I just got in town last night from my trip to SLC. I wanted to spend some time with my daughter so I suggested that we go out for breakfast. And honestly, I didn't want to cook breakfast. The Potholder Cafe has been on my to go list so I took today as an opportunity to go check this joint out. It was a quick drive to the café which is nice. Walked in, was instantly greeted and it was seat yourself so we found a comfy table in the secondary dining area. The chairs they have here are so comfortable! That was the first thing I noticed getting myself situated. Whoever chose the chairs, good job! Kaitlyn came and dropped off menus to us. Coffee and orange juice was ordered I did Kaitlyn if I could possibly grab fresh creamer from her that wasn't in a communal dish. She offered to grab me a little portion of half and half from the back. I thought that was so kind of her! Drinks were dropped off and food was ordered. My daughter got the Loco Moco with some toast. I got the Baja scrambled with some spinach added to it. While our food was being prepared, we got to check out the decor. I love that our Idaho flag is represented at the restaurant. The country, farm chic decor makes the vibe fun and homey. Our food came out shortly and it was hot of the grill. You can smell the spices used on my ground beef. The spinach was bright green and fresh all over my scramble. There were pieces of olives, tomatoes and green onions sprinkled throughout my eggs. It looked delicious! I got a huge helping of hashbrowns which is shared with my daughter. There was enough for the both of us. My daughter's Loco Moco looked tasty! It was a hamburger patty topped with a fried eggs, covered in gravy. And underneath all that goodness was steamed white rice. The coffee was hot. Our food was really good. I enjoyed my scramble very much! Each bite was different cause of the ingredients in my scramble. Kaitlyn did a great job taking care of us. I guess my only complaint is that my daughter's meal was 17 bucks for a hamburger patty with a scoop of rice, 2 eggs and some gravy. Honestly, I would have expected at least another portion of it. I just don't see where the 17 dollars comes in for that amount of food. I do look forward to coming back, especially with my husband. He loves a good chicken fried steak. I would like to enjoy brunch somewhere closer to home than heading downtown to our Sunday local joint. Everything about our meal was great today, I guess we will just have to make sure we order something that has a good amount of bang for our buck the next time we come in.

Lots to pick from!

My wife and I recently stopped by The Potholder Cafe in Eagle, a new outpost of the beloved Long Beach, California favorite that's been around since the 1970s. From the moment we walked in, the place felt inviting. It's clean, bright, and cozy with comfortable leather chairs. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, and we loved that the owner was hands-on, checking in on tables while the waitstaff handled orders seamlessly. We felt genuinely well taken care of. The menu is extensive, with tons of breakfast options like creative omelets, scrambles, and traditional lunch fare (think BLTs), plus plenty of dishes with a nice Latin flair. I went for the eggs with chorizo sausage, which was perfectly seasoned and flavorful. The portions are generous and filling while the crispy hash browns were spot-on, and the sourdough toast (sourced from Gaston's Bakery in Boise) was super good. Hot coffee kept coming, plates were piled high, and the whole experience was just great. If you're in Eagle, do yourself a favor and stop in, I don't think you will be disappointed! Recommend...

When you enter, you can see the cafe split into two separate dining rooms, with standard tables (no booths) on each side. The Potholder Cafe has a very comfortable and friendly "neighborhood cafe" kind of vibe and style. Nothing fancy, just inviting. We were a large party of 12 (with a reservation due to size) and it almost looked like we wouldn't fit in there, but the staff were incredibly accommodating and had the tables all ready to go. Once seated, service was friendly and attentive. Of course, one of my friends is a frequent flyer at The Potholder and shouted "toast" as soon as she showed up. The servers promptly served her perfectly toasted white bread, slathered in melty butter. She was very excited...citing this toast as the best "melt in your mouth" toast on the planet. I have to agree...the toast was pretty perfect. We quickly ordered from the mammoth-sized menu (which only made it harder to choose because everything sounded delicious). I opted for "Sam's breakfast bowl" but the table selected a plethora from omelettes, scrambles, burritos and sandwiches. Food came out roughly 15 minutes after ordering, though sporadically due to the size of our table. It took roughly 5-7 minutes before everyone had their food. The plates are overly generous with portions, so bring an appetite! The bowl I ordered was decadent and rich with flavor - a mix of potatoes, beans, eggs, chorizo, cheese, sour cream, avocado and enchilada sauce. The downside for me was the heavy pour of sauce, which negated the flavor and texture of everything else. I would have liked to have crispier potatoes or cubed potatoes in place of what there was. That said, it was hearty and very filling, flavorful and a nice change to the average breakfast fare. Everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meals, gleefully sharing and swapping with each other. There was a constant fervor of joy around the table. This is a place someone can enjoy over and over again, mostly due to all the limitless breakfast options and excellent service!

