Akumi is a healthy 13y/o dog who stands and runs everyday. This groomer advertises "special care" for dogs and yet, complains AND blames the dog/owner for any extra attention. Tess' reply confirms exactly what I shared in my original review. Notice how she did not address any of the photos but she sure did leave quite an essay. In good faith, I have called, texted, sent photos, and left a voicemail to resolve this together and not one form of communication was replied to. Tess left me no choice but to escalate the issue and contact my bank. The bank concluded that my disputed charge is valid due to negligent and incomplete work. Rarely, do I want to rush home to write an adoring review to a really deserving establishment and owner. Tess is the exception! I am one of those notorious procrastinators. I will wait until I am fed up with the trail of dog hair on the hardwoods (tip: short hair dogs shed just as much if not more than long hair dogs!) before calling around in search of same day grooming. Upon my search, I came across Tesslan dog spa. I gave Tess a call, and asked for a Hail Mary. She was patient, and inquisitive to learn about my dog Luna. After chatting a bit, she let me know that she is not able to take larger dogs anymore because it's just her and her assistant and she is getting a bit older and not able to hold them as easily, but that she would be happy to have me come in, and help guide me, using her products and bathing equipment, and then her and her assistant could trim her nails while I am present to help comfort and ease my dogs worries. I agreed and came in to take her up in her offer. When I came in the first thing I noticed was how great it smelled and how clean it was (not very common on a grooming place!) Then I noticed there were no crates! Only a few boxed baby gates throughout the facility. I was welcomed in, and then Tess took me to her Dog wash basin, and brought me all that I needed, and proceeded to walk me through how best to wash her using the products she had ready for me. She even brought over ear cleaning and special face wash so as not to get any soap in her eyes. While I was washing Luna, I could hear Tess and her assistant (Jessica ?) talking sweetly to the dogs that they were grooming in the other room. Another little lovable dog hung out happily in one of the baby gates while she waited for her turn. When I was done they brought me and Luna over to the next room to get her nails trimmed. They had me stay by Luna's face and put oils on my hand to massage into her head to calm her while they went to work trimming her nails. They also put some calming salve in her ears to also help relax her while her nails got trimmed. Afterwards they gave her some actually good quality treats (meat, not biscuits) as a reward and to help build trust with her. Price was not bad at all. $25 for the self service bath and $25 for the nails. My pup is now happily lying next to me with a clean (shed free) coat, ears and paws and smelling great! Tess is the absolute best groomer I have ever taken my dogs to. She is so calm, kind and gentle with dogs. My dogs were both seniors with lots of health issues ans Tess always knows how to create a low stress environment for them. She never puts your dog in a crate or leaves them alone for hours at a time. She takes her dogs one on one so your dog isn't stressed and it really seems to work! She takes her time with each dog individually and in turn your dog is only there between 1-2 hours at the most. The level of care is second to none. She is even a retired nurse! Pros: easy to communicate with and clean establishment. Cons: SUPER OVERPRICED! I paid $220 dollars for my dog to get shaved. They began to cut her face but stopped, so the hair length was not even around her face, her face was awful. I was charged a $90 dollars fee for "dematting", that makes sense - assuming I get my dog back with hair and without mats. But they just shaved her, so, why did I pay $90...? I either get charged for dematting and I get a dog with length, or you shave her? Why would you shave her, and charge me $90? No matter the distance or cost, I wanted to ensure my puppy will be in the best care. Thankfully, I had found Tess. Although she is located 40 minutes away from where I live, she is well worth the drive! She was very attentive to my puppy, Remy. I did not have a great experience here with my dog. Tess did take my dog on quick notice so I was appreciative of that but Tess then demanded that I bring her back in 4 weeks to reduce her anxiety with grooming. Also when my dog came home she would not come out of her bed for a few hours and she seemed very irritated. Tess said they had to bathe her 3 times. Who bathes a dog 3 times??? I canceled the 4 week appt due to traveling and looked at my dog and she definitely was not even close to needing another groom yet. Tess texted me that my dog could not come back to her salon since I could not bring her every 4 weeks. I had no plans of taking her back after the $175 ridiculous charge for "2 groomers " needed for a 13 lb dog. read more

