Texas Auto tops is great !!! I needed help with a rectractable sunroof I bought for my EV and it was very difficult to install due to insufficient instructions. The boss of the place (i forgot to ask the name) helped me to install it. He removed the car frames, installed the sunroof, and later cleaned up everything with an alcohol based solution, and didnt even charge any money. The sunroof is working good now, all thanks to him and Texas Auto tops. read more

As if this place needed any more great reviews... Bought a 2010 Chrysler Sebring that was having an issue with the convertible top. Went to a few places and nobody would touch it. Initially Texas Auto Tops said the same thing, but once I went in and chatted in with the owner, we were able to work it out. After hearing what the issue was and taking a quick look at the vehicle, he told me it was likely the convertible top motor... which is discontinued. I'm pretty resourceful, so I was able to find the motor brand new from a company called Wholesale Parts Express and they shipped it to me. Texas Auto Tops doesn't normally work on customer supplied parts, which I completely understand, but they made an exception in this case since there was no way for them to get it. While I wouldn't say the fix was cheap, it was entirely appropriate for the job and at Texas Auto Tops, they really know what they're doing. I dropped off the vehicle at closing time on Wednesday and the 4 hour job was done for me the next morning. Amazing! Nice to know there's a place to bring all of my convertibles (present and future) if any issues arise. These guys know their stuff! read more

Becca at the front desk was amazing. She took a look at my Toyota Highlander's sunroof to see if they could help me. She tested it for leaks - both front and back on both sides - and snapped a rubber piece that was hanging down back into place. She fixed the problem for no charge. Then she asked me if I'd like to learn how to take care of it. She got a stripped down sunroof and showed me the holes that lead to drainage tubes. She explained where and how the water drains and how to keep the tubes open and clean to prevent water blockage (and rusting). Honestly another place could easily have charged me for fixing that sunroof, and I would never have known the difference. Another place definitely wouldn't have taught me how to take care of it! I think when you walk into the front office and the person there is amazing, and has stayed there 13 years, it's a good bet that the place is well run. read more

Replaced the top on my BMW Z3, they did a good job on the top, reasonably priced, but now the back plastic cover (cowl?) below the rear window is cracked. They admitted to causing the crack and said they would replace it. It's been over two months and they haven't called me. I called them and they said "oh yeah, we are working on that". It's been three more weeks and nothing but my back cowl rattles now from being cracked. Still waiting.....they never called or took responsibility....stay away read more

