Perhaps unsurprisingly, but also contrary to numerous billboards' claims, this is not the best smokehouse in Texas. But that's okay. This is one of nine locations. It is actually a glorified Shall station, and you'll find both a Sonic and Texas Best Smokehouse inside. We arrived a little before the lunch rush hour (1145pm), which was good because later there was a sizeable line. The employees um... are not particularly concerned with expediency. I would describe their affect as lackadaisical. But then the old guy in front of us was harassing the employee to chop off the fat layer off all the slices so... Their menu isn't terribly extensive but the flavor is good. Pricing is midrange. Quantity is acceptable. There are tables to sit and eat at inside where it's nice and cool. There's soda options available, or if you buy from the mini mart there's coffee/ICEEs/etc. Lots of Knick-knacks at this location too-- shirts, hats, keychains, socks, plushies, wall art, jewelry, and more. Nice bathrooms. Good air flow, thematically western. Only the towel dispenser is touchless though. Gas prices are equivalent to the Love's across the street. read more

So, we were heading back to Dallas from the South for work and our group was hungry so we decided to check this place out. We were first skeptical since it was in a gas station but we really did not have much of a choice. Upon entering, it was a gift store wonderland. We were greeted by really nice goodies so we ended up picking up some. Then we headed over to the restaurant. The guy made my husband try a slice of the brisket but it really did not taste extraordinary so he ended up getting a small size of it with a drizzle of habanero sauce. I ended up getting the veggie plate. When it was time to eat, the brisket melted in my mouth. The small slab of taste test he gave us did not do the brisket justice. My husband said it was the best brisket he's ever had. The sides are also made with so much love and seasoning. The Mac and cheese was just so delicious, the mushrooms was good too and so is the mashed potatoes and the green beans. I am not really sure if there is anything that isn't good coming out of their kitchen. Afterwards, I got some chocolates and some chocolate wine to go. We enjoyed this place and we highly recommend it! This place deserves so much recognition because the employees put a lot of pride in their work. Tourist trap! This is a small chain of stores spread across Texas. This location is a 3-in-1: BBQ, store/gas station with Jerky (and tons of other stuff), and a Sonic (yup). You have to pay for each at three different registers even though they are all owned by the same guy. The important stuff: *They do have one of the largest selection of different varieties of jerky I've seen. Green chilie turkey, sweet honey bison, jalapeno beef, habanero beef, S&P beef, teriyaki, etc. FYI - They don't have samples out - all you have to is ask. All were OK and prices were average, but if you're on the Texas I-35 trail and you want jerky Robertson's is the place to go. *BBQ: They were sold out of the brisket the day I stopped in, so I wasn't able to try it. Opted for some smoked turkey instead. Had a nice smoked flavor and was surprisingly juicy, but I've had better. One plus, the gals working the BBQ counter could not have been more friendly! Texas Best offers two BBQ sauces: regular and spicy. Felt obligated to try them. Both were A-OK, average. *Ladies room was clean. Stopped here because we saw the sign heading south on I35. Brisket was fantastic and the broccoli salad was awesome. The macaroni and cheese was very tasty. The pork ribs were not good at all.
