Not as good as I've come to expect since I used to live in Bloomfield. It's been a couple years since I've been here bc the last time I ordered a burger it tasted like propane...like they didn't have the grill heat high enough or something...this time I ordered the burger with pepperjack cheese TO GO...by the time I got it back to work, maybe a 5 minute drive...the bottom bun was mushy and the cheese was waxy. Packaging burgers (or really any food)...in styrofoam containers is the kiss of death. Spend a little more and wrap it in foil or use a paper container. As far as the burger itself...it was as big as I remember, but that's not necessarily a good thing since it was pretty much unseasoned meat and almost flavorless. The potato salad was good, but also not as good as in the past. I guess they are suffering the same fate as a lot of places...staff turnover, unskilled workers, short staffing, who knows. read more

Our server got drinks quickly and took our orders - the lad got the Canadian salmon, and (it was Thursday) I ordered a half rack of pork ribs, light sauce, and potato salad. To cut to the chase, the food was okay, but the service was just below substandard. I literally saw our salads sit for 10-15 minutes, waiting for pickup. That's what happens with an open kitchen concept - you can see stuff. Where was our server? Oh...I saw her with a jacket on...maybe out having a smoke, getting fresh air, or ??? It was well over 15 minutes to get the salad at our table. Oh, and sitting close to the couple at the next table, I heard their server ask if they wanted bread and butter with their salads...an offer not given us. When the salads did finally come, our gal informed us our food was also ready. Maybe it was my look, but suddenly..."Oh...no...it isn't...that was another order..." Sheepish smile. So I'm assuming our finished food was under a lamp, off to the side...whatever. We did see her at the bar, fixing drinks or whatever she was doing there...but it wasn't paying us much mind. I have been to Tessaro's twice now after hearing about their famous burgers. I had very high expectations based on everything I had heard. And while it is certainly a good burger, I expected a little more. The feel and menu in Tessaro's is very old school. I do like this to an extent. This traditional style is reflective in their menu. There are very few options in terms of burger customization. This is an area where I think they could innovate a little. Some onion straws or an aioli of some sort would make the burgers here even better. The burger itself has been cooked perfectly both times I have been here. The burgers taste seems to have a higher lean ratio than other burger places. Despite this, the freshness and unique meat blend still makes for a delicious taste. The old white haired greeter is as friendly as a alligator. If 5 of your party of 6 have shown up she will not seat you until that 6th person shows up. Have you ever tried to park on Liberty Avenue during anytime of the day??? She is miserable if you have children coming to this establishment. Home fries were crispy and OK, but maybe I should have gotten potato salad. The place was packed, but on the hottest day of the year, it was pretty steamy in there since we sat in the front. People constantly opening and closing the door made the air conditioning ineffective and the storm knocked out the power for a few minutes. This is my family's go-to spot when we're in Pittsburgh and hungry for burgers. They are made fresh and it is my understanding that they even have their own butcher. The steak salad is also very good - good quality steak with home fries and other grilled veggies. The atmosphere is like a friendly neighborhood pub. Nothing overly pretentious, just good food and a jovial atmosphere. Finally, they have a booth in the downstairs bar area that they try to reserve for people in wheelchairs or who are otherwise disabled. (Note that the "upstairs" isn't an actual upstairs but an elevated area that you reach via 2 or 3 stairs). This was much appreciated as my mom needs a walker and she didn't have to go through the awkwardness and difficulty of negotiating stairs. I've heard this restaurant in Bloomfield's "Little Italy" served up some pretty good burgers so I went and tried for my self. And... they're pretty good! Smells great inside. It's appropriately in Little Italy. I got take out so I can't comment on the service. Gourmet Kelly burger- 4.1/5 Boy, was this thing BIG. Probably half a pound of meat sits on a large bun with sautéed onions, mushroom, bacon, lettuce, pickles, and tomato, with dijon mustard and mayo, if you want it. What do I look for in a burger? Its a pretty simple concept: the meat needs to not fall apart, bit be dry, and have a ton of flavor. How did this check out? My medium rare temperature order came out more medium in color, but the burger was super juicy; and while the burger sort of disassembled while I ate, the meat stayed in tact. What this burger lacked was the flavor. All you need is some salt and pepper but I really could not tell if they put any on or not! Luckily, it was saved by a lot of complimentary flavors of the bacon, onion and mushroom, but I wish the meat had more of a stand-alone punch. They pride themselves on the "hardwood grill", but I missed those tones. Home fries- 4.3/5 These were really solid. I like mine with more of a crispy the outside, but I enjoyed the flavors.