January 2020: On Saturday morning I called Ford service department to setup appointment for 2:00 to fix my sunroof (stuck open) and was told my vehicle would be looked at that day but may have to leave until Monday for repair. Showed up at 2:00 and was told no one could look at my vehicle until Monday. On Monday I was told it would cost $153 to diagnose the vehicle and $2600 to repair it and $450 to just close the sunroof without repair. Went to Texas Auto Tops shop and received repair estimate and they closed the sunroof at no charge (took 5 min). And the repair estimate was for $1100. Will not be ever be going back to Ford for service of my vehicle. January 2019: Earlier this week I took my Tahoe in for Texas Auto Tops to look at my sunroof that was not working. This sunroof was installed many years ago by a company in Georgia. Nonetheless, after testing a few things they made some adjustments in the electrical panel and the sunroof works perfectly. Becca is awesome! Super communicative and helpful. I had my headliner and pillars re-done and the craftsmanship is impeccable. Not a single crease, everything looks better than stock! They were very very concerned about brittle plastic and quickly recognized which pieces already had micro-fractures, advising on how to replace. Due to this we did not complete part of the job and I will be back to get that done once we have the parts. I had 2 different tops put on before it was as it should be, but apparently the manufacturer was slacking. Regardless, everyone was professional and took care of the issues ASAP with no run around or lame ass jankyness. They even gave me a rental car the 2nd go around. I have been toying around with having a large sunroof installed in my 2006 Silverado Crew for a while now. I decided to stop by Texas Auto Tops after speaking with Becca on the phone. Becca wasnt available the moment that I pulled up but David, one of the installers was more than happy to show me what different sunroofs were available. He didnt even try to sell me on any particular sunroof, he just wanted to see my truck to see what my truck would accept. Becca showed up and took over and she swayed me away from one of the larger roofs due to that model having problems. I left with some brochures without feeling any pressure to buy. I returned later to setup an appt to have not one but two sunroofs installed in the truck. This review will be updated once I have had the work completed. *************** Update: (Feb 07/2011) - Got the truck back today after it being in the shop the entire day undergoing the install. - Fit and finish are first rate for the types of sunroofs (popups) that I had installed in the truck. - Garrel went over the simplistic operation and maintenance of the roofs. He had already filled out the proper paperwork for warranty (lifetime on parts and labor for both) and had me out the door in 10 minutes. I gotta say that looking through not one but two sunroofs is amazing. This is as good as it gets in my book: - No pressure from shop trying to sell this or that - Shop extremely patient with discussing pros and cons of each roof (thanks Becca) - Install was done in one day, not dragged out - Truck was clean with no issues of grime, dirt or anything else left inside Next car I get, I will definitely head down to Texas Auto Tops vs getting something from the factory. :) :) *************** Update: (06/01/2011) Well, the Texas heat is here and these roofs are doing exactly what they are supposed to do, keeping as much heat out as possible but letting the sun shine in. *Edited review. I set up an appointment to fix the door locks on my truck one week prior to the actual date. They said they would order the parts. I live 45 miles away. On my one day off I drove in and was told they did not have the part and they were still waiting on it. They could have called the day before to let me know this so I did not waste my day driving in. I then went and purchased the parts over the counter at leif johnson. Called back and they said they were waiting on the part from the same people. Except I picked it up the same day I needed it and they were waiting a week? I did not go back and ended up fixing myself. The only reason still three stars is because they came through one time. They cannot be counted on for consistent service. Previous Review I have a 2010 f150 with a sunroof. My sunroof had broken and was stuck open. I called the place I usually take my car for maintenance and they told me to call these guys. Everyone was very accommodating to my schedule and polite. They fixed my sunroof for a third of the price than the dealership offered. This place is great. Everyone was so helpful. When I called about my car's leaking roof, I let them know what I thought the issue was. Becca looked up the part ahead of my visit. When I went in they determined it would be a simple fix. They had it done in 15 minutes and didn't even charge me for the trouble. A road hazard took out the front sunroof on my 2015 Pathfinder. I had a previously positive experience at Caliber, so I stopped in and got an estimate for $1434.15, including 8.4 hours. USAA told me to try Texas Auto Tops of Austin. My partner called them and gave them my credit card to cover my $500 deductable. They had the part in two days from Nissan-no aftermarket glass available yet. Nissan gets $847.44 for the sunroof. I didn't have to make an appointment or leave my car for the day. They did it in a little over an hour while I waited, so Caliber's 8.4 hour estimate was grossly over estimated (and over priced). Becca runs the front desk there in an extremely friendly, professional and competent manner. If I wasn't already retired, I would have tried to hire her. In the today's highly competive employment market she is a jewel. If she was working for me I would make sure she was paid well and otherwise treated well. Gals like her don't grow on trees and you need to protect your claim when you have one working for you. The manager there also seemed very competent and Becca spoke highly of him, even when he wasn't arround. I'm thinking about buying a new car and noticed they do leather interior upgrades and can even do heated and air conditioned seats for a lot less than the upgrade trim packages on a new car. The work they did on my sunroof was A+. When I mentioned that some of the broken glass had gotten all the way to the back hatch and was causing the hatch to bind slightly, Becca went out to the shop and got the tech to carefully clean that area for me. A couple of months after purchasing my preowned Miata MX5 I discovered that the dealership/previous owner had done patch work to the top because as I put the top up and down the patching flaked off. This exposed two rather large rips in the top. The dealership wanted $3700 to replace. The recommended Texas Auto Tops so I gave it a try. Becca (I hope thats how you spell her name) told me my option was canvas instead of vinyl and explained an amazing warranty on both the top and the installation (6yrs/3yrs). When she gave me the estimate I thought it was a joke and because I didn't have my glasses on thought I was seeing it incorrectly. I thanked her and went to the car. Y'All....after putting on my glasses I saw that the estimate was indeed 1/2 of what the dealership wanted and for a better quality top. The work was scheduled and after only a day I had my Miata with the gorgeous new canvas top that I promised Becca I wouldn't put down for a week (Of course it was the week of the most amazing Austin weather). She has the answers to everything. She's on the ball and she runs that office like a fine tuned machine. She is friendly and respectful to everyone I watched her deal with.