I too was hesitant to post but after seeing other reviews, I now can see we were not the only customers treated poorly, overcharged and then thrown to the curb. In October and upon a recommendation by a neighbor, we booked 2 appointments for our 1 year old and 5 month old maltese mix dogs that weigh 7 lbs and 5 lbs. The older dog had been groomed several times before, the younger one this was his first. We were quoted $70 per dog for the works. Upon picking them up, we noticed the cuts were just so so but the younger dog was so eager to get out we just left it . Then came the lecture from the owner. She pulled out a a tangle of hair the size of my thumb and proceeded to lecture me about how she can not work with dogs that have mats and she will have to charge us extra. How extra? $50 per dog extra. What should have been a bill for $140 was $220 with no explanation about why we were charged extra for the older dog when the mat came from the younger dog. We paid plus tip and then she demanded we book out in 6 weeks or not to come back. Silly us, we did just that thinking that if the dogs got a more regular groom things would be better. In between grooms, we received a mass email to all clients that was one of the most bizarre emails I have ever received. It was from the owner lecturing us all on how the dogs must not go to the bathroom in her salon, mats would cause her to cancel service, being on time and the list of grievances went on and on. For someone with a business, I can not imagine ever speaking to my customers like that even if the complaints were legitimate. The final straw was we did take the boys back and everyone seemed happy to see them. We picked them up right on time and again, there was a bit of an uneveness to the cuts but the boys seemed happy so we were. Then, the owner pulled out a mat from the older dog that was the size of my thumb and really went to town lecturing us mats and it is our fault because we hold the dog in our arms wrong and on and on. Oh and the cost? $240. Again, it was due to mats and the younger dog being "busy". The final insult? She said she would not longer groom our dogs because they were not trained to behave in a salon. So folks, if these groomers can not handle a 5 lb puppy and a 7 lb. dog because they are "busy", then I invite you to reflect on how they will treat your dog. She has been complaining about her short in staff, I could assume why. Her charge is pretty expensive side like 200 for full service, and complains a lot about our dog. Huh. I've come to this place for several years. I dropped my dog off at 8:30 and asked the groomer how long it would take and they said "2-3 hours" but they needed me to be on time for pickup. I had to go to work so arranged for someone to pick the dog up at 11 based in 2-3 hours. At work I'm bustling around getting work done and missed a call 45 minutes after drop off that he could be picked up. Owner calls me at 10:30 very upset that I had not picked him up. The person picks him up just after 11 and tells them they are inactivating our account. Then why did they estimate 2-3 hours if it was more like 45 min? I was a good customer at this place for years. I run a customer service business and understand that there are some customers you don't want. Had they given me an accurate time estimate, I would have picked the dog up at that time. Tess and staff were wonderfully patient and loving towards my rescue dog, Lola the Chow Chow. It is very hard to get anyone in this area to groom a chow--either it takes too long, or they don't want to deal with the quirky Chow personality. The scheduler was very kind and friendly on the phone and luckily they were able to squeeze her in before the busy weekend. Tess introduced herself and gave a tour of the back room. She and her staff are dedicated to continuous learning of the latest grooming and dog handling techniques--her nursing background is definitely a huge asset to her profession now. Lola looks very beautiful, had a wonderful experience, and I couldn't be more pleased!! This is the PERFECT dog spa, especially for our huge (140lb) neurotic scared fur baby! Tess and her staff are beyond amazing. They made Karma feel comfortable and took great care of her. I couldn't be happier with our experience at Tesslan Dog Spa. I was referred to Tesslan Dog Spa by our vet tech after a few unsuccessful nail trim attempts. I immediately left Tess a voicemail and she called back the same day and spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me to get to know our situation and to explain how she would attempt to calm and treat our dog. Tess scheduled me for the same week, at a time when her other groomers were also available, with no other dogs around, in order to have the most successful visit. At our appointment Tess clearly explained her policies and provided a printed copy of the policies which I agreed to and signed. Tess gave me an estimate of pickup time and stated I would receive a text 30 minutes prior to pickup time which I would need to confirm. The whole appointment was smooth and SUCCESSFUL! Our dog was calm, clean, and happy when I arrived to pick him up. Tess and her team gave some suggestions in order to build on the conditioning of the appointment. Tess and her team is incredible! Our 3yo Aussiedoodle is highly anxious at other groomers' and has gotten aggressive towards them before. We went to four different groomers (before Tess) in the past few months and were sent home every time, even with anti-anxiety meds. Our dog would not even let the groomers near her. But with Tess and her team, our dog was able to get through 2 hours of full-service grooming without once trying to bite (and without anti-anxiety meds!). They