This spot is in a kind of an odd half closed shopping center. The interior is fun with lots of unique signs. The manager greeted us and said they had no red beans and rice. He did give us an extra side We got chicken pork and beef. From ribs to rib tips, pulled pork, chicken and brisket. Food was good. Sides of baked beans and macoroni salad.. All of the meat was a bit dry. Possibly overcooked. The exception was the brisket. It was exceptionally fatty. I am not negative on this business. I want to go again. I really wanted to like this place. The ambiance was promising--picnic tables covered in plastic, eclectic Texas-style décor, and great Texas blues music playing in the background. It had that Southern vibe that made me hopeful for some good BBQ. Unfortunately, the food and service just didn't deliver. We waited about ten minutes just for drinks (three sweet teas and a can of soda), then another thirty minutes for food. For BBQ, that's just too long. When the food finally came out, the boxes were heavy, which gave us hope. But the taste didn't match the weight. The ribs were grey, overcooked, and completely flavorless. The pulled pork was chopped instead of pulled, with no smoke, no seasoning, and no color. The brisket had a decent texture, but again--where was the salt, pepper, or smoke? Every meat lacked the basics of good Texas BBQ. The sauces were okay if you like them very sweet. The "spicy" had a little kick but nothing special. The sides were hit or miss. The coleslaw was the standout--fresh and flavorful, my wife said it was the best thing on the table. The black-eyed peas had good flavor but were a little too al dente. The greens had potential but fell flat. The beans tasted straight out of a can with some leftover meat thrown in. To be fair, they did give us free refills of sweet tea (though they said they usually charge extra). Bottom line: $112 for four people isn't terrible, but it's not worth it for what we got. The gentleman behind the counter owned the restaurant and he was nice and explain some highlights on the menu such as the ribs and brisket. We went with the #19 which is the 3 meat combo and 1 side. The restaurant is in a shopping plaza and as soon as we walked in we were greeted with the aroma of BBQ which made our mouths water. The menu is on the wall. We ordered the brisket and the triple meat (brisket, pulled pork, and hot link). These are actually sandwiches. The sides we chose were French fries and greens. The moist brisket was very good, hot link was spicy and pulled pork was chopped. The fries could have been a little crispier for us. The greens were good and garlicky. The spicy BBQ sauce was Amazing! Inside is picnic table seating with two TV's. The restaurant really got busy after we arrived. The staff were nice. I order the Triple Layer Sandwich with order of potatoes salad. The pulled pork was diced cubic meat not at all BBQ. Don't call it pulled pork unless it slow cook on smoker at 225 for minimum of 3.5 hours. The brisket slices on the sandwich was leathery and very dry. No smoke ring. That is not the way to treat a brisket. The potatoes salad was dry, no relish and no mustard. If want to taste some good brisket than go to Wild Fig BBQ. This place seems to be a true hidden gem! We wanted some catfish but didn't want to drive all the way into the middle of the city to go to our favorite place. It's safe to say that we have a new favorite! Fried perfectly, seasoned well- it hit every mark. My kiddo had the red beans and rice and I had the cole slaw for a side. Both were great. I ordered bbq rib tips to go. I ordered for 2 people so I ordered us each a lb. A lb is a lot so me and my husband could have shared the rib tips and still would have had some left over. The sides were unremarkable--I ordered red beans and rice, baked beans and hush puppies. The two biggest things for me is that bbq should be well seasoned so that you don't have to use bbq sauce on it. The ribs were tender but bland. This goes for the sides as well. String Beans Garlicky and crisp, not canned and mushy. Excellent. 5. Hush Puppies Great, we took them to go so they weren't hot, but were delicious. 