This Potholder Cafe is one of a small chain of Southern California originated eateries with the same name and based on my first visit, I think the same menu is used here as in all of them. The owners are a daughter and father team, I think, and they are currently residents of Eagle. Open from 7a to 2p with a two-plus page laminated menu of breakfast offerings and lunch offerings on the back suggesting a pretty fixed menu, not changing seasonally.. They have updated to brighten the space that was formerly home to a beloved by many and locally owned lunch and dinner spot, Stuffed Olive. They get a lot right here and I wish for them great success even if it isn't the kind of menu that would lead me to eat here often. And that is all about my food preferences and in no way an issue with their food. SERVICE: We arrived right at noon and they were busy but service was excellent for being friendly and informed about the menu and the wait on food was merely a matter of a small kitchen trying to serve a lot of people from an expansive menu, I think. Were stars for service alone, they would easily be 5. Service here is light years better than the two other in-town breakfast / lunch spots of The Griddle and Rembrandt's. VIBE & SEATING: We were offered seating at the only open table that was in their overflow dining room. We appreciated the lack of music, one can carry on a conversation better, and I asked if that was an all-the-time thing or just this time thing. I was told the main dining space is wired for music but this room is not. Works for me! There is seating outside as well. All tables are standard height and I also appreciated they provide some "elbow" room between them in arranging both the main and overflow dining room. EATS: In a nod to the past, my husband and I shared a Club Sandwich ($15) and it came on rye toast (even if too lightly toasted) and without mayo, just as we requested. (Do you know how many restaurant kitchens can actually get that 'no mayo' request met? Answer: Few. :-) ) We can count on the fingers of one hand with some leftover how many times we eat fries during a year, but we had them here and they were delicious and came crispy hot. The fries were coated with something that seemed to add to the crispiness. Worth every calorie. Portions seem huge and looking at the tables around us, plates had food remaining or people asked for to go boxes. It seems as if part of the schtick here may be serving huge amounts. That is a thing for some people, although not mine given I am one of "those" who is concerned about food waste in the U.S. where 40% of food goes into landfills (and a lot of that starts in restaurants). We weren't the only ones in the dining room sharing an item; the server brought an extra plate with the meal to make sharing easy and they didn't charge us a share charge. We tipped $10 on that $15 sandwich to say thank-you. (When we share something, we often tip the server as if we had ordered two items.) Re those same two in-town breakfast - lunch spots I mentioned earlier in these comments, based on this single experience at Potholder and multiple experiences at the others before we said "we're done", the food here is better too. PARKING: The strip mall has a lot of spaces but it seems often full around this eatery, just as in the Stuffed Olive days. ACCESSIBILITY: There are 2 ADA compliant spaces in front of the restaurant but they are the only ones for the entire side of the parking lot. (The lot does not meet ADA minimums for number of spaces but that is a strip mall owner deficit, not the restaurant owner's.) Level in from walkway through both entry doors. Adequate clear floor space to get to tables. I wasn't using a wheelchair today (although on other days I might since I have had multiple sclerosis since college) and it seems some 4 tops would work for diners using wheelchairs. The uni-loo was marked accessible but I didn't check it. GOOD FOOD NEIGHBOR: If you arrive after Potholder closes or if they're full or if you are hankering for Greek food, local family owned and operated Kosta's Taverna that is directly across the parking lot and open for lunch and dinner is a top notch option.

The Potholder Cafe has officially landed in Eagle & it's here to stay!! We went for breakfast on a Saturday morning & loved it! We sat down right away & the service was on point. Whether you choose to sit inside or outside, there will be plenty of room for everyone. The food was delicious & the portion sizes did not disappoint. While you're here, I'll let ya in on a little secret.. the chorizo & egg breakfast burrito is actually 2 burritos & you still get to choose a side.. it's a lot of food!! Yum! Speaking of a lot of food, Tim's Dug Out should be renamed the breakfast of champions.. it has all your favorite breakfast items & perfect for the person that wants a little bit of everything & can't settle on just one thing. If you're giving this place a try, you better come hungry! Happy Yelpin Y'all

We've been looking for a replacement breakfast spot since Squeeze In closed (and broke our hearts). Enter The Potholder Cafe! Filling the void of the Jack Johnson is the banana nut pancakes! My mom ordered the Popeye's omelet, but then ate my pancakes. Good thing I can share! Will be back!

