Tried Texan Wang Bal last week with my husband after years of it sitting on my list of places to try. \\ jokbal combo - a plate of jokbal, a bowl of rice, and a bubbling bowl of seafood dwenjang jjigae--intended for one person but we could easily have split just that and have been full - soft, warm jokbal with the perfect amount of chewiness which was very similar to the 猪蹄 (chinese pork trotter) of my people - came with lettuce, two dipping sauces, and garlic and onion for ssam \\ dweji gukbap - the pork soup was hearty and warm, and you get to season it with salt and pepper to taste - full of tender slices of pork The plaza is across the street from the busy Hmart plaza. While the inside of the store doesn't seem huge, it was very cozy. We had a button we could use to request the check or anything else. I come here specifically for the jokbal & bossam, there was 3 of us it was way too much! It could feed probably 5 people, especially with the rice and lettuce and sides. The interior is a nice private set up where you can enjoy food with your party/ family and there's plenty of seating. Staff is sweet and helpful with the menu. This place is a solid 4.5. If you're looking for a no frills place that is healthy and delicious, this is your place to go. Bossam (boiled pork belly) & Jokbal (pig's feet) are huge and one combo ($64.99) was more than enough to share among 4 people. The first time we came with 3 people, we had plenty of leftovers and we also had leftovers with 4 as well. How to eat it: - Take your lettuce wrap, put the meat inside, supplement it with any of the kimchi/sides and take a bite. Nice and simple. Service is nonexistent unless you push the button to grab their attention. It's fine if you're used to it, but many people might not know/realize. Docked a star because their galbi jjim was not the traditional galbi jjim, but made with pork ribs that were over cooked and not a favorite amongst the group. We work in the restaurant industry, so we know exactly how food should be prepared and served--but it seems the owner/operator here thinks they can easily deceive customers. We ordered a medium pork trotter for takeout at 9 PM. As soon as we opened the container, the meat was completely cold, meaning it had been cut hours earlier. The cuts were terrible, and the meat looked like leftovers from other tables that were saved and repackaged for takeout. It was never this bad before, so I'm guessing the ownership has changed. The bossam here is SO good, my husband and I have been here twice in the last week. The first time we came with 2 friends and shared the half and half (1/2 bossam, 1/2 jokbal) and a seafood pancake. The seafood pancake was nice but probably not the best one I've had in Carrollton. The bossam was really good and paired really well with their radish kimchi, lettuce, garlic and samjeong. The jokbal was also tasty but a little bit too heavy/fatty after the first few bites. I think this will become one of our regular places to eat! read more

I love their seafood pancake and highly recommend people trying it! It's so crispy and comes with a soy dipping sauce. It was my first time trying their spicy squid + vegetables dish, and it was so good! It was a little sweet & spicy and tastes amazing with a bowl of rice! The half and half combo is a great option if you want to enjoy delicious steamed pork belly and tender pig trotter. The combo comes with lettuce, garli/jalapeño, sauces, and side dishes. It was a lot of meat, and alongside the other dishes we ordered, it easily satisfied us all with additional leftovers that we took to-go. We arrived around 6:30pm on a weekday and there was seating available. The restaurant itself seems on the smaller side so I can see them having a wait if you're trying to dine in. This is the first time I've ever written a negative review. This restaurant is full of discrimination, and I had an extremely unpleasant experience. I was in Dallas for a business trip, exhausted and starving after landing. I saw the great reviews for this place and decided to drive 40 minutes just to give it a try. But as soon as we walked in, a middle-aged Korean lady greeted us and immediately said, "We close at 10." We came in at 9pm. If she didn't want to serve us, she could've simply said the kitchen was closed instead of giving us an excuse and making us feel unwelcome. That would've honestly been better than the terrible experience that followed. Starting with ordering--before we were even fully seated, the lady kept staring at us. She didn't introduce the menu or help us in any way, just kept rushing us to order because "the kitchen is closing." I showed her a photo of a dish and asked for a small portion, but she insisted we order the large one, even though there were clearly smaller portions on the menu--and we were only two people. During our entire meal, not a single staff member smiled at us, yet they were warm and friendly to other Korean guests. The food? Not impressive at all. Their so-called "seafood pancake" had the least amount of seafood I've ever seen in all the Korean restaurants I've tried. While we were eating, they kept coming by to check if we were done, making us feel like we were just in the way of their closing time--even though their posted hours clearly say they close at 10pm. When we left, that same middle-aged lady didn't even say goodbye or acknowledge us. I honestly don't know what we did to deserve such cold treatment, but this is a very disappointing way to run a business. I hope the management reflects on how they treat non-Korean customers, and I sincerely hope they do better in the future--because no one should leave a restaurant feeling like they weren't welcome. read more