6. Mac and Cheese Standard cafeteria Mac, nothing special, Road Kill Mac blows this out of the water 7. Pulled Pork Mediocre, nothing else to add 8. Hot Links No snap and mushy, we threw it away after a few bites Good service and the food came out quickly. Price for two 4-meat plates plus Mac and hush puppies was around $80. The restaurant is located in the shopping mall that's rather discreet. When I entered it, there were several people waiting for their food and one couple eating. As I began talking with them they all said they found this place for the first time. I got a three meat combo special. It had ribs, rib, tips, and brisket. I got the sauces on the side ....the regular as well as the spicy. They have ton of combo meals and all of them looked absolutely delicious. I got my food to go and when I got home, I was ready! I poured the regular sauce on my ribs took a bite and almost died right there on the spot! The rib tips were amazing. The brisket was amazing as well. Everything was fall off the bone and tender. The owner and chef came out and told us how he prepared his food. He uses nothing but the best, utilizing actual wood to cook his meats and real honey to sweeten his bar-b-q sauces. I'm a Texan, so my BBQ standards are high. We ordered the brisket platter to go. The brisket had great flavor, but it was uneven. Some was perfectly tender; some was a bit chewy. Texas brisket should always be melt-in-your-mouth, cut-with-a-fork tender. This was disappointing. The potato salad was good, but I would have preferred a less sweet pickle in it. It tasted as if bread and butter pickles were used. The wall menu is off-putting with its masking tape to indicate items no longer available and price changes. While I understand this is a developing business and most likely they don't have funds to have a new wall menu printed, this wall menu looks shoddy. A chalkboard would have looked nicer. The many funny signs on the walls are entertaining. The serving sizes were large, and the prices reasonable. We will likely try them again. read more

Everything I ate there is delicious. However, let me tell you about his brisket. First of all, I was not a brisket fan. I tried it over a dozen times and most of the time I was never too thrilled about it. I even told Paul I'm not a brisket fan but he kept telling me how juicy and tasty his brisket was. Right when you walk in it seems as if it is not open. Empty, plastic tarps on the tables, and silent. Also the menu is very confusing. They have masking tape over many of the options making it extremely confusing on what is available and what is not. When it comes to the food, the brisket seemed tough and fatty. I'm not sure how that is the case, but that was the cut I was served. Chicken was bland, and ok but not for the price. I will give them credit on their sauce, it was very good. Ok, we went here since it's close to our house. We tried the master combo. I picked ribs, end tips and brisket. Also grabbed another platter with shrimp, catfish, wings and catfish. All I got to say was the sauces were delish!!! So when we got in to the shop, it has a strong smell of either sewer or something. It was strong. It was very off putting. We waited 30 minutes for the food. When the food came the bbq platter was good but it seemed like it wasn't a fresh bbq. The seafood platter was delish. They fried their stuff right. The owner used to have a restaurant close to where I worked and it was my very favorite place for lunch. Then one day he wasn't there (actually, his cashier told me he was going to close up shop). I was so glad to find that he's now opened a restaurant close to home. The ribs and brisket are really good, sauce on the side to let us each chose our preference and sauciness (why would you want to mask the smokiness?). Fried okra is perfect as are all the other sides I've tried (sweet and creamy slaw, beans with pork chunks). It's certainly the best BBQ this side of town and among the best in the city. The smokiness was the only flavor profile and wasn't even good. The spicy barbecue sauce was not spicy and not good at all. Now, to the most disappointing part of the meal - the candied yams. Now, it says candied yams on the menu but these are NOT candied yams. These are mashed sweet potatoes with a weird texture and flavor. Very inedible. We ordered the 3 meat Wagon Trail Combo with brisket, hot link sausages, and rib tips. It came with an 8 oz. side and we also ordered a small side of corn bread (3 pieces). Our order was plenty odlf food for the 2 of us to share. All the meats were great. I particularly like the rib tips while my wife liked the brisket since it was pretty lean and tender. We both liked the hot links and corn bread. Service was friendly and price reasonable for the amount of food you get. We were just bummer that our BBQ beans were missing (I did look at the receipt that had both the beans and corn bread on it).
