We came here for breakfast today and it was amazing. This is your local diner where the owner knows everyone coming in by first name. We only had to wait 10 mins for a table on a Sunday morning which is great for a breakfast spot. Our server was fast and attentive with drinks and food. We ordered the veggie omelet with toast and hashbrowns, the fried trout breakfast and a full stack of pancakes. The veggie omelet was amazing and I love the cheddar in it and the hashbrowns were crispy and delish. The trout breakfast was very interesting but loved the crust on the trout. The pancakes were HUGE, fluffy and most important cooked all the way through. This is a great local breakfast spot with a warm home cooking feel to it. Terri's Café (Meridian, Idaho) I found Terri's Café on Yelp and was not disappointed. In fact, I was happy with my food and wowed by the service. I can't deny it. My wife's name is Terri and the name of this restaurant made me curious. With a name like Terri's Café, this place must be good. Just like Mel's Diner, right? Meridian doesn't have a lot of places with a significant amount of Yelp reviews. When I found Terri's Café on Yelp, the first thing I looked at was the review count and average stars. With less than 50 reviews, I figured that it's probably equivalent to an establishment in Vegas with over 200 reviews. I dined on a weekday and was told that this place is busy during the weekends. I was seated immediately, and my server gave me a few suggestions. I didn't go with any of her suggestions and decided on the potato crusted trout, couple stacks of pancakes, cottage cheese, of course eggs, and an elk patty just in case. If you're not familiar with elk, it tastes like beef, just a bit sweeter. Elk is high in protein and low in fat. Even better, elk isn't as gamey as the rest of the exotic meats out there. My overall meal was delicious, and I didn't leave a single crumb on my plate. But if I had to recommend one item here, get the potato crusted trout. It's very good, lightly breaded, and potato anything in Idaho just seems to taste a lot better. As for service, it's as good as it gets. I didn't get the opportunity to meet Terri the owner. What a great find! We came here for lunch on a Sunday and were seated right away. Kate was a great server and even recommended some good dishes. Literally melts in your mouth with tenderness and flavor, but still has a pleasant chew to it. Biscuits weren't as flakey as I like, but decent gravy. Not a huge concern for me; the corned beef hash was enough to make me love this place. The huckleberry pancakes were awesome and fluffy too!! The homemade syrup is YUM. If you're not terribly sensitive to flavors like my husband, you might not sense a huge difference between it and a blueberry pancake. read more

Terri has got better since the 1st time I was here, when it was under a different owner. Now, I would rank them among the best Breakfast spots on town. Let me give you a tour of it. From the outside, it does not look like much at all. Most breakfast places seem to pay little to no attention to the outside of their business. Why I have no idea, because its the outside of the building, more than anything else, that draws you inside to eat, unless you just happen to have read about, or know of the business. The only distinctive thing on the outside is a coffee place called BR, which stands for Black Rock. BR did a great job on their stand alone Coffee Drive through building. The parking lot needs help. Some of the spots have to be parked on sideways, but they are not marked as such, so Ive seen people parking straight in, which causes issues. If the ownership is reading this, the parking lot needs to be re-marked strategically and maybe added to to allow for additional parking. A good strategic parking plan could probably add around 10 extra spaces. If someone is new in town and driving down Fairview looking for a place to eat, they might well drive right past this place, having no idea that there is good breakfast inside. There are also people that live here, but are driving around searching for a place to eat but will blink and not see Terri's. The inside is also pretty non descript. Ok, lets move onto the food. The CFS, or chicken fried steak, is good. Its a Texas style CFS, unlike most every place in town, that makes more of a Northern style CFS. A good Texas style CFS has a heavy crust that is crunchy, with fork tender round steak, and a white country gravy. The steak is seasoned, floured, put in an egg wash, then coated in something crispy like panko, and then laid gently in oil to cook. Contrary to what some cooks and wait staff will tell you, If the person cooking this knows anything at all about frying, the CFS will not be greasy at all! The only improvement I would make to this steak is that it needs seasoning. A little onion and garlic powder and maybe just a little salt would elevate this steak to CFS nirvana. Next up are the eggs. This is a pet pieve of mine. No one in town seems to know how to make good fluffy scrambled eggs. Eggs are looked at as an after thought, which is very weird since they are the main staple of most dishes. Scrambled eggs need to be made with care, and not just left on the flattop and cut up and the last minute. You start off with the mixture. Scrambled eggs should be about half eggs and half heavy cream. Then you beat the crap out of them with a whisk which whips in air, hence the fluffy. Next you pour them into a pan, not a flattop, and keep stirring them until they are nice light fluffy scrambled eggs. Jam. This seem like a small thing, but if you like toast and jam like me, its huge. Pre-packaged Smuckers is no bueno! Good Jam has to be home-made. If you like sausage, you have to try it here. Its homemade and very good. No tough skin to chew. Just flavor and spice and everything nice. I have not found any better anywhere! The bottom line here is that Terri's is very good. They rank right up there among the best Breakfast places in town. With just a few improvements though, they would be THE BEST Breakfast spot in town by a mile! read more