The jokbal was super tender, had great flavor, and they did a great job of cutting the meat for you so the bones are separated from the meat making it easier to eat. The bossam was also good but it wasn't anything special and a few of the pieces were a little dry. The jokbal was definitely the star of the show here. Enough for probably 3-4 people to share. It comes with lettuce, cabbage, saeng chae (spicy radish), jalapenos, onions, ssamjang (soybean/chili paste) and a few side dishes with the meal. -Gamja tang-$15.99-(5/5) This pork bone soup had a generous amount of pork meat and the soup itself was spicy and very tasty. I've been a regular for years & I ordered through DoorDash for the first time b/c of an injury and I was disappointed to find that the order did not come with side sauces + rice, so I called to check and the staff did a poor job responding because I wasn't even asking for a refund or anything; simply asked if the rice wasn't supposed to come with (because I was willing to tolerate the sauce part), and they said "rice is never part of the meal for takeouts." Trust - this is a Korean restaurant. Rice is always a part of this type of meal. So I said I've been a regular and I takeout and dine-in all the time and I've always had my rice, lol. And then they quickly changed their response saying that if the rice was part of an order, it's just a complimentary service they provide for certain orders and the next time I come, they'll make sure I get lots of rice (not the point here). The way the staff (or the owner) handled this was disappointing b/c it was obvious that she was just trying to answer just to quickly provide an answer in that moment, but it was a lie. Like just own up to it and admit that the rice was forgotten and we apologize - simple. The jokbal (pig trotters) skin? So good. The meat was really tender and flavorful, and it doesn't look like that much but there was quite a lot of it. The bossam was also really good! I think the jokbal and bossam balance each other really well because the bossam is a bit lighter. Always always have to wrap it with the lettuce and sides to make the perfect bite. A hole in the wall Korean restaurant that specializes in jokbal (pig trotters) and bossam (pork wraps). We ordered two combos, one of each, and gamjatang (pork bone stew). It's a pretty small space with lots of regulars so you may have to wait on a busy night. Service was super fast so we were able to start eating pretty much right away. We got fast refills of the banchan and lettuce wraps, pretty much nonstop. My fiancé's family is Korean and they hadn't been here before, but were definitely impressed! Texas jokbal?! Sure why not! First time so super curious. Items appear pretty and tasty looking right? Kimchi with brine and pepper taste that suggested freshly made. So does the rest of the meal taste as good as it looks? The items look clean but it also taste clean? Is that detergent I taste from the kamja tang soup? I thought I did and waved it off until someone else makes a comment that they taste detergent! So I was not imagining... I have experienced this detergent taste before at other places. I don' t understand this food cleaning method. Potato in the kamja tang was undercooked, and the meat was sadly plenty of bone versus meat. The taste was MSG based and sweet. Just not my taste preference. The jokbal was not really remarkable. It looked pretty though. Does that make this like lipstick on a pig? Haemul pajeon looked crispy but underneath it was still swimming in some oil thus a soft and oily taste. Mostly batter... So overall the food was generally sweet tasting to me. I may give it another try but would require a psycho hungry situation. With all the other eating options available in the area then may also require some type of freak power outage to give it another go... Our new go-to spot for jokbal is Texan Wang Bal. the servers are super nice and helpful and if you go at the right time, you may catch them joyously singing in the kitchen.... And added bonus. We had jokbal, galbi tang and haemul pajeon.. all were wonderful! The jokbal was well balanced between sweet and savory, with a great texture from the collagen.. perfect to eat on its own or wrapped up in your favorite ssam fashion. Newest spot to pop up in ktown Carrollton. They serve up generous portions of meats. When you walk in you are greeted by a sweet ajumma, you are given a handwritten menu all in Korean so bring a Korean friend or just randomly point at the menu and hope for the best. They are known for three things: pork feet, pork feet and LA spicy beef ribs. We got a combo that came with a large portion of pork feet and belly including an assortment of kimchi, lettuce, sauces and rice. It was large enough to feed three people for $42. The pork was of good quality and well-cooked with no porky after taste. You can make a delicious lettuce wrap with the meat, kimchi and sauce.
