "Haha just don't try to dance with me again, okay?" No apology or anything, just a remark that confirms to me that in a CLUB apparently it's inappropriate to dance while walking by the owner because this guy might pull a "No-Homo!!" and kick you out. I've been coming here for two years, and had a horrible experience on Halloween. Owner is racist as all hell. I went in after paying the 10 dollar cover, (which the owner said as $7 outside btw) and asked to use the bathroom. When I went, I only saw urinals and not a toilet. I specifically asked someone at the bar for a toilet and when they said there was one, I said I was just there and did not see any. The owner then came and said one was there end offered to show me, but was aggressive while he did so. The one toilet was hidden behind a door. I said "oh, I didn't see it," because it was behind a door. The owner then came in on me while I was using the bathroom, to say: "make sure the bathroom is clean." To which I was somewhat humiliated, but of course, I kept the bathroom clean. When I got out, security escorted me to the door, and I had no reason why. He said it was the owner. When I got out, I asked him to discuss RESPECTFULLY why he wanted me thrown out. He barely wanted to talk to me. He basically said the decision was final, and btw, as of writing this, I still don't have my $10 back. I don't usually say this, but as a black male, I can only assume that racism played a part in this ridiculous treatment. Do better. read more

Came to turf for bottomless brunch today and they gave us 1 mimosa about every half hour and then gave us watered down mimosas. When we complained, the owner came over and when we told her what happened, she said they started using a different type of orange juice. I said that that wasn't true and that they were just watered down, and the owner yelled repeatedly "It's $12 bottomless mimosas," making it sound like we shouldn't have expected bottomless mimosas and timely service because the bottomless mimosas only cost $12. I'm so glad its finally open! Best bar in college park. Great bartenders (look for Yasmine), great dancers, good food, the ambiance is exceptional. Lots of TV's for those sports fans out there, and a fun party atmosphere. Highly recommended for all CP students. read more

Terrapins Turf, or more commonly known as just Turf, is a hop, skip, and jump away from Fraternity Row, this may be only the second bar in College Park I've hit up, but it's already a favorite. There's no cover (that I know of) during the summer, and there's a great atmosphere that's a little bit corner bar, little bit hip club. There's some seating on the patio (but limited to make room for dancing near the DJ booth), and ample space on the inside as well. I personally like to first judge a place by their whiskey sour (among other things), and $3 gets you a solid version of said mixed drink. However, if you're feeling like getting "turnt", I'd recommend The Fishbowl. What is a Fishbowl you may ask? It's pretty much an AMF in a fishbowl (yes, an actual fishbowl which would typically house a beta). I've been told it changes color depending on the bartender, but I'm sure it still gets the job done. All in all, a prime college bar. read more

This is one of the few places in College Park that offers a decent brunch menu. Ranging from eggs Benedict to pancakes to steak and eggs it's pretty legit. Also for $10 you can get bottomless mimosas when you order an entree. I get the crab cake eggs Benedict literally every week. It is hands down one of the best Eggs Benedict's I have ever eaten. The experiences I have had at turf has been like no other from peeing on the floor to pushing a deaf guy turf has given me and my friends memories that will last a lifetime. It is what the true college experience is about. The kamikaze shots lead me to make questionable decisions and the rona's allow me to full send it every night. This place absolutely sucks. Service sucks, bartenders suck, bouncers suck, and the management is horribly disrespectful to paying customers. I paid $15 for bottomless mimosas on a Sunday. The drinks were served in a small plastic flute which could be finished in 1-2 normal sips. I was sitting at the bar and asked to have my flute refilled only to be told by the manager that "you can't drink them that fast, that is not how this works". Thats not how this works?! Than do not advertise BOTTOMLESS mimosas. Biggest waste of $15 in my life. The food is excellent! I had the chicken cheesesteak and fries. The fries came with a yummy dipping sauce and the cheesesteak was tasty and bread was fresh. My companion had the burger which has a tasty grilled taste. We also had honeybay wings which is a tasty combo of old bay and honey. They were cooked perfectly. I would definitely go back.