I've been going to Terri's for 3 years now. It is not as easy as you might think to find a place that has good hash browns and tasty thick bacon. Terri's has both! Everything I've ever ordered here has been delicious. The service is always great - fast and friendly. Bonus points that the tables are well spaced for health and privacy, and there are noise dampening tiles on the ceiling so you can actually hear yourself think (unlike some of the local places where it is so loud you feel like you are in a NYC diner). Very first time at Terri's, my suggestion GET THERE EARLY, or try to arrive before you are really hungry, there was a definite wait, even at noon on a Sunday. Once seated, the waitress was prompt, attentive and polite and the food was good, except for the fries, which were sadly stale, oil soaked and over cooked. I will say one thing, if you are looking for Eggs Benedict look no further, the hollandaise was so smooth, creamy and delicate, absolutely delicious. Overall, Terri's has a familiar and cozy feel and is a good place to sit and enjoy a "home-cooked" meal with friends and family. I know there are restaurants with way more Idaho history behind them, but I say Terri's Cafe does a perfect job demonstrating what makes this State beautiful. It's family environment with hot coffee and good conversions. The food is cozy and comforting, the menu is detailed but not bogged down by too many options. The waitresses are delightful, friendly and so nice to talk to. No one is on their phone, but I am because I'm a disgusting millennial who uses yelp. There are big open windows; right now you can see October at its best with colorful leaves and half naked trees. At this hour it's quiet... just 20 or so people here and the gentle sound of laugher and the clatter of busy workers in the kitchen. Sure I haven't said much about the food. But it's great, and the portions are generous. I love it here and I highly recommend taking someone you care about to this diner and enjoying their company while you enjoy the warm meal. They have weekly specials for lunch and breakfast, and be careful on holidays because this place can start to get packed. Especially on Mother's day. Be kind to each other. read more

Since Terri took over the cafe, the place has gotten even better. The servers are friendly and helpful and seem genuinely happy to help. It is definitely a favorite place for bringing a group for a delicious weekend breakfast. And the food? It's hard to make up my mind usually----the Stuffed Huckleberry French Toast is bursting with flavor, with fresh huckleberries making the sauce something truly local and something you can't find anywhere else. Their sausage patties are excellent with great flavor that only comes from them making the sausage themselves. The omelettes are fluffy, light and chock full out of all sorts of good ingredients to your choice. The pancakes are fluffy too, big and definitely a kid favorite. A highlight is the sausage combo of their fresh made sausages. And they of course do eggs your way! Some days it's even fun to just do sides. My suggestion---get a side of ham with an order of biscuits and gravy. Down home dining at it's best! Lunchwise, they have lots of good choices. An excellent Italian Sausage sandwich, with the delicious sausage and oozing with other things. The Reuben is really good too. My favorite however is the Idaho Chili bowl. I'm particular about my chili, having even won a chili cookoff in years past. And I have to say, of all the places i've been, their is the best. Get the bowl, it's a meal in itself. Bummed. Went in for a Saturday morning breakfast - I was all about the bacon and eggs, husband went for the chicken sausage and eggs. His sausage winded up being burnt on the outside, under-cooked in the middle. NOPE! And then, to make matters worse, mine - fishy hash browns. FISHY HASHBROWNS. Went on a Saturday around 11am for some breakfast because I heard that "Steve's Cafe" has amazing breakfast. I was soon informed by a server that Steve had left the cafe and now Terri owns it and that it was the first opening weekend for Terri's Cafe instead of Steve's. Congrats Terri! Simply put, this place is AMAZING. Although it was busy due to the Saturday crowd, we were seated immediately at the breakfast bar area. Here's the breakdown: PROS: Too many! First of all, when you order a drip coffee, they give you a BIG mug...none of those tiny 10 ounce cups you see at other places that leave you hoping that the waitress notices you need a refill every 5 minutes. Secondly, if you're not into coffee, DO order a hot chocolate or a peppermint hot chocolate...you will not regret it! This place has the absolute BEST corned beef breakfast plate I've ever had in Boise! Quality meat that is perfectly flavored and doesn't have the fatty parts seen on other plates around Boise. The server informed me they slow cook it overnight. My wife scored the huckleberry stuffed french toast which was also delicious and quality. The woman next to me ordered the biscuits and gravy which she highly praised as well. CONS: None! Everything from the food to atmosphere and service were top notch. There were plenty of servers staffed and everyone was very friendly and helpful. Side Note: If you go during a busy time, the parking can be somewhat limited since the parking lot is shared with several other businesses (it's located in a strip mall). Also, expect to wait a little bit if you if you have 4 or more people. Although, the wait is definitely worth it! I go here during the week as the weekends can be crowded. They listen when you order and the food is prepared accordingly. One of the few places in town that can make an egg over easy and not come out medium. HINT: Once in awhile the crispy hash browns come out pasty white - I have since learned to ordered them crispy on both sides. Perfection! I hope Terri's will follow Steve's lead and offer the PORKIE. Hasn't happened yet. It's the only time I go there on weekend and then I go both Saturday AND Sunday. Yes, it is that good.