were so gentle and patient with her - one person making her comfortable and praising her while the other did the grooming. They did not man-handle her like most other places. These folks are AMAZING!! I brought my two shiba inus in and they are known to be very difficult breeds to groom and bathe. Not only did they do an amazing job, they were able to trim AND dremal my older dog's nails (which no one, not even myself) has ever been able to do. I have a big issue with this groomer. I went a couple of weeks ago and from the moment I got there, she was raving about how good she is with stated examples of great jobs she has done in the past. When I went to pick up my dog, she went out of her way to continue to push and talk to me for 25 minutes on why she was so good and how she NEVER nicks dogs or sends them to the vet after because she is so careful. Repeating it over and over. I thought at that time she was just proud of her work, and I respect that so I stood there and listened. It wasn't until after I got home that I saw my dog had 2 cuts, one on the inside of each ear. They were in relatively the same spots on the inside of both ears, as if there may have been some sort of contraption clipped onto her ears that dug into and tore off her skin. Additionally, she had been nicked on her stomach. So basically, her long speech was an attempt to cover up what she had done, instead of taking that 25 minutes to explain what happened ( which I would have totally appreciated and would have been much more respectable). I then tried to give it a chance to heal and the one on her left ear did, but the right one has not and is now infected and she is scheduled to go to the vet today. So now, she cannot say she has not sent a dog to the vet with her grooming, although, I don't think I am the first anyways. I only know that this dishonesty needs to be called out. read more

My golden retriever had one of her best haircuts here. The staff were very friendly when I dropped my pup here and they showed me around the facilities including where the pups would roam freely. No other facility has given me a tour of their behind the scenes. The place is very clean and all the dogs behind seemed very relaxed. I was a little hesitant about this place because of some of the bad reviews but took the plunge. I now see why the majority of bad reviews is really based on the rude attitude of this lady Tess. This spa is supposed to be soothing and relaxing yet this lady absolutely is neither of these things towards clients. My advice is stay clear because if she treats people like this over small things who knows what she does behind the scenes. I had left her a message wanting to book an appointment with my dog 2 days prior. Then 1 morning I woke and saw a message from her saying she had a cancelled appointment tomorrow and I could have it if I replied right away. So I replied saying I would take it. In my message I clearly specified the day of the week time and date which was for the next day and asked her to confirm back. She confirmed it so I went about my day. Later I get a call from her saying the appointment was for today and where was I? Turns out she had sent the message the night before around 10:30pm which I had not noticed the time stamp since it was so late and I was already in bed but as I said she confirmed the day and date. I was polite and apologetic as it was obviously miscommunication but this lady ranted how I was at fault and how I wasted her time etc etc. Who treats people this way? This lady was incredibly rude and then had the nerve to say she didn't want to argue with me when I pointed out that she should look back at my message. I thought I had reviewed Tess and her amazing business before, but I guess not. Enda and I go to Tess about once every one to three months. I started going to Tess with my Corgi Enda when he was a few months old. I have never, ever been disappointed with her services and she does a stunning job. I have taken my corgi to a few groomers before Tess and they did not understand how to groom a fluffy corgi. However, Tess is great with Enda - she knows how to calm him down (He's a little over a year now) and tells me of any issues that come up in the grooming process. When I have gone to different groomers Enda had always been hesitant to go back, but he LOVES going to Tesslan dog spa. I have never seen a dog so excited to get groomed (as much as a corgi can love grooming!). She helps me with any tips she knows that can help me at home and makes sure everything is up to her excellent standards. Today was my dog's first appointment and we both highly recommend Tess and Tesslan Dog Spa! My dog is a rescue and can be fearful and anxious in grooming situations. I scoured Seattle and the Eastside for low stress grooming and crate-free environments and I'm relieved to have found Tess. Unlike other groomers, Tess books her appointments one at a time so each dog receives individual attention and is never put in a crate to wait. Prior to our appointment she called me to fully understand my dog's history and needs. In the past we've given our dog a mild sedative for other groomers, but - per her request - Tess was able to groom her without any medication and our dog did not have any negative reaction to today's grooming! I do not recommend this groomer. In my opinion, they do not care about your pet's well being. High staff turnover.