It has a very local, community feel that's getting harder to find. The coffee itself is fine -- not terrible, not "drive across town for it" amazing either. I usually just get the unlimited refill cup and drink from one of their mugs while I work for a bit. Where this place really shines is the baked goods and breakfast food. You can smell everything being made from their little kitchen, and it feels genuinely homemade in a way most coffee shops don't anymore. Their molasses cookies are somehow available year-round and I'm not exaggerating when I say if they're sold out, my day takes a turn. The quiche Lorraine is also legitimately excellent with a buttery crust, and they usually have a surprisingly good variety of gluten-free baked goods too. One thing I oddly appreciate: no music and no giant café chaos. Also no plugs, so this isn't the place to camp for 6 hours on a laptop. But if I need a quiet spot to answer emails or get 1-1.5 hours of work done without distraction, this is actually one of my favorite places to go.

I'd call ahead and get your name on the list as it's quite popular and lots of people eat here. So, we had a group of four. The chicken fried steak was very good with gravy and huge portion. Good luck finishing it. I had corned beef hash unlike any I've ever had. The corned beef as in thin strips with no fat and all taste and fresh. The pancake will most assuredly will be the biggest you've ever seen. It's fluffy and done just right! We went on a Friday. It appeared the place had more tables available around the lunch hour. We've been twice now and we love sitting at the bar--it just feels right for the vibe of the place. The staff clearly loves working here, and it really shows. They know the menu inside and out and can pretty much make whatever you're craving. If you're driving through on the interstate, take the I-84 & Eagle Rd exit--it's only a few miles north on Eagle Road. Super easy to get to. And with the view by the patio, how can it not be the most perfect setting to enjoy my birthday dinner. We just stuck with water since it was on the warmer side today. We just went straight in for dinner. As much as the appetizers sounded lovely, I was ready for the main event. So for dinner tonight I ordered the charboiled salmon with seasonal veggies in place of the salad. My salmon was plated beautifully with nice char marks on it. The veggies were a variety of squash and were sautéed nicely. And you can tell visually that they were seasoned nicely with spices and herbs. I dug right into my salmon. My first couple bites were delicious. I did spread some of the sun dried tomato butter on my salmon. The butter was fantastic! It added a nice flavor element to the salmon. After I ate about a a fourth of my salmon, I noticed that it was not cooked all the way through in the middle. With my new kidney, I can't have rare or undercooked fish. My immune system can't handle a parasite if the fish were to potentially contain any. I shouldn't have assumed that it was going to be cooked all the way since our server didn't ask how well I wanted it cooked. I did have to send it back and have another one remade. While my new fish was being prepared, my server gave me a small salad plate to transfer my veggies to. I got to work on them so I wasn't staring at my family eat. The veggies were cooked perfectly. They weren't overly soft or still raw. It had a nice bite to them while still being tender. Unfortunately, they were overly seasoned and was on the saltier side. I was hungry so I polished them off. But I did have to drink a good amount of water to help with the saltiness. Thank goodness the portion was on the daintier side. As hungry as I was, it would have been bad if it was a bigger portion. All that salt would not be good on my new kidney. My second round of salmon came out. Was it as pretty as my first plate, no but it will do. I'm sure they set the flame on high, let it sit on the grill for a while and then flipped it to cook the other side. I have cooked salmon well done plenty of times and have it come out tender. When you cook for a living, having cooking times for your dishes should be down to a science in your kitchen. Unfortunately, the salmon was super dry and flavorless. As hungry as I was, I ate it. The butter did help with the dryness of the salmon. But I shouldn't have to rely on butter to make the dish edible. For my birthday, I got a free dessert. I chose the gluten free carrot cake. My cousin eats a gluten free diet so I thought this cake would be perfect for all of us. I enjoyed the cake very much! The cake was moist. The spices in the cake were fragrant and very noticeable in each bite. I loved the frosting on the cake. Since the cake wasn't overly sweet, the frosting added a nice sweetness to it. I enjoyed the cake very much! Our server did a mid job. There were times when she would be gone for long periods of time and we had to wait for her. The patio was perfect with its stunning view. Dinner was ok but dessert was fabulous. Overall it was a decent experience. I do look forward to coming back and enjoying the outdoor patio with my husband for a date night. I just know now to make sure I vocalize everything to my server so I don't end up with dry salmon again. I do want to come back and have a better experience.
